OOC: Super excited as this is now my 20th post, yaaaayyy!!!! Also, a warning, this post has some medium language.
Jannette despises libraries. It was a place for studying, doing homework, and worse of all she could never talk in a normal voice, it always has to be in a 'library voice'; all of these things added together sounded like the most boring things ever. But despite how much the place bores Jannette, the library was a beautiful place. Each corridor was beautiful in its architecture, the way wood was carved made the place honestly feel magical. The shelves were stuffed with hundreds, no, thousands of books, sectioned with certain genres. From charms to magical fantasies the library has it all.
Sadly, the reason why Jannette was here, wasn't because she was checking out some first-year fairytale books. Instead, it was for waiting last minute (like she usually does) and needing to get homework done last minute. Sure she could've done it earlier, but why would she? Hogwarts was a place for adventure, fun, and exploring who you really are! Not this place where you have to study and do homework for 4 hours, especially on weekends! And at this point, Jannette believes the Professors definitely work together to make the students suffer. While homework, tests, and more homework just never seemed fair -- especially for the expectations of a first year.
Our story begins with the young Applebottom walking through the library corridors. She needed firstly, to find a dusty old book that'll assist her in a Herbology assignment that was due in two days, she also had to study for Transfiguration for the next class, prepare what she's gonna need for potions, she needed to learn of stars for astronomy (which she didn't know the point of that is) and finally, she needed to do homework on wand movements and incantation speech for a spell she learned in Charms class.
Besides putting the pro in procrastination, Jannette needed to get the first thing off her bucket list, the Herbology book! So, like all first years, the young girl began to search, she looked through all the shelves, her fingers pressed on the texture of the leather spine on each book, whispering the titles. "Duh Tales o' Beedle duh Barhd" Her eyes wander to the next book, "Childrehns An'ho -- an'ho..." Jannette squints at the title for a moment and shakes her head, blowing air out her mouth in frustration before continuing, "wha'ever dah word means, o' Mons'ers..." 5 minutes become 30 as she continues searching each row, at this point, the young girl is now on her tippy toes, as she began to wonder if she was going to need a ladder, but before she could even finish that thought Jannette spoke the words "Won T'owhsand Magical 'erbs 'n Fungee -- OI, wai' o' minu'e...!" A wide grin appears on Jannette's face as she lets out a like shriek with glee.
Taking out the green book from the shelf, Jannette was mesmerized. The design had a pretty herbal leaf in the middle accompanied by a green mushroom, a beautiful dark-green floral pattern around the herbal leaf on the cover of the book, and to finish off, the spine of the book was embroidered with a fungi pattern near the edges with the title of the book in gold lettering. In Jannette's hands, the book felt cold when she was holding it, and she could feel the bumps of the designs on her fingertips.
While celebrating her light victory with a twirl, Jannette couldn't help but notice a figure in the corner of her eye. It was horrible, no, terrifying! It was so terrifying it even made the young Slytherin freeze in place! But what was it? Or rather, who was it?
Faye Simmons.
It was a name that Jannette and many Slytherins were familiar with. She heard the rumors and drama of what happened at the Grand Hall during the Sorting Ceremony throughout the common room. Three Ravenclaws getting into a fight, a spell hitting Cash (a Slytherin Prefect no less), and detention. The drama was so crazy that Jannette even knew the names and faces of the people involved; Faye, Sophia, and Gem (which Jannette thinks is short for Gemini, or was it Gemima?). However you spelled Gem's name, It was impossible not to know who these three infamous Ravenclaws were unless you were living under a rock.
The brunette knew the girl in front of her was Faye Simmons, beyond the typical Ravenclaw traits of wisdom, intelligence, wit, and creativity. Faye had other qualities that couldn't go unnoticed like her dirty blonde hair and hazel eyes; Jannette however, noticed another quality in the Ravenclaw girl that couldn't be ignored, this quality was so important that Jannette probably wouldn't have even known it was Faye standing across from her except for this one important detail:
Faye Simmons had a very obvious resting bitch face.
Jannette wanted to show her Slytherin pride and make a comment to the Ravenclaw, she really-really did, but instead, all Jannette could do was walk up to Faye with her Herbology book hugged tightly, the dirty blonde hair girl was only a foot away from the brunette as Jannette did the only thing she could do, she stared.

Seconds, turned to minutes as Jannette kept looking at the girl, her clunky glasses making her seemed all wide-eyed like a deer in headlights. Her brows furrowed, and her lips curved in the form of a frown that gave off huge judgemental vibes. from an outsider's perspective, Jannette looked like a complete idiot. It was like a small garden snake going against a wise raven, everyone knew what the outcome was gonna be, except for Jannette. This was war, but for the brunette, it was more than that, it was a silent war! But then the silence broke, as Jannette chose her typical playground insults from her repertoire, "OI, Broomhead!" She curses, giving the girl the o'l Scottish sass, a sly grin now appears on her face.

───────────────────────────────────── Once again, Faye found herself in the school library. The girl had a strict rule in line with her new change in demeanor for her second year: never be in the library on purpose. None of that 'reading for fun' rubbish. No, she had to study. She didn't want to, of course, but since she was 'here to learn', she was forced to. Being forced to do work at school? How stupid.
She pushed past students on her way through the library entrance, weaving her way towards the bookshelves. She made her way through each one at a slow pace, moving the tips of her fingers along the book spines as if it'd magically let her know if she found the right one, pausing every so often to take a book off the shelf and read the back cover, before putting it back and whispering a expletive under her tongue.
It was the third or fourth time she'd done this action on a loop before she found herself in the presence of another student. She looked over for a second. It was a Slytherin, first year judging by the lost look in her eye and minuscule height. Faye rolled her eyes and looked back to the bookshelf, picking out a Defense Against the Dark Arts book, moving her finger along the back cover as she read it.
Out of the corner of her eye she saw the tiny girl make her way over towards her, book in hand. It didn't seem like much, so she kept reading the surprisingly interesting blurb. After a minute, the girl still hadn't moved. What was she doing?
Faye looked up from the book to see the young Slytherin staring at her weirdly. Not doing anything, just staring. She looked ridiculous, looking up at her with a violent look on her face. The Ravenclaw widened her eyes in disgust, her eyebrows rising.
"Do you want something?" She asked, blinking rapidly, a bit creeped out by the constant staring, like the girl was trying to weave her way into her mind, find all her secrets.
The Slytherin finally spoke, throwing a weak insult in a thick accent. Her eyebrows shot down and furrowed, seemingly offended by the two words. She even gasped. What was she thinking, insulting her, an upperclassman? Had she really just got to Hogwarts and immediately chose violence?
"Broomhead?! That's a lot coming from someone who could easily fit in a pocket. Go on, try and reach those books at the top! Do you need a stool, love? Aww! How pathetic."
Faye adopted a sing-song voice at the end, pouting dramatically to mock the younger girl.
(To be honest, she was the one being pathetic now, picking on a first year)

The sounds of a deep exhale from the dirty blonde gave way to a wide grin from a brunette. Jannette knew she won the war. Another decisive victory for team Slytherin. If a Professor was around they definitely should've given Jannette at least 50 points to Slytherin for that roast. But before Jannette could turn her heel and walk away triumphantly, Faye gave a devious response.
"Broomhead?! That's a lot coming from someone who could easily fit in a pocket. Go on, try and reach those books at the top! Do you need a stool, love? Aww! How pathetic."
Hey, wait a minute, what did she mean by easily fitting in a pocket? And needing a stool?! And did Faye really say in a tune like Jannette's a kid? Did Faye not see that brunette wasn't a kid, she's obviously eleven! "N-No...! Oi don' need uh stool!"1 She whines, her face turning a bright crimson as she was a little offended by how accurately the eagle described the garden snake. "'n Oi'm not pathetic... Oi'm Jannette Applebottom."2 She retorts with a rather childish comeback (if that response was even a comeback at all...). Whatever the case may be this wasn't looking good for Jannette, her heart pounding like a drum, as she anxiously taps her foot.
Jannette couldn't let Faye get away with this. The young Slytherin girl has always argued with her siblings, but she never really felt like this before so why was she breathing so heavily? Could Faye hear her? Does she know that Jannette is loudly tapping her foot, the sounds of her shoes clicking rapidly on the wooden floors like a stampede as it echoes through the corridor? Also, why was Jannette biting her gums? She couldn't be called out like this, and she definitely couldn't allow Faye to get away with it.
"And oi CAN make it to dah top withou' a stool or ladder ahk'ually! Oi've done I' a'leas' fif'y toimes since oi've been 'ere...!~"3 She said in a snobbish and rather matter-of-factly tone. In reality, Jannette never made it to the top of those bookshelves, in fact, she was absolutely terrified of the top shelves as her fear of heights was way to prevalent for her to ever wanna set foot on a ladder and go up there. Her eyes showed doubt as she looked over at the top shelf as if it was a mountain before looking over to Faye. "'ave you ever made I' to dah top shelves Broomhead, cause-cause oi 'ave. Hmmmm. HMMM!!!"4

───────────────────────────────────── Faye raised her eyebrows at the Slytherin's weak response, watching as the girl squirmed and turned bright red. She was so adorably stupid. Making her eyes go wide with fake amazement, she turned back to the bookshelf.
"Woww." She drawled, rolling her eyes a bit. Her fingers moved past all the book spines again, just trying to find anything to do instead of talking to the strange first year with an alarming vendetta against her. In all honesty, it kind of felt good, to throw insults at someone so feeble. There was a nagging in the back of her head telling her to disregard the power she felt over something so pathetic but, like most things, she ignored it.
Faye could hear the girl aggressively breathing behind her, tapping her foot on the wooden floor like some sort of reverse woodpecker. Who would get so riled up by somebody they'd never met? She knew some students liked to get competitive when it came to the idea of house rivalry, but this was really going too far.
"First years." The Ravenclaw whispered under her breath.
She kept her eyes on the bookshelf, listening to Jannette ramble on about how she'd, despite being minuscule, managed to get to the top of the bookshelves without using a stool or a ladder. She raised her eyebrows again, holding in a snicker at the comment that barely sounded true "Have you, now?"
Faye turned back towards Jannette slightly. Was she really deflecting? Trying to defend her transparent fact by bringing Faye down with her. This girl was unbelievable.
She bent down dramatically to be at eye level to Jannette, acting like one would treat a young child, batting her long eyelashes. "Listen. You're annoying, and I'm tired. Of course I've reached the top shelves."
(She'd never even tried)
"Whilst I was there, I found your massive ego."
Faye reached out and pinched the girl's nose, pulling her hand back with a catty look on her face.
"Oops. Got your nose."
