Blessed by the Stars
Sirin stood in the vast expanse of the Hogwarts ballroom. Everything about it was magnificent, and Sirin wanted to immerse herself in all of it. She felt like she was living in a dream–fresh out of a fairytale. Sirin wasn’t wearing her dress-though she had it, it was simply lying around in her trunk. After all, she still hadn’t found a ball date yet and did not feel the need to wear such formal dress. Sirin admired all the girls and boys dancing peacefully in the hall–and she hoped that she wasn’t too noticeable. Taking a light stroll around the room, she observed the different dance moves–she’d need them in the future. Sirin wasn’t the best dancer, but she could certainly learn–or at least, try to learn. Maybe her fated ball date could teach her. At this point, Sirin didn’t even mind simply going to the ball as a group of friends, since she’d had barely any luck finding someone who was interested in her. I’m too young, anyways. I’m eleven, and dating seems a bit extreme. On the outside, Sirin seemed to be quiet, shy, and introverted, but to be frank, she was quite outgoing. Deep down in her heart she knew that she longed for someone to be with her. She hoped for a miracle, a blessing from the stars: she wished for someone to notice her, to come with her to the ball.

Nicole had wandered down to the ballroom quite by accident, thoughts of the upcoming ball on her mind. She'd already owled home about it, and her sister, Juliette, had insisted she attend. Nicole, though hesitant, had relented--after all, it could be fun. And, Juli, on a mission, had already secured a Cinderella themed outfit for Nicole to wear, complete with glass slippers (which, quite frankly, Nicole found a bit ridiculous). As the Richards had never had terribly much money, Nicole was at a loss for how her sister had managed to come up with these things.
But she had no one to go with, and the idea of going alone seemed daunting and, to be honest, scary. But she didn't really want to ask anyone to come with her to the ball, even just as friends (more than friends was something Nicole didn't want to think about at all, strange as that might be. Everything seemed to whirlwind-like for her to have to worry about something like that.) Now, as she watched her fellow classmates dance, she felt very, very shy. How would she even act at a ball? Everyone else seemed eager to go, but Nicole was already having second thoughts.
It was then she noticed the girl near the edges of the ballroom, clearly trying to stay out of the way. She looked about her age, but Nicole couldn't be sure. Going over to introduce herself would be the right thing to do (maybe this girl needed someone to go to with the ball, too, or had a group Nicole could tag along with?) but she couldn't bring herself to do it. Her shyness really seemed to be a curse.

Many would comment that Sirin had the ability to tell when people were near, and was excellent at reading other people's feelings. Though she was no superhuman being, she could sense someone approaching her. It's like that feeling of being watched. Sirin turned around to see a blond haired girl, about her age, floundering around the premises of the ballroom. The girl also seemed nervous, and contemplating. She blushed when their eyes met.
"It's fine, you don't have to be shy. I'm kind of lonely anyways, you can join me if you'd like."
Sirin hoped that she hadn't misunderstood the girl--if she did, that would have been extremely embarrassing. Besides, the fact that Sirin had noticed the girl before that girl even approached Sirin would (normally) strike others as a bit creepy. Sirin sincerely hoped that she hadn't creeped out the other girl. This may be a future friend, and Sirin certainly did not want to squander the opportunity. Suck it up, Sirin, It'll be fine. You're such a sweet, innocent, sincere girl. Who would ever think of you as a creep? Sirin tried to reassure herself. She realized that, while she was lost in thought, she was probably making weird faces and immediately covered her mouth in embarrassment.

Nicole was still debating over whether or not to go over and introduce herself when the other girl spoke, inviting Nicole to join her. It surprised her--she hadn't thought she'd been noticed. Not many people did notice her, due to her habit of staying at the fringe of things. But Nicole appreciated the invitation, nonetheless.
"Thank you," she said, somewhat softly. She went over and stood beside her, pausing for a moment before speaking again. "What brings you here?" She asked. She hoped the question didn't sound rude, but she was curious--the girl wasn't dancing, but had been off by herself, like Nicole. It was then she realized she hadn't introduced herself. "I'm Nicole, by the way. A first year Ravenclaw." She said it rather pridefully--she had been pleased to be sorted into Ravenclaw, though she had only known of what she had read beforehand.
"Are you going to the ball?" Nicole asked. It felt rather odd to be asking such a direct question, to someone she had just met, but this girl seemed nice enough, and Nicole was eager to meet a potential friend, just so long as she didn't spoil it before hand. "I'm going," she added. "I think. I don't know though...I might change my mind." Aware she was perhaps being to forward, Nicole lapsed into silence again. Hopefully, she hadn't scared the girl off.
