Dancing in the moonlight
Zoe was dancing. Arms swinging above her, she whirled around and whooped her happiness on the polished wooden tiles. Foot forward. Back. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d done this — why had she ever stopped? Was she a particular good dancer? No. Did she care? Also no.
Singing to all sorts of songs from country, to swoony blues, to punk heavy metal, and funky pop music, her body swaying with the melodies. It was probably a couple minutes before midnight, and the ballroom looked amazing, with moonlight streaming in through the wide glass windows. The insomnia was too much that night, and what she really felt like doing was dancing. So she snuck down to the fourth floor stepped onto those elegant hardwood floors and let her body take over.
After about fifteen minutes of dancing her heart out, she heard the doors of the ballroom open. Zoe was petrified, was it a teacher? Definitely some staff. Oh god, what if it was her potions teacher? The ballroom had basically no furniture, so nothing to hide behind. All she could do was try to hide in the darkness, and hope for the best. Little did she know, that hiding wasn't going to get her anywhere.

Dancing in the moonlight
Pearl Hated dancing in front of people. But when no one was looking, she liked to dance. She didn't think she was particularly good at it, but she had fun when she did. However, this time, when she came in, She saw someone else dancing. Now this wasn't particularly unusual. There were plenty of people who came to dance every once in a while. The only thing that was unusual, was how late at night she was dancing. "U-Uhm, I'm sorry for inturrupting.. b-but.. u-uh... y-you dance r-really good?" That sounded weird. She really didn't mean to intrude, but she was usually the one who was dancing here at this hour. "Gah! I-I'm sorry! I sound like a total creep now, don't I? I-It's just I'm usually the one who's dancing here at this time.." Pearl hoped that this person wouldn't snitch on her. She had faith in her though, even though she didn't know her. That's just the kind of person she was. She wanted to believe the best in everyone, even those who didn't deserve it. She tried to help anyone she could, but she was also very nervous and uncertain about everything. She hoped this person wouldn't get mad at her and tell her to go away like everyone in her childhood had. It wasn't her fault her parents were famous, but everyone always seemed to assume bad things of her because she was "rich" Pearl closed the door silently behind her and tried to make the most of the situation. "I-if it helps, I won't tattle on you. Though I would watch out next time. You dance really well, but if you danced a little quieter, Then no one would know you were here. I however, don't dance really well, but I dance very quietly"

Dancing in the moonlight
The withered figure walked about the halls, he looked like he was lost but yet he knew every step of the way. Every night he likes to wander after all had fallen quiet after all had fallen asleep. He blended in with the shadows with his dark clothes and long black hair that hid his sunken pale face and quiet, light footsteps. He searched for a quiet place where he could be alone, so far no luck but he didn't want to go back to his dorm for the student who was trying to socialize with him while he was trying to get a good read of grimms tales. The boy had said, "Brothers Grimm, uh, a little too obvious with the whole emo persona there buddy, but hey, we all have our preferences. The name is Habib Acropolis Slytherin's showman and I have decided to refer to you as THE GRIMM, which has a nice ring to it." He didn't know why it had boiled his blood but only for a split second. He was not just some emo persona he told himself before he caught a glimpse of himself in the window's reflection. He looked dead, with his cold expression, pale skin and scraggly black hair. He touched his sunken cheekbones, "Looks aren't everything." He reassured himself, even though he knew it wasn't true. He continued his venture, his tall shadow following him. Stalking him as he finally came to the ball room, he stopped before approaching, it reminded him of his little cousin back at home. She loved dancing everywhere, all the time until she couldn't, he sighed. She looked up to him, he knew and it only broke his heart. His face stayed expressionless, when he noticed the ballroom door was creaked open he used the tip of his finger to push the door creating a disturbing creak, there within the room stood two girls. He walked in mid-sentence as the girl with shining blonde hair said, "Then no one would know you were here. I however, don't dance really well, but I dance very quietly."
She directed her speech to the middle of the ballroom where sat a girl with Scarlett hair. There goes the chance of reading in the ballroom, he sighed he turned to leave with his book of grimm tight in his hand.

Dancing in the moonlight
Jeez, how many people are up this late at night, Zoe thought to herself. First the blonde girl, who seemed more nervous than Zoe herself, which was saying something. Then, this pale fellow, clutching a book. When the dark haired boy came in, she nearly jumped. For one thing, she hadn't heard him come in, and was distracted by the blonde haired girl. He had a tall frame, brown hair nearly reaching his shoulders and a cold stern expression. His eyes felt like they were boring into her skull, and Zoe averted his gaze for a second.
Taking a deep breath Zoe took a closer look at the boy, and realized she actually recognized him, from the Slytherin table in the great hall. As he turned to leave, she said "Wait! If you're leaving because we're here, don't. I can go, if you want. I've been here for a while anyway. Not sure about her but.." Zoe gestured to the blonde girl.
"I'm Zoe, Gryffindor, year one. Pleasure to meet you." She held out her hand for a handshake, then realized that was just weird and pulled it away. Realizing she didn't respond to the blonde girl, Zoe said "Hi. Sorry, I didn't realize there was anyone up this time at night. It's nearly midnight after all."

...She directed her speech to the middle of the ballroom where sat a girl with Scarlett hair. There goes the chance of reading in the ballroom, he sighed he turned to leave with his book of grimm tight in his hand. But before he could leave the girl with Scarlett hair spoke up,
"Wait! If you're leaving because we're here, don't. I can go, if you want. I've been here for a while anyway. Not sure about her but.."
He froze, they had seen him, he cursed to himself turning himself around to face the girls. The Scarlett haired girl continued,
"I'm Zoe, Gryffindor, year one. Pleasure to meet you." She held out her hand for a handshake, but quickly pulled it away. She then turned to the blonde and said,
"Hi. Sorry, I didn't realize there was anyone up this time at night. It's nearly midnight after all."
"Hello Zoey, my name is Thymus Genus Syringia Quercus Timerey, first year much like you, Slytherin not like you," he stated in dictionary like voice. "No need to leave, I was only looking for a place to read a book, as I only have at night to enjoy the things I enjoy. For things we enjoy are always enjoyable unless enjoyed too much they become unenjoyable... Yes?"
"I will sit in the corner and be of no bother, continue forth with your activities as I greatly appreciate the invitation.... Thank you,"
He then quietly and briskly walked over to the corner and sat on the window sill reading the book he waited to enjoy, he kept an eye out though for trouble he didn't want any, not in the slightest to say the least.

Dancing in the moonlight
Watching the boy, who she now knew as Thymus, walk away and sit on the windowsill and start to read, Zoe was a bit confused as to what to do next. Maybe go to bed, she thought. Thymus seemed like a very interesting boy, and she was keen to know more about him, though he didn't seem much like a people's person. She walked over to a windowsill, (not the one Thymus was at) and tried to open the window to get some air. The cool September nights reminded her of home, but to her dismay, it was locked.
Zoe always kept her wand with her, wherever she went, so she took it out and whispered, "Alohomora". She had never tried the unlocking spell before, so unsurprisingly, it failed. Sighing, she sat down on the floor, her knees close to her chest, leaning on the cold wall. She took a look at Thymus, who was still reading, but she had a slight feeling that he had been watching her, though she couldn't know for sure. She didn't feel like going all the way back to the Gryffindor dorms yet, so she just stared out into space, deep in thought.
Her mind wandered to all sorts of things-- home, the assignments she had not even started and the sleep she was missing. She was brought back to reality as she heard something going on with the two other first years.

He then quietly and briskly walked over to the corner and sat on the window sill reading the book he waited to enjoy, he kept an eye out though for trouble he didn't want any, not in the slightest to say the least.
He watched quietly behind as book as he heard Zoe walk over to another windowsill and look out the window. She took out her wand and told a spell on the moonlight, Alohomora. An unlocking spell, Thymus was not shocked when it didn't work, she did completely wrong, had she not studied? Well she was only a first year like him. He couldn't control himself.
"'al-LOH-ha-MOR-ah," he said his Scottish accent coming out. "Backward S curving up at th' end. Dinnae ye read?"
He cursed himself under his breath behind his book of Egar Allen Poe. First, he couldn't do the spell himself, Second he slipped up! It was hard when you were as exhausted as he was. After some silence passed.
"Sorry, that wis rude o' me," he spoke quietly but could be heard in the silent room like an echo. "Yer aye learning.... Yes?"
He wouldn't dare ever say that to Alice so why would he say that to someone else? His only dream was to be a good person, he wasn't doing a good job of it. He sighed. He set down the book on his lap to look out the window at the magnificent nightsky, how could it be so beautiful and terrifying. He shivered as he heard the strange noises that protruded from the depths of the forbidden forest that lay outside. Thymus moves his long black hair from his face to rest behind his ear, it was like he was seeing everything for the first time, he held his locket and key that lay beneath his black shirt as he gazed in another world at the bright moon. What could he do?

Pearl couldn't even seem to be processing what was around her. She darted quickly into a corner when Thymus came in. Oh lord, how should she introduce herself without sounding awkward??? She was so nervous, that she seemed to be shaking. They both introduced themselves... How in the name of Albus Dumbledore would she be able to introduce herself? Oh yeah, just walk up and say, "Hi my name's Pearl Geode. Yes my parents are in the ministry and yes they are famous. You wanna be friends even though I'm a nervous wreck?!" She awkwardly sat there, and then said, "s-sorry to intrude on y-your r-reading and d-dancing... I j-just didn't e-expect anyone else to be here... I-I'm Pearl.. I'm a first year in HufflePuff... I k-kind of am not that good at talking to people... I-I can leave if you want!" Oh Dear. That sounded awkward... How on earth was she supposed to talk to people though? Her parents were always so rude, and her brother was always so confident. It just didn't make sense that they had so much confidence. Then again, her parents were in RavenClaw, and her Brother in GryffinDor. Maybe she was just unlucky... She hoped they wouldn't out her like everyone in her home town...

Dancing in the moonlight
The criticism of her charm not working stung. Zoe prided herself in being good at Charms, and the comment made her cringe and blush with embarrassment. She looked over at Thymus, and said "Haha, yeah. I've never tried it before so... but, if you know how to do it, would you mind? It's a bit stuffy in here, the fresh air would be nice." She awkwardly twirled her hair, not knowing what to do with her hands.
Looking over at the blonde girl, who introduced herself as Pearl, she smiled at her nervousness. It was sort of endearing to see how shy she was. "No worries, it's not like we reserved it or whatever. Nice to meet you, by the way, Pearl." Zoe thought it was strange that all of them were from different houses, and coincidentally met that late night. As a Gryffindor, it was easy to get to the ballroom, it was just one floor down. But for Pearl, she had to climb a couple floors, and for Thymus, he had to go up more than five stories, from the Slytherin dorms. Zoe kind of was impressed at their dedication, and once again had the urge to know more about them, but Thymus was very reserved, and Pearl seemed very timid.

"No, No, Intrusion at all, if anything I intruded on you two, nice to meet you Pearl," he said politely.
"No worries, it's not like we reserved it or whatever. Nice to meet you, by the way, Pearl," Zoe said comforting Pearl's anxiety.
"N-nice to meet you too. Y-you're a Gryffindor, right? I've seen you a few times in the great hall," Pearl said to Zoe, she took a quick look at Thymus and sighed looking out the window. Everyone sat in silence for a bit.
"So y-you like dancing?" Pearl said shyly.
"Aye, my lit'el cousin Alice likes dancing so... I just picked it up... Yes? And you? If so what's your person's favorite song to dance to?" He stated, no one ever asked him this question before, it was new, his Scottish accent laced quietly in his fake English accent.
He missed Alice, it had only been a few months but it seemed so dreadful without her, it was hard to not be with her every second of every day anymore. He smiled slightly revealing his silver brackets remembering how they would dance in the study room for hours at a time, their favorite song was, World's Smallest Violin by AJR.
"The world's smallest violin
Really needs an audience
So if I do not find somebody soon
I'll blow up into smithereens
And spew my tiny symphony
All up and down a city street
While tryna put my mind at ease
Like finishing this melody
This feels like a necessity
So this could be the death of me
Or maybe just a better me."
Without noticing he hummed the melody smilng all along.
