As the weather was finally starting to heat up, Ellory found herself outside enjoying the comfortable temperatures more and more. She spent enough of her day inside as it was due to classes, so she was glad to have some fresh air. It also helped that the grounds were basically the perfect place to sketch, with all the lush greenery, the wildlife, and of course the beautiful serenity of the lake.
Ellory had found a spot on the ground under a tree, where she now sat with her legs crossed in front of her. Lately she had been working on a sketch of her and her sister to give to her parents for their anniversary which was coming up in a couple of months. Though she always found plenty of things wrong with her own art, her parents seemed to like it a good amount and had actually requested she draw something for them. She supposed that was how it was with every parent, though; they had a tendency to be blind to their own children's inadequacies.
As Ellory had both hands in her bag to try and dig out her shading quill, a particularly strong wind picked up and blew the paper clear out of her lap and up into a branch above her. "Oh no!" she groaned, mentally kicking herself for not keeping a firm grip on it. She reached as high as she could, but her fingers just barely missed the edge of the parchment. She jumped and hit at it with her hand, but it wouldn't budge.
Exasperated, Ellory took a look around her and saw that there was a boy nearby that seemed to be just slightly taller than her. She was normally adamantly against approaching strangers for any reason, but desperate time meant desperate measures. With a deep breath, she waived at him and said, "Erm, hi! with a timid smile. "My parchment just flew into that branch there, and I can't reach it. Normally I'd just let it go, but it's pretty important..." The desperation was evident in her voice. "I hate to be a bother, but could you please see if you're able to reach it really quick?"

Hogwarts had been fairly calm, mostly uneventful, for the most part. Aside from some talk and rumors about a mysterious masked individual, who was apparently attacking students, it had been a quiet time for the prefects. Still, the vigilant were rewarded, and Sebastian knew that easing up on his duties would invite the potential for things to proverbially snowball and get out of control; so, despite the reprieve, the Slytherin continued about his patrols - he had a duty, especially to the small pin on his chest, with the green shield and silver 'P'.
No students trying to swim in the Great Lake, Sebastian thought to himself, as he glanced toward the water. Lately things were getting colder, so swimming would probably be a bad idea. Not to mention any number of creatures living down there, ready to grab unaware legs.
Sebastian smirked, as he jotted down some notes in his patrol book. Despite the fact the boy had an impressive capacity for recalling events witnessed, that didn't mean others weren't asking for reports to be made and kept. So, despite feeling it was a waste of his time, Sebastian made sure to keep detailed information from each patrol, no matter how exciting or not.
I might see if I can chase down some leads on the masked ma--
A voice from a short distance away brought the Slytherin back to the present, his mind elsewhere. He smiled, listening as the Gryffindor asked him for assistance in grabbing a parchment sheet from a nearby tree. Sebastian looked up, silver-blue eyes seeing the paper quickly enough, before he nodded.
"Hello," Sebastian said, as he put the pad into the bag slung across his shoulder. "And it's fine, today has been a very boring one so far. I can give it a shot, sure."
Sebastian walked over to the tree, considering. The wind was still blowing, swaying the branches and leaves, but the paper had been wedged firmly. With a practiced ease, the boy removed his bag, placed it on the ground, and then bent down to leap - and with a grunt, shoes pushing off the grass, Sebastian reached out with one hand... and missed the paper.
It was too high.
Not to be defeated, Sebastian looked around. He had another idea. The Slytherin reached into his bag, producing his wand, as he held the comfortable weight firmly in hand. The silver runes spiraling along the dark wood shimmered in the light, even as Sebastian bent down and made another leap; this time, however, he reached out pointing his wand, which added another foot to his reach --
"Got it!"
-- And catching the parchment, he nudged it just enough to have it fall down. But, the wind was still blowing, and the light paper caught it, and began swirling and flipping toward the nearby lake...
"Quickly, catch it," Sebastian called. "It's getting away."
The boy pointed, as he prepared to run after the fleeing object, but noted that the Gryffindor was closer, though, and probably had more chance of grabbing it before the water...

”Thank you very much!”, she smiled politely at the boy who had agreed to help her. With all the recent talk of attacks and mysterious masked figures, it was good to know that there were still plenty of students who wanted to help. All of it made Ellory quite frightened, so much that she almost wanted to leave Hogwarts altogether. The only thing that she was hoping for was that, to some extent, her fellow students still had each others’ backs.
It seemed that the boy was having just as much, if not more, trouble reaching the paper than Ellory had. She observed him for a moment as he took out his wand. His eyes were fairly distinct; a perfect mix of blue and silver. There was something glinting on his robes, which she recognized as a prefect’s badge as she looked closer. She knew she had seen him in classes before, but they had never spoken. Truthfully, Ellory didn’t speak much to anyone.
Immediately after the paper was freed, it got caught in the wind once more and was now tumbling towards the black lake.
”NO!” she yelled after it, as if it could hear and obey directions.
Ellory sprinted after the paper, swatting and swiping at it, determined to not let it go into the black lake. Just as she made a particularly big leap, the wind changed direction and blew the paper right back into her face, causing her to lose balance completely and stumble to the ground.
Gripping the paper tightly in her hand, Ellory slowly made her way back to her feet while nursing a seriously bruised ego. ”Erm, I’m sorry about that,” she laughed nervously while determinedly avoiding eye contact and choosing to stare at a particularly interesting rock on the ground instead. She wasn’t really sure what she was apologizing for, but somehow it seemed appropriate. ”Thank you again. I don’t know what I’d do if I lost this.” Just thinking about all the hours that would have been wasted made her head hurt. ”Erm, my name is Ellory, by the way.”

Sebastian furrowed his eyebrows as he watched the paper float and spin, and started to run after it, before the owner did the same - if a little more enthusiastically. Which was understandable, really, considering it was likely homework or some personal notation. Still, the Slytherin felt awkward at the fact whatever it was might end up in the lake nearby, as the wind--
--changed direction, and the paper landed on the girl's face, causing her to fall.
"Oh, good," Sebastian said as he walked over to stand near, and was about to offer a hand, but stopped when she had it under control. "You got it."
As the Gryffindor got back to her feet, Sebastian noted she wasn't making eye contact and seemed distracted and bumbling. It seemed there was no end to the number of students who were shy or otherwise unwilling to put themselves into uncomfortable situations; Sebastian could understand, of course, but he had been thrust into high-class Pure-blood machinations from a young age, so his days of being naive were short.
"Why are you apologizing?" Sebastian asked, eyebrow raised. "And it's good to meet you, Ellory. I'm Sebastian, one of the prefects for Slytherin. And it was nothing, really... just helping another student in need."
For a moment, the boy stood still, unsure if he should leave or continue speaking. Sebastian put his hands into his pockets, tucking the edges of his coat back against his sides, before he decided that the girl was interesting enough to talk with a while longer - and he also wanted to know what was so important about that piece of parchment...
"It seems pretty important," Sebastian continued, glancing down to the paper held in her hands. "What is it? A letter from your family, or an advanced spell, or something?"
Given the number of possible options, Sebastian was at a loss as to what to guess. It could literally have been anything, from some dark ritual to a piece of paper to make folded animals; and given the boy's natural curiosity, it was a nice distraction from wandering around and looking to stop trouble.
