Found a Friend Looking for a Foe
Aurelia wasn't too keen on joining the summer camp this year. For a great part of July, she was on a search for her origins, her history and prominently, her biological father. One who could possibly give her insight into Thealla Notresvace as a person, just out of sheer curiosity. With events cropping up for most of her month, her efforts barely scraped the surface of mysteries. Frustrating. She would have continued her search if it weren't for summer camp and the duelling tournament. Who knows, perhaps it might ease some things off her mind. And there was a chance her boyfriend might be here at camp too. Long-distance relationships weren't very easy.
The large owl flew past the long queue to the registry trailing outside the stadium's entrance. It was just easier that way. She definitely could snatch a pamphlet later on. To later register for her tent and events. First, she waited, perched on the top of a blue tent, scanning around for anyone she knew to accompany. But as she took off again, it would seem that someone really didn't like owls. The owl animagi only witnessed the wand pointed in her direction a second too late before she flew. Pain struck her, throwing her off course and tumbling onto the ground.

Maxi winced when scanning over the itinerary handed out by the entrance of the London Quidditch Stadium, actively trying to figure out what the activities in weird names really were. While on the one hand things like BBQ were easy to learn, on the other hand the Mutiny-Wolf Game and Capture the Jolly Roger were way beyond his understanding. Some good people had made the pamphlet printed in French, awesome thing, though Maxi doubted if he could grasp the meaning better if it’s still in English.
So there he was, in the queue waiting for checkin. Maxi hadn’t really formed an opinion of the camp yet, the last time he joined wasn’t the best experience, especially the spin the bottle game. Really, kissing someone you were completely ignorant of? He’d never sign up again this time, that’s a fixed thing. And apart from this he knew nothing more about how his camp life would be, but since he was slowly changing his opinion regarding the Hogwarts events Maxi thought it couldn’t be too bad. And there would be the broom race which he was fairly excited about, an opportunity for him to prove Beauxbatons’ strength on track. Seemed quite a normal exchange program, huh? Yet this time was different, him on a mission destined by his grandfather.
It was truly a surprise when Louis de Fostoncy called him into his personal studio and informed him about the thing, with his father presenting as well. The thing was - ugh, a bit whimsical, but he couldn’t say much on the subject. It was a secret, after all, something even his father knew little of. Notresvace, despite pureblood as it seemed now, was a name Maxi seldom heard his family mentioned on the dinner table. That’s obviously excusable, seeing that the de Fostoncys had some unspeakable past with them, this family reigned by women was powerful and threatening. According to Monsieur le Comte they were already claimed dead by his postadolescence, yet now they somehow had a girl remaining who was to become the next family matriarch, so signal red. The Notresvace women were exceeding beauties and talented owl animagi, that’s what his grandfather had told him, in hope of he could locate the girl during camp. Tight-lipped as always, Louis de Fostoncy did not give Maxi any further information - but again excusable, for he himself knew nothing personal about the girl apart from the Notresvace family trademarks.
Remembering the mission Maxi sighed with no one noticing. This girl could be eleven, could be fifteen. She could be tall, could be chubby. Yet with so little useful information he had to find out who exactly this Notresvace girl was. He couldn’t bow at every pretty young lady and inquire if they were under the name of Notresvace - that’d be impolite, and everybody should know his motives soon. As a result the only thing he could rely on was luck. Only luck could bring him to her, helping him strike awkward conversations and gather useful information about her. Nobody else could help.
Oh, and by the way, he had never met a real animagus before.
His head ached, the letters jumping on the piece of itinerary and forming unreadable syllables. Rubbing his eyes slightly Maxi’s vision flickered towards the vast sky, again missing the good weather in his home country. He really needed a good rest, portkey really wasn’t the best mean of transportation. Again glancing at the queue waiting for registry, he estimated how long he still had to wait. Oh, and a tent…he had to find himself tentmates to stay along. But solo tent might not be that bad.
He shook his head. So many things waiting to be done. That was when he noticed something, totally out of expectations.
There was…an owl, perching on top of a tent.
Almost immediately Maxi knew that this was rather unusual with his instincts, for few people would bring their pets along and if they did the animals should be locked in cages while travelling. The mammals might be an exception, but this one was an owl, and owls shouldn’t be residing on the tent without it’s owner actively trying to get it back to them. Could that be…?
Mentally speaking his brain was still considering the fact, but physically his hand moved faster than expected. Drawing out his wand in a agile manner and pointing at the large owl, he uttered something that himself was totally ignorant of what exactly he was doing. “Flipendo!”
It hit, and the owl tumbled onto the ground. It was only by then when Maxi realised what he was doing. Attacker. What if it really was someone’s pet? And even if the owl’s someone’s animagus form, wouldn’t they grow mad? Maxi knew that he loathed hotheaded people, but just now he was being impulsive. Guilt struck, and hastily making his way to it, Maxi knelt down to check the owl’s condition.
“I, um…I’m so sorry.” his fingers swept through the owl’s feathers. “Poor owl…I’ll heal you in a minute. Hey, it shouldn’t hurt much.” French would be his languages choice, though Maxi wasn’t really realising it. But after all, owls…couldn’t understand human languages, could they?
Now he had little time to think about the owl’s identity. Animagus form or simply pet, that didn’t matter much. He had to heal this magnificent creature, to send it back to the sky again. “Reparifors.” his waved his wand, when the purple tube appeared. “Are you feeling any better?” The owl might not converse with him directly, but Maxi hoped to get one or two hints from the owl’s expressions or movements.

Ouch. From the violent tumble, a mess of dirt trolled from the earth and smeared onto her feathers. The entire ordeal was not without the clear distress of piercing screeches from the large avian. The turbulent rolls ultimately slowed to a stop, unsteady on her talons, she stood, wary of any more apparent danger incoming. Shaking off the grime - and attempt at that - and collecting back her dizzying reality at the moment. What the hell happened? She was certain she heard the incantation of the knockback jinx right before her path of flight disarrayed onto the ground.
The impact on the bird, as heavy as it was consequentially carried hefty impairment. This form was much more fragile than the human one than she'd like and at times, more trouble than it was worth. It was not the first time a wing broke, and Owleia would not expect it to be the last. But the pain and nature of such an injury rendered her unfit to morph back into her original form - also the form which was capable of defensive and restorative magic. Just great.
Shortly, running up to her was a boy, the evident culprit of this onslaught as he apologised hastily, the French language fluent on his tongue. If one would have spoken to her in the language a few years ago, Aurelia would not have interpreted it with such ease as she would now. Having connected with her real family history in recent years, Aurelia - and her great aunt Astrid, only saw fit that she learnt the mother language of the Notresvace. While not entirely fluent in her pronunciation of various words and her accent irregular and barely differing as of a non-native, she was improving.
Relief from the spell was provided with her bones mending and bruises healing almost in an instant. While grateful, Aurelia was still resentful regardless of this boy's seemingly genuine concern for his 'mistake'. What had driven him to draw his wand against an owl of all creatures? There was surely more rationale to such an action than the crude reason of animal abuse. Shifting, the speed of the entire transition only appeared to as a blur. Moments ago was an owl on the grass, now stood a sixteen-year-old girl. The ominous presence reeked from her and into the near atmosphere, devouring the summer warmth around with unsettling chills.
"You're not going anywhere till you explain yourself." Words of French spoken in a calm and assertive demeanour. The Notresvace heir wasn't messing around and this younger lad undoubtedly wouldn't try to either.

Maxi’s mouth dropped to a small “o” as soon as the owl shifted into a most charming girl, who looked just a few years advanced. He jumped up, and following this his wand lowered as well, and all he could do was to stare at the girl in silence - impolite, he knew it, but he just couldn’t help. Though grown up in a pureblood family it was still shocking enough to see someone a few years older than you transforming into an animal (alright, in this case was an animal back to a person) right using your own eyes. Maxi had to admit that “shocked” was the only word to describe his feelings - by both her ability and beauty. The girl was dazzling.
Still part of him knew that he had to say something to break the silence, something to show his sincerest apology. He felt extremely sorrowful for having hurt her, and it’s the least thing Maxi wanted to see such a charming young lady growing mad at him. “I - I…” Surely stuttering wasn’t the best choice now, but as what we’ve explained Maxi was in a state of unable to express or consider things clearly. Deciding to stop unfortunately and collect his own thoughts, Maxi lowered his eyes to the ground.
And in that second he realised two things.
First, this frightening large owl was actually a person. Second, this person who clearly wasn’t a fellow Beauxbatons student could converse in French.
-She’s just the one I’m looking for.
Then before he could relate her to the Notresvace family his grandfather had talked about a third thing flooded into his mind and finally occupied it.
-I would absolutely love to be friends with her.
“You - you are frightening large.” He suddenly raised his head up and uttered. “But, uh, that’s - epic, the owl and all that! It’s so incredible…” His volume gradually dropped, realising that it wasn’t an apology at all. “I mean, I’m so sorry…I didn’t know why, but I promise I didn’t mean to do it. It’s…an accident.” It’s easily to detect that the boy was on nettles, seeing how feeble an explanation was provided. He knew it, but he just couldn’t do better. He could have made up a story - he’s good at it, but…ah, he didn’t want to be seen as a liar.
Maxi was now 99% present sure that this was the Notresvace girl his grandfather requested him to find - what luck, by the way - and he wanted a confirmation. What did Monsieur le Comte remark on her and her family again? Dangerous? Okay, so her voice obviously sounded assertive, though Maxi didn’t plan to slip away from the scene at all himself, something called curiosity made him wish to stay and wait. Something inside told him that she’s not as threatening as his grandfather had described, and he would really, really love to get to know her.
“I -” Again he started then stopped before less than a syllable was pronounced. Maxi managed to squeeze a soft smile out, when everything was concluded into a single sentence with few words. Gently, he said, “you speak French fluently.”

Pea uses the pamphlet of activities she could do during the summer camp as a fan. Flapping the pamphlet towards her face, giving her a slight breeze of air towards her skin that has already started to turn red. She wishes she could have a golden tan skin for the summer, sadly her painfully albino skin does not allow it. So- what is the only thing she gets from this heat? only sweats and burnt skin. Ugh- this is why she hated summer.
The lists of itineraries didn't particularly give her excitement too. Most of the words on there just look like gibberish to her. So what now? she's just walking with no direction, while roasting in the hot sun, thinking of just going back to her boring tent.
But at that moment- a flash of dark spots flew above her. She looks up and saw familiar feathery wings magnificently flying across the tents. Suddenly, she felt a rush of energy coursing through her veins.
Is it? Can it be? But... Mr. Owl is probably sleeping in the owlery of Hogwarts right?
She rushed to follow the feathery creature, as she notice its claws perched on the nearby tent. As she was coming closer to greet the gigantic owl. A person was standing near the tent where the supposed Mr. Owl is sitting. Is that the owner of the owl? she thought. Hm- there is a chance that the owl is not the familiar owl she knew. But she is going to greet it anyway.
Suddenly, a shot of blue light shone brightly toward the owl. Pea was speechless. That person- THAT PERSON- JUST BLAST MR OWL WITH A SPELL!? at that moment she knew, that person could not possibly is its owner. She is strutting across the tents ready to throw a fit of anger towards the boy that just jinxed Mr. Owl.
As soon as she arrive at the scene of the crime, she had already pulled out her wand and directed it at the boy.
"HOW DARE YOU HURT AN INNOCENT OWL!" She screeched.
But-
The owl- Mr. Owl- suddenly turns into a girl. A girl... a human girl. What in the absolute hell is going on!? That- that could not possibly be Mr. Owl isn't it!? Mr. Owl is not an Animagus? Nope- nope she's never going to believe it.
"I- WHAT!?" At this point, she just let out confusing noises as she struggled to piece together the puzzle in her head.

He was trying to explain himself, but someone clearly didn’t trust him at all. No, he was not speaking of Mademoiselle Animagus, but some young pale-haired girl who rushed towards him and pulled her wand at him. The girl who was screeching, which made his head ache. Overzealous? Or not? He didn’t know, but she was possibly right at it.How dare he hurt an innocent owl? His grandfather’s order, and his own impulsiveness. He admitted that he was wrong, but it was his only way to stop it - or rather, her. He never regretted it though, having completed his grandfather’s quest - he really didn’t know what would possibly become of him if he failed. Grandfather’s order was an order, not a request. That was different, he knew it. But he also decided that after completing his grandfather’s quest he was now at liberty to try socialising a little bit - a friend or a foe - sorry, two friends or foes, that was completely up to him.
Shifting his eyes from the elder girl to the younger, shocked was perhaps the only word to describe the poor girl who had just joined the feud. Maxi watched her falling into great astonishment, and shrugged slightly. He was just as well amazed seeing a real Animagus switching their form in front of him - but really, she couldn’t have been that astonished as if the whole world shook, could she? What a poor young lady. “…yeah, what?” He repeated after the girl, rather motionlessly. “I was - I…I did apologise.” He grumbled. “I promised that it was an accident and I didn’t mean to do it. At all.” He stressed, hoping that the Animagus girl - or Mademoiselle Notresvace, for he was rather sure of it now - could believe him. If Miss pale-hair could believe him also it would be even better, for though she screamed at him prior Maxi hadn’t really formed on opinion on her. He wouldn’t mind getting to know a second person today, if permitted - his friendship circle was small. Hopefully, they would all forgive him. And so he slowly raised his eyelids and looked sincerely at Aurelia with seldom glances towards Pea, sincerely hoping that his explanations could be accepted.

One that was all too familiar. The feeling returned in a split moment as the part-veela neared, even if she weren't in her usual owl form when she encountered the alluring charm she exuded. It was pleasant, the way it clouded her thoughts slightly, clearing everything around her into archive but the beauty in front of her. Such Aurelia had always been so susceptible to, which wasn't quite ideal when she was in the middle of reprimanding this boy who had just shot her out of the sky mid-flight.
Focus.
Still, on the ground, Aurelia stood, brushing herself off. "I was just asking him the same thing." Her guise needed to be preserved. Pea was confused, for surely she thought that the owl he had just shot down was her dear friend, Mr. Owl. It was. Having spent numeral hours with Pea in owl form, unbeknownst to the younger Slytherin, the owl she doted on and named Mr. Owl, was a Gryffindor witch hiding as an animagus just to partake that, oh so lovely effects of her charm. It was hard to shake the fog off her head, finding her gaze on the veela every few seconds, no matter how hard she tried to pry them off and onto the boy whose violence should be the main concern.
With the boy looking at her, likely in a plea to back him up as he defended himself again, this time in an accented English. She heaved a sigh. "She knows me very well as an Owl. But only an owl. I suppose you've just shot down her good friend - if she knew. Mind keeping it a secret?" She said to the boy with a brief wink, taking the chance that Pea did not know French. "Yas, an apology that I have yet to accept. Um, you look like you've seen a ghost, are you alright?" Some gaslighting couldn't hurt.

Mr. Owl
The white-haired looks completely lost. She did not know if what she just witnessed are just a mere delusion or in fact.. real? No that could not be real. Because none of it made sense in her head. She thought she saw a dear friend, Mr. Owl. The bird that she has come to care for as she told the bird all of her distressing stories. And she thought she saw it got hit by the knockback jinx, courtesy of this French boy. But when she comes closer, all she sees is a girl, laying on the ground, instead... of an owl she knows. Just a stranger girl who she doesn't even know. Pea was confused that she didn't really pay attention to what the boy is saying.
"I-" She stutters still refusing to believe everything she just saw, Pea proceeds to assume that Mr. Owl might've managed to escape or the spell missed him. After producing that conclusion in her head, she finally hears a final apology that the boy said, “I promised that it was an accident and I didn’t mean to do it. At all.” Now that is a complete lie. How is it an accident, where she clearly saw that the boy is pointing his wand directly at Mr. Owl. Attempting to erase her recent confusing memories, all her rage is coming back now. What happened if he actually manage to hit Mr. Owl!? What if Mr. Owl is actually ancient and didn't survive the fall? what if his wings are broken and he could not soar majestically in the sky again?
"That definitely didn't seem like an accident to me!" The white-haired says, now back in her higher tone, "You clearly pointing your wand at the owl. Are you terrified of owls or something!?" Pea continues with the same tone but also with a minor scoff. At the same time, she also moves her gaze to the girl next to him. She definitely looks several years older than her, and she looks mature but not much taller than her, perhaps a senior in Hogwarts that she has yet to meet. The girl has long brown hair and- a pretty face too. Something that she notices right away. A look that could compete with her perhaps, but she didn't give too much thoughts on it for now. "You saw it too right?? He attacked an owl! Is that your owl?" Yes that might be it, it could might just be any random gigantic owl that a student own, it might not even be Mr. Owl. Yes, that is definitely the more reasonable explanation.

When the young girl started screaming again, Maxi knew that things were now out of control. At least, if Mademoiselle Notresvace wasn’t planning to lend a hand to him, he’d obviously first get drowned and sentenced a nice exile in this girl’s hands. He eyed the elder girl in plea - thanks goodness, she was at last speaking. And in French. This was certainly a much celebrated thing for Maxi in this dilemma, for 1) it’s certain now that this was indeed a descent of the Notresvace and 2) she was inquiring him to keep her Animagus identity a secret and obviously wasn’t planning to investigate into the thing any further then 3) he didn’t think the white-haired beauty could understand French. Good. Very good. The knight saved by a princess.
“O - of course, Mademoiselle!” He blurted out, stuttering a little. And at this point he had decided that Mademoiselle Notresvace was a nice person, and would be an ally - she wasn’t scary at all! And even if he did attack her just now (again, he was very sorry for that), she was now helping him to get out from the endless condemnation from the white-haired girl.
He frowned when she clang to her view of him being terrified of or having a special hatred to owls. “Huh…? I don’t think I am.” He thought for a moment seriously and answered. “Actually, owls are gorgeous creatures…Have you seen them setting out for a night hunt at half past eleven pm?” His voice started going dreamy, as if chanting a poem. Oh no, day-dreaming Maxi at your service. “They seek, they prey, they capture. Those sharp eyes, those keen senses, those eloquent squeaks - sometimes I wish I’d be an owl.” He concluded sincerely. His behaviour didn’t seem indicating that he was acting - and in truth he was not. The thing poor Pea had witnessed was a little…complex.
He shook his head slightly when the girl turned to Notresvace for help. Mademoiselle Notresvace, the owl’s owner? What a joke. Though according to Mademoiselle Notresvace’s instructions he kept silent on this subject. Not the slightest hint of him knowing the truth. The girl was already heartbroken seeing him attacking the owl, and…he couldn’t help but think, what would she say if she’d ever find out that her favourite owl was actually a person? Maxi eyed Pea with a complicated manner, before suddenly feeling excited about one thing.
Story plot. A girl loving an owl sincerely and eventually finding out the owl was just an eidolon. Very suitable for an idyll - he’d try if he could compose it out in a few days, actually. He was feeling inspired.
And so Maxi simply stared at the two girls with great interest. He should try and find if he would be able to capture some amazing expressions shown on their faces and copy them down to his poem…
