Vivienne was growing increasingly frustrated the longer she spent stuck in these vines, unable to get out of them. She didn’t know what else to do, since trying to pull herself free was clearly fruitless, so she decided to cast Lumos on the plant, but that didn’t work either. Vivienne groaned, the vines needlessly stubborn and unwilling to let her get free.

One of the students from Ilvermorny had managed to pull free, which made Vivienne all the more frustrated. She was battered and bruised, which certainly didn’t help in any way, but she really should not spend anymore time just sat here, tangled in vines. At least her teammate managed to get free. Taking a deep breath, Vivienne tried to hype herself up. She’d be able to get out of these vines, it’ll be fine. She could do this.

Andrew would take it slow again, rather focusing to assist his teammates than trying to catch up. Another ascension spell- maybe Andrew was taking inspiration from the other team- was flying through the air and hit Stephen.

Irina was the next to reach the thorns and passed them quickly. In fact, they didn't seem to be a challenge for the older girl at all.

Finally Irina reached the vines too and like most of the others managed to get herself tangled- luckily it only took her a moment to get out again. Poor Vivienne was not that lucky, but even the vines couldn't stop her from grabbing a branch nearby to throw at Stephen. Irina would point her wand at her teammate and cast the Bandaging Spell at her.
Fyodor, who was now free of vines would also take his chance to grab an branch and throw it at his opponent- not as successfully at Vivienne. Stephen would try to cast Flipendo at Fyodor in return, but missed the boy by far.

Alexi was still leading the race, flying ahead, faster and faster. Maybe just a little too fast.

After colliding with the thorns, the young man was not done yet. Next up were some trees that he clearly was not prepared for. When he came out on the other side, he would be visibly bruised and scratched.

What the holy heckballz?!?!

Two things began to happen simultaneously. At least, that is how it felt to a slightly discombobulated Stephen. Something cracked hard against his right temple and ear, causing an immediate warm rush to both areas and a fuzzy kind of light-headedness. He shook his head, which turned out not to be the best of ideas as a rush of pain hit and went directly to his stomach in an unwelcome wave of nausea.

He had it together enough that he could tell he was still on his broom…. wait. On his broom? Why was he on his broom? Oh, yeah. He was racing. At least he thought he remembered he was racing. Maybe he actually was unconscious and this was all a dream. Unconscious was beginning to look like it might be the case as he became aware that everything and everyone around him was becoming smaller as he was rising up into the sky, still on his broom. How was this even possible? Why was he rising? Had he…. died? Sleep was sounding like the thing he wanted to do most in the world in that moment, but then he caught sight of someone not too far from him, also on a broom, and it all came back to him in an instant.

YES! He was in the middle of a broom race!

Get it together, Schwartz. This is almost over. And seeing his opponent about to take a great lead, Stephen’s competitive drive kicked in once again and all light-headedness was momentarily put aside. There was more important business to focus on right then, and focus he would.

It honestly felt as if Vivienne had been struggling with these vines for her entire life, yet they still would not loosen their grip on her and she still couldn't get out. Even so, she decided she could still do something to hopefully aid her teammates. Reaching over, she grabbed ahold of a branch and hurled it right at one of the Ilvermorny boys, her aim practically perfect as the branch hit him with full force. She smiled to herself, proud of her perfect aim.

Her teammate, Irina, had managed to get out of the vines (lucky her, Vivienne clearly didn't have that luck) and was kind enough to cast the Bandaging Spell at Vivienne. "Thank you!" Vivienne shouted at her, even as she was still trying her hardest to get out of the vines. Hopefully one of her teammates could take the lead and win this race for them.

Irina was on the move! Well sort of. Her goal was to get into a better position, but she couldn’t forget about her fellow teammates. Watching Vivienne bleed out, Irina knew she had to do something, so she took out her wand and cast the bandaging charm at her. Covering Vivienne’s wounds in bandages. Feeling slightly better, Irina continued on her flying journey. She was currently tied for 2nd with her teammate Alexi in first, there was no way they didn’t win this.

XXXLuckily, the vines proved relenting. Fedya fought his way out of the confines that held him, clawing tooth and nail to free himself.

Obviously, he wouldn’t leave well enough alone. Fedya flung a vine at Stephen, to no avail. It didn’t land.

Stephen’s retaliation was Flipendo. Fedya huffed in frustration and swerved out of the way, managing to miss the spell before it had a chance to land.

XXXThere was hardly any glory in the lack of pain. Alexi was hurting, aching, shaking, but he’d never let anyone (teammate or otherwise) know that he was struggling. As far as anyone knew, Alexi Petrov didn’t feel pain.

The wind whipped at his hair and into his face as he sailed through the air, far ahead of both teammates and competitors. He was moving, really moving, trumping the efforts of everyone who surrounded him.

That is, of course, until he hit the vines. They weren’t particularly difficult, honestly, but the effects of the scrapes and bumps and bruises from the trees would yield awfully telling.

One racer would stay behind- Stephen. It seemed as though he was trying to get a better aim at the ascended boy, Fyodor, but there was just one problem- Fyodor would not stay still. In a matter of seconds he would be too far away, out of Stephen's reach.
But Vivienne finally had her little moment of success- it took effort and strength, but the young girl finally managed to pull herself free from the vines.

The two Koldovbatons girls would reach the thorns, passing them as if it was nothing- seemed like nothing could go wrong anymore, right? Well, almost. Vivienne would turn and look back at one of the Ilvermorny racers, Andrew. For a moment one could have thought she wanted to cast a spell at him, but at that distance, it would have never hit.

After passing the thorns, Irina wasn't done just yet. She would be the next to approach the wall of trees that were standing quite close together- maybe she underestimated it just a bit?

The long leader of the race was fighting his way through the last obstacles. After facing trees, thorns and a Whomping Willow, a little wind couldn't be so hard, could it?

Ever the optimist, Stephen was also a realist. Victory would not be theirs today. Goliath would win, and win quite handily. He grimaced as his spell missed its intended mark and watched in dread as his opponent flew unimpeded well ahead of him. It was annoying, sure, but the flyer in him marveled at all that was suddenly now taking place on the course. He thought for certain it would literally be game over, but most surprisingly, the lone racer who had actually tackled all of the beastly obstacles the course offered seemed to have succumbed to his injuries just before crossing the finish line. Hard luck that.

Stephen gave a small nod to a true competitor.... someone who gave it their all and left it all on the field. He of course did not like to lose, but he did like a good competition. This game had started like that, he felt, but the Ilvermorny tapestry of teamwork soon unraveled.

He looked back over his shoulder, searching for his own teammates, but his vision telescoped on him when he did and more head pain barked at him. He could not focus on them in that moment, so he quickly turned back around. Perhaps they, themselves, had also succumbed to injuries. He did not honestly know, but he hoped not.

One way or another, he would know shortly.

Irina was just having fun. Multiple members of the other team had stopped flying a while ago, so it was becoming more of a race to the finish. She was hoping that her teammate Alexi would secure the victory, but he was so far ahead that she couldn’t help heal him and he passed out due to his injuries. Now that meant she was in first with Fedya who was way above her. However, Irina didn’t care if she was the one to cross the finish line, she only cared that it was her team that finished first.
