Was the fog that now coated half the field an expected move? Totally. Was Galton pleased with the outcome? Totally. There was something about the thick milky fog that covered his opponents that felt so familiar. Like a warm blanket he could reach out and pull over him on a chilly day. A blanket that was currently pulled over the others heads, impairing their vision.

It was a solid fist round, even if they’d managed to hit Rose. Perfect setup for an exciting time.

It really felt like the first round was a false start as this round seemed to explode in front of Dori's eyes. Alighting them delight of- well- injury. Duelling was brutal. One spell they were happy to not have come under was the Conjunctivitis Curse, which Bridget slung towards Rose successfully. Her eyes quickly swelled as she sent a Knockback Jinx at her assailant which went poorly as the spell actually moved towards Opeila who swiftly dodge the attack through fog. Dori couldn't help but cringe at how that must feel. Only being able to see through a crack in whatever your eyelids allowed, what your opponent allowed.

Galton wouldn't let Rose's suffering go in vein as he sent a powerful Wind Jinx at their opponents. Both gusts of wind found purchase in Bridget and Opeila's chests. Opeila's wind gust split into two, one swerving towards Bridget before chaotically redirecting right back to Opeila. As Dori waited with bated breath, it seemed like she was able to dodge fairly easy despite the disorientation she was facing from the original hit. Opeila, having dodged two hits already, was tired of the fog. Making it milder with one swift wind jinx, the other towards Rose. There was no split, but also no time for Rose to dodge as it seemed to whip at an insane speed towards her. Dori released a breath they didn't know they were holding. Jeez- if that was the start how long could this last? Both teams were hit, and it seemed like an even match of skills. A scary amount of skill.

Ventus cutting through fog had a very satisfying feeling. It was like stabbing a knife into a fresh block of butter. A small cleaning left in the wake of the jolt of air. And in this case, two tiny holes leading to the snakes. A brief glimpse of the crafty duo.

Setting his eyes on the one other person not covered in fog, he smiled. To signal that all would be okay, even if she’d just taken a large dose of painful magic.

The Conjunctivitis Curse was not the nicest spell, Bridget could admit to that. It was a curse, the whole definition of that kind of spell was that it had ill intent behind it. And it wasn’t that Bridget was out for Rose, specifically, this was just a duel and spell choices were strategy. But it might have made it a bit easier that her target was Rose.

Her shot in the dark, aimed with the knowledge of where Rose had been a second ago—she probably couldn’t relocate that well caught in Opeila’s wind—seemed to have worked, as proven by the visual Opeila so skillfully provided with her split Ventus. The fog didn’t clear nearly fast enough, though, for her to have ample forewarning of the incoming spell from Galton, hard winds catching her in the chest. It might not have mattered, anyway, the Gryffindor being a very skilled duellist who probably could send a spell at speeds faster than she could dodge.

Rose was quickly shoved into the position of underdog. While in most stories, the underdog won through feats of great intelligence and being unique and stuff, Rose was fairly sure she wasn't in some story told to kids.

Not only did her Knockback Jinx go completely off target, shooting towards Opeila even though Rose had been trying to hit Bridget, but she also was hit with two more spells. One was another Wind Jinx, which seemed to be a popular choice in the duel already. The other was nastier. Rose cringed as her eyes started to bulge, growing past their normal size.

She saw Galton smile at her, though the world seemed to become more distorted by the second. She smiled back, straining to see. Come on- they could do this!

Opeila squinted through the smoke although she knew that it wasn't any use really. Although- there was a shadow, right? Furrowing her brows, Opeila would make use of her newest skill for the first time in a duel, hoping not to fudge it up.

Considering that Galton was the one who taught her how to do it, there was not much of an element of surprise there, but what did it matter? Opeila focused before whispering "Ventus" once again. Two gusts of wind erupted from her wand, one cutting through the fog and hitting the faint shadow the Slytherin had made out, the other blowing the smoke away entirely.

The hairs on her neck stood up when she realized that she had let her own guard down, only a split second before Opeila was hit by a strong gust of wind herself. The fourth year stumbled backwards but managed to catch herself relatively quickly.

Ah fog, time and time again it is Dori's least favorite part of duelling. As one fog dissipated from the field another took its place. Rose covered the piste in a thin layer of fog making Dori's nose scrunch up in distaste for being unable to watch. Galton took an offensive approach, spraying Bridget with a heavy blast of water leaving her with water in her eyes for the next road. Bridget had a similar idea attacking Rose with the same spell. She took a heavy hit leaving her blinded for a bit longer than Bridget would be incapacitated. Opeila had quite the successful spell, her wind jinx splitting easily and hitting Rose before she could even see it coming. Galton was able to dodge, but Rose was looking worse for wear. Hopefully she would be able to stay standing throughout the next round.

The fog vanished, allowing the two Slytherins to see their opponents again.
Still feeling a little intimidated by Galton, Opeila would aim only for Rose. "Ventus!" The moment she had spoken the incantation, Opeila noticed that this was one of her better spells. Like last year when duelling with Dmitri, two gusts of wind erupted from her wand instead of one. Too bad that Galton dodged, but at least Rose was hit by it.

From the corner of her eye she could see Bridget's spell hitting her classmate too, but her triumph was short lived. The fog had just disappeared and she could already hear Rose conjure up the next cloud. "Are you kidding me?!", Opeila would shout out in frustration.

It wasn't very long before their clear view of the platform was blocked by more cover, this time smoke. Of course it wasn't. That was how this duel was going to go, and they'd been counting on it, but still, if Bridget was a more vocal person, she might have voiced her annoyance much like Opeila did.

But before the smoke closed in, she sent a blast of water at Rose. It was a weird cast, rocky in its formation, and her adrenaline levels spiked as she felt that once-familiar threat of a backfire. But with narrowed eyes and focused thoughts, she channeled the control she'd since learned, stamping the magic into a concentrated spell and letting it loose across the platform. It struck fast and true.

The focus that went into the cast certainly cost her dodging, though, and the same spell from Galton left her spluttering. The only thing worse than smoke was smoke seen through watery eyes. She wiped at them with her sleeve, which might have been more effective were her clothes not also wet now, and of course there were the droplets slipping down her face, past eyebrows and eyelashes, to contend with. Needless to say, she was now soaked, and not incredibly happy about that, but there was still a duel to be fought, and at least Rose also probably looked like a wet cat.

Smoke filled the piste and Galton couldn’t help but feel a little more comfortable. A weird sense of safety being somewhat lost in the smoke. That comfort and safety quickly vanished as he checked on his partner.

Rose was not doing too well. The snakes had been focus firing the poor lion. With the constant barrage it was surely hard to get a breath in. If things continued like this, they’d both be in trouble.
