Butterflies and Blue Goodbyes
None of it felt real until Wynn stepped onto Platform 9 3/4. He had only known the wizarding world through his mum’s bedtime stories, which were always brimming of wonder and veiled in mystery. The Diagon Alley shopping trip felt more like a trip to an amusement park. You could make a moving brick wall with the right machinery, but not an invisible wall. Now, it was tangible, cemented, and he could truly explore the world of magic he could only previously imagine.
His shoes clacked crisply along the tiled floor, the footsteps of him and his parents' echoing throughout the station. Students of all years were boarding the train for as far as the eye could see, with farewells and love-yous being exchanged through the windows.
He held on tighter to his parents’ arms, knowing he would have to be apart from them for a long time. Sure, he'd gone to school before, but he would always get to see his parents at the end of the day. But this was different. Fear quickly overrode his curiosity towards magic, and adding the thought of the nauseous trip and an unfamiliar environment into the mix only made the butterflies in his stomach flutter harder.
“…remember to brush your teeth and wash your face every day, alright? Don’t skip your meals and make sure to eat your tomatoes, too. And…” His mother held both his hands in her palms and smiled. “Don’t worry if you don’t do well in school. Just give it your best and have fun, alright?”
“And remember to write us lots or we’ll get worried, alright Nini? Me and Buttercup will be waiting for you when you get home for Christmas,” added his dad.
He felt like he would burst into tears if he tried to uttered a word, and buried his face in his parents embrace instead, trying his best not to cry. Wynn clung to them tightly before he got “forcefully” peeled away and ushered on the train by his dad. Too shy to go into occupied compartments, he chose an empty one and chose the window seat. He waved as his parents walked away and disappeared from view.
Sitting alone, he had already begun to miss the warmth of his parents’ embrace, his beloved Buttercup in his video game world, and the comforting melodies on his music player. “Raindrops, stardrops, the clouds, won’t stop. My umbrella, hangs by the door…” In an effort to cheer himself up, he quietly started to sing the first song that came to mind.

If Elsian wanted to find him, he'd be able to find him easily as Kim was just going to check out the compartments nearby the area they currently were at. He slid open the compartment door to a few places and gave out some sweets to the inhabitants. Eventually, he approached the one Wynn had chosen. He gave a knock and then slid the compartment door open to reveal one lone inhabitant of the space. "Yo!" Kim said, giving his trademark greeting to the boy inside. "Care for some free sweets? My friend and I made and bought too many to eat ourselves. So we're giving them out to everyone on the train." Kim told the boy inside. He was carrying his enchanted satchel over one shoulder with the gift wrapped sweets inside, along with a variety of other sweets too. Kim had already given out a ton of sweets and Elsian had done so too. But they hadn't covered the entire train yet and intended on spreading their sweets throughout the entire Express. It would be a very elaborate prank that was to be sure. This year's feast would definitely be one that would be talked about for awhile afterward. As long as none of the prefects guessed Kim and Elsian were responsible for the prank, they would be able to escape free of consequences! The white haired boy gave the boy inside the compartment a grin, a friendly look on his face. But it was all an act. An act that was meant to get others to lower their guard and trust them, so they would accept the 'gifts'. However, Kim did realize that the boy inside seemed to be a first year and he couldn't help but be curious about him. What would this one be like? I am including the following information beneath in case you might like to be part of this prank that Elsian and Kim are planning! Plus, I kind of used this as a way for Kim to meet Wynn! The actual thread is found here if you want to read it/post in it later on but for now I'll just be writing in this thread for a time with you! Kim won't stay in the compartment for long, he'll just be dropping by to give out sweets. Unless of course Wynn decides to talk to him and keep him there!
Kim has extreme social anxiety, so doesn't like being around crowded areas for long. As Wynn is the only one currently in the compartment, it's an ideal place for Kim to be.

This is the 1st thread of a 2 part storyline. Both will IC take place on September 1st on the first day back to Hogwarts! A link from this thread onto the 2nd part will be put up later. 1.) The golden rule- Do NOT open the ‘prank cake bundles’ in this thread
In this thread it will become obvious the two boys have 2 different types of sweets they are handing out. The 1st are perfectly normal sweets, both homemade and bought. The boys will ALWAYS offer these first, letting your characters get their fill and chatting before handing you the 2nd type of sweet.
This 2nd ‘sweet’ is a simple box of sweets to share with friends and housemates at the banquet after the sorting of 1st years takes place. This is the bundle you should have NO REASON to open in this 1st thread as the boys already gave you sweets to eat during the train ride.
(keep in mind the train ride is coming to a close when the boys finally hand out sweets so it would be odd for you to open this bundle of sweets either way) (also this is fiction and therefore has plot armor hahahah so don't open it)

2.) Do not godmod knowing about the pranked packages.
Due to Elsian and Kim only handing out non pranked sweets at first, if you are following our golden rule of not opening the prank bundles in this thread you should not know that the bundles are laced with pranked sweets.
This doesn’t mean you can’t write being suspicious of the 2! We welcome your characters trying to get the boys to take a bite of the sweets first due to being suspicious. Granted, nothing will happen.

We’re allowing people to lightly godmod our characters but try to keep the amount respectful. And keep any little quirks we put down in mind when writing. "...a tiny, POM rolls around!" Wynn got a little bit too comfortable in his compartment alone, and got immersed in the song he was singing. Cycling through songs he still remembered how to sing on his playlist, he tried to make the ride enjoyable for himself. Scenery-watching could get a bit repetitive after a while. He didn't have much else to do, having his luggage stored elsewhere. At first it was out of sadness, but as the train ride went on and his spirits lifted gradually, he kept doing it to avoid boredom, and eventually, to keep his mind off how disastrous his social life at Hogwarts would be.
What if he got lost on his first day of class? How long would it take for him to make a friend? Surely there were group projects, maybe he could try and make friends there. But what if he didn't, and had to spend seven years of Hogwarts by himself? Each thought became progressively horrifying to think about, and In the end he circled back to singing. No one entered his compartment, which gave him total freedom to loosen up sing comfortably. Or so he thought.
As he hit the final note, the door to his compartment swung wide open to reveal a white-haired boy carrying a satchel over his back. "Yo!" Care for some free sweets?" Startled and embarrassed, Wynn's cheeks and ears heated up and turned bright red, his words tumbling as he tried to give a reply. "Oh! Uh, ahem, y-yeah, please! Thank you." Trying his best to avoid direct eye contact, Wynn thanked the boy again as he received the sweets he was offered. Putting one in his mouth, his face lit up as the sugary goodness melted on his tongue. "This is so yummy! I've never had anything like this at home," Wynn exclaimed, looking up at the boy.
Wynn lowered his guard he noticed he had unconsciously put up, and stole another look at the boy as he ate another sweet. Judging by his robes that did not look brand new, it should be fine if he asked him about what Hogwarts was like, right? Worst that could happen was getting politely or awkwardly rejected, gaining a cringey memory that would haunt him for the rest of his nights. Yeah, that was fine, he's already had plenty of those from muggle school, what's one more?
Mustering up the nearly non-existent courage in him, he scrambled to get his words out. "Um uh, so, I noticed you don't exactly seem like um, a first year, like me, and I just wanted ask- to ask, if you have time tomaybetellmewhatHogwartsislike–" The more Wynn messed up his words, the more tense he got and the faster he fumbled over his words. His cheeks bright red for the second time today, he hoped he didn't seem excessively weird–more than he had already acted. Wynn held his breath, waiting nervously for the boy's reply.

ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | Soon after he'd entered, Kim couldn't help but smirk. He'd caught the tail end of a high note being sung inside the compartment right before he'd opened the door. Since there was no one else inside but the current occupant, it had to have come from him. The boy wasn't too bad at all and Kim wondered if he sang a lot in his free time. He couldn't help but smirk upon seeing the redness heat up Wynn's cheeks and face. Cute. As the boy took the sweets Kim had offered to him, the white haired Gryffindor watched him with interest as he devoured the item. "Mm. I'm known as the Prince of Sweets in the wizarding world, so if you ever want or need anything sweet, feel free to come find me." Kim told him. Since Wynn had said he hadn't ever tried these types of sweets back at home, Kim assumed he was probably a muggle. Even halfbloods knew about the sweets of the wizarding world, only muggles didn't tend to know. Unless Wynn was an anomaly, but that wasn't likely, at least not from his experience. He let his blue eyes flicker over the first year and noticed that Wynn was staring at him too. But in a more curious manner, which didn't surprise him. He was a first year and nearly all of them tended to be excited and curious about everything all around them at first. Like Ali had said, first years tended to possess 'starry eyes'. A sigh escaped his lips at the thought of running into Ali again but it wasn't as if he could avoid him all the time. Distracted by his thoughts, Kim's attention returned to Wynn again as the boy posed a question. "Hm? Ah, yes. This will be my second year. I'm from Gryffindor House." He told him with a nod and stretched out a hand towards the other boy, to make his introductions. "Kim Aoki. You are?" Kim asked, waiting for Wynn to give him his name. As Wynn went on to ask him about what Hogwarts was like, he ended up stumbling over his words and stringing them all together. "Cute." Kim remarked, a little amused. Maybe he'd nickname him Cutie from now on. It definitely fit him. Kim glanced over his shoulder to check on Elsian's progress. He still seemed occupied with Sam and the compartments around him. The white haired boy would have some time. Coming into the compartment, Kim slid the door closed behind him and took a seat on the opposite side of the small space. "What do you want to know about it?" He asked, curious as to what Wynn had in mind when he'd asked the question before. There was a lot of information he could give him but it all depended on what was his priority. That was when an idea came. This could be the perfect time to recruit for the clubs he owned! Not to mention the ones he was co-leader of too. He'd asked after introductions were made and the boy told him what he was most interested in knowing about right now. Prince of Sweets? Wynn's ear perked up at the boy's alias. The sweets he gave him tasted heavenly, maybe even the best in the world. Of course, Wynn didn't have a lot of other samples to compare it to. "You can have them when you're older, alright? It's not good to eat too much candy." That was the sentence his mother had always told him whenever he brought up the subject of sweets, before changing the subject as soon as possible. Prior to leaving his house, his mother made him promise to not buy anything sweet from the trolley, but this one was free, so he was probably in the clear.
The boy, who had just introduced himself as Kim Aoki, reached out to offer a handshake, to which Wynn quickly accepted, not wanting to be rude. "My name is Wynn Wen! Mum doesn't like me eating sweets, but maybe when I'm older she'll let me buy them more often," Wynn said softly, still a bit shy around the white-haired boy he had just met.
As Kim closed the door and sat down beside him, all his worries that he had accumulated during the ride spilt out like a flowing river.
"Do they give out maps? What if still can't find my classroom with a map? Do I get penalties for arriving late like muggle school? Are there any group projects? What if I can't find anyone for a group project? How friendly are people? Do we have to join clubs?" Wynn paused for a brief moment before continuing in a quieter voice. "What if I can't make any friends?"
That was the question that plagued his sleepless nights. He faced the same worry when his parents sent him to muggle school. Thankfully, he got lucky with his two primary school friends approaching him first, so he wasn't completely alone. But no one could guarantee the same would happen in Hogwarts. What if no one talked to him first? He'd have to make the first move, but what would he even talk about? The weather? His in-game pets? His heart shriveled at the thought of having to be the one to initiate conversations, and his face scrunched together.

ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | Kim had some good feelings about this one. After all, Wynn seemed as if he was a fellow sweet lover, which in turn made him gain lots of points with him. "Mm. Sweets are bad for your teeth and health if you have too many at a time. But in moderation they are just fine and some of them can even have good health benefits too. Like dark chocolate!" Kim told him with a nod, knowing a ton about sweets. "She's probably just worried about your teeth, stomach or both. Heh, maybe even about you spending any money you might get on sweets instead of more valuable or useful things too." He added as an afterthought. Kim was actually quite talkative for once. The white haired boy wasn't usually like this but when it came to sweets, it was a whole different story. Kim could talk for ages about sweets in general, baking or cooking also fell into this category. It was something he'd always loved all his life and he was the envy of various people when they discovered his unique condition. Where Kim and certain members of his family had some kind of genetics where you never gained weight from eating or drinking things, no matter what they might be. "Well, if you can't buy sweets for awhile, there's an easy solution." He paused and then told him the answer. "You can always come find me and I'll hook you up!" Kim said with a smirk. As soon as he'd taken a seat, Wynn suddenly exploded with a ton of questions and he grinned at him. "There are certain 'unique' maps you can get at Hogwarts. But not through legal means." Kim said mysteriously, liking to tease the newbies. "But no general maps that are given out, no. Students usually tend to explore the castle on their own, or with friends. If you ever want to explore, send me an owl and we could do it together sometime!" He said, letting his blue eyes flicker over Wynn. The boy was growing on him. Kim couldn't help but be reminded of the vibe he'd gotten when he'd first met Katelynn on the train during his first year ride. He kind of wanted to look out for this one, to be his mentor. Of course, just because he was feeling like this didn't mean he was not going to prank Wynn. But he'd still look out for him just the same. "When you get sorted, a prefect will come along and tell you everything you need to know. They will also show you to your dorm. Any questions you may have can be answered by them." Kim told him. Maybe he'd be in his House. All the Houses were great. But Kim was rather partial to Ravenclaw for various reasons. There were actually three particular reasons. One. He identified more with Ravenclaw than with any of the other Houses. Two. Sophia was there. Three. Bailey was there. "If you get into my House, Gryffindor, Evelynn Decipio is a great prefect. Ravenclaw also has a good one called Samantha Salwis. Cassandra Ironwoods does her House proud in Slytherin and Hufflepuff has the nice Simon Kincaid. Those are the ones I'd recommend for you, depending on what House you get into." Kim told him. "As for clubs, clubs are optional for students." The boy said. "But I would definitely recommend you joining some of them. They are the best way to get to know others and to open the door to make friends." Kim told him. "Even if you don't want to make friends, they are a great way to pass the time and learn about some fun things. It's why I join them all the time. I actually run 5 clubs of my own and am the co-leader of 3 others. All of them are looking for new members to join, so it would be great if you joined some of them!" Kim said with a smile to Wynn. Recruitment time! It was the time to reel him in, so that he could get some new members for his own clubs! "I run the Tri-Cook Club (TCC), Fashion Club, Blindfolded Club, Clumsy Club and Mafia Club. I'm the co-leader of the Martial Artist, Peaceful Minds and Drama Clubs as well. The TCC is a cooking club, the Blindfolded Club is a touch an item and guess what it is kind of club, the Clumsy Club is a place to discuss anything clumsy you've done and the Mafia Club is where we gather to play tactical games relating to the main concept. The Fashion Club is where we create/design & model clothes." "As for the ones I'm co-leader of... the Martial Artist Club is a place to learn and practice martial arts with others, the Peaceful Minds Club we practice yoga and mind calming techniques and the Drama Club is similar to the Theatre Club where we do acting and behind the scenes work. All of them are looking for new members, my clubs and the ones I co-lead, so it would be awesome if you wanted to join any or all of them!" Kim said with another smile. He was smiling a lot today, which was a rarity. But it was because of the sweets conversation and the clubs. It wasn't something Wynn would see often. "Even if you can't make any friends, you can always send an owl to me if you ever want to chat or have any questions." Kim told him. "But I don't think making friends will be a problem for you! People will be all over you!" He said with a nod, trying to reassure Wynn but at the same time he believed his words to be true. Wynn gave off the same vibes as Taizu and Taizu was pretty popular. Was that too many at once? Wynn couldn’t stop his questions once they gained momentum, and he worried that Kim would find him troublesome. The concern quickly dissipated as Kim grinned and patiently answered his troubles one by one.
“…If you ever want to explore, send me an owl and we could do it together sometime!" exclaimed Kim.
A tiny gasp escaped Wynn’s lips. “I would like that!” he said, slightly more audible than his previous sentence. He would be so much more comfortable to familiarize himself with Hogwarts with someone he knows. The last thing he would want was to be utterly lost with no one to ask for directions.
Wynn made mental notes of all the prefects Kim had listed (though if he would actually remember them later was another matter), and nodded to indicate that he was listening. His muggle teacher had told him that letting the speaker know that you were paying attention through small bodily cues was a form of respect, and while Wynn wasn’t sure if that stayed true in the wizarding world, he did it all the same.
Kim moved on to explain clubs, to which he listened with great intent. Two that had piqued his interest in particular were the theatre club and the Tri-cook club.
Several of his favorite content creators were a part of their school’s theater club, and having gained knowledge and experience on performance-related aspects, they proceeded to introduce their audiences to the magical world of musicals and dramas. Hamilton was a personal favorite of his. Wynn could never be like them though—he was far too shy for that, but if he weren’t so afraid of the limelight…
Although he had no actual experience in neither cooking nor baking (his mum usually did most of the work), the Tri-cook club appealed to him. After all, if he knew how to bake sweets himself, he wouldn’t need to buy them.
He also thought about how amazing Kim was: he was only a year older than him, but he was already able to run and manage several different clubs, meanwhile Wynn would have trouble organizing his own daily agenda. He'd often make plans but not follow through with them, leaving tasks till the last minute.
As he got a little lost in his thoughts, Kim asked a question that pulled him back to reality. "No! Well, uh, kinda? My mum's a witch but my dad's a Muggle. I haven't spent a lot of time in the magical world though, so I don't know much about it," Wynn mumbled.
Kim probably thought it was strange for a wizard to know so little about his own world. Even though his parents would often encourage him to learn about both sides, he was always a bit more partial to the muggle world, simply due to the fact that it gave him more common topics to chat about at muggle school. Not to mention all the phenomenal games, music, and comics that captivated his heart, found on the Internet, something he was told you couldn't access at Hogwarts.
"Is that...is that weird?" Wynn asked, timidly.

ㅤ──────────────────────| ── | Yup, it was official. Wynn was the new Taizu of the first years this year and once again, Kim would take someone under his wing. It would be great if Wynn ended up in his House too. It would be a fun scene to have the two of them meet up in the dorms. Maybe he'd even become Taizu's friend too. As Wynn quickly expressed his interest in exploring together with him, Kim's lips twitched with amusement. Well, wasn't he full of energy! As Wynn went on to explain that he wasn't a muggle but also wasn't a wizard-born or pureblood either, Kim nodded. Right, he'd forgotten about half-bloods. "Well, you've got to taste some of the sweets we have." The boy told him. "There are so many!" "Chocoballs are my favorite but chocolate frogs are awesome for a quick snack of something sweet when you're craving for a nibble. There's also a variety of other types. I'll introduce you to them all later." Kim said, lighting up when it came to sweets. When Wynn timidly asked if it was weird he didn't know much about the wizarding world, even though he was a half-blood, Kim shook his head. "It's fine! Some half-bloods are like that actually but it's pretty easy to get accustomed to the wizarding world." He told the other. "Well, once you're living in it that is." He told him. "Want to try some more?" Kim asked and produced a sugar quill for him, out of his collection. "It's shaped like a quill but it's made of spun sugar. It looks like the real thing so much that you can bring it to class and pretend to be writing notes down. But instead of taking notes you can just snack on your quill without the teacher noticing you doing so." He told him with a smirk. "This one is a chocolate frog box. Not only does it have a chocolate frog inside you can devour, it also has a chocolate frog card you can collect too. You can trade it with other people for other cards as well." "Watch out though, there's an enchantment placed on the frog that makes it appear as if it's alive. But don't worry, it's not alive." Kim warned Wynn. "I also have some other homemade goodies too. As you probably already guessed, I tend to bake and cook all the time." He told him with a smile, already feeling more at ease around him. Well, it kind of helped that there was no one else inside the compartment other than him and Wynn. Kim would probably head out if more people started coming into the area. Until then he'd chill. Being with Wynn was nice. He seemed like a very cool first year and Kim was looking forward to seeing him around the castle later. ────────────────────── ㅤ ㅤ──────────────────────

Wynn was gradually warming up to Kim, even if he didn't really notice it himself.
His heartbeat calmed down, and his voice was slowly returning to a normal volume. He however still felt quite tense, trying his best not to let his body language show his awkwardness (which really just had the opposite effect).
Hearing Kim describe all the different sweets made him think of the convenience store near his home. They always had a delectable assortment of chocolates and candy on their racks. Chocoballs reminded him of the, well, chocolate balls, that Ben secretly shared with him once, before his mum found out and scolded them both.
It really does look like a quill, Wynn thought as he tried the sugar quill Kim gave to him, and couldn’t stop a little ‘mm’ from escaping his lips. The sweet confection melted the moment it touched the tip of his tongue. He wondered if this was what cotton candy tasted like. Kim then handed him a pentagonal-pyramid-shaped box, calling it a chocolate frog box. The purple and gold box felt nice to hold, adorned with patterns far too intricate for just a packaging, making Wynn reluctant to open it. It probably wouldn't melt since it's from the magical world, right? "I think I'll save this for later," Wynn murmured, delicately holding the box with both his hands. Surely it would go well with milk tea, if he could find any at Hogwarts.
Kim only seemed to be more incredible the more Wynn learnt about him. "That's amazing!" He marveled when the white-haired boy confirmed his proficiency in baking and cooking. "I've only made cookies before, and even then my mum did most of the work..." Wynn trailed off with a faint blush tinting the tip of his ears. His mother had only allowed him to mix and cut the cookie dough: she had taken care of the rest of the steps herself as she deemed them to be too dangerous for Wynn. He still couldn't understand why his mum was so hesitant to let him use the oven, it wasn't like he would burn down the kitchen! She had also taken away the sugar in the recipes, saying that the chocolate chips would be sweet enough, which in this case Wynn wholeheartedly agreed. It was also probably why he wasn't allowed to bake cookies often.
He hoped the train would take a little bit longer to arrive at its destination.

"I'm sure you did your fair share of the work. Even if you didn't, you at least paid attention to what your mum was doing, right? So, if you want, we could make some cookies together sometime! I can show you and Bailey also is proficient at baking, she's one of my best friends here and quite the ray of sunshine." He told him with a twitch of his lips. "I can't wait to see what House you're going to get sorted into later tonight when we get to Hogwarts. It would be great if it's in mine. I could show you around the dorms and help get you settled if you wanted. But if you're in a different House, I can't help out much, unless it's outside of the dorms. We're not allowed enter the dorms of other Houses. I think there's some kind of enchantment that prevents us from doing so." Kim told Wynn. It was such a shame. A real shame. If it was physically possible and just against the rules, Kim would have found a way to infiltrate. But anything short of using a Polyjuice Potion would not work, and even that was risky. Still, it was a rather tempting idea. Kim shook his head, trying to banish such thoughts from his head, he didn't want to think about it because he might end up obsessing over it later on if he gave it too much thought. "So tell me, Win. What's the first thing you want to do after getting sorted?" He asked, curious. Yes, he'd come up with a nickname for him already.
