Day 1
Friday, 21st of October 2022
It was nearing the end of October, when the first stage of the duelling club would take place. What was special about this stage, is that at the start of the year, the school had announced to re-do the way the duelling club would work. It was no longer based on house against house, but instead the house teams had split into leagues and the students were matched against one another based on their skill and previous achievements. So this would be interesting to see.
As expected the weather outside was rather fresh and the rain would not treat those who tried to spend the day outside nicely. The duelling club room and the ability to cheer for either their friends or house mates would provide a more comfortable alternative. As usual the club had split the duels into two days each with a morning and an afternoon slot, that would allow the duellists and people enough of a break and time to properly focus on the individual duels.
The stakes were incredibly high, this stage might determine victory or loss of the season already, based on whether the houses would manage to have a strong start or were left behind!

Day 1
Morning Slot, Match 2 & 3
Ever the sports fanatic, no amount of horrors and tribulations in his life would prevent him from awaiting the return of dueling with excitement. Not only had Quidditch changed this year for the better by adding in more Quaffle grabs, but dueling had a large update as well with the advent of leagues to make it a bit more balanced for the younger students just joining. Flash would not be interested in the little leagues though, he would be excitedly watching the continuing growth and careers of his closest friends as they competed for excellence in spell casting and dueling. It could never be him up there, and he admired their bravery in facing up to the challenge of magic so boldly.@Dorion Anderson @Eun-ji Lee Hunt @Dealla Prince
In the morning, he would have to divert his attention between Dorion and Eun-ji's matches. Those were two for whom their dueling career seemed to go in opposite directions. While as rocky as any match ups would be, Eun-ji was able to come out with success each time so far. Now she was being paired with Delilah, an older students with quite a lot of experience. With her experienced partner though also came the threat of an experienced opponent-- none other than Miss Meenauh. Flash had thought she had vanished or taken out of school, yet here she was. He had his own issues with the young woman, but they were due to his own failing as a youth while Meenauh still called herself a prefect. She would no doubt be a formidable threat.
With Dorion though, their opponent was Dealla. Poor Dorion had been trying to remain positive during what could only be described as a dry spell. It seemed like no matter how positive they remained, or how much they practiced, their duels always went disastrously. All Flash could do was be present, cheer them on, and hope that helped in any capacity. If they looked around for him, Flash would of course wave back and smile. He would not be deterred from rooting for them, though he was glad that once again he did not have to choose between rooting for them or Eun-ji. At the very least he hoped they were having fun. With how Dealla only just recently recovered from a curse she took on for helping him, he hardly wanted her to suffer either. He had grown rather close to her rat while taking care of it during her coma, perhaps even closer than he was to the owner.
Afternoon Slot, Match 4 & 5
While he was not used to being active all day, normally retiring to his room as soon as classes were over, he would make an exception for this day. He would rouse himself from a nap to make it in time to see Bridget and Opeila duel as well. The lot of them had been through a great deal together, and he wanted to show his support for them and the Vipers. Coincidentally, Dmitri was not far away in a duel of his own that afternoon, which Flash would begrudgingly accept. At this point, he wondered if the boy even remembered him, or their time on the roof those three summers ago. It had all gone up in flame... literally. Flash did hear quite a few murmurs about how the league had been formed specifically to prevent Dmitri from terrorizing younger duelists, and that he was due for a loss on his perfect record. Though he pretended to only be here for his dear friends, par of him also wanted to witness Dmitri's fall. If he acknowledged it on a conscious level, he might have felt guilty, but he was busy thinking other thoughts.@Dmitri Jones @Bridget Collins @Opeila Winters
For instance, the duelist that Bridget and Opeila were up against was Galton. Flash had no occasion to really know him, but he had made a name for himself not only in dueling, but in helping Flash and many others with a situation involving a horrible slug. Admittedly, he seemed prone to misfires, but it would be wrong to underestimate him, what with his age and experience. No matter what, these duels were sure to be interesting. Again, if either girl looked his way, he would wave and smile, but if Dmitri happened to look his way, he would grin. He had so often enjoyed watching Dmitri's matches before, but this time he was enjoying it for a very different reason.

Day 1
@Santario Martin and @Flash Holmwood
The new school year had gone into full swing, classes had begun and new seasons of all sporting activities were going to begin. One of the things he always made sure to see was the Dueling matches, especially ones that involved Slytherin and his talented girlfriend Santario Martin. Gray was always there to support her, whatever time or day. San did the same with him for each one of his broom races. No matter, they supported each other through doom and gloom.
Sitting down on a bench next to Flash, he gave him a brief nod before leaning back slightly and folding his arms in concentration. Dmitri and San were up next against a pairing of strong Ravenclaw duelists, Perci and a face he had not seen before. San was teaming with Dmitri, who somehow remained undefeated from his time as being Slytherin dueling captain. He had dueled with him before, and to say the least, he was one of the best Slytherin had to offer.
"Who have you got for this one Flash? you reckon Dmitri will finally face his first loss?"he asked in a serious tone, keeping his eyes on San as the dual began to start. Deep down, he already knew they had one, it was just a matter of how long it took before they were given the victory

Day 1
Morning Slot, Match 2@Dorion Anderson, @Dealla PrinceWith all the events going on, an additional class on his plate, and the added responsibility of being the captain of the Broom Racing team, George was really stretching himself thin when he decided he had to go to the first dueling matches of the school year to cheer for his friends. No offense to Dorion, but they already saw enough of each other on the day-to-day, being in the same house and having almost the same timetable, save for some electives. But still, part of friendship was keeping up appearances, so George appeared looking prim and proper in his school uniform, a broad grin on his face as he spotted Dorion.
With Dealla opposite. Huh! He hadn't looked at the match-ups beforehand, and was now faced with a quandary. To root for his housemate and friend, or for his sister in journalism and gossip. He had a lot of respect for Dealla, but she seemed like a serious girl. The sort who would take this too seriously to give a damn whether a clown like George was out cheering for her or not.
"You got this!" he called to the puffs on stage - giving two big thumbs up, one for Logan, and one for Dorion. Did they actually have it? Against Dealla? Nah. But the only thing stronger than a Hufflepuff's loyalty was the power of their optimistic delusion, so he adjusted the yellow hem of his robe and threw his hands up for the puffs like a proper badger.
Evening Slot, Match 6@Jake MorrisWatching this duel was about more than just keeping up appearances. This was his best friend's big debut - the most important moment of his life so far, not counting anything that actually mattered. As Jake stepped out onto the dueling stage, George hid his mouth behind his hand to conceal the grimace that had appeared when he saw Jake shaking like a leaf. He looked like he was going to be sick any minute - would they call off the duel for that? Probably not. George shuffled a few steps backward to at least get out of the splash zone in case anything did happen.
Even George felt a bit faint as he watched Jake's wand fall to the floor. Why did he have to get into a fight this summer? He could have spent the entirety of summer camp teaching Jake how to properly keep ahold of his wand instead of reading books on brooms and riding his broom and going mad about brooms because he needed a distraction from the Jake-shaped hole in his heart. The wee bastard.
Catching Jake's gaze heading his way, George jumped up and down to attract the boy's attention, waving his hands above his head like a madman. He'd come dressed in the full badger get up this time around, his face painted white with black spots and stripes to represent the house mascot. It was just short of the full mascot suit that they used to make Jake sport to quidditch games, but it was as far as George was willing to go. He made sure Jake was looking before pulling a funny, cross-eyed face, although he wasn't sure if the small boy caught it or if he could even focus enough to see George out here.
Meenauh called the start of the duel and spells were flying left and right before George could make sense of them. Before he knew it, the girl beside Jake was getting blown away, but their other opponent was seemingly paralyzed. George's jaw dropped as he watched the girl fall over as stiff as a statue, following the path of the spell back toward its caster. Jake? Jake... did that? George had only ever seen his work in a classroom setting... and to be completely honest, it wasn't always that good. But a start like that was spectacular.
"YES!! NICE, JAKE!!" George bellowed, catching himself and clearing his throat into his hand. He would have turned a nice shade of tomato red if not for the face paint, which dulled it into a pale pink color. "Sorry," he hummed to those next to him who were trying to enjoy the duel without distraction from rowdy spectators. But he couldn't help but don the biggest grin he'd worn in a while - his little badger brother bunkmate was up there kicking some ass. At least, so far.

Day 1
Afternoon Slot, Match 4 & 5
Flash would be surprised to be joined by Percival Gray, though as the gears began to click forward, he realized the surprise was unfounded. Dmitri's partner for the duel was Santario, also a fellow dorm mate and coincidentally Gray's girlfriend. Though the two of them were not close, Flash regretfully would have to admit he was losing his distaste for the boy. In the past, he had been a pill, and Flash was appalled by his treatment of Dorion. However, now that he had apologized and even helped in defeating a hag slug, Flash could see the value in his companionship. He would smile slightly at being asked his opinion.@Dmitri Jones @Santario Martin @Percival Gray
minorly: Bridget, Opeila, Dorion and Phaedra
"In the past I would have preferred that Dmitri keep his winning streak up until graduation, after all I want glory for Slytherin." Flash would explain, a grimace slowly growing on his face. "But after he set me on fire for telling him to calm down, I started to think he could use a bit of humility."
Flash would be as diplomatic with his words as ever, despite the truth being simple pettiness. He would watch intently as most attempts to take him down were dealt with quickly. Not blindfolds nor wand removal would be happening easily, but the longer they kept Dmitri safe, the more time was running out on being offensive. Flash would of course still be keeping tabs on the other match right next to it as well, though Bridget and Opeila did not seem to be having much trouble whittling down the health of one of the duelists while staying alive. The most outstanding feat was the fact that one of the Ravenclaw duelists cast an amazing shield, a spell Flash himself had only learned recently, which tricked Dmitri into paralyzing himself. Flash could not help but let out a small gasp.
"These advanced spells certainly make things interesting." Flash would comment, wondering what Percival thought about the increasingly dangerous magic the lot of them were learning as they grew. To Flash, they were frightening, but to a pureblood like Percival, they must have held a different meaning.
As the fight continued, Dmitri was stuck, yet the proliferation of healing made it seem as though the match was halted in time. Then, explosions from either side. The Blasting Curse was another one Flash had studied up on, and was able to cast, and therefore recognized immediately. Devastation was on either side, yet it seemed Santario was suffering the most for how much she needed to focus on keeping Dmitri afloat.
"Do you know what Santario thinks of Dmitri?" Flash would start with what amounted to gossip, though it was relevant when it came to being an avid dueling spectator. "Do they work well together, or is it unbalanced?"
