Summer Camp Flood Welcoming Bonfire

Marcia was angry with herself clutching her blanket to her chest. At first she didn't want to go to the bonfire, she rather would just go home, but that wasn't possible anymore.

Just a few days before the year had ended she had seen a sheet advertising a workshop of Herbology. She would have loved to be part of it, but on the other hand she had missed home. She didn't want to register since her wish to see her parents was greater, when an owl had appeared. Apparently her brother had written their parents and they gave her permission to stay over the holidays to attend the workshop. So that's what she did: she had bid her brother farewell with a heavy heart, knowing that she wouldn't see her parents before Christmas.

She was so excited, although her dorm was now rather quiet, till she had found out, that the registration was closed and that she had been too late. The same day she considered visiting her Head of House in order to ask her if she could leave the school, but she didn't dare to bother her professor.

There still was the Summer Camp, she told herself, eyes lowered and with a heavy frown. The bonfire had just started and many students had already found their way down to the Campgrounds, that were created for the holidays. Marcia didn't want to be near anyone, so she searched for a spot a few feet away and sat down on her blanket. She had taken the blanket from the Common Room and was prepared to clean it afterwards. For now she watched the bonfire and tried to forget her homesickness.

Yes, Dinah had also heard about the sign ups for the Herbology event. Dinah hadn’t signed up herself, mainly because she had been too nervous to. She wasn’t sure anyone she knew would be there and she didn’t want to be alone learning about plants. While she definitely liked Herbology, it was one of her more successful subjects, she wasn’t sure how much she wanted to do of it during the summer. Surely the summer was for games and relaxing and getting rid of the end of term blues. At least that’s what all the television shows said it was for.

I don’t suppose it would be too bad to learn stuff this summer, just hopefully in a fun way I guess.” Dinah shrugged, pulling her legs up in a similar way to how Lilith had and tucked her knees beneath her chin.

I’m not sure. I’d have thought there probably would be a quidditch event. It is the national wizarding sport after all. I’ve never played before. Only ever ridden a broom once in flying lessons. What about yourself?” Dinah tore her gaze away from the picturesque view of the bonfire and looked questioningly at Lilith.

"I played a lot when I was little. I kind of . . . took a break from it until I came back to Hogwarts. I play Chaser," Lilith added. Memories flickered in her mind of riding a broom as her she would chase her around the fields in Ireland. Happier memories, but even those Lilith pushed to the back of her mind. Instead, the thought of when she was at Hogwarts, dipping between the rings with her cloak blowing around her, one with the wind. She couldn't wait till next year's Quidditch try-outs.

"Do you know how to play?" Lilith asked. Quidditch was a subject she knew well and openly talked about. She assumed Dinah was a Muggleborn, maybe a Half-blood. That would explain why in the tunnels she didn't have knowledge of Chimaera or how she has never flown a broom before. "Aye, it is a fun game though. Maybe there do their own little Quidditch Cup with the Cabins? Do you know what position you are in?"

Lilith scanned Dinah. She didn't look like much of a Beater. Anyone could be a Chaser at first glance. Probably not a Seeker. Lilith would bet her money more on a Keeper or Chaser if the girl even knew what those positions were. It wasn't like Lilith hated to explain her genius though.

Alexx was leaning into her seat, watching the fire roar. She considered flipping through a comic or two to distract herself from all the thoughts running through her head, but she was too lazy to reach into her bag to grab one. People were interacting all around her, she was sure she looked like a loner. That wasn't a wrong assumption to make, she sort of was. Silently, she cursed herself for signing up for this camp when she had basically no friends going.

It seemed like a fun idea, and it was an easy way to get out of going home. then again, after being having her nose nearly broken by a certain raven-haired Gryffindor, whose name she came to discover was Lilith, Alexx was more than ready to run home, wherever that was these days. She wanted so badly to run straight into her older brothers arms and cry about her problems over a box of pizza and a Marvel marathon. But alas, here she was, still at school.

In all fairness, Alexx didn't find it so bad. Respectfully, what friends she did have, which were very few, were all socializing with people who she didn't recognize. Maybe it truly was time for Alexx to get her head out of her comics. She really couldn't help it, she had no choice but to be introverted. It isn't like someone of her like was truly able to lead a normal life. She had siblings to interact with and that was it. She supposed, later tonight, once in her cabin, she could possibly start writing a letter to Mikey and Emaline. Tex wouldn't read it, he wouldn't care how she's doing. But she knew Mikey would, and he'd read it to Emaline, too.

See, Alexx had expected to be spending quality time with her siblings this summer. She wanted to take them back to France, maybe see Chivaniac again. But here she was. That seemed to be the situation she was always stuck in. There were so many things she preferred over whatever situation she had gotten herself into, but here she was...

"Wright... yeah, Professor Wright would be a good pick, certainly," Ami said with her usual wide smile. The Herbology professor had never done anything wrong to her, and Ami hadn't riled her up at any point, so Ami held nothing again the professor. "Being together would be pretty cool," she added, although she cast a glance at Amadea whilst speaking. She couldn't help it, but she and the Hufflepuff had grown remarkably close over the course of the year, and Ami held the prefect in the highest light, respect-wise.

Syrah had come up to sit with them, as well, and Ami waved a silent hello to her. They had met in the Ballroom, Ami fooling around like the idiot she was, and they had experimented with some magic together. They were pretty chill, and the Hufflepuff hoped she'd see more of her through camp.

"I wonder how it's gonna work, then," Ami mused, staring into the flames, the warmth reflecting onto her irises, flickering and dancing about. "This whole... camp thing, I mean. Like, in America, summer camps were just kids fooling around until they got hurt... but I feel like here, we'd actually learn something." Because hey, they were at Hogwarts, and this summer camp full of their professors? Surely, they were going to learn new spells, or something.

Faye calmly walks down to the bonfire noticing some cabins in the distance. She enjoys the cool night air brushing against her exposed arms and legs as she was finally able to wear a tank top and some shorts that were not of school dress code. Finding a bench to sit on she notices some other students and teachers talking but she chooses not to interrupt and lets the flames heat lick her skin.

laying back on the bench she gazes at the stars and smiles slightly thinking about the owl she sent to her family a few days ago. her mother and father were proud while her siblings were disappointed that they wouldn't see their older sister this year. they sent her some candies and some money in case she needed something to snack on. she pulled out a butterscotch and unwrapped it before popping the candy in her mouth and sliding the wrapper in her pocket so she doesnt litter. yawning she looks at her watch and notices how late it is she shuts her eyes resting for the time being and hoping that the cabin assignments would be shared soon enough so she could go to bed before 3 in the morning.

Dinah had only vaguely heard of Quidditch. She had first heard the word while she was walking down Diagon Alley and had immediately been curious as to what it might mean. She had quickly bought a book from the second hand book shop and read up on the sport till she had a vague idea of what it entailed.

Looking over Lilith, Dinah could sort of tell she was a quidditch player. She had a sporty build and despite her smallish height, seemed perfectly able to work her way around a broom with a certain degree of skill.

I know the basics...I mean I’ve read about it so I know the positions and the rules. I’ve never actually played myself though.” Dinah confessed feeling slightly embarrassed. Admittedly everyone she had spoken to so far at Hogwarts, or almost everyone, knew about quidditch. She cursed her damned muggle upbringing for isolating her from yet another group of people she had the potential to be friends with.

I’m not sure what position I am having never played but I guess it’d be fun to find out. Hopefully they’ll have a quidditch event and then I could maybe try it then?”

Dinah smiled thinking about herself on a broom, flying after the balls part of a team. She’d never been a sports kind of person before now but she felt that if she tried it there was a good chance she’d very much enjoy it. Maybe if she played her cards right she could convince Lilith to teach her. Although Lilith could certainly be a little arrogant in showing off her intellectual prowess, Dinah knew to look past it and see that she was in fact just helping or informing her. She’d actually really grown to like Lilith, which made her blood run cold as she was unfamiliar with the sensation having previously kept herself to herself and not allowing herself to become close to anyone.

"Hopefully," Lilith shrugged, gazing into the roaring orange and red fire. Their log was a good few feet away from the roaring flames, but that didn't stop the heat from tickling Lilith's face, causing her to lean away. She was one for the cool wispy air, not the suffocating warmth.

Lilith bounced her foot on the log. She pulled her head up from her hand from the bouncing as she stared into the fire. She was tired of the welcoming and just wanted to get into the adventure portion of this camp. It was only day one but Lilith yearned to go wondering in the Forbidden Forest or do as Dinah suggested, play a game of Quidditch. Maybe Lilith could teach her fellow Gryffindor a few things. That would mean Lilith could build her to her liking, make a player just how Lilith would want her. It would be as if she was drawing up a Quidditch player from a blank piece of paper.

A ghost of a smirk tugged on Lilith's lips as she never looked away from the bonfire. If this camp didn't have Quidditch, Lilith would be more than disappointed. She also hoped they had dueling and maybe even some sports that they didn't have in Hogwarts.

Mentions: Eris Fawley, Serena Towers, Max Avery, and whoever else is close enough to hear

This was definitely awkward.  The short redhead Dorothy had mistakenly assumed was a nobody, was in fact one of the people she had been told to meet.  Studying the girl with a critical eye, Dorothy bit her lip to stop from laughing.  She would never have known.  "Oh.  I'm sorry, I didn't- I've never- well, I didn't know what you looked like." The rehead, no, Eris Fawley demanded to know what she wanted with them.  Dorothy cocked her head at the question.  Had she come across as aggressive?  "Nothing.  I just need to be able to say I know you.  If I don't, she'll-" a pause was never a good thing.  "She'll be very disappointed."  It wasn't a lie.  If Madam Shafiq discovered that Dorothy had again failed she wouldn't be happy, and her stepdaughter didn't enjoy thinking about what happened when her mother grew angry.  Shafiq didn't get physical, it was her words that the young girl feared.  Her Egyptian tongue was as sharp as any blade.

The fire was hot, and the students were standing  fairly close to it.  Dorothy felt a trickle of sweat go down her neck as the heat rolled into her like waves on a beach.  The smoke was making her eyes sting and burn. This bonfire, once enjoyable, was now becoming a bit of an annoyance.  Turning back to the rapidly growing group, she politely announced her departure.  "I think I'll get a bit farther away from the fire.  I hope to get to know you all this summer.  Perhaps we can become friends.  I hope you all have a pleasant evening."  Dorothy smiled, causing a dimple to appear on each cheek.  She promptly strutted away from fire, feeling slightly relieved to get away.

They all seemed decently agreeable.  Eris was definitely short tempered (get it?), and Dorothy had a feeling they would clash over their differences.  Despite her flaws,  Miss Fawley was intriguing and had admirable spunk.  Max was cool and collected, always calculating or plotting in a typical Avery manner, while  Serena was genuine and sweet.  They were definitely an interesting group, filled with different characters and personalities.  Mostly though, the group was filled with girls.  No wonder Max was so eager to leave.   Dorothy glanced in his direction and observed his actions.  He was standing off to the side  and hacking up a lung.  Best to leave him to it.  Turning on her heel, the blonde stalked over to a nearby log and sat down.  It was far enough from the tall flames that her eyes weren't effected by the smoke, yet close enough that she could still enjoy the bonfire.  Resting her arms on her knees, Dorothy stared at the flickering lights.  This would be a summer to remember.

Sorry for the yucky writing everyone!  I've had a super busy week filled with cleaning and running.  I'm really embarrassed by the quality of this post, and I'll try to do better in the near future.  Give me some grace, I'm running on four hours of sleep! Sticks tongue out at "popular group"/giant mob
The heat burned against Lucy's face, and she squirmed backwards, dragging her butt through the dirt int he process, as she listened to Anatole explain his seclusion. Popular second years? Her mind latched on to the phrase, and she sat up straight and peered around at the different groups. There were popular kids at Hogwarts? She narrowed her eyes and her gaze lingered one each group. Which group was the popular group? Perhaps the one with the huge group of students? The other groups were rather small, so it had to be that group that he was talking about. In a moment of childishness, she stuck her tongue out at the group. It wasn't a malicious gesture, but more an act of solidarity for the boy next to her.

"Well, poop on them. I don't know anyone that doesn't like you, so that makes you popular in my book."
She turned to smile at the side of his face as he looked at the fire. "But I kind of know what you mean. When I first showed up I panicked. There were so many people here already. But it's okay - we're here to make friends, right?"

Anatole went on to mention the incident. A laugh bubbled out of her chest as she clutched her knees with her fingers. Lucy had somehow almost completely forgotten about how they had met. "Oh my word, I can't believe you brought that up." Her eyes twinkled as she turned to look at the fire, watching the flames dance. "Yeah, of course, I have him for Potions. I mean, everyone does, I guess. And I signed up for the Herbology thing and he's supposed to be leading that with Professor Wright. But I haven't ever had to talk to him one on one again." She faked a shudder, recalling the harrowing incident. It seemed much more hilarious now, and there was no lasting emotional or physical damage.

"Things were pretty quiet this year, though. I didn't meet as many people as I wanted to."
A quick glance around the fire confirmed the truth of her words. Out of all the people here, she could identify most by sight and put names with a few, but she hadn't formed relationships with them. A weight settled onto her chest, thinking of all the missed opportunities to make friends. Is it too late? Are the groups already formed, like Anatole said? Are we destined to be loners? The Hufflepuff unconsciously drew her knees in closer to her chest at this terrible thought. I don't want to be alone!

With a stroke of sudden inspiration, Lucy dropped her hold on her knees. No. We don't have to be alone. She mentally reassured herself before putting her hand on Anatole's shoulder, hoping this would cause him to look at her. "Listen, if we are ever at a point where one of us doesn't have friends or someone to sit with, we should make a pact to always invite the other person. That way we can meet more people and never be alone! Even if we're already in a group - like those people," she gestured to the popular mob he had referred to before, "We'll be sure to invite each other in." Her head tilted to one side, blonde hair falling over her shoulder as she smiled at him, waiting for a reply. In her mind, this was a no-brainer deal. The reassurance of always having someone to sit with, do an activity with, or... really, anything, would take off a huge burden of stress. She wasn't concerned that they didn't know each other super well - friendships had been forged over far less impressive things than what they had gone through.

"What do you think? Pinky swear?" She stuck out her pinky in front of his body, holding it out cheerfully, expectantly.
