A young boy, wearing Gryffindor robes, was walking around the large library that the Wizarding School had. He was a first year, and he was exploring the very large grounds of Hogwarts. Who wouldn't? And, it was a good way to get exercise before he started a sport. Maybe he won't even start one, who knows? Wizard sports were very dangerous and super scary, and he was afraid he would be terrible at it due to the fact that he is a muggle. Or.. was? He didn't really know that whole thing with muggles.

Jay Divus, the Hispanic first year, finally sat down. The genre of the book he chose was a Fantasy book. It was quite different from the books he read back at home, with witches and wizards, because those things are real now. He didn't really know what was real or fake now, and he wasn't sure if he would understand it if it was told to him.

He moves the book to the side and puts his head on the table. School was stressful, and he felt so clueless. Everyone seemed to know who everyone was and was all so relaxed at the concept of magic. A sigh escaped from the boy's lips as he closed his eyes. Homework was so stressful, and he still didn't make any friends. Maybe a nap will fix that, but that was highly unlikely. Knowing him, he would probably go back to the dorms and somehow make a friend.

Sirin found herself aimlessly wandering around the library. Book in her hand, she scanned the area. Every student there had a different story to tell: some were studying, and others simply reading for personal enjoyment. Sirin stared and wondered: what was their life like on paper? If Sirin could write a story of her life, the pages would be endless. In her hand was the book "Hogwarts: A History." A book of the magical school's history would make for a thrilling tale. What better way to start the school year than to enjoy some rich literature about the very school grounds that she stood on.

As Sirin continued her journey as a wandering vagrant around the premises of the library, she silently contemplated her charms homework. She vividly remembered the professor's astounding demonstration--watching the little figure dance was both amusing and relaxing to a certain extent. To be able to practice magic was far more pleasing to Sirin than that plain old English homework she got all the time in muggle school. Hogwarts was the life.

If you didn't get detention, of course--which Sirin intended to avoid.

She wondered if there were any charms-related pieces she could read to enhance her understanding. Sirin was a girl with great ambitions--she intended to make herself a well-known witch. To accomplish that, she must seize every opportunity to improve when she could. Otherwise, her childhood would soon slip from her grasp and all would be lost. Of course, to have such philosophical thoughts wouldn't quite be viewed as "normal" for a first year. One's childhood is like a fleeting moment--present for a moment, gone in the next. It must be enjoyed fully, so Sirin let her mind wander and stayed at ease.

Sirin's legs began to get sore. She'd just been running freely in the halls, from her previous class. A table would do nicely if she could find one of course. Most of the "empty" tables were taken---she would have no choice but to share. She noticed many higher-years, and some drama going on but Sirin didn't need to see more questionable spectacles. She touched her beautifully braided purple hair, making sure it was presentable to whoever she would end up next to. She spotted a Gryffindor boy, seemingly very young, and decided to walk over. It wouldn't hurt to make some new friends. Connections were great things to have--and Sirin wanted to learn every first year's name (or at least, almost every).

Cautiously, she sat down next to the boy trying not to scare him away.
"Hey there! Are you a first year?"
It certainly wasn't the best way to introduce oneself, but it was a start. Trying not to sound like a creep, she continued.
"I'm Sirin--first year Ravenclaw. And...what's your name..?"

The dark haired boy looks up at the purple girl, surprised at someone deciding to sit next to him. 'Especially someone from another house.' He notices with a quick look at her robes. It was a beautiful blue, indicating that she was from Ravenclaw. And as soon as he made that thought, she confirmed it, saying she was from the house of birds. It was a nice house, he remembered, priding themselves on their smarts. But according to the boys in his dorm, most were overachievers due to this fact.

The girl was unusual, with her dyed and braided hair, but it was nothing compared to the rest of the student body. With the question, it seemed she was a first year like him! That was nice. Realizing the silence because of his thoughts, Jay gave a warm smile. "Jay. Divus. And yeah, I'm a first year." He pauses, eyebrows furrowed. Where did he hear that name from? Was she in one of his classes? He was sure he would remember the distinct girl.

"What's your surname? Sorry if that's a bit weird, you just seem a bit familiar." He bluntly said that, but quickly added the last part in case she thought he was rude. It was a common occurrence when it came to things like that.

Familiar? Sirin certainly didn't recall seeing this boy anywhere. Was he in one of her classes? Out on the grounds? Perhaps...

Then she remembered.

"I remember you! Jay Divus...my assigned quill pal! So nice to meet you in person. I suppose you read my recent letter about Elysia? I could go fetch her if you'd like."

Sirin was more than excited to introduce Elysia to Jay, and she was sure that Jay would love her too.
Sirin sat down, situating herself and taking out a book. "Hogwarts: a History" was her favorite--in fact, Sirin had already burned through her first bottle of ink just for annotating the book. She pulled out a fresh new quill (Elysia had chewed up the first one) and a fresh new bottle of ink.

She opened up her book to a new chapter and began annotating; again. She wasn't quite sure what Jay was doing but she awaited his reply eagerly.

As she read, she thought of Elysia. She'd recently adopted her and Sirin had been writing like crazy in her journal about her. If Jay agreed, Sirin would eagerly skip off to the common rooms and fetch Elysia. In fact, she would go get her now.

"Can you watch my stuff? I'll go get Elysia."
With that, she skipped off happily.

A large grin appeared on his face, and his eyes widened a bit. His assigned Quill Pal! Of course! Why didn't he remember the name that he had written over a million times? Well, probably not, but still.

"Well, how could you not remember me? My last name is one of a lifetime kind of name. And same!" He chuckled with his goofy smile. "Yeah, I saw it. Actually wrote a response, you should be getting it very soon!"

Right, the ferret! He loved the idea of seeing her ferret, being that he had one himself at one point in his life. Right around until he was nine, surprisingly. Jay looked over at the Ravenclaw, seeing her nose in a school book. The quill and ink looked brand new, and he was surprised. Had she already gone through a whole thing of ink? He looked at the text, annotated to the brim. Well, she was a Ravenclaw. He guessed that was why she was put there and not, say, Hufflepuff.

"No problem, bud! Don't take too long now!" He joked, and turned away to put his head down. The dorms were quite a ways away, so he could nap as she got her pet. Well, as long as Elysia was in the dorms.

When Sirin entered her dorm room she was greeted by enthusiastic squeaks and squeals. Not wanting to delay Jay too much, Sirin scooped up Elysia and some of her turkey breast snacks to bring. She wasn't sure if food was allowed in the library, but Elysia was a relatively clean eater and rarely left a mess after her meals. She flew back down the flight of stairs and back into the library, searching for her table with Jay. The boy was still sitting and studying, glancing at Sirin's fully-annotated book. Sirin was rather proud of her work, though the book was still not fully annotated and Sirin would not be completely satisfied until it was.

"I'm back! And, this is Elysia! She's a European ferret, I got her while shopping for my Hogwarts supplies."

Elysia squealed happily, leaning over and expecting rubs from Jay. The little ferret was as outgoing as Sirin was. Sirin hoped that Jay and Elysia would get along--and she especially hoped that Elysia would not do anything naughty, like scratching the books or Jay, or vandalizing a surface. She knew that consequences would follow. Sirin held Elysia tight, preventing the troublemaker from any sudden actions.

"She really likes meeting new people, and getting head pats."

During the time it took for Sirin to grab the small ferret and rush back, Jay had fallen asleep in his arms. He was tired, and he hadn't slept much due to a bunch of 'hands on' homework his teachers had given the class. Or Professors? He didn't really know. The book he had picked out was right under him, so it gave the impression of studying, or if you knew what book it was, reading. His hair was a wreck, and his usually bright aura seemed to be dimmed. Maybe school was finally getting to the young first year.

"Huh? Oh, nice." Jay was startled by the sudden voice and jolted awake, but he quickly calmed down when he realized who it was. Right, she had gone to get.. Who? The ferret? Elysia, he thought the name was. It was a nice name, for both humans and ferrets. He looked at the young duo, and perked up. She looked just like his old ferret! He snatches the small creature and hugs her, sticking his tongue out at Sirin. "M I N E . I hereby steal your pet and rename her Floof." Of course, this was in a joking manner, but it didn't seem like he was letting go of the gremlin anytime soon. The boy snuggled the floof and laughed a wholehearted laugh. The ferret seemed fine with this, just chilling, is how he would say it.
