Theatre Arts, A Class OOC

Please Read: Reducio This is an OOC club- not an IC club. I want to let you know... you are not mandated to participate at all. I am not creating a Google Classrooms or a Zoom or a Google Meet. We can talk over discord- I can join in through Video chat if you want- only if you want. Like I said- I am not requiring any of it at all. Just simply read the lessons and practice if you want. When I say "assignment" sometimes- i am referring to the assignment at the end of the lesson.

Our Purpose: Reducio To teach others about theater- or to provide a review if needed. This is meant to improve ones knowledge in the art of theater. (ill add more when I remember)

The Course Reducio Basic to Advanced lessons August | September | October Getting Started - Theater Notebook (Playgoing Log (for everyone), Acting Notes (highlights I point out), Directing & Producing Notes (highlights I point out), Technical Theatre Notes (highlights I point out)) - Short Recap on history of theater (no notes needed at all- just the reason for why we have theater) Acting - Self Awareness - "The Ensemble Ethic" (pretty much how to put trust in others and others have their trust in you- along with a few exercises) - Basic Movements - Pantomime Directing and Producing - What Is A Director/Producer? (Tips, tricks, and techniques- might have a mock audition if wanted) - WORKING WITH THE SCRIPT- actor's edition (x.x this is pretty much a guide to understanding scripts but also occurs after auditions) - Acting Styles - Rehersal Process - The Performance Directing and Producing - Director's Promptbook (I spend too much time around my teacher to know about this- so- not required obv) - Play's Purpose - Introducing the Stage Manager - Self Dedication (very important omg- can't have a director give up on a cast x.x) - Creating A Director's Journal (An activity you might find useful + fun! I do!) Reducio

Ad Lib: to make up words not already in the script. If a director tells you to ad lib, what she means is ignore the script and say something your character would say
Beat: a moment- If the script says, “a beat,” then that means take a small pause before you say your next line
Blocking - stage movement- where you stand and when to move and to what position
Center Stage - right in the middle of the stage
Cross - when you move from one spot on the stage to another spot (blocking)
Cue- any signal that it is your turn to speak or move.
Curtain Call - at the end of the play - bow and wave
Dialogue - lines from your script
Director - The person who is in charge of the play or film. He or she instructs the actors, set designers, and every other person/part of the play or film
Downstage - the front of the stage closest to the audience (opposite of upstage)
Dress Rehearsal - the last rehearsal before the play opens - full costume, full tech
Entrance - walk on stage
Exit- to leave the stage
Focus - putting all your attention on one thing. If the director yells “focus”, they mean to listen up
Gesture - the way you move your arms and hands
Green Room - the room where actors hang out, waiting to go on stage
Hand Props - small items used by the actor.
House - the part of the theater where the audience sits
Improvisation - acting without a script - making it up as you go along
Lines - the words you speak from the script - memorize
Monologue - A character’s long speech
Off Book - being able to act without your script
Offstage - the parts of the stage the audience can’t see
Opening - the 1st performance of a play
Projection - to speak loud enough for the audience to hear you
Run -Through- a nonstop rehearsal of a play
Spotlight- a bright light
Stage Left - when you are standing center stage facing the audience, stage left is to your left
Stage Right - when you are standing center stage facing the audience, stage right is to your right
Top - the beginning
Upstage - the back of the stage (near the wall) - opposite of downstage
Wings - the sides of a stage - actors should not be seen in the wings
