Where She Shouldn’t Be PV Chloe Baggins Closed

Since her first day at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Dinah had been dying to explore every inch of the castle and the grounds.
She was eager to find all the hidden spaces that were isolated from the passing student, or perhaps good places to hide should any teachers walk by while she was up to no good. What secrets did the walls hide? Were there hidden passages behind the tapestries? Dinah desperately wanted to discover all she could about the magical school and maybe if she was lucky, find some interesting things as she did.

With this in mind, Dinah had headed straight to the second floor toilets after finishing her charms homework. Everyone knew they were abandoned but the reasons why varied from person to person. Some said it was haunted, others claimed that a particularly nasty, dangerous creature lurked in the stalls and was known to attack if disturbed. Dinah wasn’t sure if any of these were truthful and felt the older students explanation that the toilets just never worked so no one went in there was a little more plausible.
Despite that, she felt inclined to at least have a look around and see. Who knew? Maybe there was some interesting objects or a hidden secret that she could discover.

Glancing up and down the corridor to make sure that there wasn’t any prefects or teachers nearby (she wasn’t sure if students were allowed in these bathrooms), Dinah pushed the door and slipped inside.

Wow...”

Her eyes roamed the wide room, stopping momentarily on each stall door. One by the far end of the room had been knocked off its hinges and was laying in various wooden pieces across the tile floor. It seemed that had happened a long time ago as a thick layer of dust lay over them, undisturbed.

The sinks nearby also looked worse for wear. Dinah took a few tentative steps closer to the porcelain basins and turned one of the taps. She supposed that once upon a time they had been a gleaming silver like the ones in the other toilets but these had succumbed to years of dirt and grime embedded into the metal. Regardless, a steady stream of water fell from it as she turned it. It had a distinct brown colour that Dinah didn’t like to think about and so she turned the tap back off again and looked instead up at the mirror in front of her.

Had she wanted to view her reflection, she would have struggled. Like the rest of the room the glass was covered in dirt and dust and some rather worrying spots that seemed distinctly red in colour. There was a large crack down the middle and lots of little cracks branched from it, making it look almost weblike.

Dinah ran her finger down the thick crack, her other hand twitching excitedly at what might have created such a large fissure, when a loud bang from behind her made her jump where she stood.

Ahh!
Her finger had slipped on the crack and she hissed as the sharp edge of the mirror slid through her finger, creating a small cut that immediately started to bleed.

With a frown she glanced to the door to see who or what exactly had caused the casualty.

Chloe had always loved to explore, she was just always worried about getting into trouble. That morning, when she woke up, she decided to be brave. Chloe decided to explore the abandoned toilets. She felt it would make her extra brave, because no one really knew why they were abandoned. Some people said they were haunted. Maybe so, Chloe decided she would go find out when she got through with her classes.

Chloe slowly made her way to the abandoned toilets. As she stopped in front of the door, she reached her hand out. Chloe hesitated, pulling it back for a moment as she looked around, wanting to make sure she didn't get caught. She took a deep breath and grabbed the door handle, opening the door wide. She stepped inside and looked around, not seeing the girl that was already in there exploring. It was grimy, looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in years. She let go of the door, letting it close behind her. She heard it slam shut with a loud BANG. Chloe jumped when she realized she wasn't alone.

"Ahh!" She saw the girl standing in front of the mirror, holding her finger. She looked at the girl's face and turned red. The girl didn't look happy with her at all.

"I'm-I'm so sorry.. I didn't mean to scare you..." Chloe couldn't get her apology out fast enough. She walked towards the girl cautiously, hoping the girl didn't try to curse her or anything. "I didn't know there was anyone in here.."Chloe felt her face turn red.

A girl seeming the same age as Dinah with fair skin that clashed nicely with her long dark hair was stood at the other end of the bathroom. It seemed she was the cause of the finger-cutting noise and was poised nervously by the door.

“I’m- I’m so sorry... I didn’t mean to scare you...” The girl walked closer to Dinah, expressing her apologies. She looked terrified, like Dinah was about to pull out her wand and turn her into a frog or something. Even if she knew how to do that, she wouldn’t. It was her own fault for being unaware of her surroundings that her finger was cut, not the girls.

It’s fine, don’t worry. I should have been more careful.” Dinah sighed, looking around for some tissue to put to the small bubble of blood hanging from her finger.

The girls face had turned an odd shade of red and Dinah could tell she really did feel sorry.

“I didn’t know there was anyone in here.” The girl explained.

Unable to find any tissue, Dinah resorted to sticking the finger in her mouth and sucking. It was a little gross but it wasn’t the first time she’d had to resort to desperate measures.

I don’t think I’m supposed to be here...I was just...uh, exploring.” Saying it out loud, she was worried the girl might find her childish.

She rubbed the back of her neck nervously, hoping it was only her that could feel the tense air between them.

I’m Dinah by the way.” She decided the best way to combat it was to introduce herself. “Did you come to use the toilets? I’m not sure that they work...

Chloe relaxed when she realized the girl wasn't going to curse her or hurt her. She smiled slightly as she listened to the girl talk.

I don’t think I’m supposed to be here...I was just...uh, exploring. I’m Dinah by the way. Did you come to use the toilets? I’m not sure that they work...”

Chloe caught herself laughing. She had forgotten where they were already. She shook her head and smiled again. "I came to explore too..." She chuckled. "I heard it was haunted, and I wanted to see if it was true."

Chloe took another look around the bathrooms, looking for any sign it was actually haunted. She looked at the mirror where the girl had cut her finger, then looked back at the girl with her finger in her mouth. She frowned. "Did I make you cut your finger? I didn't even realize..."She looked down, ashamed of the fact that she actually made the girl hurt herself.

She walked a little closer to the girl and felt in her robe pockets. Maybe she had a bandage in one of them? She had always been clumsy and was constantly hurting herself, so she usually carried stuff in her pockets. She smiled as she felt one and pulled it out, handing it to the girl.

"I'm always hurting myself, so I keep these with me a lot." Chloe chuckled, thinking about her own clumsiness.

The girl had only seemed to notice now that the mirror had cut Dinahs finger when she jumped. She advanced towards Dinah, her hands fumbling in her robes for something.

Oh it’s okay. It’s just a small cut. My own fault really.” Dinah muttered, shrugging as the girl neared.

The girl smiled and held out her hand which in it was a bandage. “I’m always hurting myself, so I keep these with me a lot.”

Hesitantly Dinah took the bandage from the girls hand, offering a small smile and a thank you. She quickly unwrapped it and placed the bandage on her finger, covering the cut and protecting it from any danger of infection.

That’s really kind of you, thanks.” Dinah said, smiling. She’d known little niceness in her muggle life but it seemed here at Hogwarts it was in abundance. “I heard this place is haunted too - that’s why I came here. I was curious to see if it was true but I haven’t seen any ghosts so far.”

Glancing around at the bathrooms, Dinah again noted the way the end stall door seemed to have been ripped from its hinges and one of the sinks had been destroyed into little pieces of porcelain across the tiled floor.

I also heard some kind of creature lives in here.” Dinah said, her voice now lowered to a murmur just in case. “I haven’t seen one of them either but it sure looks like something’s been at work here.”

Chloe realized the girl had introduced herself and gasped, realizing she hadn't done the same. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to ignore you or be rude! I'm Chloe." She chuckled slightly and looked over at the stall door Dinah had looked at.

"I would definitely say there's something in here. We should stake it out and find out." She raised her eyebrows, following the girl's lead and lowering her voice as she talked. "This would be a super interesting experience, if we find out for sure what actually lives in here." She smiled, examining the sink in front of her. She ran her fingers along the rim of the basin, collecting dirt and dust on her finger. She wiped her finger off, watching the stalls. She was hoping to see some sort of sign something else was in there with them, but she was terrified at the same time.

Chloe glanced back over at Dinah before taking a step toward the stall. She wanted to seem brave in front of the girl. She also wanted to examine the door closer. She took a deep breath and took out her wand, just in case. She didn't know any spells, but maybe if something were to attack them, she could just wave her wand wildly and it would do something. She wanted to try to protect herself.

As the girl introduced herself Dinah smiled. She hadn’t thought her the least bit rude, in fact she’d hardly noticed the girl hadn’t introduced herself until she mentioned it. She supposed it was only natural that in the commotion of the two of them entering the toilets, certain niceties were forgotten.

Nice to meet you, Chloe.” She greeted politely. “Do you think we’ll be able to find out the mystery of this place? I bet older students have tried before us. I hope it’s not something as boring as the toilets just don’t work...”

She let her voice trail off as she reached the end of her train of thought and glanced around the toilets apprehensively. Who knew if there was even anything to discover in here, but they wouldn’t know if they didn’t look. Dinah couldn’t lie - she felt much more confident about searching the place with another person by her side.

Chloe seemed nice and friendly and clearly up for adventure as she too had been coming to explore the bathroom. Dinah thought of all the students that could have come into the toilets and knew that Chloe was one of the better ones.

She watched as the Hufflepuff ran her finger through the dirt coating the sink. The dark residue stuck heavily to her finger until she wiped it away on the fabric of her robes.

The girl glanced at Dinah before stepping confidently towards the stall with the destroyed door. She noticed Chloe had drawn her wand and thinking that was probably a good idea, Dinah did the same. She tiptoed after Chloe, her back half facing the direction they were walking and half facing they way they’d come. Who knew if the whatever it was that lived in here would sneak up behind them?

Trying to be as brave as Chloe was being, Dinah fixed a defiant look on her face and held her wand high. She didn’t know many spells, only what she’d read in books but she was willing to give it a go.

As the pair neared the seemingly empty stall, Dinah paused.

Did you hear that?” She whispered, her eyes searching around for the source of the noise she’d just heard. It had been a hiss? Or a whoosh? She couldn’t be completely sure but she had definitely heard something. She only hoped Chloe had too and that she wasn’t going completely mad.

Chloe nodded, shrugging. She did hope they could figure something out about this bathroom. "I sure hope so. I'm really interested in this. This is super interesting." The pair kept moving closer to the stall cautiously. She looked back as Dinah stopped walking and frowned. The girl looked scared, she couldn't figure out what had happened. "What? What happened?" Chloe looked from Dinah to the stall, concerned and confused.

Did you hear that?

Chloe stood silently, trying to figure what the girl had heard. She didn't hear it. Chloe shook her head and kept waiting. Maybe the noise would happen again.

She heard it. Chloe gasped, looking back at Dinah with wide eyes. "What was that?" She actually didn't know what it was. It was a weird, terrifying noise. The girl bit her lip, slightly terrified. She didn't know any spells that would protect them! She aimed her wand at the stall, trying to hold her hand still, but it was shaking. She took a deep breath and stepped just a bit closer. She heard the noise again. It was like something was moving fast through there. Like the sound the wind makes when its blowing really hard. She gasped again.

When Chloe shook her head indicating she hadn’t heard the noise, Dinah felt a sinking feeling in her stomach. Maybe it was just her overactive imagination playing tricks on her. Maybe she wanted something to happen so badly she was making it up?

No, there it was again and Dinah could tell Chloe had definitely heard it that time. She had gasped and looked round at Dinah, her eyes wide.

“What was that?”

Dinah wasn’t sure. It didn’t sound like anything she’d heard before. She was pretty sure ghosts moved silently unless they were intentionally trying to scare them and it didn’t sound like any creature Dinah had come across before. That being said, she hadn’t been in the wizarding world long enough to come across many creatures.

Dinah could see Chloe’s wand hand was shaking as they neared the bathroom stall. She had to admit there was a sense of fright as she felt goosebumps rise on her arms under her robes and knew it had nothing to do with the temperature.

Running through all the lessons she’d had so far in her head, she realised she didn’t know anything that would help them should they be attacked in here. Would a sneezing hex work against a ghost? She doubted it but it was all she had in her arsenal.

The noise whipped through the air again and Dinah hand jumped to grab Chloe’s arm. She felt heat rise to her cheeks and looked at the floor, a little embarrassed.

Sorry...um...accident.” She mumbled, removing her hand and turning her attention to the stall door.

Look! Look, did you see that?” All feelings of embarrassment dissipated as she pointed wildly towards the bathroom stall where she had just seen something fly past. “There was something there, I saw it. It was sort of...see through?

Her description was vague at best, but she’d only caught a glimpse of whatever it had been before it had disappeared again. Even though she seemed to be filled with a sense of fright, she couldn’t help but feel very excited as well.

Chloe heard the noise again and jumped as Dinah grabbed her arm. She laughs a little, trying to seem braver than she actually was. Her breath was shaky as the two girls saw the strange figure in front of them. She nodded when Dinah asked if she saw the shape. It was indeed almost see-through. "It was big, whatever it was..." Chloe took a deep breath, taking a step back away from the stall nervously.

She didn't know any spells that would help. Her plan would be to just wildly wave her wand until something happened.

Chloe took another step back, ending up with her back against the wall. She stared at the stall in front of the pair, her eyes daring something to come out. Suddenly, Chloe felt something on her neck. She caught her breath in the back of her throat and froze, terrified to turn around to see what it was touching her. She tightened her grip on her wand.

"Dinah...." She whispered, her voice shaking. She jumped forward and turned quickly, only seeing a cobweb beside where she was standing. Chloe closed her eyes and breathed out deeply, laughing at herself for being so scared of a cobweb, and turned back around.
