Efelion found himself by the lake in the afternoon, he had taken a step away from the castle as he was interested in seeing what was outside the walls of it. The curfew was still far away and dinner time was still some way off so he thought he would become more acquainted with the surrounding nature. His parents had told him many things about the school he would be attending, they would regale the stories of their time spent here as well and the idea of a large lake intrigued him.

Efelion looked into it while he sat up against a tree near its shoreline, was it filled with magical creatures? Was it holding secrets of its own? It was so dark to look into that he didn’t think he could tell from above it, maybe one day he could brace the cold and go for a swim, see if he could find anything interesting. He could never guess what secrets the school around him would hold, and that was exciting to him.

Efelion decided to look away from the lake once more and down to the book that was in his hands. He was still reading Hogwarts a History, a book that was crucial to his studies at school but also fascinated him. Learned about the place he was staying so that he would have points of reference to the occurrences around the place. It was just a bummer to him that they in fact did not explain why the place was so confusing to navigate in the book. Winding corridors and moving staircases made it almost impossible for his brain to understand.

“I hope I make you both proud” Efelion muttered to himself thinking of his parents, “gods know I’ve never been so confused in my life,”

It was true that even though he had grown up in the wizarding world, nothing could have prepared him for this. No one would have been able to see this castle and not bask in its glory. He just wanted to make his parents proud, show them that he was going to be as good as them and that their efforts to teach him would not have been in vain.

The boy stood up for a second and walked to the water, picking up a rock from its edge, enough weight behind it as he felt the smoothness of the rock, clearly eroded over time in his hand. He pulled it back and let loose, the stone skipping across the still lake, and the glass-like top started to ripple from each bounce. He chuckled a little bit, the disturbance of the ripples was like when his mind overthought things, removing the calmness from the surrounding parts.

Miciela spent the whole day lost in the stairwells. She was frustrated beyond words. Miciela was trying to find the owlery to see if they had an owl there for her to borrow. She wanted to send a letter to her father to let him know that she was okay or else she would be expected a howler during breakfast sooner or later. She loved her father, but being the only girl out of a group of five boys meant that her father was more overprotective than most. If she doesn't send that letter out in the next day or two, he would have a cow. Not to mention, she wanted to see the owlery. Aside from sending the letter, her goal was to pet an owl. She just hopes it doesn't attack her. Last thing she needs is an exploding owl. Miciela already experienced an exploding rooster, and doesn't want to relive that.

Stepping out of the castle into the main yard. Miciela breaths in a breath of fresh air and runs her fingers through her unruly curls. Even though it wasn't the destination she had in mind, she felt relieved that she was able to escape from the stairwells. They change too often for her taste. No one warned her of the changing staircases before she came here. It was not a great surprise.

Overall, the castle was magnificent, but it was a drastic change for Miciela. She could honestly say she was no longer at the farm. Don't get her wrong, she loved the castle, but Miciela felt a bit of relief when she saw a familiar site in the distance-- a lake. There was a small lake at her farm that was full of small critters like frogs and fishes. This one, however, was much bigger.

Approaching the lake, she sees a young kid throwing rocks at the lake and was reminded of how she use to skip rocks all the time when she was younger. It was one of her favorite pastimes. Miciela approaches the guy and speaks out, "You know, if you flick your wrist out with a little more force, the pebble would bounce faster and go further."

Miciela squats downs and looks through a pile of rocks nearby. She picks out a smooth, grey rock that is the size of her hand and stands next to the guy. She demonstrates the motion to him and flicks the rock out into the water. The rock skips across the water disturbing the clamness and lands far.

She picks up a second rock and precedes to throw it across the lake again. This time however, it bounced across the water four times before it hit some critter that was emerging from the water. She gasp and quickly covers her mouth almost yelling, "I didn't do that!"

Efelion wasn’t expecting the sudden appearance and turned around to words being spoken behind him. Efelion took through his brown messy hair at the new appearance of a young girl, unable to tell whether she was a first year or a second year. Though in saying that he was still getting to know everyone in his year it could be very possible that he just hadn’t seen her around yet. Efelion’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment realizing there had been someone watching him.

“I uh…” Efelion didn’t really know what to say as he watched the girl with curled locks pick up her own rock in her hand, he didn’t really have time to speak before the girl demonstrated to him how to skip better. He hadn’t really thought about it that way.

Efelion watched as she picked up another and threw it, Efelion watch it skip across the water until it smacked into something that had been trying to surface. Efelion looked from the landing back over to the girl who looked to almost be in shock “Is hitting a creature a part of the technique?” He asked her in jest with a smirk trying to break the awkwardness of her just hitting the animal “It’s fine, you couldn’t have expected that to happen.” Efelion offered her a bit more comfort.

“Accidents happen,” The boy said as he picked up another rock and threw it the way she had suggested, this time it goes far further than he had ever gotten one to go across the glass-like surface of the lake “I’m Efelion by the way, First year Ravenclaw” he awkwardly introduced himself to her “I don’t think I’ve seen you around before, are you a first year?”

Efelion had never considered that it could have just been because he had always kept his hazel eyes on books and not on those around him. It was uncommon for him to really make friends or know others outside of the very few he had already met, to him his studies were normally more important than meeting others. But he knew that he should at least try to get to know others else he would struggle to survive in the school. Especially with the upcoming ball, he didn’t want to not know anyone there or it would be awkward, even more, awkward than he already was.

Miciela smiles sheepishly, blushing bright red, "Maybe it could count for extra points. It takes special skills to do that. Not everyone can do it."

Miciela watches his next throw and smiles, reaching out to give him a high five, "Just like that! Good job!" She picks up another rock and introduces herself, "And nice to meet you, Efelion, I'm Miciela. I'm a first-year as well, but I'm a Gryffindor. "

She throws another rock, this time not hitting anything, and continues, "I am not surprised, this school is huge! I got lost for the last few hours trying to find my way up to the Owlery. I completely failed that task and gave up. I just settled on finding a way out of the castle. I swear it is so easy to get lost here." Miciela scrunches her nose and picks up another rock, "Probably would've helped if I had been listening to my prefect on how to get around, but in my defense, I was more fascinated by the portrait of the fat lady. I absolutely loved her! However, I may need to ask another Gryffindor for the password. I kinda forgot it..."

Miciela shakes her head and throws the rock in her hand, "Sorry, I'm babbling. I like to talk a lot." Miciela shrugs unapologetically and says, "However, I did see you when you got sorted. I must say that I got a little jealous when I saw you were one of the first to go up. There were quite a few people ahead of me and I was so excited! However, I'm not known for having a lot of patience, and there are a lot of students whose last names come before mine." She laughs softly, remembering her frustration of having to wait that day.

“You don’t have to apologize for speaking your mind,” Efelion said comfortingly “I prefer you speak your mind rather than hold back your thoughts,” He said with a smile, he agreed with her on that part, the school was confusing for anyone, he wasn’t sure how the people in other years were able to cope with it all. It was something that he was still at a loss on.

He felt bad that he had seen him at the sorting ceremony and that he hadn’t noticed her all week. He had just been too oblivious it seemed to have taken notice of her in his classes or maybe distracted by others he already knew. It was hard to keep track, everything around him had been moving at such a quick pace. It was like a whirlwind and he was hoping things would soon settle down once the routine became more natural to him.

“You are the opposite of me then,” Efelion said softly “I was terrified, I was worried I was going to end up in a house that wasn’t Ravenclaw and let my parents down” , His parents had never said he had to be in Ravenclaw but he thought they would be let down if he hadn’t been in the same house as they had been and the anxiety was something he bore up until he was sorted, the downside being Alora, his friend from his train ride in had been sorted into Slytherin which meant he hadn’t really known anyone in his own house yet.

“I am glad you were excited though, I know a lot of others were anxious of it, some I could see it on their faces when we entered the hall” He spoke with a cheerful tone “So it’s nice to hear that not all of us were scared of the sorting.”

Efelion bent down and picked up another rock with a smile, this time giving it as much force as possible with the technique that Miciela had taught him. He hadn’t expected a Gryffindor to have approached him. He had never really spent time with people from that house, it was mostly Slytherin that he had gotten to know.

“If you think the hallways are confusing now, just wait till the school is even more filled,” Efelion said looking back at the girl with a smile “The tournament happens this year, which means that there will be other schools here as well.”

He looked back at his books and back at the girl who was standing by him “Do you have hobbies, outside of skipping rocks along the water?” the boy asked with a smirk on his face “and besides attacking creatures that arise from the lake?”

Miciela looks at him confused and asks, "Why would that be a bad thing? My father is a Hufflepuff, but I got Gryffindor." Miciela couldn't fathom the idea of her dad being angry at her for being in a different house than her, and her mother still doesn't understand the concept of the different houses. As much as they tried to explain it to her, her mom struggled to catch on. In her defense, she didn't even know wizards were a thing until the whole chicken fiasco occurred.

"I will say that I also noticed how anxious some people were about being sorted. I tried to make one of the girls on the train feel better about it, but I don't think I helped her very well." She frowns thoughtfully and adds on, "I think I may have made it worse with my whole 'This could determine our whole life' talk. I didn't mean it as a bad thing, I just thought it was an exciting thought." Miciela gets ahead of herself sometimes and forgets that not everyone thinks like that. It's a bit of a struggle to remind herself of this.

Miciela smiles seeing his rock go further once more, and teases, "Be careful, or else you may skip the rock out of the lake or hit a critter as well. I may have stunned one, but with that force, you may just knock it out." Looking back at the castle, she adds on, "I agree, it is going to be packed this year. However, it may make the year more fun and interesting. Who knows?"
“Do you have hobbies, outside of skipping rocks along the water?” the boy asked with a smirk on his face “and besides attacking creatures that arise from the lake?”
She laughs at his comment and sticks her tongue out at him. Miciela then playfully scowls at him, "I would have you know that I love animals! That was just wrong place, wrong time. That accident was totally not my fault."

Miciela picks up another rock and throws it, this time without bouncing it to see how far she could throw it. Seeing it almost hit the lake's center, she felt satisfied and answered his question, "I like swimming. If the water wasn't so cold, I would definitely take a dive, but unfortunately, I hate the cold. Hate, hate, hate it!"

"I also like spending time with animals. I can't wait for our Care of Magical Creatures class! Can you imagine it?! We could learn about hippogriffs or unicorns. Maybe we could even see a dragon one day!" Miciela smiles and bounces in place out of excitement, "It's going to be so much fun! I know it's a third-year class, but either way, I want to make a trip down to see the animals eventually."

Settling down, Miciela asks Efelion, "How about you? What do you like to do with your spare time?"

Efelion smiled at her answer, at least there was one of the first years that hadn’t seen the sorting hat as a judgment. He knew that it was silly but for a lot of them it was a big deal. It wasn’t uncommon for wizards to wish for the same house as their parents.

“It’s not a bad thing” Efelion explained trying to justify his thoughts at the time “It just feels as if I should live up to what the family was, they never said they wanted me in any house but… sometimes you feel obligated you know” The boy tried to explain to her his reasoning “I am glad at least one of us wasn’t worried thought.”

Efelion turned as she spoke of his throw and sneered “If stunning one is only some extra points then stunning one should be even more” he spoke in jest laughing a little “maybe i might win the house cup with that shot.”

Efelion was amused by Miciela, he wasn’t used to someone so energetic, most of his friends were rather calm and her energy was something that he was enjoying. Meeting people who were unlike him made him happy as he got to experience different aspects of being social. He watched her skip a rock as she answered his question. Swimming, something Efelion had not had much time in though he always wanted to get better at.

When she brought up magical creatures Efelion watched her excitement grow as she bounced around and laughed a little. It was nice to have someone around that wasn’t as cold and reasoning as someone in Ravenclaw or quiet as the people he had met from Slytherin. If it had been too many like her he may have been overwhelmed but by herself, the energy just filled Efelion with excitement as well.

“What do I like to do with my spare time?” Efelion pondered to himself as the girl settled down “Reading, Skateboard… exploring” he answered simply as he kept his eyes on his new friend. He realized shortly after that he needed to explain the answer better and sighed, the words were not enough, an explanation was in order.

“I like reading because it gives me knowledge of things I cannot explore, I love exploring because it’s learning by doing and Skateboarding well…” He spoke softly “I love muggle things and I think it’s like a puzzle, you have to find the right way to do the tricks to be able to do them.”

The boy walked a little over to his books and sighed “Sometimes, books can only teach you so much but… it’s a good start” He said with a smile as he held them up “I try to get ahead over everyone else.”

The boy looked through his books before he found a muggle one his parents had bought him in their rare excursions into muggle London “Like this, a book on sleight of hand.”

I should live up to what the family was, they never said they wanted me in any house but… sometimes you feel obligated you know”
Miciela frowns thoughtfully, "That seems like a lot of pressure and high expectations." She pauses for a moment reflecting on her own parents, "I think... I think my parents are really more worried about me getting into trouble than actually passing my classes. They don't expect a whole lot from me. Compared to my siblings, I've always been the one to cause trouble. At least with me, they have the mentality of 'C's get degrees.'"

She then jokes and teases him, "This doesn't mean I'm dumb. Don't count me out yet; I bet I could get a higher grade than you in some of our classes."

Miciela smiles at his comment and nods, "I guess that is a good thing. I try not to be nervous." She scrunches her nose and continues, "You think I talk fast now? You have seen nothing yet. When I get nervous, I get word vomit and begin to talk very fast. It's just endless sentences, or the opposite happens when I freeze and begin to stutter and turn beet red. It is always one way or the other."

"I'll give you an example: my talent show."

Miciela stands next to him and takes on a tone of impending doom, "One time I decided to join a talent show." She then makes wide gestures with her hands, dramatizing the scene, "Imagine this! Big stage, bright lights, and an audience of many, many parents. So many parents!"

"I, myself, decided at the time that I am hilarious and that I should be a comedian. I thought I was great at cracking jokes. So, I got onto the stage. I hold the mike in my hands and I..." She pauses for dramatic effect and says, "And I accidentally called my teacher hairy as an attempt to make a 'Yo mama' joke."

"I forgot to say the 'yo mama' part and went straight to saying Miss Harriet was hairy. Then I made it worse by doing word vomit and trying to complement how non-hairy her chin is. It was just a hot mess. Didn't work out."

Miciela sighs dramatically and adds, "In hindsight, I was only seven years old, and I thought 'Yo mama' jokes were the epiphany of funniness." She laughs and says, "I'm pretty sure mom has that on video somewhere."

Going back to his hobbies, Miciela smiles about how passionate he is about reading, "That's good! One could never learn too much, and I like reading too! One of the first things I did when I got here was going to the library. I figured it would be a good idea to get aquatinted with it. However, I must say; that skateboarding is not my greatest skill. That one you can keep. Personally, I don't like falling on my butt."

She then looks over his shoulder at the books and raises her eyebrow at him, "Hm, so you're competitive then? Good to know." She gives him a mischievous smile and acts as if she is deep in thought by crossing her arm across her torso and stroking her chin, "I'm competitive too, so good luck beating me. I am a brilliant mastermind!"

Miciela giggles and looks at his muggle book, "I've only ever been exposed to muggle books until recently when dad finally let me read one of his potion books after seeing my acceptance letter. I must say, Muggle books and wizard books are so different."

Efelion couldn’t help but chuckle at her story of what had happened when she was only seven years old. Efelion had never thought of something to say to someone like that in fear that his parents would be disappointed in his actions but he liked that she was able to do what she wanted without the same worry. The carefree nature of Miciela was refreshing for Efelion, although he tried to be the same he often found himself overthinking things that never needed the overthinking.

“I don’t think I’d have the same guts to go up on stage to perform for others” Efelion admitted “But I admire your ability to put yourself out there, too scared for crowds, I’d probably make a terrible quidditch team player.” It was true that although he liked the idea of performance and other types of arts like public speaking he was far too shy to put himself in that position.

“Competitive only when it comes to being the best wizard there can be” the boy retorted in jest sticking his tongue out “I bet you I’ll get better marks than you all year.” Efelion was only joking, in truth, the boy was not sure what he would be able to get away with marks wise but he planned on doing his best. His end goal was to become an Auror and that required a good grade.

“Muggle books and those of the wizarding world but just like anything both to me are interesting” Efelion said with a grin “Besides, I think it’s important to know about both is it not?” As he asked he walked over towards the water and took up a pebble and moved his hand back practicing a throw once again the way she had taught him to.

“So, you know how to skip rocks and are a performer, what else is there to you?” Efelion asked curious about the girl that stood by him “Any dark secrets?” He stuck his tongue out at her again with the intent of being a smart ass “Secretly a dangerous witch that’s hiding from the ministry?”
