Della found herself drawing snakes again.

She did usually come to the Great Lake to draw, but she often drew what was around her: the landscape, the castle, the giant squid. But it was too cold for snakes, probably too cold for Della to be out here drawing. But she couldn't stop herself. Her brain had a constant buzz since she had learned the truth about herself.

Only a few weeks ago, a group of boisterous first years had goaded her into opening a secret chamber in the deep, dark recesses of the castle. Only Della could open it because she was a Parselmouth. She had known she could talk to snakes for some time, but she thought it had only been some type of specific manifestation of her magic. During her first year, she learned in class that magic shows up in children in mysterious ways. In fact, she was always half-expecting to be able to talk to another animal. Her dog, Sparky, had not a word to say to her, though.

But now that she had a label to ascribe to the condition, she was able to research it in the library. She hadn't found much, but she didn't particularly like what she did find. Parselmouths turned up pureblood magical families, and they were closely associated with the dark arts and Salazar Slytherin himself. But here Della was: muggleborn, Gryffindor, decidedly not into the dark arts.

She had never met her father. Was this a clue about who he was? She had written a hundred letters to her mother about the subject, but she had thrown out every one. Her mother's reactions to her questions about her father in the past had never been good; she seemed to lack clarity herself on the subject. And Lena Barfield was genuinely surprised upon learning about the magical world and her daughter's place in it. So if Della's father was a wizard, had her mother even known? It would have to be a conversation they had in person, if they had the conversation at all. Della knew that the ramifications of her discovery could be serious for her little family, but she couldn't predict how serious.

And on top of it all, she felt so alone at school. Broom racing was the only thing keeping her afloat. It was hard to concentrate on class—what if Della was primed to be a dark witch? What if some type of dark power in her could activate at any moment? She became more guarded when doing magic. She didn't reach out to any other students or any of the professors. Would they be able to understand what she was going through? Would they understand what she was? Would the perception of her change? She was shy before in conversations with peers, but boy did she have her walls up now.

She had heard rumors that there was a student who was proudly a Parselmouth. They were even so bold to carry a pet snake around with them. They usually turned up at the library, but Della, unfortunately, hadn't run into them. And if she had, she wasn't sure she had the guts to talk to them.

So, all she could do was sit and draw snakes and try not to think about how her world was falling apart.

It was one of those odd days for Cash. One minute, they carried their beloved guitar out from their dorm room to play it during their free time and the next, Hanako Tone called out for them. Asking whether Cash had some time to have a little chat with him. With an exasperated sigh and rolling of their eyes, Cash asked Tone what he wanted politely as they could muster.

Tone then told Cash that there was a girl goes named Della Barfield that Tone suspected was one of them. Meaning this Barfield girl could be a potential Parselmouth and Cash apparently needs to go and search for this Barfield girl. There are three things Cash strongly dislikes. One, is being told what to do.

Two, draw the short straw. Three, Hanako Tone. They don't know how but it seems Tone has a secret way of knowing who is Parsel and who isn't. It was supposed to be T'ien's job since Cash hated telling anyone that they are Parsel. After a lot of coaxing and negotiation between both the Beater and the Duellist, Cash gave in.

It is the faster way to agree on what Tone needs them to do. And it was also a way to get out of his annoying face and voice. Although, Cash reluctantly agree to do Tone's bidding, here they are at the Great Lake looking for a girl that goes by Della Barfield. How the hell am I supposed to know what she looks like? Way to go for making me chase tails, Tone! Cash grumbled internally.

During this cold month and weather, not many people willingly sit in the cold but Cash did not mind a bit. They marched towards their usual spot at the Great Lake which is under the Oak tree and that was where they spotted one lonesome girl. Cash could not make out who they are since her back was turned to Cash.

The green eyes were not in a habit of prying people's business but somehow the blonde girl intrigued Cash. Cash then walked up to the girl slowly with their beloved guitar still attached to their hand. The Cuban descendant then peered down at the book or precisely at the drawing on the paper. Cash hated small talk and it seems to get the girl to open up to them by doing exactly that.

"Many people usually draw what they can see, you know,"Cash stated as their opening line. They internally cringe at how lame their excuse is. "And here you are drawing snakes up and down that paper,"Cash wanted to throw up with how they awkwardly chatted up to the girl. "Very peculiar indeed that drawing of yours,"The Beater continue on with their thick English - Spanish accent.

"I do not mean to pry but is there any reason why you draw snakes?"Cash inquired the other girl. "You do not have to tell me if you do not want to but at least can I join you?"They asked the other girl with a small smile on their lips. "I am Cash, by the way,"The young socialite introduce themselves.

"And you are? Not sure if we meet before"Cash tried to gauge their memory and whether they had met the girl in front of them before or not. Cash then will stand at a respectful distance beside Barfield while waiting patiently for the other girl to allow them to take a seat next to her.

"Many people usually draw what they can see, you know."

The rich voice suddenly coming from behind her made Della shudder with surprise. Turning her head quickly, she saw an older Slytherin student. She vaguely recognized them—they were Quidditch player, a fellow flyer. Della offered a smile, trying to shake off her jumpiness, both for her benefit and for the student standing next to her.

The Slytherin asked about their drawing. Della looked down. She had filled an entire sketchbook with drawings of snakes from different perspectives. She realized they looked like her the talking snake of her childhood, Gus, and that was unsettling. It wasn't something she had been consciously thinking, but here was a visual of her current mindset, laid bare for all to see. She made the move to cover up her sketchbook but quickly rejected the action. They had already seen everything. No use hiding. Plus it seemed the student was just trying to make small talk, which could be a needed distraction from Della's stormy thoughts.

She tried to think of a sane-sounding reply, "Yeah, I do usually draw the grounds or some of the suits of armor around the castle, but I enjoy animals of all kinds, so I was doing a study of snakes. I guess I'm testing my memory since there are no snakes here."

The Slytherin introduced themselves as Cash—yeah that did seem familiar. "I'm Della. And of course, you can sit with me. This is one my favorite spots to sit, but I've noticed it's a lot of other students' too." She scooted over so that Cash would have room to lean up against the tree as well.
