Hair on fire! Oh, how wickedly poignant a punishment to put onto a young girl's shoulders. It was clear that Dorian seemed to think the girl had some kind of attachment to her hair, or treated it well enough that firery sparks on top of the hair would be an extreme vexation to whoever the hufflepuff girl was, and would cause discomfort to her hair, and possible burning or lose of hair. Although not keen to admit it, Eris could only imagine how much of a travesty losing one's hair could be. She had cut her own hair almost a year ago, but the girl still felt a certain attachment to the tangled mass of locks, one that she assumed most girls shared. Thus, the lose or burning of her hair would be a fitting punishment for Ami Poprocks. She would pay for the ghastly crime of hurting Dorian Gray, and her hair being burnt was a small price to pay for the pain that Dorian had been through.

The loyalty that coursed through Eris Fawley ran deep, something that lead her to attack those who dared to oppose her friends. The cause of her loyalty was simple, the drive to keep her friends, and to please them rooted deep down inside of her. Nobody had sat the girl down and told her that punching and kicking was not okay. Instead, the only way she had learned about the world was through the ranting and raving of her mother, the paranoid fears that Eris had pushed off as a child, just as she later tried to push away all memories of her mother after being kicked out onto the streets. The real lessons about the world had came through other children, younger children still learning about the world, children who fought dirty on the playground with fists and kicks, only to come home and learn how that wasn't okay from doting parents, grandparents, or any kind of family. Yet, Eris never learned otherwise, and now she sat, in a hospital wing, discussing ways to humiliate and punish another young girl. Her actions might of been strange, yet the boy that sat in front of her, with injuries, clearly had similar reactions to situations, the same violent tendencies that sometimes were more trouble than they were worth.

It was simple to talk about punishment, and violence, and pranking. These were subjects, activities that both children had picked up in order to protect themselves from the cruelties around them. Yet, the subject of parents was horrifying, a topic that made Eris's stomach twist in circles, butterflies darting around in wake of Dorian's answer.

Mothers were supposed to love their children, but here the two of them were. Unloved by their mothers, but yet, Dorian had a father that cared about him. But a mother that was unloving, horrible, and hated her son. There was clear grief written on the boy's face, as he spoke, trying to defuse his pain with humor, a technique Eris also knew all too well.

"Mothers are supposed to love their children. How stupid we both got stuck with mothers that don't love us. It's unfair, really." Eris voiced her thoughts outloud, a melancholy sigh slipping through her lips. It wasn't fair. But life wasn't fair, a fact that the little girl was learning more and more about, the longer she stayed at Hogwarts.

Dorian shrugged...

...nonchalantly at Eris' words, uncertain of whether he even wanted to remain on this topic. Whenever he thought about it he couldn't help how upset he felt that he didn't so much as know the reason why. All the most difficult questions in the world boiled down to that, regardless of where or how they originated. 'Why' would always be the question that stumped even the most learned of individuals. Dorian was no more fortunate, for he too was found wanting in that regard. His sigh and hers intermingled as one, and at that moment Dorian knew he needed to speak on the brighter side of his family.

Those aspects worth mentioning.

"My dad's pretty cool though. He's such a chill guy. He even let me have these." Dorian turned his head slightly to the side and pointed at his ear, bringing her attention the small hole in the lobe. It was noticeable, and he turned the other side as well so she could see that one too. Dorian felt like explaining how he had gotten it. "It was actually a little gift I got myself from dad on my eleventh birthday. I thought mom would burst into flames when she saw it. She was so mad! Dad managed to calm her down, but add one to the list of things she hates about me." He laughed really loudly, his voice echoing off the walls of the otherwise unoccupied infirmary.

It was joyful with a tinge of sorrow.

The laugh gradually died down, at which point Dorian stretched and lay himself down on the bed, looking up at the ceiling. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, refusing to think too much on the matter. He trusted Eris a great deal, and she was one of three persons at this school that he would trust with his life, secrets and all, but he would tell it all to her once he was out of this place. Not now. Not today. He knew it was time. It was at this point that he decided that he would also find Max and Aubren and reveal all to them, whether individually or as a group would be left to chance. Eris would understand. She was that kind of person.

"I'm feeling really tired right now. They probably have me on the good stuff."

He chuckled lightly. "I think I'm going to sleep for now. I promise to tell you everything later." He gave her a knowing glance before closing his eyes again, his hands folded behind his head and his mind already drifting. Almost in a whisper, he said "Operation Burn the Badger is officially a go...after I heal fully." And with that, he was out like a light, having been far more tired than he had thought. He was so happy he had found people he knew he could call friends for life.

Goodnight, Eris Fawley.

Exeunt/Sleep
After this thread I want us to assume Dorian found and told Eris, Max, and Aubren everything about his family history (what he knows of it anyway), and the three are in the know about his life. 8D

Families were often strange in their ways. Every child claimed theirs was the worst, claimed that they alone dealt with the horrid expectations of rueful parents, and that they were the only one that shared that familiar sentiment that echoed in the hearts of most preteens and teenagers. It was a blessing that the two Gryffindor students sitting in the hospital wing weren't yet teenagers and that the bonds of adolescent drama and bickering hadn't tightened around them yet. The two had both been dealt rather horrible cards in the family department, yet the ability to get over it and move on with their lives in a childlike manner seemed to be something most were capable of. Whether that ability was to be retained in later years would be found out later, but for the time being, there was a certain air of letting go that filled the stuffy air of the pristine room.

Eris listened to Dorian's talk of his father with wistful eyes, clouded over, considering her own past. At a normal time, the sight of his ear piercings would send her into near hysterics, jealousy and awe contrasting in her head. Yet, at the moment, her thoughts were elsewhere, and a laugh slipped easily from her lips, although her eyes were glassy, thoughts obviously turned inwards.

Her father had been 'pretty cool', as well. He had been loving and kind, racing around the tiny flat with crashing footsteps, pretending to be a monster, as he chased after his two giggling daughters. He had always loved anything magical, or superhero related, and every time a new comic book would come out, he would read it to his daughters as a bedtime story, acting out all the different voices. Sunday nights were for movies, and he would let the girls watch a movie of their choosing, before finally turning on one of his one. They would stay up all night, giggling at the screen like little children. But in the end, he had left, breath reeking and eyes wide with horror. It had been fast, his removal from Eris's life. One minute he was screaming at her mother, asking what she had done, and the next moment he had ran out into the cold.

Now that she knew who he was, and what her mother had done to him, it was easier to understand the story. Even so, Eris couldn't decide who her father was. Was he the kind man who had loved superhero movies, or was he the pureblood heir who had been missing for so many years, returned triumphantly to his home? There was no way to tell for sure, not until she saw him for sure, which was going to be a monumental, and terrifying event in it's own right.

How to express years of love compared months of confusion? How to describe her father, Luca Elcan-no, Luca Fawley? "My dad's pretty cool too, although he would never let me get a piercing." It was not the time to discuss more parenting problems, not when Dorian had shared so much, and looked so tired.

It was true though, her father was pretty cool. Or, at least, he had been when she knew him.

Eris was right about it not being the time to talk about her daddy issues. Within moments, Dorian was out like a light, the imprint of his last laugh still echoing through the air, along with the promise of mission 'Burn a Badger'.

Standing up in a fluid motion, Eris shook her head at the sleeping form of her friend. "Goodnight Dorian, see you tomorrow." was muttered with a pensive voice, before Eris walked out of the hospital wing.
