Flood

"I wish I had an extendable-ear thing too," Kody responded to James' joke, watching Yuki go to the lunch lady and looking like she was going to explode with words he didn't want to hear. James made his light disappear and then appear, and then disappear again. 

"Nox!" Kody said, the light that was emitting from his wand didn't go out. "AAAAAAH!!" Kody was ready to throw his wand out a window. He turned to James, replying to his question, "The next spell, though after I figure out how to diminish this light at least... Should be something a bit harder so we can give ourselves a challenge even though we basically did before." Kody tapped his chin with his free hand and suggested, "How about Wingardium Leviosa?" 

Kody placed his quill directly in front of him after he got the light to finally fade. He flipped to the page in his Book of Spells, with his free hand, that contained the spell, Wingardium Leviosa. "Okay, this spell will basically levitate an object. I remember flipping through pages when I first got this book." he paused. "So, shall we give it a try?" Kody turned to James and grinned eagerly. 

Skimming through the pages of his own spell book, James agreed with Kody on their next spell. He turned to the page containing wingardium leviosa, and glanced at the hand gestures in the book. James nodded, saying, "Alright, let's give it a try!" James said, preparing for failure. James placed the quill in-between him and the spell book, and prepare to preform the hand gestures while saying the incantation. He held his wand quite loosely, but had a firm grasp nonetheless, and felt the wand would not fall out of his hand. He did a curve-like gesture with his hands and wand, swooping in sort of a u shape. Then, he flicked the wand in the middle. Then, once he got the wand movement down, he started to say the incantation.

"Wingardium leviosa," James said, confident in his ability to preform this spell. However, like he thought, he could not preform the spell. He got a little annoyed, but wasn't completely engulfed in anger. This time, he tightened the grip on his wand. He preformed the U-like shape and the flick in the center, all while saying the incantation, "wingardium leviosa." However, he still failed. He repeated this process for about three times, but all ended in him failing to do the spell. He thought that maybe spell casting just wasn't his specialty, but he couldn't accept that. His face grew red with anger, and become enraged, yet still calm. For one last time, he did the proper hand gestures and said, "wingardium leviosa." focused only on his wand and the quill, trying to stay calm through the process. A second or two went by with no levitation, but then, the quill was raised from the table with no force from any other person.

It stayed like this for three seconds, before floating back down to the hard, wooden surface of the table that him and Kody laid their spell books on. The quill floated exactly in-between the two pages of his spell book, in the middle portion that transitions one page to another. He was so happy, he almost had tears in his eyes, tears filled with joy and happiness. He nudged Kody to preform the spell, eager to see his skill at preforming such spells. "Go on, do the spell."  James said, trying to encourage his new friend to preform the spell just like he had done only moments before.

Alexandra shook her head after being in a daze for about five minutes. She shook her head left to right violently until she felt she was back into reality. She noticed the boy, Kody and James were practicing spells. They were trying, Wingardium Leviosa. Alexandra remembered trying that spell on a feather she randomly found. "Hey, can I join?" she asked them, though, regardless of what they'd say, she'd still do it. 

Alexandra set her journal and quill down. She shifted her plate, books, and journal to the side. Alexandra set her quill in front of her. She opened the page that contained information on the spell, Wingardium Leviosa. The page had the information to make a u-shaped motion with your wand and flick downwards. She shook her hand back and forth for five seconds to loosen her hand up. Alexandra picked up her 29.2-centimeter chestnut wood and dragon heartstring wand. "Wingardium Leviosa!" she made a u-shape with her wand and flicked her wand straight down. The quill started to float, she lifted her wand slightly, and the quill rose higher. 

Alexandra practiced this spell multiple times, so she had a good grasp on it. She let the quill fall on its own before placing on top of her journals. 

Kody observed the hand motion James used to get his quill to float. "Go on, do the spell." James encouraged him. Kody lifted his 28,4-centimeter wand, and asked, "So... you make a u-shape and then flick the wand downward? Man, you guys make it look so darn easy..." he asked after observing what James and Alexandra did with their wrists. He copied their hand motion with the wand in his right hand to verify if he was correct. 

Kody glanced at the page that contained the spell, Wingardium Leviosa, in his, Book of Spells. He loosened his grip on his wand to get a good 'feel' for it. He tried not to loosen his grip too much in case he were to unintentionally drop the wand and somehow break it. "Wingardium Leviosa!" he put a good amount passion into his words while reciting them. Kody saw the quill lift slightly but immediately plop back down after a second, onto his Book of Spells. "Wingardium Leviosa!" he tried again with more passion and force. The quill levitated about an inch for two seconds until it fell back down. If he succeeded in any form of magic, it was good enough for him. Kody smiled, closing his red and hazel eyes, "Well, that's good enough for me, haha!" 

Following James' success in preforming wingardium leviosa, Alexandra had asked to practice the spells with them. "Yeah, you can join." James replied, placing his quill back into the proper position, which was in between him and his book. From the look of her preforming the spell, she seemed more skilled then either James or Kody. The spell, despite being quite simple, James couldn't preform until about his fifth try. However, Alexandra, who despite being in the same year as them, preformed the spell with excellence and near perfection on her first try. Or, at least, they first time they'd seen her preform the spell.

James, who despite preforming the spell, still had doubts and worries about his magical ability. He wasn't too well rounded in spell casting, and had never even seen a magical creature, even though he would constantly read about them over the summer. He was quite clueless about the magical world, but had some confidence in thinking that he at least could preform some spells. James took note about how Alexandra was preforming the spell, jotting down techniques and movements she did. He was fascinated by people's ability to preform spells so quickly and with barely any practice, though, for Alexandra, he thought that she had perhaps preformed wingardium leviosa prior to their encounter. James decided to continue preforming the spell, saying "wingardium leviosa" and preforming the u-like gesture and flick downwards. He had preformed the spell properly about 8/10 of time, which he was satisfied with.

James saw as one of his friends, Kody, had also preformed the spell. He gave a slight applause before returning back to his normal position in his seat. All three of them preformed the spell properly, something that made him feel as though they could do anything. He couldn't wait to tell his brother and parents about all the stuff he did at Hogwarts. "Congratulations." James said, celebrating the fact that all three of the preformed the spell.

James looked to the north, gazing at the professors table that had watched over the other houses. He had remembered a very specific encounter with one of the professors, though he did not know his name. He gave a slight tap on Alexandra's shoulder, who to James' memory appeared to be mesmerized by the teacher. "So, who was that professor from earlier?" James asked, placing his quill and wand onto the surface of the raven claw's table.

Yuki returned after feeding Kiyo. She saw that James and Kody, from what she has heard, she belives that is his name, practicing a spell called 'Wingardium Leviosa', they looked like they were having lots of fun.Yuki also saw that Alexandra had finally woken up from her spacing out moment, and joined in the fun with the boys. She decided to join in to.

Yuki walked over to the table and grabbed out her 25.1 centimeters, cherry wood and dragon heartstring wand and her spell book. She read over the steps very carefully. Yuki then made a 'U' in the air with her wand and lowered it straight down pointing at my quill and said, "Wingardium Leviosa!". Of course nothing happened, as always, but Yuki wasn't a quitter.She made a 'U' shape in the air again with her wand and lowered it straight down again and pointed it straight at her quill, "Wigardium Leviosa!", her wand shot a thin yellow kind of magic string at her quill, and it reacted in 0.57 seconds by lifting into the air.

Although, Yuki thought that she may have accidently over did it, because her quill almost reached the ceiling of the hall! Oh frick, she said to herself and slowly gestured her wand bit, by bit, down. It took about 2 minutes before her quill landed safely back on the table.

(This was her first time doing 'Wigardium Leviosa' so of course she took forever getting her quill back down from the ceiling).

Yuki decided that she was going to do even more magic, she wanted to try a harder spell, so there she went skimming through each page of her Spell Book.

Alexandra felt a slight tap on her shoulder. "So, who was the professor from earlier?" James asked while setting his quill on the table. "The professor who was here earlier, Solomon Lear. He's the Professor of Care of Magical Creatures and is the head of Hufflepuff. He is a prodigy!" She shifted herself to the direction of where the professors were sitting. Alexandra pointed to a professor in leather armor. "That's Solomon Lear," she pointed to another professor with blond hair, bright green eyes and circular glasses. "and that's Colin Anderson, the head of Ravenclaw..." her voice trailed off.

Alexandra knew so much about Hogwarts due to her blood status and parents being wizards and witches. She was exposed to the wondrous world of magic at an early age. She heard her parents history about Hogwarts and who most of the professors were. Alexandra did her own research as well, mainly reading books about the history of Hogwarts and its professors. Alexandra likes to do research on something before she'd actually do it. She did learn magic at an early age as well, her parents would encourage her to study. When she got her invitation to Hogwarts they were balling their eyes out. 

"Well, I mainly know these things because of," she tapped her book, Hogwarts, a History. Alexandra noticed Yuki was back, "Pfft... Yuki, you overdid it. Again."

"Simon Lear... so he's the professor of the care of magical creatures class..." James said, focusing his eyes on the professors table, watching as each of the individual professors converse with one and another. Being muggle born meant he wasn't properly introduced to the wizarding world like the others. He didn't get time to learn about it, instead, he simply just got a letter saying the a magic community full of mystical creatures and spells existed. James thought about the professor's class, and asked, "speaking of which, when exactly does that class start?" James asked, curious because he really wanted to learn more about the mystical beasts in the wizarding world. He remembered back to the countless nights he would spending engrossed in the textbook, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The closet he'd ever been to a class about animals was some field trips to a petting zoo, which wasn't much compared to Hogwarts. 

When mentioning the head of ravenclaw, James spotted him out by a simple point of Alexandra's finger. It was odd though, most of the professors wore cloaks or suits, but Simon Lear wore armor, an odd choice. But with eccentric schools come eccentric people, even if it is the professors themselves. Alexander tapped her finger on an odd book he had never read, had in his possession, of course, but never read. Hogwarts: A History. He felt as though he wanted to experience Hogwarts from his own perspective, so didn't read the book as he wanted to learn about the school as he progressed through it. "Oh, I haven't read that one yet." James said as Alexandra showed how she knew so much about Hogwarts. 

Yuki had also just walked into the room, a pleasant surprise considering that she had been gone to do something. "Where'd you go?" asked James, curious as to what Yuki was doing that made her feel obligated to leave the hall. It was none of his business, but James could be very nosy when he wants to be. He saw as Yuki preformed the spell he, Kody, and Alexandra were trying: Wingardium leviosa. However, unlike James, Yuki had the opposite problem. Unlike James, who's feather, or rather, quill, didn't levitate high enough, Yuki's float too high. He could hear Alexandra comment on the Yuki's performance with the spell, but couldn't exactly make out the words being spoken. "How?" James commented, wondering how Yuki's quill got so high, when James' could barely get off the ground.

Kody watched Yuki’s quill climb higher and higher into the air until the spell wore off and it tumbled towards the long wooden tables. Kody looked at Yuki wide-eyed, he heard Alexandra make a comment, but he couldn’t catch what she said. “Yuki, how did you-?” Kody asked in awe, watching the quill fall and glide to the ground. “How did you get it so high?”

Well, since Yuki is a half-blood, or maybe even a pure-blood, he wasn’t really surprised she caught on so easily. Blood status makes a huge difference in the wizarding world it appears. But he was still curious about how she could overdo it so easily and get it to almost the top of the ceiling. When he and James could only get their quills one inch off the ground for only mere seconds. 

It took Yuki almost two solid minutes, yes he was counting, to get her quill back onto the table without gliding back and forth all over the hall. Kody heard James ask, “How?” Once Yuki was able to get her quill back down to the table safely. “How? Is a really good question!” Kody added looking at Yuki with wide red and hazel eyes. 

Yuki heard James and Kody asking her how she got her quill so high. "Well, you see my family have always had one certain spell that they can overdo. It's a bad habit that has gone down for years.

My mom can overdo 'Expelliarmus', instead of just making the person's wand or whatever just fly out, she paralyzes the foe for about 10 to 15 seconds." Yuki replied to James and Kody, a little embarrassed. "Then my dad can overdo 'Finestra', instead of just breaking glass he melts it using the spell instead for some weird reason. And my brother, used to overdo 'Stupefy', instead of just knocking out the enemy, he sends the enemy to the nearest forest, and always in the middle of it. Hehe, and I guess my overdo spell is gonna be 'Wingardium Leviosa'." Yuki finished her very long explanation.

Then an owl swooped down in front of Yuki. It had a tan envelope in its mouth. Yuki gentle took the envelope that the owl was holding. She opened it up and read it out loud.

Dear Yuki,
We forgive you for not sending us a letter on your first day of school. Just please remember to send us at least one a month, ok?
