Here we go! Sorry it's a bit shorter! Feel free to have Zoe start some small talk or ask some questions and I'll write more you can interact with next time

Tesla liked to think she was the most relaxed she'd ever been at Hogwarts in her short time here. This probably wasn't true, but right now with the slightly chilly breeze of Fall and the still warm sunshine of Summer keeping the chill away while she lay on the grass listening to the lake beside her and students hollering and flying around in the distance, it sure felt like it. She'd grabbed some food from lunch and had carried it all the way down to the lake to enjoy the sunshine and her afternoon off. She was planning to bring the plates back later; she'd considered just putting the food in her pockets and not stealing plates from the tables, but then there'd been soup and sandwiches with gravy and she thought better of it. She may be messy, but she wasn't that messy. And she really wanted that soup.

She still had a bit of food left that she hadn't finished eating yet, but a squirrel had been running up to investigate her and her plate, so she'd laid down for a bit to see if it would get any closer and try to steal her food so she could see its fluffy tail up close. So far, no luck. It hadn't come any closer since she'd moved, but she could see it watching her from the tree about fifteen feet away weighing its chances.

That was when Tesla spotted familiar red hair walking on the grounds a ways away. Tesla sat up quickly, turning to sit cross-legged and cupping her hands around her mouth. "Zoe! Over here! Come sit with me!" Tesla lifted one arm to wave at Zoe to try to get her attention, grinning brightly, her red paisley bandana standing out stark against her blond hair.

Two buffalo chicken wraps, sautéed vegetables and a lemonade to wash it down, Zoe was ecstatic to start eating. The Hogwarts lunch was always extravagant, and today was just as amazing as usual. Not just the food, but the weather too. The sun was out and shining bright, but the clouds were half covering it, so it was an immensely pleasant day. Zoe thought it was the perfect day to eat outside, and had planned to eat underneath a big willow tree she had seen days before. As she walked towards the grounds, the slight breeze in the air had her hair flying around, and she wished she had brought a hair tie. As she was thinking about that, she heard a familiar voice calling her name.

"Zoe! Over here! Come sit with me!"

She looked at where the voice was coming from, and lo and behold it was Tesla, her friend from the owlery, waving at her! Zoe gave a bright smile and made her way over to where Tes was sitting. She plopped down on the grass next to Tess, and put her tray of food down. "Hey Tes! How have you been?"

The view from where they were sitting was great. You could see great lake, and the chatter of students and staff on their lunch break was nice, but the real star of the show was the older Quidditch players, flying on their brooms, which was truly a sight to see.

Tesla was ecstatic to see Zoe smile at her and start walking to come sit with her without hesitation. She wasn't worried Zoe would ignore her, but it would've been a bummer if she'd been in a rush and couldn't spend time with her. Tesla noticed she had the same idea, bringing her lunch out to enjoy the nice weather.

"I've been good! I'm glad classes are over for the day. I even got my homework done so I can relax. I thought it'd be nice to eat lunch outside while the weather's still nice, I'm so glad you had the same idea! It's not bad to eat alone, but it's a lot less lonely to have someone else!" Tesla smiled brightly and started mopping up the rest of her soup and gravy with the last bit of bread, "I was hoping to maybe catch a glimpse of the giant squid in the lake too! My mum always told me it lurks in there... just waiting... hiding... looking for the best time to jump out and grab an unsuspecting first year!" Tesla mimed reaching out to grab Zoe, giggling the whole time, "Of course that's just a rumor. I think it really does exist, but the older students all said it was really friendly when I asked."

Tesla looked out over the lake thoughtfully, trying to decide if the ripples running across the surface could possibly be the tentacles of the aforementioned squid. A bobbing duck popping up from the depths destroyed that hope, so Tesla instead glanced up the hill towards where the students were practicing quidditch. "You know Zoe, I wasn't really interested in quidditch until I got here, and I'm not sure I ever want to be on the team anyways, but I think it'd be fun to try! You just seemed so excited by it I wanted to really check it out myself. I think I'd be a good beater! I guess I'll just t0 try flying first to see if I'm any good at it." Tesla glanced back, "What do you think you'd like to be? I bet you'd be a good chaser!" Tesla had noticed the way Zoe had looked at the quidditch players, and was hoping to start up a conversation to get to know her better. Maybe they could play a small game of their own sometime without worrying about all the rules and fast brooms and competition if they both did well in class.

Zoe nodded thoughtfully as Tesla talked. At first the thought of a giant squid slightly terrified Zoe, but the way Tesla was joking about it made her feel a bit better. She did start occasionally glancing at the great lake, every now and then though.

"I think you'd be a great beater! I'm hoping to be a keeper, but a chaser is definitely the next option. I can't wait to try out, though to be honest I'm a bit nervous. I'm sure we'll both do well though!"

Zoe took a big bite of her chicken wrap, and thought about what to say next. "You know, I-" She started but was interrupted by a Quaffle flying through the air missing her head by inches. Zoe gasped, and nearly choked on her food. She had never seen any type of Quidditch balls up close, so she immediately grabbed it, and examined it. It was roughly the size of a football, but unlike most footballs she had seen growing up, was bright red. Zoe heard a deep voice yelling, and she looked up to see the Quidditch players waving their hands, gesturing for her to throw it back at them. Zoe looked at Tes, and exclaimed excitedly, "We have to throw it back! But, I think you'd have a better shot than I do!", and handed her the ball.

Sorry it took me a bit! I like to get about one reply per day but I got a bit behind over the weekend. This is a really fun thread though, I think it's great for Tes and Zoe to get to know each other better! I think next time I'll ask about the pendant and her life before Hogwarts and everything so they can get to know each other better.

"I think you'd be a great keeper! You're muggle-born right? Did you play any sports in the muggle world? I went to a muggle primary so I've only ever played school mandated sports and they were pretty boring to be honest... I was never very good at football, although my mum calls it soccer which was really confusing at first," Tesla leaned back on her hands, tilting her head up to the sun, "I bet you'll do great when you try out! I might do it in a later year, I've got to see how hard classes are this year. I struggle a bit with getting things done that I don't want to get done, and I don't want one more excuse to avoid studying if I end up doing badly in class anyways. But if we both try out and get in we should totally study together! Since we'd both be busier."

Tesla was startled out of her lean when Zoe gasped and cut herself off halfway through what she was saying. She looked down to see Zoe looking ruffled holding a Quaffle in her hands. Tesla couldn't help but notice how her hands seemed to naturally fit into the divots meant to make it easier to hold. She glanced over at the shouting in the distance to see the quidditch players waving and hollering amicably.

Tesla laughed when Zoe handed her the ball, smiling at her, "I think we both have an equal chance, but I appreciate it!" She stood up, turned, and threw the ball as hard as she could back to the quidditch players. They had to dip down and to the side a few feet to catch it, but Tesla was still proud of herself for throwing it that far in the first place, even if it wasn't the world's most accurate and could use some good work. "Woo hoo!" Tesla jumped a little bit, pumping her fist in the air and grinning.

She sat down again, crossing her legs and leaning forward a bit. "Okay, that was pretty fun. Thanks for letting me throw it back to them! Even if we don't practice with the brooms and flying and whatnot I could probably work on my accuracy a bit. I could always throw a Quaffle for you to practice catching if you want sometime! Probably help me hit the beaters if I can throw a ball with my hand first anyways." Telsa glanced down at Zoe's partially eaten lunch, "Although, hopefully there's no more excitement at least until you finish eating. What did you get? I had the soup and the roast beef sandwich with gravy and extra bread. Mmmmm, bread." Tesla thought lovingly of the lunch she'd already finished eating, going back to her relaxed lean and listening to Zoe intently, staring at the quidditch players going back to their practice.

Once Tesla threw the ball, it sailed through the air, and Zoe was very impressed that the Quidditch players actually caught it. "Nice job! I think we really got their attention, so we might have an advantage when we try out. And, yeah I used to play soccer all the time back home, I was the goalie. That's why I think I'd be a good keeper. I can run pretty fast too though, so I'm having a hard time deciding between keeper and chaser. I don't think I'm strong enough to be a beater, and a seeker is too stressful, haha" Zoe said with a laugh. "Hmm, I hadn't thought about the studying aspect of Quidditch. I might need to think about it a little more. But, we should totally get together to study sometime, or practice Quidditch."

She saw Tes glance at her lunch and Zoe was reminded to eat her food, before it got cold. She stuck her fork into a stick of asparagus and said "I got chicken wraps, some veggies and a lemonade. The problem with being here, is that I forget I need to eat vegetables. " Waiting for a response, Zoe finished her half eaten wrap, licking her fingers.

The sunshine felt great on her skin, and she traced her hand above the soft grass. Zoe noticed a daisy, with a bright yellow center and pretty white petals sticking out, and for some reason it reminded her of Tes. Maybe it was her bright personality and optimism. That kind of thing felt hard to come by nowdays, Zoe thought. "Y'know, back home, it was never this sunny or pleasant, even in the summer. It was always kind of gloomy, but you lived on a farm, right? That must've been really cool!"

Tesla laughed along with Zoe a bit as she talked about quidditch more. "We'll just have to see how tryouts go! I'm not sure chucking a ball does much good, but at least they know we're reliable! If you were a goalie you would probably be a really good keeper, but it's hard to know how stuff translates over onto a broom, you know? Just 'cause you can run fast or catch a ball on the ground doesn't mean you'll be better at one or the other when you're flying. I bet it also depends on what slot opens up on the team! I know for certain though you've got a point about being a seeker. It seems really stressful to have so many people rely on just you!" Tesla looked at Zoe, smiling and nodding, "We should totally study and practice together! Classes aren't as bad as I thought they'd be, but they sure do assign more homework than I'd like. Why would be even need to know the history of a spell to learn it anyways." Tesla watched longingly as Zoe ate the rest of her food, deciding she'd have to get one of those wraps next time she found herself grabbing lunch again. It smelled delicious. "I don't really eat a lot of vegetables anyways back home. I just really prefer the taste and texture of meat you know? Although I do have to remind myself to not just eat sweets all the time. That's where I can eat way too much, even for me!"

Tesla found herself watching Zoe run her fingers through the grass, taking in her shining red hair. It wasn't the first time she'd noticed the rose gold pendant around her neck, but in the direct sunlight it was much harder to ignore than in the dim light of the owlery. It was beautiful! Tesla's attention was snapped back to her face when she spoke. "Yeah! I lived a few minutes outside of Burford. It's a little town west of Oxford. I love it there! We had a few acres, so we had horses, a dairy cow and her baby, some sheep, chickens, basically all the default farm animals! One of my mums grew up on a muggle farm, and my other mum can't really be in populated areas so we live way out there! It's just easier to be around muggles and empty space for us. It gets really cold in the winter, but it's beautiful in the summers, even warmer than here a lot of the time!" Tesla glanced back at the pendent before looking back at Zoe with a curious tilt of her head, "What about you? Where are you from and what's your family light? Was that necklace a gift?" Tesla kept her attention on Zoe, even as she saw the squirrel from before creeping up towards them from the corner of her eye.

"Yeah, hopefully I'll be a natural at flying. I'm sort of at a disadvantage since a lot of people here have been flying since they were in diapers, while I've only just started. I am athletic-ish, which is good but, flying is a big part, obviously." Noticing Tesla looking at her food with longing, she laughed. "Are you still hungry? I'd be happy to give you some of my wrap, I doubt I can finish it anyway,".

Listening intently as Tes spoke about her family and then noticing her pendant, she clutched it, getting slightly self conscious. She didn't tell many people about her family life in general, but in Hogwarts it felt even harder to speak about them, since a lot of people had really cool childhoods filled with magic and wonder. But, she figured Tes might be genuinely interested to know about her life since it differed so much from hers. "I live with my aunt and uncle in Manchester, with my two cousins. Well, I think of them more of my brothers than my cousins, but..." Zoe shrugged. "I got this pendant from my mom, when I was a baby. It's the only thing I have from her, she left when I was barely a week old. And I've never even met my dad."

The atmosphere got a bit awkward after that, so Zoe felt the need to add, "But I don't mind or anything. My aunt and uncle are great, and as much as I hate to admit it, my cousins are great too. Don't ever tell them that though, I'll never hear the end of it."

Finishing off her vegetables, she remarked "Anyway, where you grew up sounds awesome! I love the city and all, but the outdoors is, well.." Zoe gestured around them, at the lake, trees and general pretty greenery.

I saw your parslemouth application was pending! Once you make the changes they want and get accepted it'd be fun to do a thread where the two talk about it and Tesla bluntly says she's a werewolf. She implied it here, but she wouldn't outright say it unless she knew Zoe wasn't "normal". I'm also thinking maybe one or two more posts to wrap up their heartfelt conversation and make plans for them to meet up again?

Tesla thoughtfully eyed the wrap, but finally shook her head. "No! It's quite alright! I'm always hungry, my mum always said I would eat a whole horse if she let me! If you don't finish any I'll take it so it won't go to waste, but don't worry about saving some for me."

Tesla listened quietly as Zoe talked about her family. She sat, thinking to herself for a moment even as Zoe tried to lighten the mood. "I didn't mean to ask such a personal question. I'm glad you live with such a loving aunt and uncle, despite your mum. I supposed it's nice to have something of your mum to remember her by, but it is unfortunate it's not exactly the most pleasant of memories. It sounds like you have a great family anyways though! I don't have any siblings, but I always thought it'd be fun to get to have someone I could be that close with." Tesla smiled slightly, thinking of Zoe spending time with her cousins.

Tesla was still lost in her thoughts as Zoe changed the topic to how nice it was to be in the outdoors like they were, fidgeting with a bracelet around her wrist. "Yeah the outdoors is really nice! I've never been in a city all that often. My family never has any reason to visit somewhere with all those people," Tesla paused, finally seeming to come to some conclusion. She looked up from where she'd been fiddling, saying softly, "Thanks for telling me about your mum, I appreciate you being honest with me. Um... my family likes to live out of town but we didn't just choose it you know? I said one of my mums can't really be in populated areas, and it's true, but not because we don't want to or it's overwhelming. She also can't get any wizarding jobs, and it's a risk to even spend time in wizarding areas," Tesla paused for a second, and then hurried to clarify, "Not because she's committed any crimes or anything! She's just not human. And the wizarding world doesn't like that. Don't like us, that is, the ones that aren't... Normal. " Tesla shifted a bit, hesitating before smiling at Zoe.

"So, I appreciate you telling me about your family! I know it can be kind of hard to want to share those things, especially here where everyone is so... magical?" Tesla brightened more, laughing a bit. She felt like she'd lifted a weight off her shoulders, and she was happy she'd gotten the chance to talk with Zoe about their pasts, even if it had gotten a bit awkward and gloomy for both of them, and Tesla felt a bit guilty she'd let it take this turn. "Maybe it's silly to be intimidated by all these magic families! After all we're just as good as them! We're in this together, and we can enjoy the outdoors and be accomplished witches all we want!" Tesla finally looked around at where Zoe had gestured, taking in the view. "Hey, now you're finished eating do you want to do something? Maybe go for a walk?"
