It was a quiet morning. Everyone was already down in the Great Hall, eating breakfast. Well except Maggie. She had been reading all night and fell asleep five minutes before she was supposed to wake up. Her roommates didn't think of waking her up so they just left. At the moment, the girl was sprinting down some stairs on her way to the Great Hall.

Maggie gasped for air with her hands on her knees. When she finally could breathe properly, she peeked in where everyone was sitting. The Great Hall was quite noisy but still cozy. Maggie tried patting her hair down one last time before she entered. She felt a few gazes on her back as she walked. Her eyes found an empty spot on the Ravenclaw table. She walked slowly there with wobbly legs. The spot was big enough to fit 4 people and Maggie took place in the middle. Her hand reached for some eggs and bacon but before she could reach them she heard a voice: “Hey. Could I sit here?”

It had been a long night for Lucy. She loved exploring new places, but there was always the excitement of the first night of a new adventure, the first night in a new place. And now, there were so many new people to meet, so many new things to learn. It made her insecure in a way as well, because would she ever be able to learn everything that they taught her? Would she be able to pick up on the incredibly complicated spells or potions? What if she would make a fool of herself? After all, she now was put in Ravenclaw, there must be high expectations.

When after many dark hours the time had finally come that she could go down to the Great Hall to have breakfast, Lucy packed her bag with books and notebooks. She had no idea which ones she would need today, but maybe she could do some reading to prepare for the first classes. She hoisted the heavy bag on her shoulders and walked down the corridors of the enormous castle.
It took her a while to find the Great Hall. She had no idea how to get to the rest of the classrooms and how to ever find her way at Hogwarts without getting lost, but at least the Great Hall buzzed with the energy of talking students, some of them there for the first time, others with great expectation because they knew what was awaiting them in the coming year. There were definitely people there who would be able to help her find her way, or who would join her to get lost and explore the endless corridors, and to find their way back to the Common Room or to the Great Hall.
As Lucy entered the Great Hall, she looked around for a place to sit. There was the Ravenclaw table, with all of the people who would be her family for the coming time. There were hardly any spots left and she hardly dared to intrude the students who seemed to be familiar with each other already. Finally, she found a spot where there was room for a few more students. Another Ravenclaw girl had just sat down there. Was she feeling just as uncomfortable and insecure as Lucy felt? It didn't look like it, as she was already reaching out for her breakfast of eggs and bacon. But this girl with her black hair and pale skin (was she Asian?) felt like she was a nice person. Perhaps... Before she could even stop herself, Lucy heard herself ask: "Hey. Could I sit here?"

Maggie turned her head to see a girl looking quite uncomfortable. She stared at the white-haired girl in awe. She is so pretty, Maggie thought. "O-oh! Sure." She was a little nervous but patted the spot on her left side, signalizing her to sit down. Maggie reached out for the eggs once again but got disturbed by an owl landing on her plate. She yelped in surprise. The owl reached out its leg for Maggie to take a letter. She opened it and read through it.

It was from her mom. She wrote about how things were at home and asked the girl how she was. Maggie turned the piece of parchment around to write her reply but remembered she didn't have a pen. "Excuse me, do you have a pen I could borrow?" She nervously asked the white-haired girl next to her.
