Continuing a fixed group convo from The Hufflepuff Table. If I missed something or mixed up the "timeline" too much etc. do tell! I tried to make this somewhat coherent, hope I succeeded.

"I think it's different for different families what you do before school? I know some people go to public muggle schools and others are just taught at home. Since we didn't get into town all that often I went to muggle school; had to take the school bus and everything. ... I think it was good for me though! Get to talk to people outside of my own family and all that. I don't really know all that much about the history or logical side of magic since my family only ever used it casually. We can learn everything together if you want!"
Illusia was coming to the conclusion that the student was quite talkative. Not like that was a bad thing in her book, though. Illusia was quite chatty herself. She was also relieved to hear that their histories were not that different after all, even if Tesla had wizard parents.

"Oh, I'd love to!" Illusia agreed immediately. She was winning if she'd already found a student who she could stick with. Tesla introduced herself again and said:
"I'm so happy I'm in Hufflepuff! I was hoping I'd get into the friendliest house!" Illusia smiled. Tesla felt like sunshine.

Then Illusia heard the girl called Aurora had also attended a muggle school. Illusia's mouth opened in delight. These were people who she could actually relate to!
"Everyone calls me Ro, though. How much do you know about the Wizarding World?”
"W-well, I've read through all the school books already", Illusia said, wanting to first establish that she wasn't completely ignorant.
"Some things were quite impossible to figure out by myself, though. My parents are muggles."

Reading had presented her with some information she could've done without, like the fact that until quite recently, it had been a big debate whether muggle-born witches and wizards should be allowed to study at Hogwarts. Apparently, some were still of the opinion that only pure-bloods should have that privilege. On the other hand, it was good to know these things in advance if she was unfortunate enough to meet such people.

Illusia glanced discreetly at the third girl. Tesla had questioned whether she was from a pure-blood family. She definitely had a different aura about her. Although, Illusia hadn't met any other people that she assumed were pure-bloods, so whether she could link this to some consensus that pure-bloods conducted themselves differently, she didn't know.

Isadora's answer to Tesla's question had surprised Illusia. At the same time, it excited her to not be as far behind from her peers as she'd originally thought.
"Well, I can't claim to know much either, but I can already tell I'm going to like Charms. It seems like the core of magic, almost. What subjects are you three looking forward to the most? I don't really feel like I have a personal inclination for any of them."

"I," I began. "Cannot WAIT for Care of Magical Creatures! I love animals, but sadly, I can't take that course until 3rd year, I hear. I'm also looking forward to Defense Against the Dark Arts. I think that it'll be pretty great to do magic like that." I personally thought that doing magic and learning about it, in general, would be pretty cool. I didn't know how I felt about potions, though, honestly. I wasn't good at COOKING, so I wasn't sure how a girl who burns water can successfully create a potion. And then I thought about what Tesla had said, about being happy to be in Hufflepuff. How had I felt when I was sorted? What house had I wanted to be sorted into? Well, by the Sorting Hat's song, maybe Gryffindor was at the top. But, if I HAD been sorted into the friendliest house, then there was no denying that I was happy to be a Hufflepuff too! There were many weird things that had happened on the way here, but many were good. It was amazing, to learn that I was a wizard, and I realized how dull my life would've been if I hadn't. Plus, I was already making new friends!

Sorry I missed this at first! Thanks for setting it up Illusia! I tried to read back through what we had, but I probably missed some stuff.

Tesla listened carefully to everyone talking about their families and where they've come from."Isadora and I will have to teach you what we know about the wizarding world! Although she probably knows more than me, so I could really learn from her too. I can't say I've ever read a single history book outside of what I have to for school, so Illusia actually probably knows a lot more than me even... I could probably tell you all about a lot of creatures magical or muggle though. It's the only thing I ever really read about. The good news is none of us know any magic, so at least we all start the same there!" Tesla grinned happily, hoping she could try to comfort some of the girls with less experience in the wizarding world. Illusia especially seemed kind of worried. After all! She read about the wizarding world all on her own! Tesla didn't even do that when her mums tried to sit her down and make her.

Tesla turned to Ro, gasping with excitement, "I am SO excited for Care of Magical Creatures. You have no idea how sad I was when I found out it was a third year course. I think charms will be good though, most of those spells can be used day to day which I'm excited about," Tesla grimaced a bit, "I think the spells Defense Against the Dark Arts will be cool but I am a little worried about some of the lessons. My family has kind of a different outlook on some stuff... But I don't think there should be any issues!" Tesla perked up a bit, "Oh! I hope we can all be friends though! I bet we'll see a lot of each other in the common room and classes anyways! Maybe once we learn some fun spells we can duel or something cool!"

Tesla glanced at her empty plate, and back at the food in the middle of the table. She'd already eaten more than enough food for someone her age, but she was just so excited she couldn't help but shovel a few more pieces of barely cooked rare beef she'd been eying the whole time, but hadn't grabbed until she'd eaten all the other more exciting foods. "What classes are you all worried about? Maybe we can work on them together sometime! I'm really worried about history since it'll be a ton of studying and I'm not sure I can remember all that." Tesla started stuffing her mouth full of food, figuring it was time for her to shut up and listen for a bit. Besides, that wasn't such a hard choice when she had something great to do anyways. Like eat.

Tesla suggests dueling, and Dora involuntarily recoils a little. She quickly straightens her spine and hopes no one noticed. Then the talkative girl goes on to ask what classes everyone is most worried about.

Classes that Dora is worried about? Most of them. Learning magic poses the risk of embarrasing herself in front of a class full of her peers. And given that she's already failing to keep a low-profile, it will be even more difficult to go unnoticed. What happens if her wand doesn't cooperate? What will her grandmother she gets bad marks?

It's ironic that Tesla seems so wary about History of Magic, as that's the class Dora is the least nervous about. There will surely be a minimum of wand-waving in that class, and she's a pretty good reader. And Ro spoke of Defense Against the Dark Arts as an exciting class, but to Dora it sounds frightening. On one hand, she's heard stories of when the Professor position of that subject had been cursed by the Dark Lord. It isn't supposed to be anymore, but the class looks like it deals with all manner of dark topics. Defense or not, fighting isn't something Dora ever wants to do.

She feels the girls' eyes land on her, as if it's her turn to say something. But she knows well enough not to admit to any nervousness, so she searches for a non-answer. "As long as you study enough, I'm sure you'll be fine." She replies to Tesla. Dora's plate is half-empty. Once she's done, she'll excuse herself discreetly and go to the Common Room.

Love this thread! I suppose this is still the Welcome Feast on September 1st. If we do any new interactions in this thread (different rps on different days) we should date them!

Should we talk about the fall ball in this thread as well? September 1st seems pretty far from the ball but setting up a new thing for everything would be a bit much in my opinion. Or we could start RPing another day at the table, like Isadora suggested! : )

Illusia had read the basic wizard history. Defense Against the Dark Arts almost frightened her as a concept, but not learning those skills in class would've been even worse. It was just a challenge among the many she was forced to face at Hogwarts. And to be fair, she was a bit curious about duelling.

She listened to Tesla talk about the class. Her family? She hoped she'd have the opportunity to ask about that later. It hadn't come to her mind that wizard families probably had just as many different political views as muggles did. The idea of politics on dragons, for example, still sounded a bit weird to her though.

"I think it's funny that Defense Against the Dark Arts starts during the first year, but we only get to Magical Creatures in the third", she thought out loud. How scary could magical creatures be compared to torturing spells?
"I would've liked Care of Magical Creatures during the first year too. But, well! I'd love to study for the other subjects with you in the meantime."

She thought about Tesla's words for a moment longer.
"We're allowed to duel by ourselves right? It would certainly give an advantage in class if we practiced between just us", she grinned.
"I've read about Hogwarts so much already that I can definitely find an empty room for us to use once we've learned some spells." Illusia observed Isadora's face go sour when they started talking about duelling. Suddenly she felt self-conscious. Maybe Isadora knew better?

Despite the little status difference Illusia felt with the girl – which she wouldn't have liked to exist, but what could she do – she believed she could persuade almost any person she set out to include in her ventures. She would see in the future if Isadora was resistant to her wheedling and pestering. It would be nice to include her, even if Illusia was a teeny bit intimidated. At the very least she wouldn't lose anything for being rejected, she didn't know Isadora that well yet.

"Speaking of reading and studying, I'm confident with the history!" Illusia said, directing her words especially to Tesla.
"It's like reading my muggle schoolbooks, a lot to remember, but pretty straightforward. I'm not suggesting you guys to try going without reading the book at all, that would just be dumb, but come find me when it's time to do homework. I have you covered." Illusia lifted up her chin proudly, smiling.
"I'm going to the library soon to find more reading, actually. " Was that bragging?
"I already think I won't like Astrology or Herbology that much, but I'll figure that out when I read more."

Hi y'all! Sorry for the wait on my post! I'm labeling the first part of my post for September 1, and it'll be for Tesla leaving the table. I'll write the second part of my post for October 1, where we can talk about if we're going to the ball.
Date and Time: September 1 Welcome Feast

Tesla was happy she'd found this group of people! She'd expressed her concerns about history, and it sounded like Illusia and Isadora were more comfortable in the subjects she was less comfortable in. Tesla reminded herself to ask in the future if the four of them could study together. For now, she'd just stick with the conversation they were already having. "I heard there was a dueling club you could practice in! We can check it out, it should be perfectly safe," Tesla glanced at Isadora, noticing her hesitation about the idea, "But only if you want. Maybe we could just use it for practicing new spells."

Tesla looked down at her cleared plate, yawning. "I'll see you all in the common room or the dorms right? I think I'm gonna go ahead and hit they hay. If anyone wants to walk with me I'm planning on following a couple of the older students to the dorm!" Tesla gestured at a group of older students getting up from the table, getting up as well and trying to catch their attention for help back to the dorm, following them out of the great hall.

Time and Date: October 1, Early dinner

Tesla found herself sitting in the same spot she'd sat at the table her first night here in Hogwarts. She couldn't believe it had already been a whole month of classes. She'd done a pretty good job of staying caught up if she did say so herself, but she'd realized just today that the ball was in one week! She still wasn't sure if she was going or not, but the second year in the common room had told her she should find her if she did go.

She glanced around, starting to load up her plate with food. It was still really early for dinner, but she was hoping that maybe the other three girls from the first night would show up. She wanted to see if any of them were going, and she'd gotten closer with Dora, so it'd be nice to see her again either way.

Dora has made a habit of coming to the Great Hall at odd times of day, times where the dining tables are not crowded by a rush of hungry students. Besides, having a early supper gives her more time to study before Astronomy.

Her eyes scan the long Hufflepuff table for a nice little quiet spot to sit, but then she notices someone. Tesla Stone, sitting up towards the front of the room. Dora pauses in her walk, looking at the girl in quiet deliberation. She does like Tesla, but Dora knows she won't get much peace and quiet with her around. But Tesla also seems somewhat lonely over there.

Tesla then locks eyes with Dora, and she smiles so broadly that Dora knows she can't sneak away now. Instead she sighs and walks down the row to take a seat across from her. "Good evening, Tesla." She nods politely, carefully serving herself a small meal. She's never had much of an appetite. "How are you?"

As she asks that, she hears an excited buzz of chatter, lively for the half-empty hall. A symptom of the Fall Ball theme announcement, no doubt. Dora wishes she could partake in that excitement, but the parcel she received just the other day has made the event a source of stress.

Illusia had left the dorms to find something to do. Classes were over for today, and she found that she simply couldn't bear to stay cooped up in her room, or even in the Common Room. It was a funny matter of fate that she ended up joining her own housemates in the Great Hall, even if she'd intended to meet or find something new or something she wasn't accustomed to.

"Are you going to the ball?" Illusia asked as soon as she sat down, skipping her usual greetings. It only occurred to her afterwards that the others could've been talking about something before she freely hopped in, but she'd been too excited about her question to think of that. She looked curiously at Tesla and Isadora while contemplating whether she'd challenge her picky appetite with a new dish. She couldn't believe it had already been a month since she started school here.

She hadn't had the opportunity to ask them about the ball yet, and she thought it'd be nice to know at least someone who was going. Illusia didn't want to miss it for any reason, but hypothetically, going as a lone first-year could be a little stressful. She always felt out of place when she was alone among a group of upper-year students.

"I heard there are going to be different activities besides dancing, if you two aren't sure about that bit", she said, looking at them expectantly. Surely she'd have them convinced by the time the ball was to be held, right?

Tesla noticed Dora coming into the great hall just like she'd hoped, and as soon as she caught sight of her she lit up with a grin. Isadora didn't really seem to want to come sit with her, but she started to come over anyways and a quiet voice Tesla was familiar with piped up, and she wasn't surprised at all to see Isadora sitting across from her. "Hi Isadora! I'm doing pretty well! I think they've really outdone themselves for dinner today, so I'm feeling a heck of a lot better even! How've you been?"

Tesla looked up as someone else joined them, and was surprised to see Illusia joining them without any hesitation or preamble. She couldn't help but notice the way both of the other first years had much simpler and smaller plates than her own, but was distracted by the question before she could feel embarrassed by her absurd amounts of food. "I told a second year, Rita Su, that I'd dance with her at the ball, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it for some personal reasons. If I see you there it'd be so fun to hang out with both of you, if you're planning on going Isadora! I certainly don't want to be the only first year I know there. Were you planning on going Illusia?" Tesla asked curiously, tilting her head and adding a bowl of soup to her pile of food.

"I've been alright, thank you." Dora replies to Tesla as another Hufflepuff, Illusia, joins the table. Dora has only been briefly acquainted with her, so she can't help but feel a bit nervous in her company. So, she does what she usually defaults to when she's nervous: She straightens her spine, sits quite still, keeps her eyes down and her voice low.

Illusia expresses her excitement for the Fall Ball, mentioning that there will be some other activities as well. Dora is intrigued by the idea of a petting zoo, as she's never been to one before. Dancing, on the other hand, she could do without.

Tesla talks about dancing with Rita Su, and Dora remembers her from the dorms. She seems nice, so it makes sense she and Tesla would get along. Really, Dora envies Tesla and Illusia. Tesla's free-spirited confidence and Illusia's beauty will probably make the ball unforgettable for them. Dora's afraid her own experience will be unforgettable in a more negative sense.

"If I see you there it'd be so fun to hang out with both of you, if you're planning on going Isadora!"

"Yes, I am to attend." Dora says, finding no satisfaction in the idea. She's been to a lot of balls, and she always feels out of place. At least the theme was interesting, Dora perking up slightly as she continues. "I researched these muggle faerietales in preparation. Some of them are quite gruesome, and very interesting. However, there are some logical inconsistencies when it comes to depictions of magic."

If only she had a dress to match the theme. The one her grandmother sent her the other day... it has her dreading the event to no end.
