Here they were, starting a duelling season yet again. Amidst all the day-to-day pressures they dealt with--neverending homework, social drama, hags hell-bent on making their grades drop--some things stayed constant. Things like the swelling murmurs of predictions and encouragement at breakfast on match weekends, the warmth of candles and bodies pressing out the cold that surrounded the castle, the smell of magic in the air when you pushed open the doors to the duelling room. Whether you were a bright-eyed first year or a seasoned upper year, there was a certain excitement that characterized such weekends, and Bridget was clinging to it.
She'd had her duel yesterday, so the pressure was off, and there were also no Slytherin duels during this time slot for her to miss, so that was nice. With the start time nearing, she figured she might as well call up her duellists; she'd been waiting around for a while already. "Okay, can I have Everly Charlton, Kim Sato, Nessie Swansea, and Julian Pritchard up on the stage, please?" Bridget was familiar with all of them, and not just in the "aware they were a name on their house teams" sort of way, which was sort of impressive, for her anyway. She didn't talk to new people very often, and especially not younger students. But she'd talked to Everly before; that might have not been the, ah, best of meetings, but she could say she knew the younger girl was inquisitive, probably enthusiastic about duelling, which was cool. She'd had Kim in a duel over the summer; it would be nice to see how he'd improved even since then. Nessie had been an addition to the duelling team recently; Bridget had nothing but positives to report, and anyone taking a position of leadership at her age was respectable. Julian was the one she knew least, admittedly, but she'd scouted several of his past duels, so that was something.
Her review of the rules was brief, the combination of her being a person of fewer words and having said this spiel enough times to boil it down to the essentials. "Alright then, any questions?" With confirmation of readiness or having answered any lingering confusions, Bridget would take her place off to the side of the stage; the attention was all for the duellists now, until they got knocked out. "Okay, begin!" She lacked the flair of someone like Dorion, unfortunately, no fun gestures to accompany the instruction.

Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 11
Nessie had never felt more nervous. When she'd signed up for duelling, she'd never expected that she'd be able to help out the team as a co-captain before she'd participate in her own first-ever duel. And yet she'd assisted with two duels already, one over the summer and one just yesterday ... and despite all that, she still wasn't sure if she'd be ready for this. Or if she'd ever be ready. She'd seen firsthand the dangers of duelling, but she'd also seen how impressive and awe-inspiring the sport could be.
Even though she was mildly terrified, Nessie really wanted to do this, to experience the sport that had captured her interest and to try her best to make her house proud, and she stepped up to the piste when her name was called.
"Hi," the young Hufflepuff squeaked to all who were present, her nerves likely evident in her tone, before glancing towards Julian for reassurance.

Reminder: You have about 4 hours to post and send in actions. Failing to post means your action is void and failing to give actions means your team does nothing but passively dodge.
I still need actions from Hufflepuff and posts from Everly, Kim, and Julian.

────────────────────── ㅤ
ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | It was Saturday. Back in the past 10:30AM would have been considered a tad early for him but time had changed him. Now, it was easier to get up earlier, all because of Noah's contributions. Well, that and the fact that classes tended to get him up pretty early ever since he'd started to attend Hogwarts. Today was important. Even though he'd had his first real duel earlier that summer, he didn't consider it as an official appearance. After all, that had been an unexpected event, and one he hadn't prepared for. This one, was different. Kim had officially made it onto the main dueling team at the castle and this would be his first time up on the stage. The boy was a bit nervous about this fact. But at least it didn't show on the outside. Being able to get spells off was not what he was worried about though. Kim had full faith in his abilities to cast spells. The only thing he was nervous about was something he was unable to control, which were people. Dealing with social anxiety was something he'd always had to handle throughout his lifetime. In a perfect world, Kim would have loved if there were no spectators in the room during dueling matches. But of course, that would never happen. As a result, his nerves were frazzled, wondering how many would show up. Maybe no one would. Perhaps he'd get lucky this time. Kim arrived at the dueling club and opened the door to head inside. He was dressed in the usual school robes, representing Gryffindor House, and was sporting a head of orange hair this month. Thankfully, no one else was there at the time. That is, until Nessie came in soon after him. He recognized her from summer camp. She'd participated in his Mafia game. A variation of it, he'd called Mutiny to fit with the pirate theme. Kim inclined his head towards her and headed up onto the main stage as his name was called by the person in charge. He made eye contact with Bridget and gave her a faint smile. It was nice she was here again. She'd been in charge of his summer duel and she'd been rather nice. It was a shame Galton wasn't his partner again, but there was always a chance to team up with him at a later date. Kim had been with him before, which meant there would be an opportunity to do so again in the future if he got lucky enough to get him a second time. He wasn't familiar with Everly, other than knowing they were also in the dueling club and was one year ahead. It would be interesting to see what kind of partnership they could make up. "Yo." Kim said, giving them his trademark greeting. To all outsiders it would seem as if Kim was quite confident. He showed no signs of nervousness on the outside and his expression and demeanor looked very relaxed. ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────

Time was flying. Everly was back for her third year on the dueling podium, after the spectacle that had occurred the last time. Her cheeks flushed slightly in embarrassment, reminding herself to focus. Everly’s gaze swept over the people standing with her. For this duel, she’d been partnered with Kim Sato, a second-year Gryffindor whose face was rather new to her (she didn’t recall the two of them ever interacting before), though she knew he’d been on the summer dueling team alongside her. Either way, this duel would be a chance for her to really gauge how well they could work together, as well as his own abilities.
They were against a pair of Hufflepuffs; Swansea, who was also a dueling captain, though she didn’t really know Nessie all too well, and Pritchard, another third-year Everly had seen in passerby. “Hi,” she responded to Kim, before raising her voice and looking over at their opponents. “Good luck.”action: as strategized

Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 11
Julian had once heard that the definition of insanity was doing things over and over again and expecting different results (attributed to Einstein, though also apparently Mark Twain, which cast doubts on the whole authorship business). He wasn't sure if that was true, but he couldn't shake the feeling, as he stepped onto the duelling platform with shaky legs and no more confidence than in his last one, that choosing to remain on the duelling team after last year's string of failures was some kind of folly.
Still, his conversation with George the previous year had steeled his resolve. He might not have gotten any better at duelling, but honing his offensive and defensive spellcasting had not become any less necessary.
He'd been hoping, when he'd heard the news that Jake would finally be joining the team as a duellist, that he might be paired with his friend at least. Instead, he'd been paired with one of his other captains, Nessie, younger and less experienced than he. It was a strange position to be in. As the older of the two, and the only one with duels under their belt, he figured it was partly his job to look out for her and help her hone her skills, but he didn't feel like he was good enough at duelling that he really could.
Still, he could at least be a good example in terms of etiquette, so he followed the chorus of greetings with a cheerful (if slightly shaky) 'hello' of his own. "Good luck to you too." He flashed a nervous grin in the direction of his opponents.

It wasn't the most successful, banger of a duel opening Bridget had ever seen, but she'd also started her first duel with her spell exploding in her face, so it was far from the worst either. They probably just hadn't shaken off their nerves yet, needed a moment to get into a rhythm.
Everly had it worst, her spell emerging as nothing but a handful of sparks. A discouraging start, to say the least, though Julian might be feeling happy he wasn't the stereotypical burning badger right now. Kim tried to hit him with a Tickling Charm, but Julian was well-able to lean away from the incoming discomfort; the spell would have to be faster than that, or Julian more preoccupied, for it to hit.
The Hufflepuffs, in turn, were both going for Kim for whatever reasons had come up during their strategizing. Whatever it was, eliminating one opponent as fast as possible to gain the numbers advantage tended to be a good way to go. Julian's fire would miss be a similarly large margin, meaning they had still eluded setting each other on fire, but Bridget wasn't optimistic. It was the most popular spell so far, 50% of the casts... yeah, this might be a heated, painful duel.
Nessie came closest to success, Kim's slightly faster reaction being the only reason he wasn't slammed with the most forceful spell they knew as soon as the duel started. So, it was still a blank slate. The duellists just needed to not let the early unsuccess get to the them; there was plenty of time left for making their mark.

ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | The duel had begun. At the moment it seemed as if both sides were being polite to eachother, which was refreshing amongst opponents. However, as the duel began, things became a lot more serious. Surprisingly, no one managed to land a hit on anyone during the first round. Kim's first spell he and Everly had decided on doing had gone off without a hitch. But unfortunately, his target Julian had managed to avoid getting hit by the spell. He was surprised to learn that the two Hufflepuffs had decided to target him. Well, Kim supposed he shouldn't have been surprised because there were only two of them. It made sense for one side to go after one person. After all, Kim & Everly had done the same thing. Perhaps his reputation proceeded him from his first official appearance in a duel over the summer. Maybe they wanted to see what he could do, as he hadn't been able to do much in the previous duel. Whatever the reason was, Kim wondered if they would go after him in the next round too. Or if they would switch up and target his partner instead of him. Only time would tell what would happen. As Everly's spell fizzled out before they could even get an attack off, Kim glanced over at them. "Don't worry about it! You'll get them next time!" He told his partner. Kim had managed to avoid Julian's fire attack. He'd seen it coming quite early, therefore it had been rather easy to evade the blossoming fireball. On the other hand, Nessie's Knockback Jinx came close to hitting him. Kim had been dodging Julian's attack when Nessie's had come out of nowhere, almost at the same time. It was easy to avoid one attack but avoiding two at nearly the same time took way more skill. Thankfully, due to his reflexes, Kim was able to survive unscathed this time. Hopefully, luck and his reflexes would continue to do him wonders. What should he do for the next round? There were many options and he glanced back over at Everly. What should they do now to take out their opponents? ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────

Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 11
Once the duel started proper, Julian didn't hesitate. Taking his stance, he narrowed his gaze and cast his well-practiced Incendio Duo in the direction of the younger of the two Gryffindors, trying to push past the niggling discomfort he felt whenever he cast that spell. He still didn't like having to use it on other people, and the realisation that Eun-Ji was watching from the stands caused a faint pink hue to appear on his cheeks. It still was the best spell in his arsenal, though--the most effective way to take an opponent down. Not casting his most effective spells just because he felt bad about his opponents getting hurt meant he might be consigning Nessie to the same or a worse fate.
Or in this case, himself. He had barely finished uttering the incantation when he registered that Everly had attempted the same spell, her wand pointed squarely in Julian's direction. He flinched, bracing himself for the impact, but the spell never erupted from the girl's wand and he found himself only on the receiving end of Kim's tickling charm, which he dodged without too much problem. Maybe his practice since that day he'd found George in the room of requirement really had paid off.
Of course, Kim had pulled off a much more impressive dodging feat. Neither him nor Nessie had actually hit him.
.
"You were very close, at least. Duels tends to involve more missing than actually landing any hits," he informed Nessie with an small smile, before turning once more towards Kim. "Nice dodging."
The duel had started out polite, and he was determined to keep it that way. Hopefully then no one would take being set on fire too personally.

Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 11
Nessie started off with arguably the strongest spell she knew, trying her best to cast a Flipendo at the opposing side. Part of her felt guilty for this, because she didn't really want to hit anybody with her spells, but at the same time she recognized that was the whole point of the sport. This wasn't personal, it was just a game.
That said, she didn't feel badly when her spell missed. She nodded in agreement with Julian's words. "We'll all get to duel longer this way," she pointed out quietly, smiling in relief that nobody was yet injured. After all, Nessie had signed up for duelling quite some time ago, and she'd be disappointed to only get one spell in after such a long wait for her debut. And she suspected that even those who'd dueled before wouldn't want their competition to be so short-lived.
Nessie was very glad that Julian had managed to stay safe from Kim's spell, but she tried to focus on what to do next, afraid that a compliment might distract her partner.
