I'm so screwed, I think, as my legs shake from tiredness. It's nearly 8pm, well I'm assuming it is. I haven't seen a clock in a while. It's my own fault really, but I truly thought I knew this castle well enough to venture through it at this time at night. I just wanted to take a quick walk to the grounds, where I had left my bag, hours earlier. I figured the chances were, that it would be gone, but a quick look would help me sleep easier. Wrong. So very wrong. I guess this is why they say, curiosity killed the cat.

See, the problem lies in the fact that, in the evenings, all the walls, staircases and corridors look the exact same. At least in my opinion. Dimly lit, and the moving staircases do not help. Who even though it would be a good idea to have moving staircases, anyway?

The corridors are pretty empty, which is unsurprising, but I pray for someone to come and help me through this maze of a school. I don't even care if I don't make it to the Grounds, even if I just get back to my dorms, I'd be happy. For some reason, I feel tears fall out of my eyes, the desperation truly setting in. What if I have to stay here till morning? I sit down on the stairs, letting my tired legs rest and think about what to do. Then, I hear footsteps coming up from behind me.

Ok...I might have spent a little too much time on the 4th floor. Right now, all I wanted was to get back to my common room, it was dark, and there was not a soul in sight. "HELLO?!" I yelled out into the darkness, partially just to see how far my voice could travel, for I was sure that the castle had great acoustics. Also to see if anyone would answer my call, which no one did. I ran down the corridors as fast as I could, occasionally tripping over my feet and robes. I avoided stairs(It's nighttime. Who uses stairs at nighttime?)and bounded down the corridors. Wasn't the common room on the first floor, though? It was very dark, and I could barely see where I was going! I needed to get back to my common room, or I would certainly be caught and might serve detention. I didn't know what floor I was on, though I did remember getting on the stairs a few hours ago...that didn't really help me, because, for all I know, I could be in the West Tower! I stared at the shadows on the walls. I had never navigated Hogwarts at night before, and I thought it was unsettling. That's when a saw a figure in front of me, a redheaded girl, who, by the looks of it, was in the same predicament I was. I tried to keep my footsteps quiet, but the girl should've already heard them by now. As soon as I slowed my walking, my foot caught on my robes, and I fell hard on the floor. "AH!" I yelled in pain. There was no doubt about it; I probably should've taken the stairs.

Hey, it's a fellow redhead! That was my first thought as the girl tripped and landed close to me. She let out a small yell, which frightened me a bit from the surprise. "Oh my god, are you okay?!" I exclaimed, getting up from where I was sitting. Judging from the fall she took, I figured she wasn't hurt too bad, so I helped her sit up and then took a good look at her. The girl looked remarkably similar to me, with the same red hair, freckles, and pale complexion. Her eyes however, were dark green unlike my deep blue eyes.

Realizing I didn't ask if she was injured or hurt, I cringed at myself. "Does it.. uh.. hurt anywhere?" I look at her closer to see if I can find any obvious injuries, and am pleased to find none. But, there could, of course be things like sprains, twists, and other internal problems. At that moment, I felt especially glad that my aunt taught me basic first aid skills, so this girl wasn't it terrible hands. Then, I realized I had forgotten to introduce myself, and ask her name. "Sorry, I didn't catch your name? I'm Zoe, first year."

As soon as I fell down near the girl, she whipped around and gave me a surprised look when I yelled. She asked if I was okay. I didn't think I had broken anything. If I had, it would have hurt a lot worse, and I wouldn't be able to get up or move. So I mumbled, "Yeah, I'm fine." She helped me sit up on the stairs. She looked a lot like me, with red hair and freckles, but her eyes were blue instead of green. She could *almost* be considered my doppelganger. Then the girl asked, "Does it.. uh.. hurt anywhere?" "It still hurts a little, but I think it's getting better..." was what I told her. Then she asked what my name was, and introduced herself. Her name was Zoe, and she was a first-year, like me! So I told her, "I'm Aurora, and I'm a first-year too! You can call me Ro." I felt much better, talking to her. I was very glad that I could talk to someone right now, in this dark, creepy castle that felt unsettling at night. I might need to watch where I'm stepping next time, though! I wanted to strike up a conversation with Zoe(no surprise there) because the thing that I like to call the "friendship instinct" took over. Completely forgetting about getting back to my common room and not being caught, I asked, "Uh...which house are you in? I'm in Hufflepuff." I couldn't tell if she was wearing robes or not, so I wasn't sure which house Zoe was in.
