To Spruce It Up
With the end of class having arrived, Cecilia gathered her belongings and quickly stuffed them into her schoolbag. She stood a moment, as if contemplating something. Letting out a breath of air in a soft sigh, she clutched her bag to her side and began the walk to the exit of the greenhouse, her wonderings making her one of the last students to leave. She furtively glanced to Professor Wright, head down with hair covering most of her face.
She by no means had a nefarious plan, instead a question. Seeing that no other students were approaching the woman, she turned away from the exit, instead backtracking over to the professor. Adjusting the bag over her shoulder, she fiddled with her hands, taking in a breath. The 11-year-old stood awkwardly for a moment, looking over all the plants in the room. She couldn't help but admire all of the specimens growing there, many of them she had never seen before.
Finally, she settled her eyes upon Professor Wright, straightening her posture. "Professor Wright, I had a question.."
She obviously knows that! I already messed up.. She berated herself within the sanctity of her mind, before attempting again, "I was wondering if.. if I could have a plant? Something to decorate my dorm room with. We got a table, but nothin' on it. Are there any flowers or succulents I could have? I promise to take good care of it."
She smiled at the woman, hoping she would be convinced of the request, and grant her a plant.

To Spruce It Up
The day had been boring, as most days at the castle tended to be. The hordes of students passing through her class did not seem to care much for the art of herbology, most likely fans of other frontiers. Sorrel was unbothered by the apparent lack of talent for plants in her Greenhouse, but she was bothered by the fact she had to teach crazy students.
Already, she had dealt with children making up their own lessons, crazed children who thought she was going to change their grades, and a whole variety of strange happenings. As First Year Herbology ended, the woman sat behind her old desk, ruffling the feathers of her trusty bird once before turning to the stack of papers that was left to grade.
Even with the end of the year encroaching, the amount of work was pressing onto Sorrel. Coming from a job spent roaming the countryside, without any trace of other humans or papers, it was a shock to arrive to a school with hundreds of people and with papers to grade, always.
Looking up from her papers to watch the stream of students wandering out of her class, one girl with brown hair seemed to be lingering behind. Putting down her quill as the girl walked over, praying the girl had forgotten what she was doing, and was about to leave, Sorrel looked up and watched the small thing teeter over.
But than she spoke, and a soft smile graced Sorrel's lips. A fellow plant lover. Just a small innocent child, with hopes of decorating her dorm room. She was the same house Sorrel had been during her three years at Hogwarts, and within a moment, the woman's mind was made up.
"Yes, of course." Standing up, brushing her dirt stained hands on purple robes, Sorrel pushed herself away from the desk and the stack of papers. Motioning for the girl to follow, Sorrel lead her to the back of the greenhouse where a small pocket of pink flowers grew.
"This is a pink azalea. It might make your dorm room nicer." The professor said, clearly awkward, even in the presence of a small girl. There was nothing left to say, so Sorrel simply bent down to carefully pluck a few of the flowers. There was something calming about the familiar motion, and when she pulled up, Sorrel smiled again at the girl, offering the flowers out.
"There are pots over there," Sorrel pointed to a corner of the greenhouse. "If you need one. I don't have vases at the ready, just, uh pots. "

To Spruce It Up
She had been holding her breath. The professor had smiled as she spoke, that was a good sign! The few seconds it took for the woman to decide felt like an eternity for the first year, mind racing with worst case scenarios. Her childish hope was satiated with Sorrel Wright's words, and her small smile transformed into a large and toothy grin. "Thank you so much!"
She followed after the professor, a small skip in her step to keep up with the taller woman. Her eyes flickered from the planters in the greenhouse, to her feet to make sure she wouldn't step on Sorrel's heel, and then back to the plants. Cecilia tried to identify the mundane ones she knew, and the ones she had learned about during her time at Hogwarts.
There were too many! There was a blur of greens, blues, purples and pinks, along with dozens of other colours and shapes. Reaching the back of the greenhouse, her attention zeroed in on the pink azaleas the professor pointed out. Moving her position to stand beside the woman, her overexcitement didn't notice the awkwardness in her professor. "Ooh.."
Her grin never faded, and instead she watched as Sorrel picked a small cluster of the flowers. They held the promise of a beautiful dorm room, and she eagerly accepted them, keeping hold of the dirt that protected the roots. Tottering over to the pots, she quickly began the process of replanting them. The dirt was carefully packed down, and extra soil was scattered to fill in empty space. All the while, she gushed her thanks to the professor. "Thank ya, truly! This'll look great in my dorm, I really 'ppreciate it. I'll take extra good care of it, promise!"
She lifted the pot into her arms, mentally noting that she'd need to water it when she got back to the dorm. Sending Sorrel one last, toothy grin, she began the long trek to the Ravenclaw tower, where the pink azalea would live happily on the dormroom's table.
