Hunter's eyes shifted to notice the young first-year @Jannette Applebottom spectating and cheering on Colin with a board to display her enthusiasm for the boy despite his laughs and body being flamed. So much was going on already, and at this point Hunter considered her presence and loud cheers to be more of a nuisance. His eyes quickly shifted back to the stage as the duelist showed off their flamboyant styles of casting. Hunter was at an angle where he couldn't observe the scarring on Colin's chest. If he had, there'd be a lot of questioning to ensue after this duel. Nonetheless, the boy stood still like a statue, hand beneath his chin as he watched and thought about the choices being made.

Despite his hysterical laughter to that of a hyena, Colin was capable of kicking his feet against the hard ground to dodge the oncoming knockback jinx that David had cast. A few tears of joy (or perhaps pain?) flew from the eyes of the Slytherin boy, landing and drenching the flames that were dieing down on his body. As for David, his accuracy was on point, but it seemed his and Avery's tactics were forcing Colin to be on the defensive. His hat trick wasn't going to surprise anyone this time; however, as a consequence, the valiant Pax Zhang sent out the same knockback jinx at David as perhaps retribution for their teammate. It seemed David's leg was refusing to listen, as he was forced to take the hit to the chest bellowing out the air from his chest. It wasn't enough to knock the strong-willed badger down, but it certainly didn't look pleasant.

Then there was Avery, the boy took an immediate turn towards his team's assortment of potions. They were duel-changing, capable of turning the tide. Hunter was curious as to what Avery would choose, but it came little to no surprise for Hunter when he saw Avery swiftly pick up and down the Fire-Breathing Potion. For a potion to work, an individual has to use all of it. In a matter of two gulps, Avery had drunk the entire potion and already Hunter felt the hair on his skin immediately flare up. Out of everyone, he had allowed the reckless Slytherin boy named Avery Chen to drink an extremely potent and dangerous potion. Hunter should have given a demonstration or requested a Professor to demonstrate how to use it properly. Avery's face was immediately beginning to sweat, no, it was already beginning to stream like a fountain as his face turned pink, no red, no magma in color. A deep shade, and just from the looks it seemed rather unpleasant. "Avery! You need to-" but it was too late. Hunter tried to yell some advice, but Avery opened his mouth at Colin with a blistering roar that echoed through the room. A sharp and powerful blast of flames roared, and Hunter noticed its direction. He got up and dashed, tackling the young Slytherin girl who cheered on Colin. Colin dodged the flames by swiftly going into a push-up formation to duck it and swiftly push himself back up. The problem was the flame had almost hit the young spectator of the duel, and Hunter had to act quickly. Lifting his head, not even asking if she was okay, Hunter took out his wand and began to extinguish the surrounding flames to make sure they wouldn't spread. "Dammit Avery, the honey and mint were supposed to help make it easier to drink but I guess a potion capable of burning off skin is still pretty hard to control," Hunter said annoyed and reverting his head back to the field to see what more of a mess was to occur.

Seeing as Colin was already down and that it’d just be easier to knock him out before dealing with Pax, I took the logical choice and cast the chosen spell, Flipendo, at Colin and Avery seemed to be having have the same idea as he breathed fire in Colin’s direction after consuming the fire-breathing potion. Too bad for us, we didn’t seem to be having the same luck that we had in the first round and I even got hit by a nasty Flipendo from Pax and I was starting to question whether or not I should return the favor to him. Of course, I could also have a second go at Colin to try to get him knocked out, and for a moment, I was stuck, contemplating what I should do. I definitely wasn’t going to pull a piece an imaginary piece of paper out of an imaginary hat this time because I didn’t want to bore everyone else with by the repetition, but then I had an idea to do it just for myself. I quickly conjured an imaginary piece of paper out the air, and read it to myself before making imagining it bursting into flames as it vanished into thin air. And then, I did what the imaginary piece of paper told me to do, and my opponent wasn’t going to like one bit.

He lunged at the vial he had been keeping his eye on ever since the beginning of the duel, uncapped it swiftly, and downed it in no more than two gulps. Opening the stopper was almost enough to make him cough at the spiciness permeating the air, but the Sichuanese boy was used to the smell of fresh-made hot chili oil, a smell that often filled his house with his mom's cooking. However, he definitely underestimated the heat of the potion, almost choking at the liquid as it poured down his throat. Sweat beaded on his forehead. His usually tan complexion turned a deep magenta, and his insides... his insides were literally boiling, as if he were a volcano about to erupt.

The pressure had to find a way to release itself. He turned towards Colin, and breathed out a mighty flame with a gigantic roar he never could've imagined doing. WOW, was this what it was like to be a DRAGON?? He felt strangely powerful, and he was loving it! He hardly even noticed the fact that Colin had dodged his fire-breathing with a deft pushup. "HAHAHAA!" he cackled, flames bursting forth haphazardly with each laugh. "HUNTER, am I a mythical beast or what!" he flashed his teeth in a wide grin, letting out flames willy-nilly in each and every direction possible, almost singeing David and Pax, too, looking very much like a dragon gone mad on a rampage.

A loud cheer for Colin in the stands caught his attention. There was a small Slytherin girl (was she a firstie he had met in the common room?) holding a sign that was way too large. The size of the sign only seemed to reflect her energy for cheering on her friend, and Avery was just an inch envious that he didn't have his own sign in large letters spelling out his name. "Your sign is like, bigger than you!" he laughed in amusement in her direction, the potion amplifying his words into a roar of flames. (But it wasn't like he was much bigger than her, anyhow, small as he was himself.) Whether anyone would even understand him through the flames, he didn't even know. Man, this potion was HOT. His throat was ON FIRE.

Oops. Maybe he shouldn't have been laughing at the girl in the stands. Hunter arrived just in time to save the day, tackling her to the floor. "Dammit Avery, the honey and mint were supposed to help make it easier to drink but I guess a potion capable of burning off skin is still pretty hard to control," the Ravenclaw said. "Honey? Mint? I didn't taste any of that!" he spoke again, then coughed, spewing more flames. He made a mental note not to cover his coughs with his own hand, for fear of burning it too. Wow, great way to spread the flu if he had it.

"FEEL THE POWER!" he roared, laughing quite maniacally. Was this the most epic day in his life or what.

Action: As strategized.

A nicely aimed spell hit David in chest, seeming to wear him down, and Pax grinned to themselves. It seemed Colin hadn't fared too horribly either after his unfortunate luck in the beginning round, managing to dodge the spells aimed at him whilst the flames flickered slowly on his body.

They weren't sure if they were happy that Colin was the sole target of the opposing team's attacks. After all, it was good that at least one of them were at full strength to continue the fight. However, they knew that they likely couldn't fend off the both of them if Colin went down (as much as they'd hate to admit it). Ultimately, it would be best for them if Colin didn't collapse.,

The mad look in Avery's eyes were unnerving. He seemed drunk on the power of his flames, seemingly unaware that he'd completely missed his target and instead nearly hit a poor spectator. In truth, Pax wanted that similar power. It seemed dangerous... incredibly dangerous... but fun.

"Dunno if you knew, Dragon boy, but you missed your target a bit." Pax reminded with a small smirk, not fully letting their guard down. "Now get ready to get screwed up."

"FLIPENDO!"

"OOF!"

Colin dove! The maniacal laughter, fortunately, had masked the worst of the pain for being burnt. It was a weird spell in the first place, to make someone laugh so hard they couldn't do anything but laugh. But laughter felt good! Colin knew he always felt a little jolt of happy --- maybe adrenaline, maybe something else --- when he laughed. He was just glad he didn't have to suffer the fire whilst body bound or something else incapacitating.

He felt the rush of Dave's spell fly overhead as he went down. Good thing! Flipendo can really hit hard, and as much as Colin thought of himself as entirely indestructible, he knew he was hurting this duel. Badly. He wasn't sure how much more he could take, but it probably wasn't much more. His first thought, of course, was for Hunter. He chuckled as the cool stone came into contact with his roasted chest and belly. No, not that Hunter. My Hunter! he thought.

For some reason, Avery and Dave had decided to try divide and conquer. Kill him first, then concentrate on Pax. Colin was, in a way, rather pleased that he'd borne the brunt of their combined ire and had managed to not actually die yet! The dive to the hard floor, Colin soon discovered, saved him from another menace. Namely, Avery Chen.

He heard the roar that must have caused a thousand knights errant to soil their armour. The roar of a dragon. He felt the blossom of fire erupt in his direction. Could hear the roar of hot wind blow above him --- and pass over like an avenging angel! A quick look along the line of fire showed that Avery's gout of flame managed to nearly engulf the spectators!

Fortunately the potion master, Hunter Argentum, was able to leap to the rescue. He watched as his friend Jannette was tackled, watched as she scrabbled around for her spectacles. They were cracked. He heard Hunter --- well, both Hunters --- yelling at Avery. Potions Hunter was on about controlling the fire. His own Hunter was more worried, it seemed, about him. Colin felt angry, though. "Chen!" he cried as he got up, a little more slowly than he would have liked. "What's your problem? You nearly fried Applebottom! You're going down now, pal!"

Colin dodges the Fire-Breath Attack

Facing back to the stage as the four duelists ceased to attack one another, Hunter could only grow a slight scowl at Avery as another breath of fire was shot toward Colin and missed. No one was in the way of the projectile this time, but Hunter still had to extinguish the extra flames that were produced from such a hazardous attack. Besides putting spectators at risk of being hit, Hunter's expression was more for the fact that it seemed Avery was being consumed by the force contained in such a vial. This was potentially the first and last time Hunter was going to let a rambunctious student like Avery take hold and use his potions. Another reason was the fact Avery had missed not one, but two of his shots: "Avery! I swear if you can't control that fire you can get all of your potions from Vale instead of me!" Not a terrible threat in itself, but Hunter knew his distant cousin would probably have Avery eat cockroaches as payment for any potions she brewed.

Hunter didn't exactly want to see anyone get hurt, but he did want to study the effects of the fire, what sort of burns they produced, and how to treat them. The incendio David had previously shot most likely caused first-degree and a few small second-degree burns on Colin, but Hunter was unsure of what sort of burns or treatment would be required by the fire-breathing potion. Based on its intensity though, he could tell it would require more heavy treatment to heal.

After extinguishing the last of the flames, Hunter was hoping the fire-breathing effect would soon end to cause minimal casualties. His eyes lept away from Avery, landing on David Howard who seemed to be rather skilled in his wand movements and incantations. His eyes seemed concentrated as if reading or preparing his next set of actions. With a quick dash, he moved swiftly towards his team's table of two remaining potions. His movements were quick and his focus seemed undeterred so it was hard for Hunter to tell if David had purposefully or even noticed that he dodged another incoming flipendo from Pax Z. Hunter wasn't surprised by the onslaught of flipendo's being cast, it was one of the best duelings spells learned before becoming a second year. This individual seemed to have a burning passion and fire of their own... metaphorically speaking of course, but Hunter took note to keep an eye on Pax.

Now what Hunter was surprised by was the fact it seemed Pax and Colin had yet to use potions as David picked up a glass vial containing a very minuscule amount of liquid but a large amount of purple-blue vapor. Perhaps it was a tactic to save the best items for last. An interesting tactic, but a risky one as Hunter saw it. Right as David picked up the vial, another flipendo coming straight from the wand of Colin McCoire made a direct hit.

Powerful and painful to watch, this flipendo certainly seemed to outmatch the other versions previously cast as David flew off the ground by a couple of feet being knocked back farther from his opponents landing on his back with a large thud. An impressive attack by Colin, but it was merely the catalyst for taking away his team's advantage. The flipendo that sent David flying, also caused the Muffling Draught in his hand to be thrown outward and into the air, heading straight towards Colin and Pax! Perhaps the vial was too small to notice, or perhaps both were amazed by the attack Colin had just pulled off. Hunter on the other hand always noticed everything. His eyes darted at the vial high up in the air and he immediately held his robe across his mouth and decided to leave the front seats near the stage and watch a bit farther back. As if in slow motion, as David was in mid-flight of being knocked back, the glass vial of muffling draught glistened as light shined upon it before making a shattering sound perfectly between Colin and Pax. A large cloud of purple-blue mist enveloped the two, and coughing was only heard for a split second. Just as quickly as the cloud appeared, so did it dissipate. It was easy to tell that any sort of celebration or attempt to scream was futile. As Pax and Colin made gesturing motions that resembled coughing, neither made an actual vocal sound. It was odd as silence enveloped one side of the room and the screech of breathing fire echoed on the other.

The imaginary piece of paper told me to throw the Muffling Draught on my opponents, and I happily obeyed it. After all, I was already down on health and silencing Pax was exactly what I needed at the moment, otherwise he’d hit me with another Flipendo. I realized later that I shouldn’t have listened to the piece of paper. I should’ve just cast a Flipendo on Colin, but it was too late to change my actions. You see, as soon as I grabbed the flask containing the Muffling Draught, I saw out of the corner of my eye the Flipendo coming from Pax. What I did not see, was the Flipendo Colin had cast and as I dodged one spell, I got hit by another. The vial of liquid flew out of my hands as Colin’s spell propelled me into the air before causing me to fall onto my back with a loud thud with my head hitting the ground soon thereafter. I felt a sharp pain soar through my shoulder blades and the back of my head as I lied there, motionless. This was the result of me being an idiot and following the instructions written on the back of an imaginary piece of paper. I just lied there, too lazy to move, cursing internally at myself. We might as well have just lost, and all because of me and my foolish little piece of paper.

As far as I knew, Pax was completely untouched, and Colin wasn’t knocked out yet, something I wished as I lied on the wooden floor wasn’t true. But no matter how much I wished, I knew that that was the reality, and that I couldn’t do anything to change it. As I lied there on the floor, I realized that I wasn’t going to last much longer in the duel before loosing consciousness, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me from trying to get one last spell in. I put my wand into my robe and rolled over before trying to get up. I failed. I tried once again to lift myself up but after I managed to stand up on my knees, I collapsed onto the ground once again. I was in worse shape then I thought I was in as the spell that Colin had cast dealt me much more damage then I initially thought it did. Nevertheless, I attempted to get up for my third time, and this time, I had finally accomplished my task.

So far, Pax had been virtually untouched by anyone. No spells or flame attacks had been aimed their way. Was it because people were scared of them, or were they simply just not important enough to tackle?

Either way, Pax was glad they weren't unconscious on the floor right now. But neither were either of the other team. Least Colin was still standing, despite all that had been thrown at him.

As the flipendo they'd cast flew through the air was easily sidestepped, Pax grinned as Colin's slammed right into David and knocked him cold onto the ground whilst dodging the fiery column that had been sent his way.

"Ha! Take tha-"

A loud guttural cough erupted from their lungs, painful and harsh, as a mist tinted purple-blue enveloped themselves and Colin. Pax turned to Colin with confusion on their face, mouth open to speak.

But nothing, no words were exchanged. It was as if Pax were a goldfish on display for everyone to gawk and laugh at. They glared over at the boy on the ground, eyes narrowed with irritation. Their wand was limp in their hand-it was of no benefit for now.

Eyes darting around the room, in their mind, there seemed to be only one thing they could do. Exchanging a glance with Colin, hoping that the pair of them were connected emotionally enough to be able to understand what was running through the other's mind, Pax prepared for their next move.

Colin didn't pay much attention to the way their Duel Master chastised Avery. Clearly the lad's potions were very strong! If only Avery could stop barbecuing everything and everyone except his intended target! But clearly the power of his housemate's inner dragon had run away with him.

No, Colin's attention was focused on his opponent of choice. Dave Howard. That lad was a duellist and it showed. Some kids might say that Dave was a wand fighter that they themselves would never seek to go up against. But after this morning's one on one club meeting and especially after this duel --- Colin found someone he'd love to try himself against as often as possible!

He watched as his own flipendo slammed into Dave with the force of a bucking erumpent! He considered exulting over the boy, but that would be too much. In any event, Avery shot another wild gout of fire into the air. Colin dodged it, and as he did, he shouted: "Avery! I'm over here! What kind --- erk!"

As the flame dissipated and Colin stood up straight again, he turned towards Pax. Her own scathing retort had similarly withered in her throat! Neither one of them could speak! Obviously, Dave had managed to throw his muffling draught and it had landed and released its effects! Colin's eyes widened as he looked at his demisister and duelling partner as if to say: what are we gonna do? Neither of us can cast!

Colin shrugged with his arms spread wide, his now useless wand still in hand. She glanced at him and he gave her a half grin, revealing a couple of his fangs. She had been able to communicate many things to Colin with her glance.

Colin was quite sure that he and Pax were thinking the same thing at the same time. Even though he knew he was almost finished, he felt a surge of excitement and energy! Colin was entirely determined to see his part of the duel through and he prepared himself for his next move.

Maybe his excitement over spitting fire like a dragon in his favorite fairytales was so enticing that he forgot to actually aim. Then again, his lungs, throat and mouth were burning, and the magenta of his skin wasn't going to subside anytime soon with the heat and intensity of the flames.

"Dunno if you knew, Dragon boy, but you missed your target a bit. Now get ready to get screwed up," Pax said, and Avery pouted as he realized that both of his opponents were scott-free of any flames. Wow, what a bummer. What a waste of perfectly amazing and horrendous power. Twice in a row.

"You guuuys, just stay still, will you??" he teased, as if pleading with them. He had almost made baked applesauce out of the audience, but his true opponents were perfectly unharmed. "I swear, you'll get such a great tan out of this!"

Pax was not kidding about screwing them up. Soon enough, the most powerful Knockback Jinx Avery had ever seen in his life slammed into David, sending his partner onto the floor. "Are you okay?" he reflexively asked his partner, before realizing he shouldn't be talking and spurting any uncontrolled flames at him.

"Avery! I swear if you can't control that fire you can get all of your potions from Vale instead of me!" Hunter had yelled at him, which was well-deserved, even if our boy didn't think so. Get his potions from Vale? What kind of voodoo ritual with dolls would Vale request of him in return? That was enough to rattle him a little. "Okay, okay, let me how you just how good I am at controlling this! Prepare to be amazed, Hunter!"

Purple smoke enveloped Colin and Pax, and Avery realized that his partner had tossed the Muffling Draught. Good thinking! Now, Avery just had to do his bit to contribute to the duel. Hopefully he could finally do something useful and not just stand there like a flaming idiot.

Action: As strategized.
