Gem considered Castor's inquiry-- What sort of dress would I like?
She had to admit, she wasn't so sure that she could answer the question. Her fingers came up to rub the fabric of her current outfit. It was a pretty dress, sure, but it was stiff, slightly scratchy, and the collar area smelled of strong bergamot. She vaguely remembered her mum pulling it out from her suitcase with a flourish. The whole ensemble was from one of her mother's wealthy, fashionable friends. Maybe Gem didn't know much about the world of runways and haute couture, but she knew one thing about the dress--it wasn't like her at all. Didn't her mum always say that clothing should reflect the personality of the person wearing them?
Gem sighed. "Yes, something comfortable, that I could run in." She repeated. Her eyes swept over the clothing racks one more time. Suddenly, she spotted exactly what she was looking for. It was a bright blue sundress, with white flowers splashed all over it. It was simple, floaty, and nothing like the polished, posh clothes her mum usually picked out for her.
Gem plucked the dress from the rack and tentatively brought it back over to Castor and the store clerk. "How about this one?" she asked, as she nervously held it aloft for them to see.

Castor averted her gaze from Gemima, trying not to pressure the other girl and stress her out. Her dark eyes trailed the wracks and shelves and displays, admiring the clothing as much as she was judging. She would admit to having an eye for fashion, picked up over the years from various formal events and get-togethers. Finding the right clothing was difficult when you just couldn't help but pick all of it apart.
The minute her eyes landed on the beautiful yellow skirt, she had made up her mind about what she would be getting. The skirt was lengthy and bright, the floral pattern tossed around uniquely yet methodically. The flowers popped out of the dress like they had come to life.
She waited politely for Gemima to finish deciding before going over to get the skirt, and when the other girl did, Castor couldn't say she was disappointed in the choice. One look at Gemima would say that that dress would look wonderful on her, from its color to its design.
"That is lovely Gemima." The French girl complimented, looking at the dress with great admiration. "Thank you for the help, ma'am." she thanked the store clerk.
The skirt she had decided on was just a few feet away, so she stepped over and snatched it off its hook. It flowed in her hand, like a curtain in the breeze. It wasn't what Castor would usually wear, and she would certainly not be wearing it in front of her parents, but it was nice, so she got it. She had money to spare anyways, so what was the harm?
"Are you ready to check out?" she asked as she stepped back over, skirt in hand and butterfly in the other. She was pretty content with her purchases.

The clinking noises of a clothing hanger caught her attention, and she turned round to see Castor pull a flowy, flowery, bright yellow skirt from its rack.
"Oh! That's absolutely beautiful." Gemima exclaimed. Granted, the skirt did clash with her friend's current outward style. Gem glanced at the stuffed butterfly, still clutched tightly in the other girl's hand. But then again, there was certainly more to Castor than she had first thought. She was charming in that sense--a prim, proper child with a secret love for flora and fauna? How intriguing!
"You'll look magnifique in it, I'm sure!" she gushed.
At Castor's remark, Gem lead the way to the register area. She poked around in her small purse for the correct combination of euro notes. The foreign currency was still a bit difficult to manage, but she carefully laid what she hoped was the exact amount on the counter, along with the dress.
Just as the clerk was folding the garment, Gemima heard a familiar clacking of heels fast approaching in their direction. She paused to accept the now bagged dress from the clerk, then turned around.
"Puddle-duck! There you are!" her mother cried, hurrying over to lovingly embrace her daughter.
Gem blushed at the slightly embarrassing nickname, but she returned the hug. "Hi, Mum. W-what are you doing here?"
"I'm finished with the photoshoot! It's a right shame that you weren't allowed in; the clothes I wore were simply gorgeous, but no matter, there'll be plenty of them in the future." Her mum beamed. "We've got to leave now, since I booked that lunch reservation..."
She paused for a bit, lost in thought. Then, she finally noticed Castor standing nearby.
"Oh!" she gasped, gliding towards the French girl. "Did you make a friend? I'm so proud of you!"
Gem coughed and nodded awkwardly. "Mum, this is Castor Alarie," she started, her voice going stiffly polite all of a sudden, as if she was reading from a script. "And Castor, this is my mother, Maggie Sable."【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】@Edme Achillian

Castor, though excited about her purchases, was a bit flustered by the praise from the other girl. She put on her best straight face and replied, "And same to you. I imagine that dress will catch the eye of all in Paris." she tried her best to match the other girl's level of compliments, finding that she meant each word. It was, truly, a beautiful blue dress.
The two strolled over to the counter, Castor swiftly pulled out some money and stepped in front of the counter after Gemima, placing the euros down on the counter as well as the skirt. She was still admiring the beautiful pattern and shape of the skirt when a loud voice came from the entrance of the shop. A beautiful woman hurried over towards Gemima, practically squeezing the life out of the girl.
Puddle duck? Castor thought to herself, furrowing her eyebrows. She realized with a jump that the cashier had finished bagging her clothes, and she grabbed the bag quickly, thanking the person profusely.
As she scurried over to meet Gemima by the woman whom Castor assumed was her mother, Gemima gave quick intros to the two of them.
"Good evening, ma'am." Castor smiled with only a trace of genuine humor in it, mainly from the silly nickname the woman had given her daughter playing over in the French girl's head. "Gemima and I were just about to leave." she tried to be quicker with her words, but the language was still a bit foreign to her. She stumbled a bit, but got the point across.

【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】"Bonjour, Castor!" Maggie chirped.
Gemima watched pensively as her mother's eyes flicked up and down.
"Gemima isn't the type to make friends," Maggie mused, voicing Gem's concerns, albeit in an embarassing manner. The woman ignored her daughter's flustered sputtering and ran a hand through her perfectly styled hair, saying, "It's a habit I'm trying to coerce her out of, but perhaps she's doing better than I thought! You seem like a lovely person, darling. Tres jolie aussi." Very pretty too
"Could we-- I walk you back to your parents?" Gem interrupted. Better take control of the situation before things went south. "Mum and I have to go to lunch, but I'd be happy to see you off. Don't want to keep you or anything."
She clutched the paper shopping bag to her chest, and carefully tottered over to stand next to her new friend.
"The nickname's from a Beatrix Potter book, by the way." Gemima said out of the corner of her mouth. "Mum's a huge fan. Jemima Puddle-duck, that was the one."
While she waited for the other girl to answer, Gem rustled around in the bag and pulled out the top of the dress.
"I bought this, mum. I know it's a bit different from what I usually wear, but I thought it would look..nice." Her voice shook slightly, and all of a sudden, the bright blue fabric looked drab compared to her mother's Dior ensemble, with its reverse hoop skirt and floral neckline.
"Oh, it looks very nice." Maggie said, but to Gem's ears, the compliment sounded forced. Maybe she should have picked out something fancier. Was the dress something a model would wear?【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】

Tje poppy women seemed enthusiastic to greet Castor, who smiled politely at the woman as she rambled on about Gemima's friends (or lack thereof) and greetings to the French girl.
She blushed a bit at the comment on her being pretty coming from such a well-cut person, but hid it less than skillfully with a hand. "Hello Ma'am. It is very good to meet you."
Castor froze up a bit at the comment about her parents, and pulled up her watch quickly to check the time. It was nearly time for her to go home, her siblings were likely already grouping up. She sucked in a tight breath of air, but pushed down any anxiety or nerves she may feel. It was fine, really. She had maybe ten minutes to get down to the lobby and see her siblings. She would need a bag for her items too.
Pulling herself from her thoughts, she quickly supplied Gemima with an answer, "No, no, that is okay! It is not that far of a walk. I will do it myself." she flashed another attempt at a warm smile, a bit sad to part with her friend. She stifled a laugh at the explanation of such a nickname. "Puddle Duck". So silly.
A thought rushed over the French girl quick as a bullet train, and she quickly grabbed out a piece of crumpled up paper and a small, used up pencil, scribbling furiously. "Gemima," she called the other girl to attention, just barely noticing the look of dismay on her small face, "my address. Send letters. I will read them." she shoved the piece of paper over to the girl, looking at her hopefully only for a moment, before beginning to collect her things. "I had a very good time shopping. You have an excellent choice in clothing and stuffed animals. Au revoir!" she hurried off to the elevator, waving as she went.
