Colin, Sophia, Kim, Gem, and Pax had talked about going to a Hallowe'en party as early as last spring, before the end of term. He was rather excited about the prospect, and his Ma had even ordered a fantastic costume for him! It really looked quite fabulous and he kind of wished he had worn it to the Ball --- Ma said it was made with magic and all he had to do was tap it with his wand and the costume's mask would mimic his expressions and movements!

Now that he thought about it, he became convinced that it was magic like this that muggles used in their moving picture magic. Monica had said it was pewters, but Colin was thinking otherwise. How would a box on the wall know how to laugh when the person inside laughed or growl when he growled, right? The more he thought about it, the he wondered if wizards really didn't make all the wonderful things that his friends said muggles had!

Anyway, he hadn't seen Sophia in quite a while now, not since spin the bottle, though had seen the others at the Ball and around school. He wasn't sure if their group was going to have their own party or just go around to other parties. Well, the Snek Squad --- Dr. Loops, Jannette, Irina, Violet and himself, had talked about something called the Spooky Party, so Colin decided to go there. Twas in the Ballroom, and he reckoned he might even see some other friends there as well!

Colin decided, once he got back to his dorm that rainy afternoon, that nothing would be better on a Wednesday evening but to run through the corridors of Hogwarts looking like a terrifying and ravenous fairy story werewolf! Well, running around outside in the storm would actually be fun, thought Colin. Maybe later! he sighed. He loved the feel of rain on his body as he ran and cavorted out on the grounds!

He stripped off and got into his wolfy costume --- "Whoa. This is so much more comfortable than transforming!" He went over to look in the mirror once he got everything on. To be honest, there wasn't much to the costume! Colin began to think maybe there were some bits missing. There were these kind of trouser things that had his tail attached and that ended in appropriately digitigrade wolf feet. The leggings were very uncomfortable, and Colin wondered how the other lads could possibly stand wearing trews! There was no shirt or anything, just some long wolf paw gloves with furry forearms and the mask whose fur formed a mane almost that covered his shoulders and mingled with his own long hair down his back. Colin shrugged. His own skin and his scars would make up for the rest --- and be more realistic anyway! It came with this cool necklace and a couple arm rings.

Colin took up his wand and gave his a costume a tap. "Wicked!" he said as he tried various expressions. His lips curled back menacingly and he bared his hugely outsized fangs, he flared his nostrils opened his mouth wide like he was going to bite someone. "Heheh. Noice." His Ma had really outdone herself! He wondered if Clair would be at the party too, or a different one. He'd love to sneak up behind her dressed like this! He realised that the stance the feet gave him caused him to rise up a few extra inches. She probably wouldn't want to kiss him dressed like this, though. He tucked his wand away and wondered what it would be like to kiss Clair. He felt a tingle run all up his spine and when he looked closely in the mirror, he could see how huge his pupils had gotten.

Colin took a deep breath, let out a yip of excitement and began the long run up to the Ballroom! Once there, he was not disappointed with the party at all! Everyone was wearing costumes, so it was difficult to tell who was who! He could scent out Keith, oh, and Kim! Both his Gryff friends were here. He didn't have to sniff out the Snek Squad. A quick glance towards the refreshments table revealed a huge Slytherin green apple --- that could only be Jannette in her first rate costume! She did look she was having some difficulty with the arms, though. He decided to help her manage her niffler sized appetite for all things sweet! And the rest of the gang must be over there as well! He could see that Fairy Loops had arrived just before him and was heading for the sweets as well.

Colin felt so happy to see a lot of friends here! He took a deep breath as he stepped into the hall and howled:

"YAWOOOOOOOO!!!"

One stormy fall night, I had my books spread out all over my bed, doing some studying. I was bored so I rolled off the bed, slipped on my shoes and wandered out of my dorm. Once in the common room I
went over to the bulletin board and looked at it. I never
read it, no one did, and most of the posters were from last year. Then I noticed one that was from this year. It was about a Halloween part that was happening… Tonight! Cool.

I hurried back over to my trunk and dug out the options that were closest to a costume. One was a large black cloak so I could be a vampire. Ive already got a bit of Vampire blood in me, so nah. I thought. I looked at the other option I had, which was a hockey jersey. Perfect. I took everything out of my trunk to grab my hockey stick. I couldn’t not take it… right? I barely fit in my trunk in the first place but I knew it would come in handy. I grabbed my blue penguins jersey and threw on it on. I grabbed my helmet and popped it on. The party had started 30 minutes ago, so I hurried to the rarely used ballroom and when I got there I looked in and slowly walked in. multiple students we already there, so I casually walked in.

I looked around at the costumes that were already there. Apple, Werewolf, Vampire, Peter Pan and Edward Scissor Hands. I wandered over to the spooky themed snack table and began snacking on the assorted candies.

The great thing about Hallowe'en costumes is that people aren't supposed to know who you are. Who would ever suspect a werewolf going to a costume party as a --- werewolf! The only problem with this line of reasoning, as Colin was coming to understand, was that everyone there knew who he was --- or almost everyone! Almost all the scents in the room were familiar, with perhaps two exceptions, and one of those was still nagging at the back of Colin's brain. The Snek Squad, of course, were his friends; and so were Kim and Bailey and Keith and they'd all seen his scarred body and would certainly recognise the boy inside the werewolf! So Colin resigned himself to not actually being able to scare anyone, with the possible exception of Jannette.

She was a smart girl, though. Sure, the Niffler seemed to be all about sweets and treats --- and, true to form, she was stationed at the snack table trying to grab treats with her wee saurian arms. Colin couldn't help but smile --- which meant that his werewolf face looked like its horrific grimace wanted to rend her flesh and gobble her up like an apple tart! He decided to go over to the treat table himself.

One person, though, he really didn't want to see was Lily Brown. His dear cousin. She'd outed him to her boy friend Oliver. He suspected that Oliver must be either the non-Kim skeleton boy or the lad with all the knives on his hands. He wondered if those were characters from some sort of muggle story --- if so he'd have to find out what they were about!

At the very least, he'd have to ask knifey boy how he could possibly do up his trousers without, you know, hurting himself!

But Lily? He suddenly didn't feel like eating much as he walked over to where his friends were gathered. Colin didn't feel much like hanging around either. She was dressed as a vampire. Good choice --- she certainly sucked all the fun out of this party for Colin. He wasn't certainly if she'd noticed him or not. There was always a chance she'd have enough sense to not come over.

He wondered if Sophia would show up. He hadn't seen her in such a long time, and he really missed her company! He'd like to have talked with Kim. Maybe he'd seen her, but he was with --- wait, was that Bailey? Whoa. Their costumes seemed to compliment one another, like they were from the same story or something. He wasn't sure what to make of that! But those thoughts got set aside once he got over the treats table.

"Greetings, my snakey friends! Let's see --- Red Ridinghood, Dr. Fairy Loops, Applesaurus and --- what happened to you, Vee? Looks like someone broke your head into pieces and tried to put it all back together! At least the Snek Squad is one hundred percent spooky!"

Why was this so difficult? It's just stupid candy! The Niffler continued trying, she wasn't gonna give up -- well she did give up on the apples, but that was different. She decided to crouch down, her hands swiping at the cauldron, it was like she was a claw machine trying to get a prize. As the girl continued trying for what felt like hours, a familiar voice from behind her began to talk.

“Hey Jannette! Nice outfit, it fits you.”

It was Red, it was obvious to Jannette, she knew the voice from a mile away. Sighing heavily, the girl gives up in semi-defeat, another victory for the sweets. "OOooh hey Violeh'," She'd turn her heel, a welcoming Slytherin grin appearing on her face, "T'anks moi-OIIIIII!"¹ A high-pitched squeal escapes her breath, as she'd flinch backward. While it was Violet who was talking to her, what scared her half to death was Vee's costume. It had stitches everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE. It must've been some sorta muggle character that Jannette definitely didn't wanna know anything about.

“This is awesome. Oh! I saw you struggling to have one..there you go!”

Well, that changed everything. From being scared to a million miles a minute, The Niffler's eyes sparkled. The sugary caramel green apple! It was all hers for the taking, or well all for the taking with the help of Vee of course. "OOoooh yer a loife savah Vee!~"² Taking the apple, Jannette moves her hands inside the costume and begins eating it from the collar of her apple costume. There was a subtle irony in all this. An Applebottom, eating an apple in an apple costume. Yeah, that makes sense. "MMmmm,~" She says munching on the apple, "Yerh coshhume iz pre'heh scarhe..."³ chunks of apple would fall from her mouth as she speaks.

"An apple eating an apple! That is a very funny outfit Jannette, you never disappoint! You both are just killing it with those outfits!"

Didn't take long for someone to get the irony in that! "Heyyy Irinah~" Jannette starts to giggle at her comment, I mean to be fair, Jannette was slaying with her costume. "Oi know I do be loike dah sometimes..." She says, twisting her hips as she does a kissy face, posing like a model on a runway with the apple in her hand by her face. She looked a little off-character, but in all fairness, Jannette was way too comfortable around the girls now for her to care about embarrassment from others.

"Do you want some too? Where are the boys? Are they not here yet? And they say girls are always late!"

Finishing her apple, the girl giggled before looking to Irina, "Please~" She says, with manners, taking the purple liquid cup, with her hands from the collar of her costume before taking a sip. "Righ'?!" She exclaims, agreeing with Irina. She never understood the stereotype, especially with the boys here at Hogwarts. Every time Jannette sets anything up involving the male species they always seem to have a history of being fashionably late. "I' doesn' surprise me anymore men are usually t'is la'e i's fine t'ough we can jus' 'ave a girls chi' chah'."⁴ As the girls talked about the typical days of Hogwarts, it didn't take long for Dr. Loops to show up.

"This weather seems pretty appropriate, I reckon,"

”An angel? That’s like a wolf wearing a sheep skin!”

Okay, it was fine for Rebecca to be late, he was SLAYING in that angel costume, especially when he was eating away at the gummies in the cauldron. "Well look who fooiiiinally showed up!~" She joked, laughing, "I's good t'see yah Rebecca yah look really good in yer Angel Cos'ume!~" Though before anything else could happen, a loud howl echoed through the ballroom.

"YAWOOOOOOOO!!!"

Jannette flinched again, as some purple liquid spilled a little on her costume. "AHhhh -- realleh..." She mutters, sucking her teeth in frustration as she'd try wiping off the purplish stain on her green costume. It didn't take long for a large crowd now to gather by the sweets table. Who knew the Snek Squad can make a crowd like this?

"Greetings, my snakey friends! Let's see --- Red Ridinghood, Dr. Fairy Loops, Applesaurus and --- what happened to you, Vee? Looks like someone broke your head into pieces and tried to put it all back together! At least the Snek Squad is one hundred percent spooky!"

The way he spoke, and by how tall he was, it was obvious that it was Colin in that costume. He looked unrecognizable! Jannette then chuckled, her getting arms back through the sleeve of her costume, "RRrraaawwrrr!" She squeaks, waving her tiny hands in a menacing manner toward Colin as she gives her best Jannette Applesaurus-Rex impression. In all honesty, it really wasn't menacing, or scary, the best way to describe it was like a child really trying to look scary, but can't. "Nae we're one hundred 'n TEN percen' spooky!~"⁵ She said matter-of-factly, "Yer cos'ume makes yah look loike yer abou' t'ea' me y'know."⁶ She was blunt about it, I mean Colin did look like she was gonna eat him. I mean he looked like a werewolf, what would only make it scarier was if he really was a werewolf.

Oh Jannette, if only you knew...
