Just a little over three years ago, Samantha had no idea how to cast a single spell and today she was moderating her first duel as Co-Captain. The brunette was excited about the first stage, especially with the updates to her favorite sport. Hoping the other duelists were just as thrilled about their duel as she was, she would greet every single one of them with a big smile.

"Welcome to match 8, everybody!" she would gather the attention of all the duellists and the spectators. "From the Viridian Vipers, Astrea Soleil Neptune and Ileen Knight will be dueling Alan Vanes and Elsa Veronica Bennett who represent the Pride of Pendrast today," Samantha introduced the duelists. "You all know the rules and I expect this to be a fair and fun duel," she added before taking a few steps back.

"Good luck," she wished both teams. "Alright" she would quickly check to see if all the duelists were ready. "Ready, set, GO!"

Another year, another season, another stage. This was gonna proof quite interesting and Alan was excited. Usually when he arrived at the piste he would spot the captain assigned to moderate his duel and hand over Tiger to them. However this time something else caught his attention when he entered the club room. Well it was less of a something and more of a someone. George hadn't even told Alan that he would be spectating his duel! It made Alan nervous but also a bit happy, a lot more was at stake now! But who was to say that George was even here to watch Alan's duel? Maybe he was there to watch another duel, after all simultaneously to his duel, there were two duels with Hufflepuff teams going on as well. So maybe Alan shouldn't get his hopes up, right? He did however want to make sure that Tiger was safe but still could watch properly, so before he headed to the piste and take a stance, he headed over to George and handed over the feline with a grin. "Make sure to look away, when I mess up," he chirped before heading back to the duelling stage. After all he didn't want to be disqualified by not showing up in time. However he was still first to arrive and thus took place and gave Samanta a nod. He heard a lot about her from Bubba, though he hadn't really had the chance to talk a lot to her himself. Alan took his wand from its holster and readied himself for the duel. He had high hopes that they would win this.

Ileen entered the stage once again a tad hesitantly. Not because she was scared, no. Once more, her morals had been conflicting with her values. Was it okay to cause damage when one swore to be a healer? The young brunette always had a hard time accepting that healing wasn’t enough and that one als had to be prepared to fight and defend oneself. So, here she was again, her chestnut wand in her hand, walking up the stage.
Her back straight and her chin up she entered the battle, giving Samantha a warm smile and a nod.
Her opponent, Alan, also received a friendly greeting. Ileen didn’t want to fight people she knew and respected, but yet the rules demanded it. Fighting Aida had taught her a lot and so she wouldn’t shy away from this challenge either. She did owe it to her friend, to Aida, her team, herself and also Alan. The boy deserved to be treated with respect and to take all she could give today. A respectable opponent.

Her own teammate on the other hand, Ileen didn’t know that well yet. Astrea and her had seen each other in dueling practice but their interactions had been almost nonexistent. Ileen respected her though. She seemed like a tryhard and someone who didn’t burn everything they touched. Also, the older girl was a tiny little bit scary. Ileen could only hope that she gave the others the creeps.
She offered her a smile. “Ready to bring this thing home?

After a long break, Nicky was on the stage once more, quietly observing her opponents. She had changed a lot over the summer, she was about three whole inches taller and looked a lot more grown up. She felt more grown up too. And she was going to take her duelling a lot more seriously in the upcoming year. Just before the duel started she greeted the opposing team with a wave and a smile, then got in position and looked to Alan. She was feeling lots of responsibility weighing down on her since this time she was paired up with the captain himself. If they lost, she would absolutely feel like it was on her because it would be a total disaster to blow a duel with the most experienced duellist on the team by her side. However, she quickly cast those thoughts away and focused on the duel at hand. She nodded reassuringly at Alan and smiled just before it started.
"We got this! Let's win this one for the house!"
She was once again ready to rock and RAWR.

From within the duelling sphere comes rare glimpses of the ever-elusive Astrea, who had long been outcasted from the thicket of adolescent society but has since eventually drifted into her own special classification of self-imposed isolation. Though she'd loathe neglect her duties as a Viper, her uneasy presence had confined her appearances at trainings and other such duel-related matters to quietly claimed areas set apart from the main area with only her loyal cat and training dummies as close company.

Most recently, Astrea had been alerted of the presence of Ileen Knight - fellow duelist and stage partner - but such forced interaction had never managed to breach her defensive walls, whether it be her first or last step on Scottish land. She knew very little about Knight, except for the obvious, and she was certain the same went for Ileen's own perception of her. Her unenviable reputation, however, could do nothing to sooth the jagged wounds of unpredictability sure to cut at even the solidest of plans.

Ascending the steps towards their designated area of the duelling piste, Astrea did not give the excited crowd much mind, too obviously experienced to give what would no doubt be a painful encounter much glory. Yet towards Ileen, Astrea could not be so curt as to completely disregard her partner's call to action as she did their opponents' acknowledgements. "Let us do well together." Her voice, though barely discernible and lacking much inflexion over the crowd’s chaos in its careful disuse, was filled with a distinct sense of unshakable inevitability. True to this conviction, she would not falter in any last-minute preparations for their duel at hand, methodically checking the ties upon her sleeves and readying her buzzing magic for excellence.

Slytherin's ambitions would remain as they were - ever persistent in their pursuit of excellent performances, if not victory outright. She knew not her ally’s approach to duelling, but such seriosity seemed to be universally shared between the entire house. No matter the outcome, Astrea was certain it would be one well-earned.

The nod from her fellow captain and the warm smile from Ileen, gave the young girl an extra confidence boost. These people trusted her, a third-year student, to look over a duel full of upperclassmen from which one was even a sixth year! Once all the duelists had taken their place, it was time for the duel to start and as soon as Samantha had given the green light, incantations were spoken by all the students.

From what the brunette could follow, Astrea had aimed for Alan with the Wind Jinx as a gust of wind appeared out of her wand. The gust of wind split itself in two and they would make their way toward both lions, which were able to avoid the strong winds. While her partner had aimed for the other duellist, Ileen had been able to create a raincloud above their heads. The cloud that was created by the sudden change of weather dangerously hung above the Gryffindor team and seemed ready to rumble.

The snakes weren't the only ones using the force of the wind in the first rounds as Nicky had created her own gust of wind and sent it Astrea's way. Unlike the fourth-year Slytherin, Nicky didn't manage to attack two duelists at the same time but she did manage to have her jinx hit the other student. Last but not least, there was Alan whose wand had been aimed in the same direction as his teammates. The Pressurized Water Charm that had left the tip of his wand was a very impressive spell, seemingly stronger than others of its kind. Samantha watched in awe as the perfectly cast spell moved toward the other side of the stage and missed its target.

How likely was it that a Ventus would split? Probably very unlikely and yet it was the fourth time in two duels that she was witnessing such power. Although both of them missed, Ileen was deeply impressed with Astrea.

This time, Ileen was actually the youngest of all the duellists on this stage. That was a little scary but didn’t mean she would go down first. She had been paired up with older students before and in those cases she always had been the target, but this time it looked like they were going for her partner.
Astrea captured all the attention so the younger girl had time to cast her spell without disturbance. Both spells were thrown her way and although she managed to dodge one of them the wind jinx would find its mark.

Ileen hissed in sympathy - she knew how it felt. Now it was her time to help her partner back up!

Nicky watched her spell hit the opposing team's student. That was going to be a good boost for her confidence, especially since the last time she was duelling Slytherins, she lost. And she had a new partner too. But they were doing all right so far, fortunately. It was all going as planned but she knew better than anyone how quickly the odds could change in a duel so she was staying focused on the duel and on her opponents. Nicky wanted victory and she wouldn't settle for anything less than that.

Alan's spell would turn out to be quite powerful, which made it even more of a shame that it would miss its intended target. What a wasted chance to truly impress the audience, or more specifically George, not that he would admit it out loud. Hopefully George had been distracted in that moment and did not see how he had messed up like that. But there was more rounds and Alan refused to lose the first match of the season. "Good job, Nicky!" he cheered on his partner.
