Most of Rowan's practice on a broom to date involved just her on the broom, with lots of space away from other people or simple enough instructions that having other people close by didn't really matter. This was proving to be something entirely different, both the teaching and having to account for someone who might not be able to control as well as she'd seen elsewhere. But that was good practice, right? Plus, they'd survived a bit of flying since their last little almost-crash, so she was calling that a success. And they could only get better from here.

Talk turned to their history with flying, and Rowan eagerly shared hers. She wished that she had some sort of cool story like some of the other kids in their classes, with long histories and brooms before they could walk and that sort of thing. But she'd only really started flying just before coming to Hogwarts, and was only sneaking in practice when she could. She turned the question back on her new flying buddy, curious to see what her situation was. "And your dad was cool with you coming to Hogwarts?" she asked, immediately kicking herself for how it sounded. "Sorry, I didn't mean that to be rude. But if he had so little interest in the magical world, wouldn't it make sense to keep you out of it as well. I mean, I'm glad you are, because this is fun, but... You know what, just ignore me." Better to get out while she hadn't dug that hole too deep. She hoped that Lucy wouldn't be offended by what she had said. She hadn't meant any harm by it, it just came out more blunt than she would have liked. "At least you're getting to get some practice in now. Better late than never, right? Though you're catching up to what I can do pretty quick."

The pair of them drifted higher and higher as they chatted. Rowan barely noticed until she realized how high up on the seating that they found themselves. Apparently, they just had to not be paying attention in order to get better at this. Lucy inquired as to whether or not they would die if they fell from where they work, earning her a funny look from Rowan. Where the hell had that come from? "I dunno." She glanced down, trying to determine just how high up they were. It had been a weird question when she first heard it, but now she found herself curious as well. "I guess it would depend on how you fell. If it were head first, yeah, probably. But otherwise, maybe? Definitely would have some broken bones."

"And your dad was cool with you coming to Hogwarts?"

Lucy paused, considering the question. "Yeah, I mean, why wouldn't he be? I mean - sure - he chooses not to use magic, but he doesn't dislike wizards or the wizarding world. I think he just wants to relate to my mum more. His parents were both wizards, so I think the muggle lifestyle is interesting for him. Maybe... it has some charm to it? Who knows." She shrugged again. She didn't know why her parents did the things they did.

As Rowan contributed her thoughts on the risk of falling from their height, Lucy's stomach began to clench. She had just asked the question out of curiosity before, but now she was picturing the event happening. They could easily tumble from their brooms and get hurt. Who in the world let eleven- and twelve-year-olds fly?! She clenched her hands around the handle, suddenly aware of how easy it would be to fall. She wrapped her legs around the broom handle, locking at the ankles. With her elbows locked, she turned panicked eyes to Rowan.

"Um - uh -uh - well I, uh, think maybe we should uh maybe go down," she stuttered, her heart fluttering in her chest. She attempted to take deep breaths to help calm her, but the harder she breathed the more she felt the broom shifting. With her muscles clenched, the broom responded to every slight movement. This slight jostle was terrifying. What if she jostled too much and fell off?! She started breathing more shallowly but found herself almost panting to get more air.  "I don't really feel so good," she mumbled, her fingers and toes starting to tingle.
