An Unfortunate Encounter Closed

Alexx and Emma had been together in the library for hours, chatting away and goofing off. They hadn't gotten much work done; the Slytherin was always able to draw her friend away from her intellectual habits. They were paying no mind to those surrounding them, they were lost in their own little world of whatever the topic was. The blonde girl had a stack of comics next to her, Marvel and Archie alike, untouched, yet messily stacked. At the very top sat a Thor comic, one she intended to read at some point. She loved reading, but she loved joking around with friends even more. Suddenly, it came to her attention that she was failing Herbology, and had intended to grab a book or two on the subject.

"Hold up just a 'sec, I gotta run and grab something. Watch my comics for me?" Alexx asked. She didn't bother to wait and hear her friends response, instead she skipped over to the Herbology isle. Pondering, she stared blankly at the rather boring books. She'd rather be reading about Loki trying to take over the earth, or Spiderman fighting off one of his enemies. Heck, she'd rather be reading about Nathan Hale and Benjamin Tallmadge and their days at Yale, or George Washington's struggle to do more than outspy the British. This was way out of her comfort zone; way out of the genres she prefered.

From the corner of her eye, she noticed someone lurking her way. Alexx paid no mind to it. Probably just another student here for the same reason: Herbology is a hard subject to grasp.

No one reply until Lilith, Emma, and Aurelia have replied. Also, Lilith, I was asked to inform you that you're supposed to be confronting me here in this general area. The character Alexx notices is hinted at being yours. Sorry for Godmodding, I generally hate doing that, but I had to come up with a convincing starter.

Emma loved hanging out with Alexx, she always gave her a reason to slack off of her work when she most needed it. Though this time, she had brought comics along. She had easily recognized the Marvel comics, but she was more of a DC girl, though she had never intended to pick up a single comic in her life. She much preferred Wonder Woman and Batman to Spiderman and Iron Man. What was it with men and their reference to useless items?

The brunette skimmed through books that she had chosen herself, a load of Potion books. It wasn't exactly her forte as it was a subject she only wanted to get the homework out of her way. Suddenly noticing that she was indeed still studying she put down the book and picked up a new one about Dragons, it was more interesting then Rat Spleens.

She was interrupted by Alexx, who said she needed to 'grab something', but before she could shrug and approve, her friend had already left. She grabbed a comic off the top as skimmed through the title, something about Loki, whoever that was. Emma flipped through the comic as it were an extremely slow flipbook and caught several looks of mystical things. They were things that didn't exist in the Wizarding World, nor the Muggle World.

Emma had an interesting friend. She watched as she made her way to the Herbology section, she had also dreaded Herbology. It wasn't hard, but it also wasn't easy, though if she had a choice, she wouldn't have done it at all. After all, it was homework.

Lilith's fingers brushed over the spines of books as she looked for something on Defense of the Dark Arts. Since Hogwarts has started, Lilith has been spending more time than she ever thought possible in the library. When she was little, she used to be a big reader to help distract herself, but now she was at Hogwarts. She didn't need to read anymore. Yet, here she was, switching out action and adventure for old books on the history of spells.

Moving her way down the aisle, Lilith accidentally brushed shoulders with someone. Doing a quick peek over her side, Lilith found out it was a blonde Slytherin and did a double take. She recognized this girl. Her parents basically made her memorize every Pureblood in the entire world, including this girl. She didn't know her first name but was sure this girl was a Helm.

Probably a Death Eater, the back of her head hissed distastefully. She knew the Helm's used to be Death Eaters. Almost every Pureblood family knew that.

Lilith's lip twitched downwards as she abruptly turned around, bumping into the girl with more force than necessary. She couldn't stop her mouth from blurting out hatefully, "Death Eater," in the same manner a Death Eater would say, "Mudblood."

She knew she shouldn't have. Lilith herself would have hated to have that said about her. But you ran away, her mind reminded her. For all she knew, this Helm still lived at home. She had nice clothes and shiny shoes. Lilith severely doubted she was anything like her. Subconsciously, Lilith was channeling her anger for her parents into this girl. If she realized it, she probably wouldn't mind it very much.

Alexx turned towards the raven-haired Gryffindor who had spat out a rude comment towards her. Death-eater. The term was all too real in Alexx's mind. She had heard the phrase time and time again, knowing the nasty looks and harsh words that followed. How this girl knew of her parents tragic past was beyond her, but that didn't matter now. Alexx loved her family, and she would do whatever it takes to defend them.

"The tempter or the tempted, who sins most?" She wasn't sure that a Shakespeare quote could truly save her now, but it's all she had. She had been caught off guard! And who was this girl, high and mighty as she stood, to assume that she was her parents? Alexx wasn't a death-eater, surely that was obvious.

She looked back, hoping that if things got too rough, Emma might come in and intervene in a more reasonable sense. Alexx knew that if this girl did anything furthermore to offend her and her honour, she would not hesitate to do something about it. Her honour was the one thing she carried through this whole thing intact, and she intended to preserve it.

Turning back to the Gryffindor girl, she sized her up and didn't feel too intimidated. There was nothing about this girl that threatened Alexx, but maybe that was just Alexx being Alexx; she was not spooked easy.

Lilith turned back to the Slytherin Helm and arched a thin, dark brow. Who talks like that? Is that how she actually spoke? It sounded like she was quoting something, but Lilith couldn't come up with what she might have gotten it from. Maybe that's how Purebloods talk nowadays and her family has been out of the loop for too long.

She understood what the girl meant. When it came down to who was the better person, Lilith was sure she would beat out a blood supremacist. It didn't matter who said what first when the words were true (or at least Lilith believed the words to be true).

"Excuse me?" Lilith questioned, her voice monotone with a slight hint of warning. Lilith could move on from this, but could the other girl? Lilith herself would never take such words being thrown at her, but this girl wasn't Lilith, she had to remind herself again.

Maybe she'll hex me, a dark voice thought in the back of her mind, laughing. Lilith's hand twitched towards the pocket of her robes, where she kept her aspen wand. Brilliant for dueling, Ollivander's voice echoed back from when she got her wand. Lilith forced herself to be restrained.

Alexx smirked, seeing the slight confusion on the girls face. To quote classic literature was Alexx's strong point. Though she had only learned basic spells so far (she was only a first year, after all), Alexx gripped at the wand from inside her robe the same way the other girl seemed to. Oh this will be fun.

"You're excused." Alexx sarcastically said, nodding. Truthfully, she had no idea who this girl was or how she knew of her history. Alexx had spent such a long time between France and the United States, she was almost sure no one would remember her family's name. Yet here she was. This day had been anticipated for a long time, she was almost surprised that this late in the year was the first time this problem had occurred. She remembered her brother Mikey's warning about situations like these, and then she remembered Tex. Poor Tex who had left school and never spoke of his Hogwarts days, it always being assumed that he was traumatized by the tauntings of their parents past. Mikey was strong but damaged. Tex was a softy turned cold. Alexx wouldn't let herself be torn down by a decision that wasn't her own.

"Je ne suis pas mes parents." Her thick, French accent started to come out, and her wrist twitched a little bit. If there was one thing Alexx disliked, it was people assuming she was her family. Nothing in this world made her angrier.

To Alexx, this wasn't about blood or who was more superior. Sure, that was her parents way back then, but it didn't have to be hers. She was better than the choices they made, and she would prove that. She didn't care if the whole school saw her prove this girl wrong, or if no one saw. She'd learn just who Alexx truly was since she thought she knew her so well.

Hey! I don't think there's any sort of posting order aha, we can just post whenever we see fit. Also, French to English translation: I am not my parents.

Emma had just finished skimming through a comic book. It was brightly colored, every shade of red could be found. Absentmindedly, she imagined her fingers were legs and walked across the table doing so. She had heard a girl say "Excuse me", but she had simply paid it no attention, it was most likely someone attempting to get by.

Then there was a voice she did recognize. She wasn't the best at French, for her parents always spoke English around her. She despised when they'd discuss in French behind her back. What did she get into... Emma thought to herself as she stood up wearily, throwing her shoulders back and her head up briefly. She scanned the aisles at a quicker pace than her usual, recalling where Alexx had told her she'd be. She caught several people which she didn't know, she continued to scan the racks.

Finally, the Herbology aisle came to view and she slowed down. With all the shelves in the library, you could practically play a game of Hide-And-Seek. She snuck from behind Alexx and stood to her right, looking from her to the Gryffindor. Great, another Harry-Malfoy relationship.

"What's going on?" Emma asked, looking at the Gryffindor by the time she had finished the question. Her voice was light and concerning, she surely didn't want to make another enemy this year. She looked down at the robes of the two, they surely couldn't fight in a library.

Lilith shrugged at the new girl. "Nothing," she lied, looking past the brunette to the blonde Slytherin, tilting her head slightly to the side, analyzing her movements, wondering what she was going to do.

The new girl that arrived was a Ravenclaw, shorter than Lilith, that was good. She seemed polite enough, but judging by how she stood protectively by the Helm's side like a puppy. Lilith tried to focus on how she was being more polite than her friend, but other than that, ignored her presence altogether.

"Qui est la fille?" Lilith's azul eyes flickered to the new girl before going back to the blonde. Her time on the streets taught her many things, especially when she met a French runaway boy who has been living on the streets of London since he was a little boy. Lilith picked up a simple talk.

The girl's hand was on her wand and Lilith tried to be as nonchalant as possible when she pulled her wand from her pocket, letting it lay limply at her side. She was a first year. It wasn't like she could start dueling the girl in the middle of the library, but she was sure her wand could protect her if it came down to state. The girl's earlier words didn't make her seem anything less than the type Lilith's hated.

"Maybe you should go back to momma and papa, aye?" Lilith offered coldly, narrowing her azul eyes.

"C'est une amie, pas que ce soit votre affaire." Alexx snarled, glaring at her. "And I fight my own battles, not my parents, thanks." She then turned to Emma, who had been kind enough to step in.

"It's okay. I'm sure it's just a misunderstanding; unless there's something this raven-haired Gryffindor would like to share with the class." She responded to Emma. Her first words were kind, with a gentle smile on her face. That was how she treated her friends. However, when mentioning the presence of the girl who was clad in maroon and gold, her words became hostile and cold.

This was what it was like growing up with siblings, only worse. There really was no one to break up the argument, unless Emma wanted to act as sort of a peacekeeper. But she saw through that hope; Emma was a good friend, loyal and protective. She would defend Alexx if needed. It was a quality she liked and was probably what made them friends, to begin with.

She sent a weary glance to her brunette friend. They were first years, no way they could duel right here. Alexx wasn't even on the dueling club! In fact, she didn't much care for spells or potions in general. The blonde girl was a book nerd, who much preferred astronomy, history, and writing. She even liked mathematics! That should say enough about her as a witch. Sure, she wasn't awful at magic, she had high marks, but it wasn't her favorite thing in the world. She couldn't even find herself to like quidditch (as Alexx was a musician, not a flyer). All she could do now was hope if there was any fighting, wands would be left out of it.

Lilith's head fell at an angle down before tilting her head the other way, seems to be saying things without moving her mouth. She greatly prefers English to French and only understood every other word the French girl said, but she got the gis. The look the Helm girl was giving her was a warning, cold as stone, but she wasn't running straight into a Lilith with her wand out.

"Of course not." Lilith blinked. "At least for now until you push over some Muggleborn or hex a Half-blood." Lilith regretted the words as soon as they left her mouth. She knew she shouldn't have said that. It wasn't like Lilith wanted to get into a duel in the middle of the library of all places.

It's the truth, though, her mind reminded her about her words. Honesty was the best policy, right?

She gripped her wand just a little bit tighter and stared down the Slytherin. Her friend didn't seem to be much of a threat either, not that it was any of her business anyway. Lilith might be able to take them both if it came to it. From her knowledge, the Helm wasn't in dueling club and wasn't on the Quidditch team. Her arms didn't seem as strong as Lilith's own. Then again, Lilith only flew around on her own. The girl could very well be like her and have hidden tricks up her sleeves.
