Well, at least there remained some sense in the Beauxbatons-returned-Hogwarts. A sense of relief followed Ivy's immediate action to lower the glass, apparently taking Evelynn's question at face value as a warning—just as it had intended to be. If there was one thing the prefect could appreciate, it was a level of unspoken trust where caution would be met with unquestioning acceptance at least until explanation could be provided.

"Well..." A breathy chuckle reverberated in Evelynn's throat, trapped by closed lips. Her pace slowed as she approached, eventually coming to a stop on the side of Marshal opposite Ivy. "In truth.." she began, brows furrowing as her gaze turned outwards. It was a topic of conversation that really had not been broached since that last Spring Ball. Memories remained blurred and half formed, and she still could not quite trust what, if any of it, was true. It was as though she had closed her eyes at one point and dreamed of having attended, waking up the next morning as though it had never really happened.

"That is part of the problem," she uttered stiffly, lips pursing to reflect her discomfort with the subject. "I cannot entirely remember what happened. Really, if I did not know any better from the accounts of others, I might question if I had attended at all. I have a vague recollection of competing in the trials, and then seeking refreshment before.."

She shook her head and turned back to Ivy. "I would simply be wary of what you consume. Perhaps it was just some students having a laugh, but I tend—now—to make sure I have observed others consume something without negative impact before I partake myself."

"You appear fatigued.." Evelynn noted, glancing to the girl's hand as it combed idly through her hair. The air of revelry had certainly died as well, perhaps at fault of her own for the shift in conversation. "Are you feeling ready to retire?"

She wouldn't necessarily be able to reflect those same sentiments, herself. First Marion.. Then the altercation with Burnett... Evelynn's mind was already whirling in a corner of its own, blood pumping with her eagerness to follow-up with what had happened. There would be little sleep tonight, likely. She was already feeling compelled to trace back through old events to see if any patterns or occurrences had gone mistakenly ignored. But if her friends were ready to take their leave, she would oblige them and depart alongside.

He was so focused on Enzo, that he almost forget the real date he should be paying attention to. Pea. And the pain of realizing that would be evident on his face when she concluded that she wanted to leave. “Uh-w-wait” the tension in his voice can’t be denied and neither did his hand when they were close to grasping Pea’s wrist but he pulled it back. “ um.. Okay… I’ll wait here until you come back..” he sheepishly said, somewhat guilty for letting Enzo get to him. Okay, bad news, his date is close to leaving him. The good news, is he can finally show Enzo a piece of his mind.

Hana kept his facade long enough until he saw Pea a good distance away. Unable to be patient longer, his eyes targetted Enzo. Filled with the same distaste that they previously had. “ Your talent of pissing me off never ceases to amaze me.” he gave Delacroix the side eye, though trying to keep a neutral face, his tone definitely held obvious sarcasm.

"Hey, thanks for making me look like a jealous loser. Now, look what you did! You’re going to ruin my plans- erm- our plans.” He corrected “ ahem, our plans. Me and Fowl. Cause we were planning to have a good night. Went well before you showed your face. As much as I’d love a rematch from our last duel, I have an image to maintain in front of Pea. So if you don’t mind, why don’t you name your price? Leave us alone and you get something in return, how's that? “ striking deals- something he’s more familiar with. At least it was easier than acting like he was in love with Fowl. He didn't like the idea of needing to owe Delacroix anything. Not one bit.

But he wasn't blind. Clearly, Pea was (only in terms on attractiveness ) quite stunning as a matter of fact. (how does her hair move a lot even when there's no wind???) And the french boy he’s um… not bad. Hana wouldn’t mindlessly flirt with just anyone. He wasn’t sure if this sense of jealousy was directed towards one of them but leaving the two of them together- alone - set alarms in his head.

Jeez I get she's pretty but you would really go through me to get to her? How cute” Thinking this, his frustration evidently left his face, replaced with a coy smile Delacroix was most likely used to. “ Hmm~ Or is it not her you're after..“ Hanako stepped closer, his head slightly tilted to an angle where he could fully appreciate Delacroix's features. “..but someone... else? “ he playfully said in an almost foreign gentle whisper. The french boy may have to come a bit closer to even hear it, but the sly smile Hanako plastered on his face may leave the boy enough to imagine.

Would this be the real reason this boy kept getting in the way of Hanako’s dates?

Enzo's eyes followed Miss Fowl as she excused herself from the scene. It wasn't until Hanako had spoken up to him did Enzo finally turn and meet his gaze. 'Why thank you. You are too kind" Enzo replied, his mouth upturned in a crooked smile showcasing the full extent of his arrogance.

Well well well, as if it couldn't get any better, Hanako then attempted to strike a deal. It really was shaping up to be a successful night. "Firstly, I did not ruin anything, we were only having a friendly chat, what's so wrong about that? Secondly, if you are that desperate for me to back off, I'll entertain your deal, but we will leave it as you owe me. That way I can cash it in whenever and wherever I see fit" Enzo responded dryly, though the thought of being owed only added to his current level of smugness. But, if they were to go through with this so-called 'deal', it would be on Enzo's terms, he would make that very clear.

A small chuckle left Enzo as Miss Fowl was brought up. The question that was posed to him was rather funny because if he had indeed wanted Miss Fowl, he would - without hesitation - go through whomever.
Though not long after would Enzo receive a slight knock to his ego. Something that strangely through him off. He had certainly not expected to see the side of Hanako that had been sort of hidden since that day at the summer duel. The side that had intrigued Enzo in the first place. Maybe it was that coy smile, or the fact that he took a step closer, or even how his tone of voice seemed to change, but something made Enzo stop in his tracks. He turned his head slightly, breaking eye contact and staring at the ground as if it was the most interesting thing he had ever seen in his life. For the first time today, Enzo was quiet. No rebuttal (as of yet), no smirk, nothing. What the hell? Of course, he wasn't after anyone. The reason he was doing all this was to have an interesting night at this school event, nothing more, nothing less.

Unsure why he was so taken aback, Enzo cleared his throat, attempting to regain his previous composure. Enzo would then lean forward slightly and responded in a similarly hushed tone. "Not. a. chance." He finally replied, his gaze then lifting, and returning to meet Hanako's as he stepped back.

"Now, do we have a deal or not?" Enzo would revisit their conversation from before, hoping that whatever had happened to him at that moment would go unnoticed and forgotten.

Parseltongue

By the entirety of Enzo talking, Hanako wouldn’t move from his spot. What’s a little close contact if you could show that you couldn’t be less bothered by it? Body language showed much more than what is said verbally. The last thing Hanako wanted Delacroix to think is that he was anything but bold. Confidence is key, right?

It took everything not to roll his eyes when Enzo mentioned he didn’t ruin anything. Puhlease. If Hana didn’t attack him with a flower crown, who knows what would’ve happened? Imagining Pea and Enzo’s smitten faces was making him uncomfortably irritated. Surely, because Enzo would’ve been on a way to snatch her from Hana’s grasps if he wasn’t stopped.

Delacroix’s lack of questions, at the very least- pleased Hanako. Perhaps he played this ‘love-sick puppy’ act a bit too well that Delacroix didn’t even need to ask why. In fact, he seemed amused at it by the way he laughed when Hana questioned if he was into Pea. Hana could only guess what was so funny, but knowing him it wasn’t anything good. That was the extent of him not being confused, for Enzo sorta threw him off too.

Humour was special to Hanako. A way to pass the time, a shield and a sword. Protect the fragile ego, or make others suffer. He had met Delacroix by exchanging playful banters while hoping the other would be the target of one another's spells. When Hana played this little joke, he was expecting something in return. A snide retort, a pearl of laughter, heck, a raised wand maybe if Delacroix was more on the wild side. Not this unnerving silence. Why is this unnerving, anyway? Unmoving from his spot, he attempted his best to keep up a neutral expression, uneager to have the boy know his odd silence had affected him this much.

Like- did he suddenly get cursed? Sick or something? He wouldn’t think a bit of teasing would induce some sort of traumatic memory for the boy. While he wished to remain unbothered, he wouldn’t be able to keep up with his coy smile a while longer. Jeez, Delacroix is a piece of work but Hanako never intended to make his brain malfunction. Hanako’s train of thought was something along the lines of ‘what the hell is wrong with this cocky kid’, but that was merely a response to concern. The word ‘concern’ didn’t come to mind at first, simply because it held a certain connotation if used. To say ‘concern’, would be implied that Hanako somewhat cared for the boy. And all of his instinct immediately refused such a ridiculous notion.

But while he mentally refused to use that word, his body language said something else. With a raised eyebrow, he leaned just slightly closer to the boy. And before he could even realize what he was doing, Delacroix turned back to him so quickly it almost made Hana jump back. Hanako’s heart was by all means, not appreciative of the fright. Like hello? Where was the warning?

And because of that, his mind was in a slight frenzy, and yet he refused to move away from the boy. Now that they were up so close, Enzo’s deep blue eyes were suddenly the topic of intrigue for Hanako. It was near impossible to look away without showing weakness, but Hanako knew what was coming next if he didn’t distract himself. A full hit of the most powerful fliependos seemed preferable compared to finding nice things to think about Delacroix’s eyes. There was something that saved him, thankfully. He realized later on that it was no better than noticing the french boy's eyes, but at the moment he was trying his hardest to be entranced by the sudden whiff of faint fragrance. Floral.

'Now, this was the perfect thing to be distracted by', he thought at first. Apart from being an appreciator of beauty, Hanako was rather fond of the scents of flowers. Like, duh. This was a flower ball. Of course, he should be smelling flowery stuff. Soon, he found it easier to look into Delacroix's eyes again, the unfamiliar scent being an anchor for his stability. While Enzo was yapping about how he’d never take interest in Hanako, the Japanese boy was too busy figuring out what precisely this floral scent was. Jasmines? Lily of the Valleys? Daffodils? It seemed like a notable challenge for the boy to figure out. It was difficult to pretend he didn’t hear the boy’s whisper. Whispers were supposed to be hard to hear, almost near silent. But with the distance between them, Hanako could hear it a bit too loud and clear.

Perhaps having enough of the lack of space between them, Enzo reached a good step away from Hanako, who followed suit. "Now, do we have a deal or not?"

Hanako pursed his lips and looked up to the skies in deep thought. Having no idea what his favor could be immensely dangerous in the future, and clearly, Hanako wasn’t too fond of it. But was there really another choice? This wasn’t the best place to negotiate terms, and it seemed like the other boy had his mind set on this deal. With very little time as well, there was little Hanako could do. His slight frustration was behind by the sly grin he showed the other boy.

As if conveniently forgetting how close of a position they were just now, Hanako retook the empty space between them. Like a friend who was merely concerned about the dust collecting on his buddy’s shoulders, he stepped dangerously close to the boy unconcerned about their close proximity. Once done, his hands with the gentlest movement, pulled the hem of Delacroix’s collar closer. Enzo had the full strength to push him off if he wanted to of course. But before he did, Hanako angled his head right next to Enzo’s right ear. What the french boy would hear next is a few short words before Hanako pulled away in a flash:

It’s a deal, Delacroix

The words hissed out slow and steady, as if Hanako only wanted Delacroix to hear and no one else. Whispering in parseltongue certainly was something else. There was barely a difference between hissing and whispering. It was a language that had you pressing a certain syllabus a bit too long at times. What may have been a short sentence in English, felt longer in Parseltongue. Or it was purposely slow as revenge for giving Hana's heart a fright earlier. Why Hanako did such a thing instead was up to Enzo to decide as he would not be getting an explanation. But it seemed to have good enough reason for Hanako to pull back with a satisfied smile.

Glad we had that talk. Hope you find another date that's in need of a good ruin~” With a last pat on the younger boy’s shoulder, Hanako strode away, content that at least this cocky french boy wasn’t going to get in the way.

The rather dramatic way of accepting Enzo’s deal with essential. Hanako had little time and he didn’t want to be seen like he had agreed with Enzo on something. Pea was nowhere to be seen but who knows she might be watching. By using a language only they understood, it was another meaning for, ‘ Reveal this to anyone, and you’re dead'. But hey, at least he was out of the way now.

While being on the way where he thought Pea was headed, something bothered him. Where was that floral scent he smelled earlier? There was an abundance of floral fragrance everywhere he went but the one that anchored him to stay his ground earlier suddenly disappeared. It can be overwhelming with floral scents, but the one earlier had a distinct calming effect on the boy that he was disappointed it wasn’t there anymore.

Time to backtrack. So he was feeling overwhelmed when Delacroix and he were mere centimeters away from each other. Hana didn’t want to think the french boy’s eyes were attractive. Suddenly out of nowhere the lovely scent came to his senses and calmed him down. And when he was done with the deal, he left. The only thing that changed was either his area or how close he was to Delac-

That. He. He will never talk about that. Ever. This will be one of the many things he takes to his grave.

The last thing he thought on the matter was that he should’ve just thought Enzo’s eyes looked pretty and be done with it. Urghghhh, clearly- he was too stressed to even know what he was doing. Alongside the faint splash of red that spread all the way from his cheeks to the tip of his ears, he was swallowed by a massive wave of disappointment in himself and his whole entire being. The memories of Alec and him agreeing that Enzo wasn't good enough for Hana came to mind. That's right. All he needed to do was repeat that over and over again and this small ahem- mishap will magically go away.

Their dance was amazing, even if not the most perfectly executed technique from either of them - thankfully Aaron didn't step on any toes this time (although Aly did, Aaron brushed it off like it hardly phased him, even if it had hurt quite a bit with her heels) - they both had a great time. There was nice conversation and laughter and butterflies. By the time their dance ended because of a change in song, Aaron found himself wishing they could be in that moment for a while longer. But then Aly did something that completely caught him off guard by kissing his cheek. This was the second time a girl had kissed his cheek, but the first time that he knew exactly what it meant and was actually happy about the action. "You are too, Aly," Aaron said, returning the compliment with a warm smile on his own blushing face. They separated from their dancing position as others on the dance floor shifted around them, either leaving or passing by to shift for the next song. But Aaron reached forward and took Aly's hand, intertwining their fingers when she accepted the action.

It was different from holding her hand during the dance, this felt much more intentional - no purpose behind it other than simply wanting to hold her hand. It felt nice. "Do you want to grab some food?" Aaron asked, the warm smile still on his face. From that point on, they were holding hands for most of the evening. Whether they were waiting in line to grab some food, or when they went back to dancing some more, or found some friends to talk to. Aaron couldn't even think about being any happier than he was that evening with Aly constantly by his side.

When the night finally ended and they walked back into the castle with the rest of the crowds, Aaron and Aly found themselves alone at one point. They cutely stumbled over a conversation where they both seemed to ask the same question. The Hufflepuff third year went back to his dorm that evening knowing he had won the jackpot for being able to call Aly Salinger his girlfriend from that night forward.
TL;DR: summarizing the rest of Aaron's evening with Aly
