◇ A Lofty Tower ◇
After a full morning's worth of wandering through Hogwarts' labyrinths of hallways and corridors, Evangeline had found herself somewhere in the west wing of the school. A pencil and a brand new notebook in hand, the first year student was scribbling a rather messy-looking map of the school grounds. Pressing the notebook against the cold stone of the wall, her gaze was intently focused on making her map look a little more legible.
I think that's the Ravenclaw dorm over there… Oh dear, let's just pretend that looks like a bird-
The edges of a smile twitched on her face, entirely directed at the smudged blob she'd created on the page. She brushed a strand of her black hair away from her face, and tucked the pencil behind her right ear before moving on.
Ahead of her she could see an arching doorway leading to a spiral staircase that seemed to go on and on up into the sky. A gust of wind rushed through the framed stairway, rustling her new robes and making her shiver. Almost everything she owned was brand new. To think that magic had been real all this while! Cautiously setting a sneaker on the first step, the rosy-cheeked girl peered up the tower, unsure if she was allowed to see what was up there. Before she could make a decision however, the sound of a voice made her jump out of her skin and she quickly whipped around to face whoever it was.
"I apologize- I'm just taking a look!" she blurted. Pressing her lips together, she met the stranger's eyes with a steady gaze.

Harper was wondering to the owlery to deliver a letter to her parents back home. She wanted to tell them about many things, especially her recent "O" in herbology which made her beyond excited because Herbology was a class that she normally struggled in because she didn't really like plants or really understand them. She was just very thankful that they had all kinds of protective gear to help them because she wouldn't want to touch plants directly without her gloves.
Harper was carrying her letter in her hand, she had written it ahead of time and already had it sealed up in an envelope. On her way, she saw a student, presumably a first year gazing up into the Owlery from below. "Oh don't worry that's just the Owlery. Do you need to send a letter back home? I can walk you up there and show you how. My name is Harper by the way. What's your name?" She said with a smile as she looked to her peer and then looked up at the staircase. She still grasped her letter in her hand and awaited her peer's answer. She hoped it would be a yes because she loved to help others out.

An owl-ery? Sending letters?
Despite her confusion, Evangeline was relieved to find that this person seemed fairly friendly. Her generous smile and offer to help made the first year feel welcome and safe. "Evangeline. Pleasure to meet you! I'll take you up on that offer if that's alright… I don't have a letter with me, but I'd like to see what's up there. The tower has a rather curious atmosphere about it and you mentioned owls?" she responded, already inching up the onto the second step.
Letting Harper lead the way, Evangeline followed on her heels, pale green eyes taking in everything she saw. As the climbed, she plucked her pencil from her ear and started scribbling on the notebook in her arms again, this time drawing the view from the windows that decorated the stairway. Hogwarts came with a very specific feeling that wasn't easy to capture; she had never found anything like it in the muggle world.
"If you don't mind me asking, what year are you in?" piped up her inquiry in between short puffs of breath. My short legs really aren't made for climbing- The higher up they went, the more windy it grew, and at one point, Evangeline's yellow tie smacked her in the face. When they at last reached the top, she halted in her tracks, surprised by the open room in front of her.

Harper nodded and showed Evangeline into the Owlery. She had been here a few times herself due to sending letters home to her family in Scotland. She only went back during breaks so she didn't get many opportunities to see her parents. However, she has really enjoyed her time at Hogwarts so she didn't mind it too much.
Harper was leading Evangeline into the Owlery, which looked pretty boring compared to how Harper imagined it at least, it reminded her more of a post office rather than a place where someone can give owls letters to be delivered. However, Harper didn't mind. She usually only stayed for long enough to give her letter to an owl and then she left and went about her normal business.
"So this is the owlery. There are three levels, the first being the main level, which is this one here that you see now. The second and third are just where the owls live, but the fourth floor is the most amazing, it allows you to see the sunset if you come during it and it is quite beautiful in my opinion." Harper stated with a smile showing brightly on her face.
She had just realized that Evangeline had asked for her year at Hogwarts. She had been so focused on showing her the owlery that she had totally missed the question at first. "Oh no! I am sorry I didn't answer your question... I am a second year." She answered finally, actually feeling pretty bad that she didn't answer it at first. She hoped that Evangeline wouldn't be upset with her.

Harper thought for a moment trying to figure out some pointers that she could give the younger first year before her. Evangeline had asked her specifically for navigating the school, but she got lost herself sometimes if she was being honest. Sometimes the hallways were more like a maze to her.
"Well if I am being honest I can't help you much with getting around the school, I get lost myself sometimes! It can be a bit of a maze here. Especially if you're tired from studying all day and trying to get back to your dorm." She said half-jokingly. "One thing that I would advise is finding classes that are harder for you and focusing on those. I definitely have some classes I struggle with more than others, and I have always been a student that gets good grades. There are just a couple classes that take more time than others." Harper mentioned trying to actually give good advice. Although, that wasn't always her strong suit. "Oh! Also if you're looking for friends, I would suggest joining a sport or a club. I am on the Ravenclaw broom racing team and it's a blast plus I have made many friends because of it and it gets me away from the books and forces me to be social." Harper said with a bright smile. She was a bit of a chatty Kathy today for some reason, she just loved helping out people. That was probably what it was.
"Oh! I don't know if you can pet the owls. I'm not sure how friendly some of them are." Harper looked a bit scared when Evangeline was reaching for one. She didn't want to witness anyone getting hurt. She would hate to see that.
