The rain was no longer soothing, in fact, it was starting to get on Nico's nerves. "No, I'm not joking. It's my father's house, or... well, it was."
She was laughing at him. The audacity this girl had. Nico looked up and gave her his "super deluxe 'You. Are. Dead.' glare."
The rain started coming down even harder, Nico couldn't see ten feet in front of him. Taking advantage of all the noise from the rain, he looked Kayla in the eye and said, "I said sorry. I am a Parselmouth, which would explain why I said it in Parseltongue."
"Alright! Said two impossible things! It's a record!"
There was another long pause. Nico wondered if she had heard him or not, it didn't matter either way, really. Being able to speak Parseltongue wasn't exactly a bad thing any more. Several students here at Hogwarts could talk to snakes as well.
Nico spun his father's old ring, and then it slipped off his finger. He dropped down to the ground and began searching for it frantically. "Where is it? No, no, no... Please! Where did it go?!"

Kayla arched a thin eyebrow. "Was?" Kayla knew about death. She knew how it was to uncomfortably put everything in past tense. It could all be very confusing. It's either death or his father doesn't live there anymore.
Nico looked straight at her, and glared. He glared at her. Which simply sent her into a fit of laughter, her one hand was clutching her stomach as she died of laughter, the other steadily holding the umbrella as it shook dangerously. But he said he was a parselmouth, and she stopped laughing immedietly.
"You're joking. You are joking,"Kayla said in disbelief. "You're not joking! Woah that's so cool, so you can talk to snakes? So you can look at a snake in the eye and tell it 'you suck'? Cool!" Abilities were always considered cool to Kayla, simple things from sword swallowing to being able to talk to snakes.
Nico suddenly crouched down, searching for something frantically.
"Wheres what? Nico, where's what? What did you loose?" Kaylas voice became crisp as she watched him search in the mud. she put the umbrella down carefully before crouching down next to him. "What're we looking for? Is it shiny? Small? My gods Nico, talk to me."
Kayla cursed silently as the rain poured all over her; now she was soaked, water began to soak her socks. Not the best scenario to be stuck in, but she kept her eyes on the muddy ground.

The tall thin frame walked across the halls and the rooms until finally is legs had dragged outside to the great outdoors. His black hair like a curtain Infront of his face. He loved rain, it was somewhat like a lullaby. Last time he had come here three girls were here one had scared him half to death while he was reading a newspaper. Luckily, besides that no one really bothered him when he was reading out here. He contiued his journey to the great lake, the sounds of the water was quite calming... So soothing until this day took a turn for the worst, talking... LOUD talking. Across from him a good distance stood two students who looked around his age.
He heard the brunette girl speak, "What're we looking for? Is it shiny? Small? My gods Nico, talk to me."
Then there was silence... Just the pitter patter of rain as it soaked the two students to the bone. The brunette girl and the dark haired boy stood quiet. Thymus felt guilty as he kept his hands within his dark, coat. He looked at the umbrella he clutched in his hand. He sighed, knowing it was the nice thing to do.
He walked over his boots squishing on the wet grass.
"Here," he said holding the black umbrella out to the two students. "You have more use of it than I do, you'll catch your deaths out here in the rain."
He handed them the umbrella.
"Good luck to you both," he said turning away to leave.

"No, no, no... I can't lose it here... Where is it?!"
Nico frantically searched the ground for his ring. He didn't even hear Kayla talking to him. It was his dad's ring. One of the only things he had left from him. Everything else that his dad had left him was back at his home, locked high up on his bookshelf.
"My... my- my ring! Where did it go?!" He finally managed to say.
With shaking hands, he felt through the wet grass and mud. He wouldn't cry. No, never. A glimpse of silver caused Nico to laugh, he had found it, finally. Nico picked it up and showed it to Kayla, "Look! I found it! It was- Uhm, hello." A boy had walked up to them, he looked a little familiar to Nico. He was most likely in Slytherin, the boy just looked the part.
"Oh, um, thanks. But we have one already, thanks though, I guess," He said with a little uncertainty.
Nico glanced at Kayla, maybe she knew what they should say. He had turned to walk away, but when Nico spoke he had stopped. Hopefully, the boy didn't think that Nico was looking for a conversation, because he certainly was not. Kayla was intimidating enough as it was, (although Nico will never admit it) he didn't need another person to witness how utterly hopeless he was with people.

Kayla glanced at Nico, his face was stuck with worry he looked so scared- afraid, like he was gonna...cry.
"Ring, okay. Ring, ring, ring.." Kayla muttered to herself repeatedly as she looked through the mud, clumping through chunks of wet grass. Gods, this was messy. She knew she was probably going to be sick after this, but she just kept pulling grass from the ground, kept searching through the mud.
Then he laughed.
Kayla looked over quickly at Nico, the same face that was stricken with worry and fear, was now much more relaxed, he laughed.
"You found it! Oooh its pretty!" Kayla said, her voice full of relief, she wanted to take a closer look at it, but she was interrupted from the question. She looked up at a boy with black hair, curtained in front of his eyes, as he held out his umbrella. It took Kayla a second realise the stranger was talking to them. She exchanged a glance with Nico, who was clearly lost for words. She always had to do the talking, didn't she?
"Hello!" Kayla said to the stranger, giving him her brightest smile. "Thank you so much for the offer, but we already have our own umbrella, you can keep yours, don't want you getting soaked! That wasn't right, was it? You're already soaked so the umbrella wouldn't be much use to you, wouldn't it be? I mean- sorry I just meant that we don't need it. I'm Kayla, this is Nico," she added, gesturing at Nico, as she politely decided to introduce the both of them. "I would shake your hand, or hug you or something but my hands are kinda filthy, so I can only keep talking, I suppose."
She gave Nico a side glance, she didn't really know what to say next. Surprise, surprise! Her best weapon, she wasn't able to use. Suppose the rain was really getting to her.
"Do you know him?" Kayla mouthed slowly to Nico, with the tiniest of nods to the new arrival.

It is ALWAYS people.
Whether it is one person, or five, it's always people.
Nico does not like people. Nope. Quite the opposite really. But currently, he is being forced into socialization. And he hates it.
Kayla's okay though. She just talks, a lot. And she just never stops. Ever. Nico finds it a little painful sometimes. She just needs to shhh...

Kayla silently asked Nico if he knew the strange boy. "Wait, he's not strange. He honestly looks a bit like me. God, he looks like a vampire. Do I look like a vampire?! Maybe I should wear less depressing clothes..." Nico shook his head ever so slightly. Maybe he recognized him from somewhere, but he didn't know him.
With his eyebrows raised slightly and a mock disapproving look on his face, he said to Kayla,"Doll, you talk too much." He smirked at her, bothering people like her was so easy.
Turning to the thin boy standing in front of them, he said, "Apologies for the sparkly, happy, pretty, shiny one. Her smile deceives many. Why, not too long ago, she practically shoved me into the lake. She's rather rude as well, so be warned."
A moment passed as Nico waited for Kayla's reaction to what he had said about her. At the least, he was expecting to get slapped.

"Oh, um, thanks. But we have one already, thanks though, I guess," the boy said with a little uncertainty, Thymus stopped and turned to look at the two students. The boy looked at the girl.
She looked at something the boy held in his hand, small and silver. The girl had obviously not notice him or ignored him. Either one.
"Hello!" said the girl facing Thymus giving him her brightest smile. She's one of those people. Kayla mouthed something to Nico that Thynus couldn't make out gesturing her head to him.

Thymus didn't really like the conversation... It was rather odd and a bit uncomfortable. They must know each other well.
"I see, I didn't know you had umbrella as you weren't using it, by the way are you two dating? I apologize if not," this is what happened when he tried to help, "Nice to meet you Kayla and Nico my name is Thymus Genus Syringia Quercus Timerey, I apologize for disturbing you two... But if you don't mind my asking WHAT were you two doing?... It looked rather odd... Yes?"
He cursed himself, why did he let his curiosity get the best of him? Curiosity killed the cat, that's what his aunt is always telling him. They looked as if they could benefit from a riddle.
"Nevermind, instead..." He smiled very slightly revealing his silver brackets on his teeth. "Riddle-me-this... I am a ship that can be made to ride the greatest waves. Yet, I'm not built by objects but built with minds, what am I? Three guesses... Yes?"

"Doll?! Since when am I sparkly?...Pretty?"
"Excuse you! I didn't do such a thing, I am quite a polite person, thank you very much. But you practically threatened to push me into the lake," Kayla said, feigning innocence. She rolling her eyes at Nico, and faced the stranger.
"No need to worry! It's over there so I don't think people would notice it," Kayla said, gerking her head towards the abounded umbrella.

"Long name," Kayla noted. "But it's nice to meet you too!"
Kayla wasn't terrible with names, but her memory wasn't exactly great.
"We were, er, just looking for Nico's thingie. He lost it in the mud so we were just searching! It looked odd?" She asked; it looked odd? She frowned, as indirect as it was, she knew fully well what Thymus was saying.
Kayla had never been a fan of riddles. They were either twisted, difficult or in most cases both. She chose more theoretical explanations over logical ones. But riddles were always fun, in a way. Hell, if she had a gun pointed to her head and she had to answer a riddle...well funeral plans were always something that could be arranged.
"Three guesses?" Kayla stood up, dusting her mud fillee hands on her pants which wer only partially mud filled. "Sounds about right. Okay, let's see, a ship that can ride the greatest waves? The titanic? Wait no- not my answer! The titanic sank, so, nevermind. Made with minds...a ship built with minds. Hmm." she frowned again, looking down as she crossed her arms. Gods, since when did it get so cold?

Nico burst out laughing. It was a true, genuine laugh. Those rarely came from Nico. He laughed and laughed for at least five minutes, if not more. He slipped and fell in the mud, which just made him laugh harder. Kayla was giving him a look, but he didn't care. Thymus thought that he and Kayla were dating, and that was the most hilarious thing Nico had ever heard in his life.
Once Nico finally stopped laughing, he said with tears in his eyes, "Nah, mate. Her?! Thymus, are you thinking straight? Kayla is not my girlfriend. She's too...." he paused, thinking of something to say. He looked at her as he stood up, then he decided to pretend he hadn't said anything. "Oh my god, Nico, you are an IDIOT!"
"Well, I don't know about you, madam, but I was looking for my ring," he said, showing it to her. Nico then turned to Thymus to answer his riddle, "A ship... That can ride the greatest waves? But it's not built with tools. It is built with the mind? Duh, it's not the titanic... Like a- maybe a type of relationship...? Right?"
Riddles. Nico's greatest enemy, next to birds. Birds were scary. But back to riddles. Nico's smart but riddles make him look stupid, and he definitely didn't want to look stupid in front of Kayla.

"Nah, mate. Her?! Thymus, are you thinking straight? Kayla is not my girlfriend. She's too...." he paused lost for words. There was a long pause of silence. Before Nick turned to look at Thymus.
"A ship... That can ride the greatest waves? But it's not built with tools. It is built with the mind? Duh, it's not the titanic... Like a- maybe a type of relationship...? Right?"
"Correct its not the Titanic, and it is a type of relationship. But what relationship type is it? I will give you a clue. If true this can overcome the biggest waves, it can take multiple people but never just one. It cannot be built alone."
He stayed expressionless, as they racked their minds for the answer. Aw, yes I do love confusing people he thought with a smile.
