Dancing in the Shadows
────────────────────A cold autumn morning, the cold that sank down to your bones, was the type of morning it was when Sienna decided to head up to the owlery. In her hand she gripped a letter soon to be sent off to her mother and brother back home in Ireland. Coming into the circular room, she stepped on the skeleton of a mouse or some other rodent and cringed internally. She was not the type to be frightened by such things, but it was repulsive all the same.

A large barn owl flew down to perch beside her. Wasting no more time than needed, she tied the letter carefully onto the leg of the bird. Sienna watched as it flew off with her letter, disappearing farther and farther into the distance with every passing moment. Once it was out of her sight, she leaned against the windowsill and watched the sun as it rose, painting the sky with an array of beautiful oranges, pinks, purples, and every color in between.
All of a sudden, Sienna realized exactly how much she missed her home. It turned from a moment of relishing in the beauty of nature to one of wondering why she had come back to Hogwarts, which was common with Sienna. That's all she thought of practically her entire first year. She had told herself she would come back to Hogwarts this year because it was able to teach her how to use her magic properly and teach her spells and such, and she had made one or two friends that she wished to see again.
However, when she returned, she quickly found out that one of said friends would not be returning to Hogwarts. She wasn't sure if she would ever see him again seeing as they lived in different countries and the first time they had met had been a stroke of luck. She had been there when he had needed her, and he had been there when she needed him, but now everything had changed. Sienna hated change with the very depths of her soul. Why couldn't everything just stay the same, perfect and unchanging for eternity?────────────────────STA: 8 | EVA- 8 | STR- 1 | WIS- 5 | ARC- 4 | ACC- 9────────────────────

Dancing in the Shadows
A cold morning is the perfect excuse to stay mobile, thus warm, especially while most wouldn't be doing the same. The wiry girl, average with wild and long scarlet hair, bounds up stairs as is her custom now. Too, she visits the owlery almost weekly with a rack of rodents tied by their tails. Lack of bite marks expresses her proficiency in the strange hobby. She rather enjoys spending time amongst the wizened, magical feather-folk each with personalities, some rather peculiar.
Despite expectations, the outgoing girl didn't make a lot friends her first year, and some of those few were missing now, most unfortunately, favored among them. She sends letters out with decreasing consistency for lack of correspondence. Even so, she still writes to Nan and Daideo and won't transfer disappointments to the messengers.
Green eyes wide, she bursts into the tower room in a whorl of school robes proudly displaying the Hufflepuff crest tasseled by stylized braids ending in colorful feathers and little claws. The first dinner guest to get its pick is the first she'd made contact with the year previous, a midge of a nyctophile. The bedraggled critter flits to land on her forearm inducing a flinch before carrying its catch off. The rack is preened clean shortly thereafter. Though deficient in supply, she'd offended enough of the crowd her first time around to make up the difference.
It's then after the commotion that something about the room feels off from her usual trips. Emerald eyes draw almost instantly to the girl staring broodingly through the window. There's no surprise for Skraele at missing such a detail, for she did so often especially focused on something so important.
Her typical eagerness to meet someone new is curbed by feelings askew. Maybe the other student wants to be alone, but when has that ever stopped the curious badger? Instincts told her the best thing to do would be to leave, but, really, what's the worst that can happen? Normally, she would have crossed the distance without remembering having done so. Here, it took effort that made her queasy to slide across the room and not give in to becoming distracted by flittering owls.
Her accent, worse than last year, comes through particularly bad when nervous, a rather rare occurence. "Hey... there, what's up? Waitin' on letter or somethin' interestin' oot there?"

Dancing in the Shadows
────────────────────Sienna was most certainly caught up in her thoughts, but that was not to say that she did not have her wits about her. In fact, it was quite the opposite. She could hear the footsteps as they came up the stairs and stopped at the entrance to the room she herself stood in. Her focus was not deterred from the window in which she stared out of longingly, but she was all ears for what the person standing behind her might say.

She heard the reluctant footsteps of the other person as they crossed the distance between them and her. The person, who Sienna found out to be a girl around her own age, asked a question in a nervous tone. It made Sienna grin internally to hear the other girl's obvious worry. She had always had that effect on others. She made it clear she abhorred being around others, but this feeling was a little something more than simple anxiety. It was another thing altogether, a sense that something was not right about Sienna and that feeling usually did a pretty good job of keeping people away from her. If it failed, the Gryffindor's sarcasm and icy words were sure to do the trick.
Turning to the girl with a forced, and obviously fake, smile she replied. "No, I am not waiting on any letter or 'anything interesting' as you so cleverly put it. I am simply enjoying the morning. Now tell me, what is so wrong about that?" Her words were cold, snappy, and conveyed the obvious: that she wanted more than anything to be left alone at the moment. There was no way that her message would be overlooked by even the most dimwitted of people. Surely between her cruel words and her simple presence the curiosity of the other girl would be overturned and she would naturally flee the scene.────────────────────STA: 8 | EVA- 8 | STR- 1 | WIS- 5 | ARC- 4 | ACC- 9────────────────────

Ginger brows rise in curious contemplation while a teal fingernail taps thoughtfully at jaw and chin. What a strange question, and it sounded rather rude, almost challenging. Skraele loves a challenge, and, even did she not, she is not breaking the vow to herself to not back down from any reasonable challenge, and some unreasonable ones.
A smile spreads her lips, almost mockingly mirroring the others but with some humour. Despite hair standing on end as if someone just walked over her grave, she walks over to the window and leans against it. She exaggerates glancing around both sides as far as one can see. "Oh... nothing. If ya like grey. Ya'll miss breakfast if you're waitin' for the sun ta come up, might be worth it though."
Skraele turns toward the Gryffindor and dons curious amusement. Bright green eyes meet almost pale ones, the connection taking some effort to maintain. "If I'd known, would'a brought some with me. I'm Skraele, b'the way. Don't think I've seen ya 'round." Shaking hands seems far too awkward so instead she... opts for a cheeky pose, crossing a boldly yellow painted cheek with peace fingers, turning toes inward, and winking on the opposite side. The whole affair amplified by slightly curled but frizzy and disoriented hair. Cheesier than a handshake would be awkward, the motion nonetheless makes her feel better.
The redhead rather revels in putting people on the spot with odd gestures and such. Hers is a variation a friend practices, though theirs more crude. Doing something abnormal usually does a good job of gauging someone quickly while letting them know what they're in for with this one. Now, maybe the other girl would be freaked out enough to flee the scene. If she doesn't, then there's potential there for sure. She's already planning her next ostentatious move if she can't get a reaction.

The girl crossed the room slowly and exaggeratedly, making an obvious show of it. After which she had the audacity to poke fun at Sienna's words. "Grey suits me perfectly well. And I don't see any reason you have to be concerned about whether I attend breakfast or not. Certainly it's none of your business." It was excruciatingly irritating for her that this girl shows up, and even after a clear warning, she still continued to show sarcasm towards the Gryffindor.
As she turned towards Sienna, Sienna could tell that she was uneasy looking directly at her, and this suited her just fine. The girl took the awkward moment to introduce herself, rather than simply turn around and leave the way she had come. Scowling, Sienna supposed a small introduction wouldn't make matters worse. Skraele, as she had announced herself as, seemed like she wouldn't be leaving anytime soon anyways. "Sienna," she replied simply.
"I can't imagine why," she said, rolling her eyes as she did so. The other girl struck an odd looking sort of pose, but Sienna only raised an eyebrow in response. It was no wonder Skraele hadn't seen her around before. She made it a habit to steer clear of overly bubby, extroverted people such as the girl before her now. I mean, just look at the pose she was currently in. Sienna continued to eye the girl coldly, waiting for her to come out of the odd pose and leave. She certainly would not be the first to flee the scene.───────────────────────────────────────────

Biting the corner of her lip to poorly suppress a grin, the redhead nods with tangle of hair flopping. "Yes, it does, and nothin' wrong with that. Limits you to joggers though." She laughs with a brief stick of her tongue. "Sienna though, is a pretty color regardless of preferences. Lucky name!" Her tone is earnest and blunt. No one that knew her would assume otherwise."Grey suits me perfectly well. And I don't see any reason you have to be concerned about whether I attend breakfast or not. Certainly it's none of your business."
Skraele finally morphed to something approaching normal over time and glances up with a squint thoughtfully. "Oh, that's ok. Last year was insane. Everythin' makes more sense now, and's less overwhelmin'. Eas'r ta stop and enjoy the sunrise." She leans a hip against wall with arm lain on the sill. The cold raises her skin but isn't unpleasant."I can't imagine why,"
If this is to be a contest of wills, a stalemate is best either can hope. She is already wedged in. The real challenge now will be finding a way to win the steely girl over. Calling this a charity case is uncharitable, but the girl, Sienna rather, probably has few friends with her winning attitude. One more won't hurt either way.
Skraele adopts a casual smile, glances around, then back to Sienna. Unable to reconcile the foreign sensation, she isn't usually nervous around new people. A finger taps a slow cadence on the window. "Sooo, anyway, are ya... missin' home? Thinkin' about it? That's usually what happens up here. Well, ta me anyway. I assume every'ne else does the same." She winces a little; assuming is a bad habit.

Skraele was proving to be more and more annoying as each second passed. Sienna rolled her eyes as she commented on the last thing Sienna had said. Not everything needed a reply to it. Some things were better left alone, like Sienna herself for instance. The sooner Skraele learned that lesson, the better off things would be for everyone.
When she complimented her on her name, she made no move to thank the other girl or even acknowledge hearing the words. Turning back away from the nosy Hufflepuff, she returned her gaze back out of the window in the owlery. Simply ignoring someone was sometimes the better option than giving them the attention they so craved from others.
Easier to stop and enjoy the sunrise? "Well then I would go find somewhere else to enjoy this sunrise. You don't want to be around me any longer than you have to, now do you?" Sienna said all this without once turning away from the window. "I don't see how that's any of your business either. I came up here to send a letter, which is the true purpose of this place anyway. If one must miss home and cry over it, they should at least go somewhere proper to do so, not where people come and go frequently for practical purposes."
Hoping that the unfeeling words combined with Skraele's obvious feeling of unease currently scared the girl off quickly, Sienna continued staring out the window, just waiting for the moment in which the girl would turn and leave. She had intuition that Skraele would decide that the conversation was for nothing and would get her nowhere and with a little luck, she would leave and never encounter Sienna again.───────────────────────────────────────────
