Dave and AngelFyre's first duels against Gryffindor here and here, respectively.

Everything was so incredibly quiet. Too quiet. She knew she was struggling to try and say something, but the connection from brain to mouth was not working. AngelFyre always dreamed in color and her dream world was one of her great pleasures, when she actually slept, but what was going on inside her head at the moment was the very opposite of pleasant. Her mind's voice kept trying to tell her to wake up but she could not. When she tried to do as she was telling herself to do, the mind-voice would be silenced. Colors were now exploding in rapid, non-stop barrages on the movie screens that her closed eyelids had become. It was too much. Too fluorescent. Why could she not wake up? She needed to run. She needed to find Simon, but her legs were not moving either.

Vaguely aware that the back of her head was throbbing very painfully, AngelFyre got some brief respite from the colored light show when she felt cool fingertips on her eyelid, spreading it open and then the eye was assaulted with another, strong but steady beam of whitish-yellowish light. Too tired and now too nauseated to care any longer, all she wanted to do was sleep, and hopefully without the psychedelic light show.

Feeling like even her thoughts were too heavy to carry now, she dropped them unceremoniously as the last thing she thought she heard was the word "concussion".

*******
Some time later she began to hum very softly. Her family had told her that it was something she always did about 5 minutes or so before waking up without the aid of an alarm clock. The humming had no rhyme or reason to it and it almost never resembled a recognizable song. Her head was still throbbing, and when she tried to move her hand to her head, she still could not, but she knew this time it was because there was a familiar hand holding hers.

Still struggling a bit to open her eyes, blinking them open and closed a few times, she smiled a little smile as they slowly came into focus on Simon. Her mouth was dry, but she nonetheless managed to croak out, "That was awesome! Did I win?" and she would have winked at him, but that just felt like the equivalent of climbing Mt. Everest in the moment.

Permission to Godmod as done so given by Simon Kincaid and Kelsey Brumby.
I woke up in the Hospital Wing and looked around, immediately noticing that I wasn’t the only duelist in here. I waited until Nurse Brumby was finished tending to one of the patients before I called him over to ask how long it would take me to recover to which he said that because I didn't sustain any major injuries, I could leave right now if I wished to. Knowing that I could go out now, I started walking out of the Hospital Wing but no sooner had I taken eight steps out of the room, not that I was counting, I saw two people carrying my friend and fellow duelist AngelFyre in on some stretchers. Well if she was being carried in then either something very bad happened to her before her duel or my duel already ended and it was now the third duel of the day. Well If I was completely honest, I wasn’t really surprised to see her being carried into the Hospital Wing since it was expected for us youngsters to get out fast and when we first met, AngelFyre even said that she anticipated to be nothing but live bait on the piste but based on my duel alone, I had reasons to say that that wasn’t the case.

But that’s beside the point, the point being that my friend Simon had rushed in about a minute later and I really wasn’t surprised to see his face in here. “Hey Simon!” I exclaimed as he came closer. “Glad to see me? Oh, right, that’s not why you’re here, are you? Nope, not at all, I’m just not that special, unlike her who’s managed to win your heart over in less than a year. I still remember that one time you looked like you wanted to kill me because I suggested I wanted to kiss her.” I was referring to the tea party that happened earlier this year, and I just hoped that Simon didn’t get too mad at it. Thankfully, he didn’t and he just said “Yup, not one of my proudest moments.” Simon then sat down on the bed AngelFyre was at and I sat right beside him. “Don’t worry too much about her mate, she’ll turn out all right.” I said in my best attempt at my usual cheerful voice and in response, Simon quickly said “I hope so.” We then sat in silence for a few minutes until we heard AngelFyre start humming and soon enough, she woke up whilst trying her best to say “That was awesome! Did I win?” I couldn’t see her so I moved my head a bit so that I could see her and as soon as that was done, I immediately replied with “I dunno, I just been in here for the past, I dunno, hour? I mean, I hope you won but only Simon can help you there.”

Visiting @AngelFyre McCubbin and @David Howard in the Hospital Wing

While he had all the faith in the Hogwarts staff and knew that AngelFyre was in good hands within the magical medical community and also the school nurse and his elvish assistants, he couldn't help but worry. Worrying is something that people did for others when they went through hard times and you cared for that person. Simon tried to focus on small talk with David as he sat there waiting for his girlfriend to wake up.

Still, he tried to let her know that he was there, especially as she began to stir a bit. A light touch of her hand or a tassle through her hair. He hoped that she knew he was there and she needn't be afraid. She was safe and she was being well looked after.

"You were amazing, but no, love, you didn't win," he said as he brushed some hair to make sure it wasn't falling in front of her blue eyes so that she could see clearly even though she couldn't move the best right now. He remembered what it felt like when he woke up from being pelted with all those objects after the first broom race. It was something awful.

But it gave one experience, did it not? And if AngelFyre wanted to be a duellist than Simon was going to do what he could to support his girl in being a duellist. Maybe sometimes that looked like allowing her to practice her spells, allowing her to ramble on incessantly about practice (although he loved even just hearing the sound of her voice so this would never bother him), or be there to hold her hand after a downfall. Simon slipped his hand back over hers and gave it a gentle squeeze.

"How are you feeling?"

Smiling, relieved now that she was opening her eyes and even giving him a playful wink, Simon leaned down and gently rested a kiss on her forehead. "You were incredible though, got in some really good rounds but honestly, that game was so unevenly stacked in the Gryffindor's favor." So much it was rather ridiculous, some might say.

Waking Up To Find @Simon Kincaid And @David Howard Sitting At Her Bedside
AngelFyre was at first not certain that she was really awake. She thought she was definitely looking at the most handsome face in the world, but she also thought she heard Dave's voice responding to her question as to whether she had won or not. Without turning her head, because that was still barking at her rather loudly when she tried to move, she glanced with her still unfocused peripheral vision to find Dave, but did not see him. That would be a freaky little trick of her mind; Dave's voice coming out of Simon's likeness. Perhaps she was still in the Twilight Zone, she thought.

She was just about to give back into her body's call for sleep and close her eyes once again when her gaze, coming ever more into focus, landed on a figure behind Simon. Oh! Thank goodness! It really was Dave and she really was awake. She had to chuckle a little because she knew if Dave was sitting there, too, he surely must have won his match. He had said something about not knowing the outcome of hers, however, which made her question her first assumption about his win. Had he won, he likely would have hung around with Simon and watched her match. Hmmmmm.

Able to really dial her focus in now, she caught the fleeting remnants of Simon's worry leaving his face; his furrowed brow smoothing as his relieved smile took up residence. Catching a clear look at Dave as he peeked around Simon, she croaked again,"An hour? Are you okay, Dave? Did you get knocked out, too?" And then, not wanting to but she could not help it because she was just inexplicably happy, she started to laugh just a little. "I am so sorry, Dave. I just knew we would likely find ourselves in here, especially after our first duel, but was it not spectacular? And the best part of it is that we can only get better, right?"

Then directing her attention back to Simon who confirmed the not surprising news of her blackout on the piste, she reveled more than a bit at his tender ministrations as he moved her hair out of her face and placed a kiss on her forehead. "I admit, I was more nervous about you being in the audience at first than I ever was about the duel itself. Was not so keen on having you see me fail..." she admitted truthfully, but a building excitement was lighting a fire back in her eyes and strengthening her voice "... but you are right, love, I really did get some good licks in and it felt amazing. And when it looked like I was going to go out earlier than I did, I closed my eyes and I could hear you, and it all just fell into place." She smiled widely at him and and squeezed his hand, mouthing a silent 'Thank you'.

Trying to sit up a little, she looked around some more and reached for some water. "Two questions. I do not see her here, so is it safe to assume Autumn was still on the piste when I was carried off? And also, has anyone said when I am cleared to get out of here?"

In response to my answer to her question, AngelFyre looked at me before asking me some more questions: "An hour? Are you okay, Dave? Did you get knocked out, too?". And in responses to her questions, I gave her some more answers: "Look, I'm just estimating here, maybe it was less than an hour. And yes, I too have been knocked out but I'm alright.". She just chuckled a bit before saying "I am so sorry, Dave. I just knew we would likely find ourselves in here, especially after our first duel, but was it not spectacular? And the best part of it is that we can only get better, right?". I was confused about what she was apologizing for but that aside, she was correct about the fact that we could only get better from here, if we didn't stop practicing magic that is in which case, we'd only get worse. But that's besides the point, the point being that now I had two more questions to answer and I didn't take long in doing so.

"Wait, what is there to be sorry about? I mean, it's not like you did anything to be sorry about and if you did, do enlighten me. And you're absolutely right, we can only get better at dueling and if we don't quit the team, eventually we'll be able to win duels and manage to not be knocked out in the process. Oh, and before I forget, I'm afraid my duel wasn't very spectacular, especially because my Flipendo didn't work. I mean, thankfully I somehow managed to suppress the spell before it backfired on me but if you don't include that part and the fact that I managed to dodged a wind jinx twice, then it wasn't a very spectacular duel at all. I mean it was, but not because of me."

Once I had finished speaking, Simon chimed in himself, saying "You were amazing, but no, love, you didn't win. How are you feeling?". He then brushed some of her hair away from her face and leaned down to kiss her before continuing: "You were incredible though, got in some really good rounds but honestly, that game was so unevenly stacked in the Gryffindor's favor." I completely agreed with what Simon said because it was true for both myself and AngelFyre. Both of us were first years paired up with a third year dueling a second year and a fifth year in my case and two fourth years in AngelFyre's case. And yes, that had a bit to do with the fact that Hufflepuff had little to none duelists that were in fourth year or above but that didn't change the fact that duels were unevenly stacked in Gryffindor's favor. Anyways, on with the story.

"I admit, I was more nervous about you being in the audience at first than I ever was about the duel itself." AngelFyre said in response to what Simon had told her. "Was not so keen on having you see me fail, but you are right, love, I really did get some good licks in and it felt amazing. And when it looked like I was going to go out earlier than I did, I closed my eyes and I could hear you, and it all just fell into place."

She then looked around a bit before saying "Two questions, I do not see her here so is it safe to assume Autumn was still on the piste when I was carried off? And also, has anyone said when I am cleared to get out of here?" Well sadly, I didn't know the answer to either of her questions. So naturally, I quickly answered both of them, because why not? "No I didn't hear anyone saying how long you'd have to stay here before being able to leave and I haven't seen Autumn here either so perhaps she wasn't knocked out. I mean, there are only twelve rounds in one match so she doesn't have to be knocked out so that the Gryffindor's could win."

Well wishes and letting @David Howard and @AngelFyre McCubbin get some rest

"I don't think I'm ever going to understand dueling," Simon said as he looked from AngelFyre and then over to Dave and just shook his head. Granted, broom racing could be just as tragic and he himself had ended up in the Hospital Wing due to it but somehow dueling just seemed more aggressive and violent.

Simon sat on the edge of AngelFyre's bed and opened up his enchanted satchel and began riffling through it, looking for something or somethings in particular. "At least, with magic, you'll both be out of here in no time." Magic had a way of healing so many different illnesses, ailments, and injuries so quickly and he knew the medical staff at Hogwarts was beyond amazing.

He found what he was looking for. Simon pulled out from his bag a vase with some flowers in it, looking - eh, the slightest bit wilted but honestly they fared pretty well in that ever expanding bag of his. He placed his bag down beside him and then got up to place that vase next to AngelFyre's bedstand. "You can take that with you when you make it back to your dormitory. Maybe I can figure out a spell to revive them a little," he smiled.

He then went back to the center of the bed where his bag was and began to go through it again. What he pulled out next would be some chocolate frogs in which he came and placed on the bedside stand of his friend Dave. "Honestly, mate, not sure if you're into chocolate but the cards are cool."

They were in good hands there with the school nurse and so Simon felt he should probably leave to let them rest. He had come to show his support and they'd still have it and his well wishes and prayers. "I'm going to let you both get some rest." He patted Dave's bedside as he walked by and then retrieved his satchel, bringing it over his shoulder before leaning down and gently kissing the top of AngelFyre's forehead before heading out.

Simon has left the thread.
