Owlery Love
The Owlery was a quaint, peaceful place, always filled with owl droppings, although somehow one would never step on them. Taisia liked to sit up with the birds and watch the sunsets in the afternoons or (of course) write letters to her family back home. Today she had letters for her sisters, but she hadn't sent them yet, she was just watching. Sometimes people she knew would come in and she would nod, or give a hello. Usually, they already had their letter written and just sent it and left. Taisia would yet again glance down and read her letters.
"H-hi Lazarus," she stammered.
Dear Odelia,
I hope this letter finds you well (oh no, look how formal I've become). I haven't written in a while. How's everything back home? Are you missing me yet? I haven't been up to much, but I did go to the Fall Ball with a boy named Lazarus Lavey (that's right, you get to hangout with boys without dad's supervision). I can't wait until you go to school!
Love, Taisia.
Taisia laughed and looked up, but immediately fell silent. She was staring into the breathtaking eyes of Lazarus Lavey.Dearest Althea!
I can't believe how long it's been since I wrote. Nevertheless, I thought I'd update you on the Lazarus thing! We had a great time at the Fall Ball and held hands, but I haven't really talked to him since. I kind of want him to ask me out (please don't let dad see this letter),. I know I'm eleven but you had your first boyfriend around my age! Speaking of, has anything happened with Hot Waiter with the Pastries? I really hope you guys end up together, you're so perfect!
Lots of Love,
Taisia
"H-hi Lazarus," she stammered.

Owlery Love
Lazarus Lavey was watching Taisia as she read her letters, taking a glance every once in a while over her shoulder at the contents, his eyes drawn automatically to his own name. He read along one of the letters, his eyes stopping at I kind of want him to ask me out. He read that one again to make sure it was correct. He blushed, and moved away so he would not be found out so easily, and faced her. As she stammered, he smiled. "Hello, Taisia. It's been a while, right? I really enjoyed the ball. I've been missing having your company." He held a letter in his own hand, a letter home to tell his parents all about this new girl, how he's been doing great in classes, and all that. "I was just on my way here to send this letter home. I'm going to tell them all about you and the ball." Lazarus smiles again, his eyes meeting Taisia's for a moment before raising his arm and letting an owl hop onto it. He gave the letter to the owl, and watched as it flew off to deliver it. Lazarus sighed, and then looked back to tasia, stepping down from the open air, and moved over to her side.

"Hello, Taisia. It's been a while, right? I really enjoyed the ball. I've been missing having your company."
Taisia couldn't speak.
THINK! THINK! She prompted herself. Her mind was blank. Come one! He's talking to you about the Ball! He misses your company!
"Sure."
Oh my lord. She flushed beetroot red and hoped that the ground would open up and swallow her. Sure? Sure? Sure wasn't an answer! Come on think of a way to recover. Maybe he didn't hear it?
"I-i miss you-u too." Why was it so hard not to speak WITHOUT stammering!
She noticed a letter in his hand and wondered, no hoped, that there was something about her inside. If only he didn't have it in the envelope already she could pretend to fall. He could either catch her or fall with her, dropping the letter. Maybe she could just fall and see if he caught her. It wouldn't even be too hard, her legs were already made of jelly!
"I was just on my way here to send this letter home. I'm going to tell them all about you and the ball."
Now she was in real danger. He was talking about her in the letter! His smile melted her heart as he looked into her eyes. Then he sent his letter off and moved to stand beside Taisia. She quickly shoved her hands (with the letters) into her robe and dropped them in a pocket. Her heart rate quickened.
Say something!
"So um."
Anything!
"So what exactly did you write about me?" She managed to say it without any stammering and minimal blushing but still refused to meet his eye. It was meant to sound bashful, flirty, but came out a bit like an interrogation.

Lazarus chuckled as he watched her fluster about, fidgeting with his hands as he looked at her. Gulping down his nerves, he nudged her hand, eventually holding it in his own after fighting with himself weather he should stop or not. He looked back out at the open air. "I'd like you to meet my parents one of these days. They're gardeners." He smiled and looked back at Taisia. "Ah, the letter. I just told them that I had a lot of fun at the ball, that I met a very nice girl that I actually liked a lot.." He smiled, and blushed, thinking of the things he had written. "I told them that the girl I met, she really was special, stunning even in the dress she wore. And that I was thinking of asking her out on a proper date. If she would agree to go." Lazarus sighed, looking around him. This wasn't exactly the most romantic place, and what did he know about romance anyway? He tried not to look at the owl droppings, keeping his eyes locked onto Taisia's. "Would you? Like to go out with me sometime? He looked at the ground, his whole face turning red. He could feel his ears and cheeks burning, as if they were on fire. He looked back up at Taisia, offering a small, nervous smile. "It could be a lot of fun.."

He wanted her to meet his parents?
Taisia awaited his reply on the contents of his letter.
He had had a lot of fun. At the ball. With her. He met a very nice girl who he really liked.
At this point, Taisia was just rephrasing everything he said. Repeating it in her head and devouring the words.

I was thinking of asking her out on a proper date. If she would agree to go. Did he really just say that? Did he want to go out with her?
Their eyes met now, and Taisia couldn't tear herself away from the boy in front of her.
"Would you? Like to go out with me sometime?
This was really happening.
Did he just ask me out? Why am I not saying anything? Come on Taisia, say something! Anything! Say yes for Merlin's sake! Do something Taisia!
Her skin tingled when she took his hand. They had held hands at the ball, but that was different. That was in the dark, when they were dancing. Which, as partners, they kind of had to do.
"I'll go out with you Lazarus."
Now what? How did this sort of thing work? Did they go out now? No Taisia. Just keep looking into his eyes.
She was aware the 'cute gazing' had turned into staring and zoned back in. Hopefully no one would walk in on them. She reached for his other hand, to find it, to find something to do. The 'silence' wasn't exactly awkward, but no one had moved in a while.

Owlery Love
Lazarus stared back at her, blushing. They stood like that for quite a while before breaking out of the trance. He stared at the ground for a beat then looked back up at her. He then smiled sheepishly, and aimed both of her hands slowly to his own cheeks, placing his hands over her own. His face was burning, white hot to the touch, red as a tomato. He laughed. "I'm glad. I was worried for a second there, that the ball was all you were interested in with me." He shivered from the cold, and looked all around the owlery. "Oh, well, we should probably get out of this cold. I'll let you deliver whatever you were holding when I walked in. I'm sorry for interrupting you." He let go of her hands and smiled, deciding to walk away while he could still save face. He waved at Taisia, saying "I'll see you in claaaass! in a sing-songy tune as he walked away happily.
As soon as he had made some distance, halfway down the stairs, he skidded to a stop and fell against the wall, seeming to slide down more and more like slime or jello, until he was on the ground. I actually asked her out he thought to himself. He had been replaying the moment over and over again in his head, while touching his face occasionally. Finally, he looked back up the stares to make sure she hadn't left yet, hoisted himself back on his feet, and made the rest of the trek down the stairs, and walked with a hop in his step back to his dorm.
