"Ahhhhh.."

Nature was truly a John's best friend... Ever since he was a boy, it was simply the place he could go to unwind, and now? More than ever, it was something that he needed. Compared to the cluttered corridors of Hogwarts, which the child from the countryside was still having difficulties adjusting to, the school grounds were a haven.

Apart from the curriculum, John Swann found that classes were very much the same as at the schoolhouse in England. Take notes, memorize notes, test. No adventure, no discovery, no excitement, it was all just unnecessary pressure passed as necessary life skills, and quite frankly the boy found it ridiculous.

"If only we could just learn from experience, don't you agree?" The boy found himself speaking to a small creature, watching it skitter away from him as he laid in the grass. "Perhaps speaking to animals isn't the best way to fit in here..." Humans were always a much more difficult creature to talk to for John, too many pleasantries and adaptation were required for proper communication, so confiding in animals was simply... Simpler. Still though, being an outcast for strange habits he'd formed wasn't exactly preferable.

Letting out a large sigh, it was finally time to accomplish what he'd set out to do. Get a good evening nap in before attending further classes. For the boy, de-stressing was an important part of his day. Laying in the grass fields just outside of the castle? Was the perfect way to do so. That on top of how nice a day it was, it was practically impossible not to fall asleep. He only had to hope he'd wake up in time for his next lesson...

One of the many things Alaska loved to do was reading outside. It was a chance for her to truly concentrate whilst staying with her friends, which are animals. Back in London, she would go to Hyde park almost everyday after school. It was the one place no one knew where she was. The park included a large lake, a flower meadow, and the best part was that it was at the center of London.

It wasn't a easy transition for Alaska to go through since she arrived at Hogwarts. She still had to get used to being around so many people, and for once having friends that weren't animals. After another average day, she came to a large grassy meadow and settled down along with her books and such. She structured her arms behind her so that it supported her back while she sat in the grass with her knees bent. Her head tilted towards the sky. It looked almost identical to a water colour painting. The way the warm yellow horizon merged towards a calm reddish violet, and then a cool indigo colour. She spotted a few owls flying about near the Owlery and wondered when her mother was going to send her mail. Despite nearing the end of day, the birds were still singing bright as they can be. The soft rhythmic chirping of the crickets also began. The sun was still up, providing the sufficient amount of sunlight for Alaska to read.

Just as she was about to begin, a fairly small creature skidded past her. It was probably just a wild rabbit scurrying back home. She glanced towards the direction the rabbit came from and spotted a boy preparing to lay down. His robes had a dark red trim, concluding that he was a Gryffindor. She'd never met a Gryffindor before. She was about to introduce herself to him until she started picturing the boys who bullied her back in London. She shook her head and decided that not all boys were the same. Some can be nice, right?

She gently laid her book on the grass besides all her other belongings and slowly made her way to the boy. Her heart was pounding, not because it was a boy, but because this was the first time she took the initiative in the process of getting to know someone. Before, it would always be another person approaching her. Nonetheless, she had to do it. She had to break her fear barrier of interactions.

She came about 3 feet away from the Gryffindor boy and kneeled down. He was taking a nap, and it seems that he was quite comfortable in nature. Maybe it would be best if she didn't bother him. Alaska took a look at her watch and jumped for a moment. It was almost time for supper. She hesitated but, decided to wake the boy up. She tapped him lightly on the shoulder a few times.

Time certainly seemed to be passing quickly... Missing supper mattered not to John, he was always a small eater - or perhaps just too distracted by his feelings of wonder to realize that he was hungry. A cool breeze was all the boy needed to drift into a deep sleep, but he'd never expected to be woken so soon.

"Sorry!" A rather scripted response for John, he'd frequently fallen asleep during lessons back in Essex, so when woken by another human being, he just about always expected it to be for the same reason. After coming to his senses, however, he quickly remembered that he was no where near a stuffy classroom. Instead, he saw a figure donned in a black and yellow robe. A Hufflepuff? From what he'd gathered, all of the houses pretty much despised each other. Then again, he wasn't one to pay attention to social norms...

"Hello, was there.. Something you needed? Was I disturbing you at all?" Whether it was in a classroom or not, John always felt bad for falling asleep around other. He was never sure how, but he believed it to be rude, or unsightly in some way. Like if someone coughed toward the table while eating. Upon further inspection, however, the girl seemed undisturbed - just a bit nervous.

Unfortunately, a prolonged stare was all John could manage before... "Wait.. Is this a romantic first encounter?" The sun setting - painting the sky a brilliant pallet of colors, a faint wind blowing the grass, and a pretty girl waking a napping boy in the glades outside a castle. If that wasn't straight out of a storybook...

John's cheeks became red with embarrassment, his lack of experience with people, also meant a lack of experience with girl's... He could only hope she didn't notice.

OOC: Lets not get too romantic lol, afterall they are still just 11 year olds. But they can have crushes lmao.

Alaska took a good look at the boy. He had wavy dirty blond hair. His light skin reflected an orange sunset colour from dusk. Overall, he looked quite...well, Alaska could not place her finger on the word. As she tapped his shoulders, a faint breeze ran by, carrying the fallen leaves towards the Great Lake. He woke up with a shudder and abruptly said "sorry". Why did he apologize to me? Odd. "Hello, was there.. Something you needed? Was I disturbing you at all?" Alaska tilted her head. I was the one that disturbed him, I probably shouldn't have woken him up.
"Umm, hi? I just wanted to let you know that supper is about to begin. You don't want to be seen running in late now, do you?"
Alaska's pounding chest began to relax. A small sense of achievement flooded over her. I finally did my own social interaction, and with a boy too! His cheeks suddenly became quite rosy after he had waken up. Alaska didn't know why, but she found it rather peculiar. Anyways she wasn't about to miss supper because of a boy, so she stood up and started to make her way back towards the castle.
She took a slight look back at the boy, who seemed a bit confused. Cute, that was the word she was looking for.
"Hurry up, would you? Or you're probably going to get scolded by your head of house for skipping a meal!"

"How.. punctual..." It wasn't a surprise that John had been woken from his slumber for being late, there was always some way he was being irresponsible in that regard. Although he still didn't feel hungry, the mention of supper had made him feel a bit peckish. After all, it had been all day since the last time he'd eaten.

"Oh.. I see, well thank you." His feeling of embarrassment from before had faded, and his cheeks returned to their normal complexion. Perhaps the reason he'd blushed was because of his vicinity to the girl, but there was certainly no denying his attraction to her.. Being an adolescent boy, it was difficult not to have crushes on almost every girl he sees. John laid his head back into the grass, taking a deep breath and preparing himself for whatever interaction was to come, but before he even had the opportunity to look back at the girl, she'd already stood up and begin walking toward the castle.

"W-Wait for me!" It's difficult to refuse someone so enthusiastic.. Her actions made it seem as though she practically expected John to follow her, mildly upsetting but... It was about time for the child to start making some friends at this school. Several days had already passed without anything significant happening, so perhaps this was life's way of kicking him in the butt and getting him moving? Hogwarts, after all, was the beginning of something new, something exciting.

"So why help a Gryffindor? Aren't we supposed to be rivals, or something?" John spoke as he caught up to the girl, forgetting his manners and simply going without introducing himself. He really didn't talk to many people outside of his family. And animals...

"So why help a Gryffindor? Aren't we supposed to be rivals, or something?" She heard the boy's voice behind her as he got up and followed her. This stumped her for a moment. Why wouldn't she help a Gryffindor? Isn't Hogwarts supposed to be a home away from home? Of course she would help someone. As the year went by, Alaska has definitely improved her confidence level. Now, she feels quite comfortable interacting with people. She swiveled her head around and replied with a caring but questionable tone: "Of course I'll help a Gryffindor (anyone really). I just don't like to see people getting in trouble". This directed her thoughts toward a troubling memory, however, she managed to quickly shrug it off. "And I still don't quite understand why everyone keeps on talking as if all the houses were enemies. I mean, I don't know much about the other houses but I'm pretty sure we can still be friends right? Even if our houses /were/ rivals."
She continued to tread across the grassy meadow towards the school. The light had just begun to dim, and the saturated warm glow that had just shone now became a mix of orange and purple. Like when you mix two watercolours together. The singing of the birds died down while the sound of crickets chirping steadily grew.
Hogwarts can be a rather peculiar place (not that it already was) full of various different people. Alaska was glad she came to Hogwarts, the school environment had really helped define her and turn her facade into a new her.
"Oh and by the way, my name is Alaska Remillae, from London. Pleasure to meet you."

John somehow never thought that other houses could help each other - this surprise only brought to light how simplistic his view of the school had been... Or perhaps, thinking everyone could be friends was the simplistic view? Was there even a simplistic view? This amount of thought was far too serious for an eleven year old who had just woken up not even five minutes ago, so he decided it best to stop for now and just continue talking to the girl who'd woken him...

"I suppose that makes sense, I just hadn't thought of it that way." He had no choice but to accept defeat on this matter. Competition was always nice, so having a feud with other houses was actually rather appealing for the boy - but thinking you could be friends with them outside of competition? It wasn't a bad idea, perhaps Hufflepuffs had better ideas than other houses gave them credit for.

"I don't mind it too much, but honestly it's just the feeling I've gathered from others. All of our seniors seem to have some weird issue with the rest of the houses, I guess it just rubs off." There really was no reason for the gryffindor to hate his fellow students - unless given a reason to of course - but when those older than you do? Influence is a powerful thing.

"I'm John Swann, Essex. I suppose we got too caught up in conversation to remember our names." John chuckled slightly, it wasn't often he forgot to introduce himself.

Alaska’s mind was racing. On the outside, she tried to keep up a facade of a confident girl. But in reality, she was very nervous. John seems like a very genial person, and Alaska relaxed a little from the thought of that. The two continued to make their way to the great hall. She turned her head to face the boy, there was a nervous smile on her face.

From the conversation they were having, John appears to be very attached to the notion that each house were enemies. They definitely weren’t enemies, by weren’t friends either. The houses are more like friendly rivals. Alaska didn’t really like the reputations each house give each other. She heard people saying that Slytherins were evil, or that Ravenclaws were nerds. Worst of all, all the other houses think Hufflepuff is bland and boring. This upsets her a little. Hufflepuff without a doubt isn’t bland. They were probably the nicest house around.

She was glad that John didn’t have any negative opinions on Hufflepuff. She recalled the small critter dawdling besides John a few minutes ago and curious self urged her to ask a question out of the blue.
“I know this is a weird question to ask, but do you like animals? I saw earlier that they are pretty friendly towards you.”
