He had gotten taller but but not much broader over the past few months. Thin and lanky, he stood heads and shoulders over most of his peers, the part giants being the only exception. He was dressed well enough but certainly not to theme. His mop-like dark hair in sore need of a haircut, he was not wearing his glasses and his fitted jacket was buttoned over an otherwise bare torso. While he had a look of steely confidence, the sort one would have when in defiance of a tyrant but there was none to be seen.
At his side was a knockout. A pretty blonde who was not nearly as tall as he. It was obvious as he got to know her why Vladimir was so enamored by her, less her mudblood status and lack of psychic prowess she was attractive and witty. There was this white knight inclination to 'save' her from the bullies and the aggressive parties within both his former and her current house. So it was not a great surprise to those that knew him.
"I'm astonished you are free for the ball," he commented with a bit of stress in his voice as he moved stiffly into the courtyard, his arm crooked as that he could escort her over the pavestone. He had a smile that never met his eyes, they were distracted by something but he was not certain what. He knew what he had to do on this evening and the blood that would ultimately stain his hands. There was job was not yet accomplished and while he screamed for help but it was as if he was downing in a river of bile, his screams barely bubbled on the surface.

For now everything looked fine. Sure it did. Only that in the moment she thought it, 'fine' seemed to become a nightmare.
It started with the feeling of anxiety moments after having bit off a piece of apple pie. Something was wrong. Something... something about the people around her. The Slytherin couldn't quite put her finger on it, but she grew more wary by the second, her fingers that were still holding the pie twitched, wanting to take out her wand.
As Opeila was about to lift the goblet to her mouth to take a sip of whatever this red beverage was, the goblet began to transform in her hand. She paused, her hand hovering in the her eyes trained on the goblet- only that it was no longer a goblet. Instead there sat an eight-legged, hairy creature that now slowly began to crawl up her arm.
Images of blackening veins raced through Opeila's mind, memories of agonized screams, her own and those of her classmates, black, shadowy spiders- wasn't there even a faint smell of smoke in the air?
With a horrified gasp Opeila stumbled backwards, the apple pie slipped through her fingers and into the puddle of red liquid on the floor.
The scream was out before she could hold it back, as she reached up in panic to brush off the spider. While stumbling back Opeila lost her balance, now she tripped over her own feet and fell backwards. Somehow landing in a sitting position against the table with food, her hand found her wand.
Her breath quickened. She pointed her wand at the spider and cast the first spell she could think off. "Flintifors!"

────────────────────────────────────────────────────Well, he could at least hand it to the Scottish school. They knew how to throw a decent party if nothing else. Kolya navigates his way through the throngs of students of various schools to find the courtyard this ball was to be taking place in. Stepping across the cobblestones to gaze about at the decorations the boy did his best to try, and promptly fail, to hold back visible excitement. This was his first time at a dance. Or really, any sort of official event of this size. These were certainly exciting times, and a silent vow was made to make the most of the night.
The myriad of decorations drew his attention from one area to another as he wandered about. Though he's not likely to admit it, the temptation to try and grab one of the golden eggs was almost too great to resist. Just to look closer, though. Absolutely. Kolya found himself softly humming along with the music as he dodged and weaved around various couples and groups that had taken to the open air of the courtyard. Distracted by a fairy passing overhead, a sudden shiver wracks the young Russian that had nothing to do with the slight chill in the air. Twisting a little to look behind, he catches sight of a ghost continuing along on her way as if nothing had happened.
Kolya slows to a halt before a table absolutely stacked with all manner of treats and drinks. He takes a moment to eye the offerings. He only had a vague idea of what most of treats likely were, and as such opted to play it on the safe side and simply scoop up one of the green apples from the bucket to one side. He could always return later once he worked up an appetite. Wiping it off a little on his suit jacket (sorry mom), he turns away from the table and eagerly takes a bite of the fruit. Very satisfying crunch, ten out of ten.
Evidently so focused on his snack, Kolya startles a little when a scream originating from a couple feet away suddenly rings out. Ah. Well, this sounds more like the Hogwarts of the stories he's heard. The apple freezes midair as his gaze whips towards the now prone figure of a girl at least a few years older than himself. The first year follows the line of her extended arm to where her wand is levelled at a sizeable spider on the cobblestones before her. Taking a few steps closer, he drops the apple and reaches the now free hand towards where his wand is tucked into his belt. Simply resting his hand there rather than drawing it, his gaze shifts from the spider to the girl and back again. "Are you...alright?" he hesitantly asks, despite the relatively clear answer before him. His other hand is extended a little across the gap between them in offer of help back to her feet. Kolya keeps a wary eye on the spider in case it tries anything.────────────────────────────────

She had lost track of many she had been but they always typically ended up going one way and the most memorable one was the bug infestation that had swarmed them. Still, she thought, everyone seemed to be getting a good time regardless of what time so Elena had done herself justice and headed down to be greeted by a variety of colors, decorations and Merlin knew what else. The crowd was already thick with people and it was a challenge enough to find your way through this maze of people. The Gryffindor should have expected as much and for once, she had foregone the dress approach. The fifth-year wasn't about to spend her time tripping and stumbling over people's heels and getting an irritated look or two in response, she had not come here to make enemies, quite the opposite actually because the ball did quite an excellent job of garnering unwanted guests from her experience not wanting to recall those memories.
For her part, Elena was dressed an long-sleeved orange and brown formal shirt with a sash tied around her waist complete with checkered pants and some ankle-high shoes and a flower crown that sat on top of her bun that been piled high. For her part, it was a look that would certainly turn some heads as she dodged this way and that muttering a few greetings to some familiar faces that she saw and doding other unforunate faces. She came to a rigid stop spotting Elsian Cox through it all and almost instantly, an eight-legged horror came over the Gryffindor made the conclusion not to take that potential risk. "That's gonna be a hard no for me." She muttered more to herself hastily veering off in a seperate direction hoping to Merlin he hadn't caught sight of as the girl put as many bodies as she could between her and the spider master, there was someone who would take advantage of a public place like this to cause some unrest in her mind and she was in mood to be nearby when that happened which she was sure it would.
In her haste, she accidently brushed past someone perhaps a bit too roughly and turned back in an aplogetic gesture at the girl she had perhaps shouldered aside a bit too rougly. "Sorry!" Elena squeaked out an apology to offer a helping hand deciding it was probably not a good idea to tell the person she had down-trodden she was in the process of trying to get away from someone who had the tendency who make this whole thing go up in blazes, perhaps not literally. "Didn't see you there, it's almost impossible to avoid running into people here, didn't expect it to be so crowded, I guess." The Gryffindor said with a laugh as she anxiously looked the girl over hoping she wasn't about to be the root cause that someone balled up and started crying, that would be the last thing she needed and in a hurry to justify her own assurance because kindness never hurt. "You're alright, right? Maybe I should get glasses or something." She said with an amused smile hoping to inject some humor.

Gideon blended in with the crowd for once. The theme was fairytales and while one would have thought that Gideon of all people would be well versed in such things, he was exclusively familiar with he Grimm tales which all ended in woe. Perhaps the dichotomy of his nature was in truth a singular, intended story.
It was not a stretch to dress as a prince, he just had to add the crown and he actually had several in his possession and relished the opportunity to wear any of them. A great gilded crown rested with great familiarity on his head. He had no specific interest this evening or so he had come to believe but he was playing errand boy for someone. He was not certain who, but the parcel seemed weird enough that he would have fun delivering it.
A small black box tied with white twine. a simple package with an unsealed note. Giddy of course was curious and opened the letter. Nothing interesting but unsigned:
The other being the box that was not wrapped, simply tied closed. He pulled at the bit of off-white twine and pulled the bowknot free. The slack bit of string in his right hand, within there was a silver charm. It was shiny and round, there were these squiggly lines and this tringle with more squiggly lines. There was also a chain, the entire thing was made of silver. Giddeon frowned when he saw the piece, handled it with his sticky little fingers. "Yeah, that's... yeah," he muttered to himself as he looked at who it was addressed to. For the sake of clarity it said Deliver to Opeila Winters. He had no idea who that was, but it mattered little. This was some freaky little game that would give him a wanted diversion after all of this time trapped on the Asian continent. The year has started a bit bumpy one could say, but I guess it's nothing new to us by now.
Be well.
So he would find the one person that would know the answer if he was somewhere at this ball, George Henry. If George was anywhere to be found King Giddy would greet his former tentmate with a smile and the creepy box he had found outside his cabin earlier that day. They had only just arrived and the ball was swiftly upon him with little time to socialize or acclimate. George Henry was his favorite even if he did not scream or cry much, super brave. He wondered when he would snap and what games they would play then. Someday he would be tall like George.
"George. George!" He announced with a childish glee if he found the Hufflepuff among the throng of wizards. "I found a box and I need to give it to someone, an Oh-pay-La," whoever that was. "Boring black box," he complained.

Once I had finished speaking, Daphne began to lead me over to my dancefloor as she said “That sounds great! I can’t wait to talk to you about all the magical creatures there.”. I hoped that either she could make the talk about said magical creatures interesting or that the magical creatures themselves would be interesting. See there weren’t many magical creatures that I actually liked, and many of the ones that I did were given an XXXX or ab XXXXX rating by the Ministry of Magic. That didn’t necessarily mean that they were all dangerous as in the case Erumpent which would only attack if sorely provoked and were relatively harmless otherwise.Daphne - #e54b5e
Dave - #fff79e
Once we had gotten to an area where we could dance freely without bumping into any of the other dancers, Daphne then placed her left hand on my shoulder before saying “This is alright, yes? Unless you wanted to do some sort of breakdancing.”. I chuckled at her joke before taking her other hand and saying “Yes, this is alright.” I then placed my right hand on her shoulder blade and we started waltzing. A little bit into the dance, I said “It’s funny how you mentioned breakdancing because it’s not like you’d actually want to breakdance in the gown that you’re wearing. I mean, I can only imagine how uncomfortable that would be. And I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want to attract too much attention to myself so I wouldn’t start breakdancing at all, even if I was comfortable doing so in my current attire.” After we had danced for a good few minutes before stopping after spinning Daphne one last time. As we walked away from the dance floor, I said “So, how would you like to go to the petting zoo down there?”.

Stephen made his way to the food table just in time to see his former tent mate, Bubba McGarry, get hit in the head not once, but twice, by the largest flower bouquet in history. The thing looked like it came from the land of the giants. Maybe it did. Maybe it was part of the Jack and the Beanstalk faerie tale. Either way, it was fast losing its floral opulence with each hit to Bubba's head.
Just as he was about to approach Bubba, he saw a white haired fellow approach him, so Stephen hesitated for a moment so as not to intrude or interrupt the two. He instead let his eyes wander over the delicious foods spread out over the tables. The sweets looked tempting, but he was more interested in something a little more hearty in the moment so he picked up a bowl and and ladled some -he wasn't quite sure - Irish stew, perhaps into his bowl. It was hot and smelled delicious. He moved off to the side out of anyone's way and watched the goings on, always keeping an eye peeled for either Kamila or EmmaLee. It was beginning to become just a little dispiriting at this point having absolutely no friendly face to speak to, and he was beginning to question the reason for attending such events in the first place. His last Ball was a complete dud and this one was faring no better.
Deciding it was ridiculous to sit off to the side like some shrinking violet, he took his last spoonful of the stew and set his bowl down on a take away tray. Wiping his mouth off he decided to barge in on Bubba's conversation anyway. Knowing Bubba, if it was an unwelcome intrusion, he would have no compunction telling Stephen to pack sand.
"Pardon my intrusion, but you look like someone I knew over the summer," and Stephen laughed while holding out his hand. "How are you doing, Bubba? You look quite dapper this evening? Waiting on your date? And speaking of, you have not seen EmmaLee by chance, have you?" Then looking over at the other boy, Stephen smiled broadly and introduced himself but did not offer his hand. He had discovered that many of the students here found that to be an unappealing approach, so he kept it to himself.
"Apologies for interrupting. I just wanted to catch Bubba for a hello before he was spirited off. Hello, by the way. My name is Stephen Schwartz, Ilvermorny, in case it wasn't obvious."

A look of concession crossed his face while he placed down the plate and fork he was holding. As much as he wanted to feast on another slice, he knew that it would taste nowhere near the first one. Good food were meant to be eaten in moderation. Instead, he picked up a cup of green tea. He would usually avoid drinking tea in the evening as the caffeine would keep him awake, but the ball was so taxing (in the socialization aspect, the atmosphere alone was enough to tire him) that it probably wouldn't matter once his head connected with the soft, fluffy pillow on his bed.
“Absolutely!” He replied in agreement to Irina, taking a sip of his tea. “The food is amazing, and the whole ball is just breathtaking. I cant even begin to imagine how much work was put into this.” Though with the use of magic, the preparations were probably sped up a whole lot, he thought.
Then Irina asked if he was waiting for his partner after she confirmed she didn't have one. "Oh! N-no! I came here for the food, too," He laughed sheepishly.
"Do you um– if you want to find friends, maybe uh, m-maybe we could be... friends? And uh, explore the ball together? And only if you want to of course! Because I’d totallyunderstandifyouprefertobealone….” He quickly took a sip of tea to stop himself from further embarrassing himself once he noticed that he was essentially rambling. The mask gave him the courage to invite, but not the courage to not stumble over his own words. He wondered when he would he able to converse without getting nervous.

This was getting quite silly at this point really. As Bubba stood there, one arm still holding the doll waiting for the girl to collect it. The other still in the process of shaking Levin's hand, he could've sworn another person had just apparated in if he hadn't read in Hogwarts: A History that it was impossible. Still, at least it was someone he knew now. Stephen Schwartz stood before him, a kindhearted Ilvermorney student who Bubba had shared a tent with at camp this year. He was looking very formal. He would've looked like a redcoat if his coat had been the right color. He had half a mind to ask if an officer's saber came with that but he figured that might be a bit rude so he stopped himself.
He smiled broadly as Stephen offered his hand and finished shaking Levin's moving on to shake Stephen's. it took a little bit of contortion as he was still holding the bloody doll out for the girl to take. "Stephen!" He said jovially, "Great to see you man!" At the mention of his date he did another quick double take to see if Sam had arrived but didn't linger this time, shifting his focus back to Stephen, "Your assumption is correct, I am indeed waiting, I'm sure she'll be along any time now." He smiled at the remark about looking dapper, "Thanks, you're looking quite good yourself! Get yourself an officer's sword you could probably use that for war reenactments on the weekends." He said with a rogueish wink, he couldn't help himself. "I have not seen EmmaLee but that doesn't mean she's not here, place is packed."

George alternated between clinging to @Alan Vanes' arm and keeping a healthy distance from him as he orbited around the courtyard, keeping an eye out for all of those he recognized. He saw what could have been Alec, but he couldn't get a good look at the boy's face - and it was a mercy he didn't, as the boy would have flown off the handle if he could see the state of his lips now. The hunt for his favorite duckling, Jake, had been a wash for now. The fourth-year expected that if he were here, he would have wandered off to the petting zoo by now, so he stepped away from Alan and headed in that direction - only to be intercepted by a rather unexpected party guest.
"Gideon?" George said, his immaculately full brow shooting up in surprise with such force that some glitter shook off from his eyelashes. Completely blind to the fact that this was the ugliest duckling of all on the inside, he couldn't help but dote on his substitute brother-figure when he saw just how well he had dressed up. He even had a very real looking crown!
"Oh, Gideon! You look so cute!" the boy squealed with delight, reaching out to pinch the younger boy's cheek. Wizard kids knew how to dress up fancy, not like the unfortunate incident in first-year when Jake decided to attend the masquerade in a pumpkin costume. Not that George had outdone him by much, but he at least had not been dressed in a costume for children. Normally he would have derided a costume as cliche as that, but on Gideon, it could be forgiven. "Look at your little crown! Oh, that's so nice!"
Glancing down to the boy's hand, his eyebrows furrowed, the crease of his forehead making the layers of caked-on makeup even more conspicuous. (Not that purple glitter ever stood a chance of going unnoticed.) "You... you found a box?" He was not suspicious of Gideon, of course, only concerned. What if the poor boy got into something too big for him, like had happened when Jack went out digging? He could be in danger. "How come you've got to give it to... O-Pay- oh! Opeila. I swore I saw her, somewhere..."
Maybe Alan was keeping up with him, or maybe not - George tended to wander quickly if he was left unattended, and there were plenty of distractions at the ball. Either way, he would put his hand on Gideon's shoulder and start to guide him toward where he'd thought he saw @Opeila Winters.
It was quite easy - simply follow the scream. Using his superior height, George lorded over the legions of less-than-five-foot pipsqueaks and guided Gideon toward Ms. Winters - though he was unable to see what she was screaming over. A bug, or something? "Opeila? There's... a box for you?"
