Nessie had mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, now that she'd helped with a duel in summer camp, she felt slightly more confident about doing so again. On the other hand, she hadn't really enjoyed watching duellists leave the platform in need of medical care. Duelling hadn't seemed quite so serious until she'd seen its effects and injuries up close, and now ...

Well, now Nessie thought she'd rather experience such things herself rather than watching others suffer from them. And for that, she was in luck, because tomorrow would finally be her chance to participate in her first ever duel! But for today, she'd have to watch the others once more and do her best to ensure that they'd all be okay at the end of it.

The young Hufflepuff stepped up to the piste. "Match 3 will start up here in a few minutes! We'll have Gryffindor's Meenauh Silmataurea and Alec Mason versus Ravenclaw's Delilah Stewart and Eun-ji Lee Hunt." Naturally, Nessie looked up to the four who would be joining her, as they were all older duellists who were so very capable and competent in the second year's eyes. She was thrilled at the chance to observe them all in action, and couldn't wait to see what magic they'd use!

She beamed excitedly at the four duellists. "Is everyone ready to start?" Nessie asked, waiting for a signal from each duellist before proceeding. "Alright then here we go ... begin!"

2022, Stage 1 Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 3
Just this summer, they faced the 3v3v3 battle, and they eliminated their opponents. Now it was a regular season and who could guess what destiny prepared for them? No other but Delilah Stewart — the scariest duellists out of 9, because everyone was practically targeting her. Well, Meenauh wasn't targeting her directly, but she did add a few spells that lead to Delilah's defeat.

They had quite a few weeks for practice, so she felt comfortable with Alec. He was a confident duellist with lots of strong sides.

As they stepped up on the stage and turned to each other, Meenauh smiled at both opponentesses.

"Hey, Delilah," she voiced that one and grinned, knowing that the 6th-year girl remembered the summer duel very well. She decided not to say anything like 'You remember it was just a game?', though she really wanted. If Delilah would erase her from the surface of this planet, she wouldn't be able to do anything about it anyway, so why bothering.

She was already hearing the incantations in Delilah's mind and spells spreading into all the directions. Whatever this game will bring, it might be painful.

Another school year, another duelling match. Despite how well he'd done during his duels last year he had found that when competing in the summer match that he still had quite a few weaknesses to work on. Alec didn't head into the school year without hope, if anything the loss had given the Gryffindor the motivation he needed to practice and brush up on his duelling skills. He was going to be better, he had to be.

Working hard he practiced making every moment count up until the first of the official duels, the true test, the challenge to show what his practice had accomplished. He was ready to have a great duel, face off against worthy competitors, be proud of his work and efforts despite the outcome. Smiling, the Gryffindor paused to take a deep breath to first deal with his nervous jitters. Nodding to himself he walked to where him and Meenuah were to duel and took in the sight of their competitors.

Not only was the Gryffindor confident in his own abilities but the abilities of his partner as well. This having been one of the first times he found himself paired for a duel with an upperclassman as his teammate. Meenuah was an upperclassman, meaning she was likely to know a few more spells, and she would also be able to fend for herself, Alec knew he didn't have to worry about her.
“You both look like equally as skilled duellists,” Alec commented to the opposing team. He wanted to make this duel fun, start the duelling season off on a good note.

“How about we raise the stakes?” Alec offered, he paused for a moment tapping his chin with his wand in thought. Oh! Alec eyes lit up, “If me and Meenauh lose, I buy you two butterbeer, but, if Meenuah and I win, you have to buy us butterbeer,” the Gryffindor proposed know, holding a hand out for each of the two to shake to seal the deal(of course you don't have to shake Alec's hand and accept, this is mostly just to add to the rp aspect for fun!). Alec's eyes flickered to his partner of whom he had not formed of this impromptu deal beforehand. “Just trying to make the duel a little more interesting... You don't mind right?” It didn't affect her other than possible free butterbeer, it didn't seem like she would mind.

Whether or not the other team excepted the deal Alec would smile brighter and add, “may the better duellists win!”

Eun-ji felt rusty. Many Hogwarts duellists had the opportunity to participate in a match during summer camp but she couldn’t go and therefore lost a chance to further polish her skills. She did practice extra hard ever since returning to school to make up for it but it still didn’t feel enough. Having a mind of a perfectionist could be quite exhausting at times. It also didn’t help that her grandmother expected results. It would do the witch no good to lose her first duel of the year. Luckily, she had been paired with Delilah, which helped a great deal. They have been partners before and won. Granted, Eun-ji felt like Del pulled most of the weight back then but she wanted to believe she helped and she wanted to do even better today. It was nerve wrecking however. She was placed into senior league and put against her own classmate and an older girl that was in the same year as Delilah. That meant a lot of new and powerful spells Eun-ji couldn’t do.

Nevertheless, the younger of the Ravenclaw team kept her calm attitude as she greeted both opponents politely. She didn’t really know either of them although she recognized Alec from most of her classes. He was in the same year and yet they never had a proper conversation. “I’d say we are pretty equal so it’s bound to be interesting.” She responded to his initial statement. In fact, Eun-ji was a bit worried. It felt like she was lacking in so many ways and she only joined the duelling team last year. Having the age of a senior duellist didn’t necessarily guarantee you the experience or confidence for that matter. Well at least the atmosphere seems nice...Unlike the last one. She didn’t mind Hanako’s constant quips and banter but Starlee wasn’t exactly pleasant to be around. “Sure, I don’t see why not.” Eun-ji shook Alec’s hand to confirm the deal. There was still no desire to make new acquaintances on her side but the boy was most likely just trying to be friendly, which she wasn't mad at. And well…even if he meant it, she could do one butterbeer. The world wouldn’t end with one butterbeer.

The first duel of the school year, Delilah's favourite time of year. And it was with mostly, people she knew already. Giving a small wave back to Meenauh, her attention turned to Alec as he placed a small bet on. "Sounds good to me!" She stepped forward and shook his hand briefly before stepping back to her position.

Delilah did not plan on going down so easily this time around.

Nessie always found the start of a duel particularly interesting. What would the duellists do, when they hadn't yet seen what their opponents would be doing? She was quite fascinated, although admittedly she was beginning to realize that some of the same tactics she'd seen throughout the last duel she'd moderated would also come into play in this one.

The Ravenclaw duellists acted with great coordination, with Delilah's fearsome blasting curse headed towards both Gryffindors, and Eun-ji casting the most perfect tongue-tying spell that Nessie had ever seen. Nessie couldn't imagine being on the receiving end of both spells, but Meenauh handled it masterfully, with protego keeping herself safe from both. Eun-ji's spell dissolved on contact with the invisible shield, but Delilah wasn't so lucky. Part of her blasting curse ricocheted off unpredictably, and the floor near Delilah exploded. Fortunately for Delilah, she avoided the worst of it, but still Nessie thought that being hit by the flying splinters of floor couldn't have been pleasant.

Alec was not so lucky, with the remaining part of the blasting curse hitting the floor at his feet directly and causing the piste to explode. It looked especially painful, and to add insult to injury it looked like his wind jinx wouldn't be hitting Delilah in return.

Nessie hesitated for just a moment to ensure that the duellists were all well enough to continue, then nodded to confirm they should continue with the next round.

As she listened to Alec's suggestion, she giggled a bit and watched the handshakes happening.

The start of the duel was almost immediate, and Meenauh did the only thing she managed to think about — to raise a shield.

"Protego!"

Which was always a good idea, but in this particular case, it was the best idea. Seeing the Blasting Curse heading towards both of them, she realised Delilah mastered the spell splitting. It seems they didn't give her the chance to use it during the summer duel, so here she was.

The spell ricocheted towards the caster, which was a good thing, but Delilah managed to dodge and was only hit by occasional splinters. Alec had worse destiny and received the full power of the blast. Next, she saw another spell dissipating after hitting the shield — a very bright spell she avoided. And she left the shield down.

She nodded to Alec to make sure he was okay and simultaneously something around the lines of 'I told you she's a beast!', and that they needed to act fast.

There was no better way to start off a duel then a deal, a bet, a promise. With evenly matched opponents, Alec was excited for the duel, and a bet made it all that more interesting. The formal greeting of a handshake, a gesture of goodwill and a sign-off on the deal. Both opponents seemed equally as excited for the opportunity of some butterbeer on Alec, or the chance for it to be the other way around. They were confident, for only people confident in themselves made deals with the possibility of losing something. Though Alec supposed one was going to have less hesitance when the only thing at stake was butterbeer. Alec was happy Meenauh found the whole ordeal amusing, and shot her a sheepish look once finished. Meenauh wouldn't mind getting a butterbeer. Getting into position, Alec recalled the strategies they had gone over, and focused as he cast his spell. “Ventus,” the wind jinx, with luck it would help them, with luck he would be able to hit. However, Delilah was more evasive than the Gryffindor had expected her to be. He underestimated her rather talented dodging skills and missed.

Delilah was a powerful witch, skilled clearly, the type who could cast a spell, let it target more than one person. He'd seen it before, it was impressive. Delilah sent a spell Alec didn't know at both him and Meenauh. While Meenauh had pulled up the shield charm just in time, Alec wasn't so lucky. The force of the spell hit him unlike anything he'd seen before. Alec would freeze up for a moment from the shock of it all. His nose wrinkled before a smile edged it's way on to his lips. Right, Delilah had powerful spells, noted for next time. Alec couldn't be mad, far from it. He was impressed.

Eun-ji had cast a perfect tongue-tying curse but it hadn't gone as well as Delilah rounds of spells. Meenauh was able to easily defend herself from it. A shame considering how well the spell had been cast. Not that Alec wanted them to lose. Meenauh nodded to Alec, seemingly to check in him, and silent gesture about their competitors. Alec snickered, maybe he had slightly underestimated Delilah.

After some small talk and shaking hands, it was time to take places and begin their duel. Bet or not, Eun-ji would be doing her best to win this one but the gesture was nice for sure. While she didn’t join duelling to make friends, she would always prefer the friendly atmosphere over any unnecessary hostility. Smiling briefly into the audience, where she spotted Flash, the witch took a deep breath and focused on the task at hand. It would be nice to have a good start.

“Mimblewimble!” This was her first time using the spell in an official duel. So the hard work did pay off then. The girl thought when she managed to cast it perfectly. It was one of her best for sure. Unfortunately, no amount of hard work would change the fact that she was facing two skillful duellists and Meenauh had an advantage of more advanced spells as well. The shield was a brilliant reaction and so no matter how perfect Eun-ji’s spell was, it never got a chance to hit its target. Del and her spectacular welcoming bomb didn't fare much better. In fact, the shield caused it to ricochet and a few splinters went flying her way. Thankfully it didn't look too painful. The same couldn't be said about Alec however...

The younger of the Gryffindors didn't manage to avoid the hit and felt the full power of her partner's spell. Eun-ji felt a bit sorry for the boy but he took it like a champ. She didn't enjoy seeing other duellists getting hurt but it was part of the sport and they all knew it. She smiled at Delilah, once again in awe of her capabilities. Sure, she didn't get both of their opponents but it was still impressive and the Gryffindors seemed to agree. This was going to be an interesting fight for sure.
