C’mon, c’mon!” Black thread, thin and lightly shiny in the dim lighting was tied in a mimic of a spider's web along the stone walls of the tiny stairway. Glued with a well-placed spell and tightly wound, one might have been able to tell it was thread upon getting close enough at a glance; or rather, that had been the case before. Now it was decidedly harder to say where the fake webs began, and the real ones ended.

Kitty, oh so helpful, had been happy to spin her webs to fill up the empty hole making up the exit through the strings, filling it with her own black webs and even going so far as to weave more of the thin webs across the strings.

It was honestly quite an eerie sight. If he hadn't been behind this…hell, if he had even the tiniest fear of spiders really, this whole thing would have painted a terrifying picture. Good thing he wasn’t!

He finished the last knot, grinning at their work. It was magnificent. “Ready?” He hummed, petting along Kitty's back. As if in answers she crawled onto his offered hand, happily skittering up the webs and disappearing into the darkened corners as he held up his hand to the higher webs and strings. She was smart, he had zero fear about her wellbeing, and he’d be just a light jog away if things went wrong.

Twisting on his heel he hurried back up the steps, pausing by the highly placed window to grab Herga from his bag. A monstrosity his friend Sage and he had created over summer. Said beast was a ghastly looking Kermit the frog puppet that had gone through a…traumatic makeover to say the least. Once upon a time she’d been meant to be a mermaid like in Sage’s fairy tales, but the slip-on tail they'd created looked more like a long, slithery serpent's tail, dark green and oily looking in the dim light. Yarn hair, once a fine brown had accidentally been dyed black in a horrible dye job gone wrong, matted and long like strands of oily seaweed. Like the grudge Sage had said. Whoever that was… Fake eyes lashes and lips had been attempted to. The eyelashes…had stayed. But the lips…that’d been a disaster. Neither kid had known how to use the heat gun and muggle supplies Sage had and had burnt a hole straight through the mouth and left the fabric burnt and ugly.

Herga had begun.

The 2 teens embraced the horror.

Fake rows of sharp clay teeth were lovingly glued into the mouth. Rope like mesh fabric added to the torso and tail for a watery banshee look straight out of a muggle's horror movie. And black hot glue made for a nice permanent fake ooze-like look dripping from the corners of her mouth and between rows of teeth.

Herga was horrifying.

He fondly brushed her long yarn hair into place and tucked her into a corner of the high window, leaning on the tips of his toes to shove her against the glass pane where it would be hard to see her unless one was truly searching.

Perfect.

He walked up the last of the stairs, just a handful really. Fingers curled into a heavy banner, and he pulled it back, disappearing behind it, suddenly gone to the outside world and safely tucked away in the tiny hidden gap of space behind the heavy fabric. Slumping against the stone wall he hugged his backpack to his chest, sliding down the wall to rest against the cold stone ground with a sigh and pushed his bag into a corner as he fished out his wand and camera. The camera hung heavily around his neck where he slipped the straps over. Near his feet, pressed in an opposite corner, sat a large jar, lightly moving. Spiders. Conjured ones. It was a large jar, not nearly enough of the creatures to fill it or pose a problem for the gathered creatures but it would be enough to cause a fright. He went to pick it up-

Elsian paused. There were footsteps.

A straggler had finally shown up. Likely on their way to dinner…

With a sharp grin Elsian fiddled with his wand, waiting quiet, painfully quiet as the steps got closer until finally, they passed right by him and footsteps echoing against the stone steps began to grow distant. Then and only then did he peek from behind the banner, carefully stepping out into the open wand and jar of spiders in hand as he propped the jar against the stone wall and pointed his wand at Herga. A levitation spell on the tip of his tongue as he quietly waited for familiar steps to begin running back up, or perhaps even a scream.

Carefully he began to loosen the lid.

It was show time.

Unsurprisingly, the second year had spent longer than intended in the library and she was now running late to dinner. After spending some time with a newly acquired friend, Esme, in the grounds, she had decided to head up to the library to do some studying and had since lost track of time. She only took notice of the time when her stomach had grumbled in protest, and she had checked her wristwatch to realize that she was running late to dinner, making her further realize that she hadn't actually ate anything since breakfast and she should probably get some food in her stomach.

Her satchel slung over her shoulders; she hurried through the deserted corridors. Honestly, the castle was always creepy at times like these, when it was just you walking through the corridors. With no one else around, her footsteps reverberating off the stone walls, creating an eerie atmosphere, she half expected a monster of some sort to jump out of the shadows and snatch her. But she knew that was stupid, and it was merely her imagination trying to scare her, which for some reason it always tends to do when you're already feeling uncomfortable.

Even so, as she turned to head down one of the stairways, she couldn't help the unsettling feeling that settled in her stomach. Something felt wrong, but she tried her hardest to play it off as just her overactive imagination. She'd been down this exact stairway multiple times before, and nothing bad had ever happened. She'd never actually encountered anything dangerous in Hogwarts, period. Still, she couldn't help but reach into her satchel and pull out her wand, gripping it tightly in her hand. Just in case. It was better to be safe than sorry, right? Even though the castle was generally safe, you could never be too careful, and it eased the unsettling feeling just slightly to know that she had her wand in her hand. She sped up her pace, the quicker she could hear the chatter coming from the Great Hall, the better.

Then she reached the bottom of the stairwell. And stopped in her tracks. She squinted in the dim light, trying to figure out if she was seeing this correctly. Maybe she was actually going insane, because those definitely couldn't be spiderwebs covering the bottom of the stairs. But that was certainly what they looked like. She rubbed her eyes with her free hand and blinked, her vision refocusing on the same exact thing she had seen previously. So, she wasn't hallucinating. Adelaide wasn't entirely sure whether she should be happy about that or not.

It wasn't long after that she heard the skittering. She looked down, and then she screamed bloody murder. Merlin. It was a goddamn spider. One of the things she hated with a passion. The eight legged freaks were terrifying. They were so creepy, and they crawled so fast, and they just made her cringe in general. Did she mention she hated them? And this one was horrifying. It was also crawling right in front of her feet. The sight of the horrifying creature shocked her body right back into moving, and she turned on her heel and sprinted up the stairs faster than she had ever sprinted in her entire life.

Whether it was someone's lost pet, or just a random spider you'd find in the castle, she was not dealing with that. She'd take the longest way to the Great Hall if she had to.

The sound of footsteps echoed closer, rushing up the stairs. Running.

Show time.

Sublevo Brevis.” He whispered; wand pointed at the puppet. A few seconds of finessing and she was ready. Hovering in the air menacing. Step 2.

The lid of the jar was twisted free, gently clattering to the ground near his knee as he knelt. He tilted it towards the stairs, shoving it into a corner to keep the jar still as he tapped at it. Tiny, little black figures darted out, scaling out across the floor in uneven waves, most flowing down the stairs like a wave of black ooze. Dozens upon dozens of long, spindly little legs crawling down as fast as their tiny legs could carry them.

A spider, small, and brownish in color crawled up his hand.

Cute.

A small shake and nudge got the creature wandering away. It crawled up the wall. A look to Herga would reveal some of the more bold, nimble of the bunch having been able to somehow crawl or jump onto the disturbing puppet. Spiders, crawling between yarn hair and hanging from the long oily looking tail and mangled fabric strips wrapped in an abysmal imitation of clothing. It was a horrifying sight.

Oh, he felt so proud of his evil puppet daughter. They grew up so fast. Maybe he could snap a quick picture of her majesty-

The footsteps were dangerously close now.

Ok. Nope. No, not happening. He stepped away, backtracking a few steps away towards the banner. Close enough to duck behind without being seen if the person just bolted right past without so much as a scream or pause in the face of Herga and her legion of spider babies.

Gosh he hoped they did though. It’d be such a funny picture.

Sprinting up the stairs, she really thought it couldn't get any worse. Just a random, lone spider that she had unfortunately encountered on her trip to the Great Hall. That was until she saw something hovering in the air. It looked hideous. Adelaide had managed to stifle a scream this time, but a yelp had still left her mouth. Adrenaline was pumping in her veins as her heart beat so fast it could surely be heard right now. What on Earth was going on? This had to be some sort of sick prank, but they had picked the wrong person to mess with. Even if she was terrified right now.

If the terrifying thing, which she was fairly certain had to be some sort of hideously deformed puppet, floating in the air right now wasn't enough, she could also hear the sound of skittering. Again. But this time it sounded as if it was multiple things skittering. Oh Merlin. Please no more spiders. Out of everything they could terrorize her with, it had to be the one thing she hated most. Despite her entire body refusing to look down, she knew she had to, if only to see if there were actually more spiders or if she was just imagining the skittering noise. She prayed it was the latter option, prayed it was just her ears playing tricks on her. Slowly, very slowly, she moved her gaze downwards, and she damn near screamed again. Indeed, there was not one, not two, but what seemed to be dozens upon dozens of spiders. The tiny, little creatures were crawling down the stairs so fast they were almost a blur in Adelaide's eyes.

She screamed again. Her eyes moved up to the puppet again, only to see spiders crawling up it. How they managed to get up there was beyond Adelaide. This was a sick, sick prank, and unfortunately Adelaide was the victim of it. She ran faster up the stairs, trying her hardest to avoid the spiders even though that was next to impossible as they practically covered all of the stairs. When she had finally gotten away from the horrid sight and up to the safety of the top of the stairs, she had half a mind to just continue running far away from here, but the other part of her rebelled against that idea. She shouldn't let whoever this person was get away with this. She wasn't that type of person, and she still had her wand clutched in her hand. She spun back around but made no move to walk back down the staircase. The only thing was that she couldn't actually see anyone, so unless they had run after they had set the prank up, they were extremely good at hiding.

"Right," she shouted down the stairs, feeling slightly stupid that she could be talking to no one right now. Hopefully everyone else was busy eating their dinner in the Great Hall right now, so no one would see her, "whoever you are, come out right now. I will literally throw you down this staircase because you think it's funny to play a sick prank on an unsuspecting victim. So, I'd suggest you come out now, because I will find you either way, and it won't be fun for you when I do." Her tone was demanding, and she hoped it was threatening enough to get whoever was the perpetrator of this prank to reveal themselves. That's if they are actually here. Even though she had screamed twice, and the prank had clearly terrified her, she was putting up a brave front right now, and she wasn't above getting revenge. Either way, she'd find out who did this, and they would pay.

Oh crap. She sounded pissed.

Which, yeah ok. But somehow he hadn’t expected her to be that quick to anger! Like, run off screaming or get terrified enough the person scrambled away for a bit and THEN got angry after a few minutes upon realizing it was a prank!

Ew, just his luck Adelaides instinct was fight, not flight.

Well…there was no way he could just run off down the halls, he was taking his stuff, pissed little 2nd year or not, thank you very much. He would take any hex they threw. Take any bruises, because he probably deserved at least a punch to the arm, he could admit that, but what was a little adventure and pranking without a tiny bit of fear? Where was the thrill?

So running away was off of the table. For now. After he got to the stairs and got some of his stuff? Well, running away was free game then. If he got there. He knew full well how feral the kids from Ravenclaw could be, especially this one.

Feral, violent, harpies the lot of them.

He pulled back the banner when her back was turned, pointing his wand towards Adelaide as he shouldered his bag. “Obscuro!” He laughed as the blindfold took hold, blinding her and aimed the camera, snapping a photo of the hilarious sight knowing full well this might just be his end if he wasn't fast enough. “Here I am~” He goaded smugly, aiming one more shot, “say cheese!

Another snap. He grinned, letting the camera smack heavily against his chest in his rush for the stairs, snagging the evidence that was his spider jar and tossing it into the bag as well. He went to rush the stairs, but not before aiming one more spell behind him as the other likely just about got the blindfold off, “Fumos.” Smoke spouted from the wand, a screen of smoke soon making a wall between the 2 and quickly fanning outwards around them like ink spilled onto paper.

Let her try to aim through that mess.

With a quiet laugh he ran. Pausing briefly to get the cursed muppet down and stuff haphazardly into the bag as he continued to rush. Over his muffled laughter, and his focus on not tripping up as the bag refused to close due to one evil muppets horrible yarn hair, ducking under a few webs as Kitty began to rush ahead, Elsian would end up not paying quite as much attention as he probably should’ve been. He wouldn’t quite realize the footsteps he heard echoing might’ve been following after him rather than coming from further away due to the way it bounced against the stone walls, mixing with the distant chatter and footsteps from further along.
