Questions and getting out of the rain with @Haley Rose

He didn't like being vulnerable and often didn't really talk small-talk. Maybe that's why he had friends on the quidditch team and whatnot but when it came down to close friendships, those just weren't there. Not really with anyone. Maybe it was easier with Haley Rose since she lived so far off and she went to another school, therefore held less ability to use anything he said against him - not that he thought she would.

"No, same question. I think it's a good question to get to know someone. If you could change one thing about your life, what would you change?" and he looked up as he felt some raindrops begin to fall and he brought out his hand for her to take so they could go into the little enclosure that he had made. If made right, and he was pretty certain it had been, it would keep the two of them dry from the rainstorm.

Miles hoped there wasn't anything too big in Haley Rose's life that she would change because she was a girl that deserved happiness. "And hey, that's my normal. Don't you be worrying about me. I've made it this long and look how good I turned out?" he smiled to her, only joking about being conceited in that moment. Miles Thatcher didn't want anyone to ever feel sorry for him.

Of course Haley Rose, what did you expect? What goes around comes around, and her question came back to her like a boomerang. For a brief moment she froze and her gaze darkened. If you could change one thing, Haley, what would it be? She asked herself the question honestly. She could think of anything trivial, but she felt Miles was being honest with her and so she owed it to him to be. But could she be honest with herself?

The redhead started chewing on the inside of her cheek and thought, what would she honestly change? The more she thought about it, the harder the question seemed. As if she had checkmated herself. After a moment's thought, she looked at Miles, her gaze had relaxed again and somewhat quietly she said "My family's past." Of course, there was much more to it. Much more she knew nothing about, but she knew it was a lot of darkness. Darkness that was connected to her grandfather. While at first she thought about changing the meeting with her grandfather, she had decided against it. She wouldn't change it because even though it was bad, it had good points. She had met Aiden - There was a painful tug in her stomach at the thought of him, she missed him. And she had learned more about her family than she had her entire life before.

To her relief, it started to rain, drawing attention away from her answer. Even if she hadn't said it, she was sure it was clear she wasn't going to say more about it. She secretly hoped Miles wouldn't ask further, because she wasn't going to talk about it - not today.

Haley grasped Miles' hand gratefully and climbed into his homemade shelter. "It's cozy." She giggled as she carefully sat down next to him, perhaps a little too close, but with so little room, she had no choice. "You really turned out good!" she laughed at his response and was glad at how quickly levity had crept back into their conversation. "Okay, I'd take a dare now." She challenged him with a wink, eager to see what he would come up with while they both sought shelter from the rain, which seemed to be getting stronger by the minute.

A dare for @Haley Rose

Miles knew enough to know that he wasn't the only person in the world to have big issues, but he was saddened to hear that someone like Haley Rose had them. Her family's past. He could deduct a few things from that. Perhaps they were bad wizards, the kind that went the dark route. Perhaps they had been thieves and tricked others. Perhaps their status wasn't high enough. There were a lot of different ways it could go, but what mattered most was that Haley felt pain from it and he hated that for her.

When she came and sat down next to him, he smiled because it was awfully close. I mean, she was practically sitting on his lap at this point. "You turned out good yourself," he said to her. Miles then drew in a deep breath and let it out slowly as he listened to the scattered rain from above.

A dare next. A dare was requested and he wanted one that would liven up the moment from all the weight that was placed upon them just moments before. When an idea popped into his head, he looked out into the opening of the leaf hut and upward toward the sky. It was raining. A lot.

Rain was nice. It meant that now flowers could grow and bloom, trees could bud, and leaves could turn to green. Rain meant growth.

Growth happened whether you planned for it or not. Time rolled on and the days became months and months became years. Still, proper growth is where character development came from - what showed you what you truly were and had the potential to be. Maybe he needed better parents, maybe she needed a better past for her family - but they didn't need to worry about that: not here, not now. Right now it was just him, her, and the nature that surrounded them.

And this certainly meant they didn't need to cancel all the fun. It meant they needed to embrace the moment, to overcome their annoyances, to trust in one another and to perhaps grow stronger in their bond and friendship. Miles turned his hand over out toward her. "I dare you to dance with me in the rain."

Haley giggled softly and was inwardly very relieved that Miles did not broach the subject any further and kept all his questions, if he had any, to himself. Haley didn't want a bad mood and she especially didn't want to identify with past events, so it helped her if no one wanted to know more about it.

The rain was getting heavier and while Miles thought about a Dare, Haley sat next to him with a contented smile, listening to the many drops falling on the ground, on all the leaves and their shelter. It was a feeling of peace and serenity. She enjoyed the moment and lost herself in the ever increasing sound of the rain.

It seemed Miles and Haley had a similar thought. They didn't want to let anything get them down. They didn't want something to have that much power over them and they both wanted to hold on to a good mood. It was nice to see that Miles felt the same way and Haley couldn't hide her excitement. "Dancing in the rain?" she repeated, beaming at him. "Nothing better than that!" she laughed, taking his hand and following him out into the rain.

It only took a few seconds for the first strands of her red hair to stick to her face, but Haley didn't mind. She liked the feel of the warm rain on her skin and a little water wouldn't kill her. "I hope you're a good dancer!" she challenged Miles and took a few quick step jumps past him, his hand still holding her and against all stereotypes she took the momentum and pulled Miles by the arm into a spin. "That looks great." She laughed , before letting him turn the other way again.

She thought back to their first meeting for a moment and she realised how easy it was with Miles. She could just be her and they could have a lot of fun together and laugh a lot. She really hoped that this friendship would not be short-lived.

Dancing and nonsense with @Haley Rose

"I don't know if I would go so far as claiming to be a good dancer, Miss Rose, but I wouldn't classify myself as a bad one. My mother wouldn't have such a thing!" he smiled to her, mocking his mother and her stuffiness. It was true though, he had to conform to all things that were considered pureblood and high society and therefore dance lessons from an early age were a must. The boy was well rounded, even if he didn't wish to be so. Maybe that's why being out there in nature just appealed to him so much more - it was liberating.

When Haley finished her leading him on a turn, he did the same, bringing her in close to him when she spun back in and then spun her out again. It was trickier to do in the rain because their clothing was wet and instead of flowing freely, it just made their fabrics want to stick together.

"Will you still be my friend when I'm the biggest disappointment in the biggest tournament that has ever been for wizarding schools?" It was said lightheartedly. Honestly, it was something that he thought about often, but somehow when he was with Haley she had a way of taking away his frustrations and right now he could say it in all good fun.

"I mean, it might bring about bragging rights, you know? Oh, you remember that American wizard who got mutilated in the Hexwizard? Yea, I knew him. He kicked my ass in a snowball fight and then showed me up with his shelter building and dance skills, but he was a pretty cool guy. Wish I got to know him a little better." - He said, as if quoting Haley to friends in the future after his untimely death. "I could eventually become a handy conversation topic."

Miles was a good dancer, no question. It was a rarity at her young age to meet like-minded people who really knew how to dance, but Haley seemed to have a knack for meeting just those like-minded people. As they danced in the rain, Miles pulling her close only to spun her back out, she laughed heartily. "Well you're really not a bad dancer." She complimented him as he held her again after spinning. "Maybe I can have a dance with you at the next ball?" she suggested to him with a wink.

"Miles, you won't be the biggest disappointment." She spoke calmly but firmly. It broke her heart that this was a worry of his. A concern he truly believed. But she had already had a glimpse of his relationship with his parents and she was not surprised that he had this pressure. "I will always be your friend, whether you win some stupid tournament or not." She looked into his eyes and saw the sincerity behind his words.

But he also still made her laugh again in the next sentence. "Woah, woah hold up. I think you've got something mixed up. It will look more like this: You remeber that American wizard who got mutilated in the Hexwizard? Yea, that one. I knew him and I feared it from the start because I already kicked his ass in a snowball fight once. But he was good at shelter building and dancing. At least he won the night at the balls with his date." Haley playfully poked him in the side with her hip, "Still, he was one hell of a cool guy and I'm glad he's my friend." She hoped she could cheer him up a little with that and pulled him to her by the hand. "You won't be a disappointment." She now said seriously once more and took him into a tight hug.

"And you have to think of it this way, whether you win or not you could eventually become a handy conversation topic." After the redhead released the hug, her wet clothes stuck uncomfortably to them both. Her hair dripped water on her nose, which she blew away and wiped once across her face. "But there is one good thing about all this, all the girls will adore you and run after you." She laughed now and the image of Miles running away from a group of girls was really amusing.

One can dance in the rain but not the lightning with @Haley Rose

Miles was grateful of Haley's words of encouragement. They made him feel nice and they weren't just empty promises either - they were a promise that a friend would be there for him when he needed someone and he was grateful to her for that. Still, they unfortunately didn't fully silence his doubt. Maybe only time could do that.

The rain, that had already soaked everything there was to soak, began to fall even heavier than before and now some lighting began to flicker from the distance, and a low rumble could be heard. "Come on," he said as he reached out to take a gentle hold on her wrist so he could guide her back to the little shelter that he had made. They could stay there until the storm passed.

Once inside, he drew his wand from his pocket. "Aer Calidus," he said, performing the Hot-Air Charm to dry off their clothing. He then led her to sit by him as he casted Incendio on some of the kindling before him to give them some heat. The flames would be protected from the shelter and not extinguished due to the rain or the wind, and they were low enough that it wasn't going to be a safety risk for the two.

He knew some weather mending charms and could probably make the storm go away, but he knew that it was needed. The plants that grew in the areas surrounding them needed this nourishment that the sky provided and eh wouldn't deny them of the opportunity. Sometimes, strange things could happen when one tampered with magic. Using magic was a wonderful thing but needed to be used correctly.

Besides, it didn't need to be used on rain. Miles watched it fall for a few moments before smiling over to her. "I've always loved the rain."

While the two of them danced and talked, exchanging words of comfort, it suddenly started to rumble and Haley got goose bumps inside. She always loved thunderstorms. She was never like the other kids who hid, no Haley sat in front of the window pane, looking out eagerly, counting the seconds between thunder and lightning and loving the feeling when the thunder was felt throughout her body. For her, it had always been a natural phenomenon that she could watch for hours.

Haley followed Miles back to the shelter and it really felt good when Miles dried them both. Haley hadn't noticed how cold she had been before but the dry clothes and the fire Miles started quickly warmed the Gryffindor girl up again. Haley drew her knees up and hugged them with her arms, resting her chin on them. She just looked out into the rain, the flames of the fire framing the picture and it was just cozy. She waited almost impatiently for the next thunder and lightning and couldn't wait for the storm to really hit.

At Miles' words, she turned her head so that she was now on her knees with one half of her face looking at him. "Mhm." She replied with a soft smile before lifting her head again. "I have always been a summer child, but I have always loved the rain and especially the thunderstorms." After that sentence, the next thunder swept across the landscape and Haley could feel it in the ground beneath her. "Gosh, I love that feeling." With sparking eyes she looked back out of the shelter and waited for the next flash. "No rain, no flowers." She said quietly to herself before dropping slightly to the side and letting her head fall onto Miles' shoulder. She didn't really think about it, her attention was still on the storm and in any other situation she would probably be racking her brain to see if she had just crossed a line.

But at that moment, the red-haired girl was just sitting in front of the same-coloured fire, the rain whipping harder and harder through the forest and the next thunder was not far away.
