The grass is always greener on the other side. There’s always something that someone isn't satisfied about. It could be uncontrollable circumstances or missed opportunity. Whatever the case, Sara wasn’t an exception to this. It had been years since he allowed such a predicament to control most of him his whole life. While it wasn’t as prominent as it was before, there were still times where some of those doubts slip out

. Today was an unlikely day for him to be overthinking. His Quidditch team had just won in the summer games against an opponent. A tough one at that. Sara didn’t even have to move from the safety premises of his bench, and yet his hands were still slightly shaking. Strings of nervous β€˜what if’s’ strangled his thoughts, amplified by the chill from the rain they endured earlier. He attempted his best to hide it from his teammates, not wanting to worry them. Though his lack of enthusiasm for their win may have been noticeable by a few. By those who didn’t know him well probably expected that he was upset that he never got to play. When it fact it was the polar opposite.

He decided to take a well deserved walk around the campground area. His boots made contact with the slightly muddy grounds. Typical after rain effects. It did little to soothe his soul. β€œ aHHHHhhh grandma” he muttered under his breath. β€œ whyyyyy whyyyyy whyyyyyy did you wanted me to join a sport for your birthday out of all the things I couldve given youuu”. Regarding the things he wasn't satisfied with, he wished that he didn’t love his Grandmother so much. He messaged his face and groaned internally.

β€œA beaterrr… their main job to literally hurt people. Chikao got massively damaged in just one round. And their other players as well. I knew this sport would involve damage here and there. I thought I could handle that a bit. But gosh…” he was literally muttering to himself, clearly he was not okay. β€œ I never even ever threw a punch at someone, much less throwing some heavy object at them on purpose. Why did I think this was a good idea”

The answer was simple. He wanted to give her something to smile about. The prospects of having a close team in this sport was great opportunity for him to get to know others without getting shy as well. Hooray for teamwork! At first, he never thought bludgering opponents who were pretty much doing the same thing was that big of a deal, until he saw it himself. Now it was objective versus personality.

On one hand, he loved making his grandmother happy and being in a team. On another, everything he’s doing to achieve that went against his personal ethics. He hated hurting anyone. And as a player in a sport who will certainly made a name for themselves as a brutal sport, that was sending his nerves into overdrive.

β€œShould I maybe…quit?” he asked the silence around him, though there was no response. Not a response he expected as least. What did gave a retort to his question is the sweet lulls of a nearby tune. Curios, Sara decided to find its source.

Just somewhere outside an unknown tent, a familiar looking boy was discovered as the primary source of the earlier lovely music. Sara didn’t want to interrupt him and opted to stay a few feet away behind him, though he was solely focused on the song the boy played. He couldn’t see the boy’s face yet. The only thing he could notice was the gentle sway of his head rocking left to right, in sync with the music he was playing. Perhaps he took a shower earlier, in the bathrooms or in the rain. His hair was utterly wet but that didn’t seem to faze his vibe.

Sara watched closely with intrigue. It was only until the boy’s song ended that he realised his hands were no longer shaking. With newly found enthusiasm, Sara shyly clapped for the boy. His claps got faster and louder the more he went on. β€œ B-bravo! β€œ Sara needed to show how much he appreciated the boys song. Oh, right! He can smile!

The rain has stopped pouring but the cloud still looks a little sad. Maybe it reflected his current feeling because his school Quidditch team just lost against their opponent. It was a disappointing sight but his team was doing their best- which he really appreciates. Although their team does put up a good fight, the other team was too. He respected the sportsmanship and still smiled at some of the opponent's school students when he left the stadium.

El is walking back to his tent, brooms at hand, soaking wet from head to toe. His good ole fluffy hair now just turns into what looks like a slimy spaghetti. And he is also covered in dirt somehow, even though he stayed on warming the bench the whole time.

El showered immediately after arriving at his tent. Yes, his hair is still very wet, but he is finally free from dirt and rainwater. Feeling a little more refreshed, the wet-haired boy went to steps outside, as he notices that the weather is still pretty gloomy~

So what better way to cheer it up than by singing a song eh?

El grabs his tiny ukulele and went to one of the benches in front of their tent. It was a little quiet as probably people are hiding from the cold weather, but El, not minding the coldness, sat on one of the benches and started to strum his ukulele.

"Let's go in the garden
You'll find something waiting
Right there where you left it lying upside down~"

He is singing one of the songs from one of his favorite cartoons he watches at home. Sometimes at school, he wishes that they still have tv- but guess magic doesn't work well with electronics.

"Everything stays right where you left it
Everything stays
But it still changes
Ever so slightly, daily and nightly
In little ways, when everything stays~"

El is starting to get into his singing and swaying his head. His eyes are closed and his wet hair are sticking to his face. Sometimes when he is annoyed by strands of hair that cover his vision, he would shake his head hard like a wet dog and continue singing. But when he finishes the last note, a noise spooks him. was it a clap? by who?

β€œ B-bravo! β€œ someone cheered. El turns around and was greeted by a super duper tall senior. What shocked him most is not the sheer height of the person, but the smile he was projecting at him. El chuckles at that- reminding him of one of his friends who also has difficulty conjuring a smile.

"Ah thank you very much!! I saw you at the stadium before! congratulation~ your team did a wonderful job at the game!" El smiled back with the cutest smile he could muster. It is one of his winning smiles that made him very favorable back in his neighborhood, hopefully, this time it does its job too.

Once the boy had turned around, Sara’s eyes widened in recognition. Wasn’t he the same boy he bumped into when he first arrived in Hogwarts? He had seen that moppy wet hair before! He didn’t smile much back then, it was lovely to see him again. Even lovelier when Sara's on the receiving end of this boy’s charming grin.

In fact, it was too charming. If anyone were to see them right now, they would assume the kid’s team is the one that won, and Sara’s team lost. This was the 2nd thing that intrigued Sara to this boy. Other than his exquisite singing and playing, he has this sort of bubbly atmosphere the Japanese boy admired. Oh how much he wanted that same energy.

It seemed the boy recognised him as well. A fact that would have brought an even bigger smile on Sara’s face, but what the boy said next did the exact opposite. Like the spell was broken, Sara’s face turned back to a deep grimace. β€œ But so many people got hurt-” In contrary to El’s grin, Sara’s face would have reminded people what exactly made him intimidating. Uh oh. Remembering that, Sara instinctively lowered his gaze to his shoes as fear spiked him.

β€œS-sorry” he said immediately, his stuttering coming back. β€œ I- I must have look scary. I-I did not mean to d-do that. O-or say t-that”. Anxiousness creep into him like a parasite, slurring his words with ease. The massive insecurity he had kept at bay clawed him from the inside. Considering his state of mind just now, it was not surprising.

β€œI- I saw you too” he tried to say, though his eyes still kept glued on the grass between them. He didn’t want to ignore what the kid has said earlier. But Sara didn’t want to dump his frustration on a kind boy out of the blue. He could only hope the other would play along. β€œY-your team did a great job too” He rubbed his hands together, being comforted by the warmth the friction between them gave. It was the only thing that anchored his scrambled mind. β€œW-what is that song?” he attempted to change the subject. β€œYo-you sing very great. I wish I could d-do like that”.

It worried him that the kid would be offended Sara didn’t fully listen to what he said about Quidditch. It’s just that he was not certain he wouldn’t cry if the topic of Quidditch came up again.

El was so thrilled to see someone enjoying his singing. Especially by none other than the senior Mahoutokoro student who he met back then on the shore of the Great Lake. He almost says hello during the end of their Quidditch battle, also to the other Mahoutokoro student he saw at the same moment he meet this lovely senior. But he would feel a little awful to his teammate if he was congratulating their oponent's victory. So he was glad to meet this 'creepy smiley' senior here instead.

β€œ But so many people got hurt-” The Japanese boy then said, answering El's congratulation on their winnings. El looks at the boy with a slightly raised eyebrow, admiring his selflessness for caring about others instead of their win. El chuckles, "Aw don't worry about them~ It is part of the game after all. They know the risk. in my opinion, I actually admired them for being that brave and resilient." Says the guy who is gripping his broom so tight every time someone got hit by a bludger. He knows... What a hypocrite, but he doesn't want to see the boy worrying and completely forgetting about his own school victory. He knows how awful that must feel.

β€œ I- I must have look scary. I-I did not mean to d-do that. O-or say t-that”

El must say, at first, he thought he was about to get beaten up for something when he sees that smile. But after his first word, he knows that this person will not bring harm to him. There is a sort of.... feeling he gets for these things.

"Oh nooo- I was a little spooked because I thought I was alone, that's all." Another white-lie? It is something he often does to make the people around him happy. But it is not a complete lie, as he knows his intuition is right about him. El continues to explain to the Japanese senior, about the song he was singing and how it actually came from a cartoon he watched on the television. He actually didn't know if the Japanese understand what he was talking about, but he continue to chatter about his obsessions with cartoons growing up anyway.

β€œYo-you sing very great. I wish I could d-do like that”. Said the Japanese boy, which made El's face turn a slight tint of red. "Aw shucks- thank you- you flatter me too much~" El smiled charmingly again, really flattered by the senior compliments.

"Well- My name is Elowen Fernsby! but you can call me El. Finally, we could have a proper introduction~ hehe" El put up his right hand to shake the Japanese boy's hand, waiting for him to introduce himself too.

Oh wow. When the younger prettier boy mentioned about how people knew what they signed up for, the tense in between his eyebrows slightly loosened. β€œ R-really?” he frowned and pondered on his words for a few moments. Like it was playing on loop in his brain. β€œ That.. I’ve never thought of it that way”, he admitted. Brave? Resilient? He could have easily said those for everyone else on his team and their opponents. The absurdity that anyone would ever join this violent sport meant people did have the courage to join in the first place. A sense of glory that he could not feel, due to his lack of it. Why was he so readily eager to agree about it being a sport for the brave and resilient, but the same positive terms could not be the same for him. Like he was an exception. Perhaps… he had slipped too deep into his old way of thinking for a second there. β€œ Thank you.. For saying that. I think you are..right.” it was the first sentence that didn’t seem to tremble as it slipped out of his tongue. The slight japanese accent in his english obvious, and yet genuine.

The younger boy then mentioned how he was only spooked because he was alone. β€œ Ah.. sorry .. for assuming.” Of course! Not everything was about Sara. He was somewhat mildly embarrassed that he mentioned how scary he looked. It was a true fact, sadly. But he didn’t needed to make the other boy uncomfortable. Whether the young boy was telling the truth or not, it would not matter to Sara. He appreciated it anyway. β€œ I am uh.. A b-bit used to people like um.. How do you say it in english? Jude? Jegu? Oh oh- judge .. judging. Yes. Judging my .. β€œ he tensed his shoulders, his eyes naturally finding comfort on the ground as one of his free hand gently wavered over his face. He felt a tad bit guilty for bringing up layers of his insecurity. He figured it was the best to be..honest about it a tad bit. At least, for this young boy.

The taller boy whisked his head left and right for a while. β€œ Er… do you prefer big crowds?” he asked curiously. Perhaps it was..him that was scaring away his crowd? Oh god, that wasn’t a good thought. Bad thought bad thought.

"Aw shucks- thank you- you flatter me too much~"

He smiled. Which is.. The same smile he wore earlier. But it was easy to smile around this boy. Like.. Sara was sucked in a new breath of fresh air.

The boy then introduced himself as Elowen Fernsby. Sara gingerly shook his hand, giving it a firm shake. β€œ E- elowen ?” he started to say slowly. He was not the best with english pronouncisations. And Elowen just sounded like it was going to twist his tongue uncomfortably. Fernsby wasn’t easier either, but he gave up even trying. β€œ E- elo. Elowen?” no matter how many times he said it, it just didn’t sound right. He sighed but moved along anyway. β€œ Nice to meet you. My name is Sara Kohana. I understand your culture and mine are..different. So please, call me Sara β€œ.
