----The thorns scarred into Vale's skin, a feeling she took great joy in and found as a way to remind her as to where she is. She had to hold in her crackles, a difficult thing for poor Vale to do. She barely even noticed that she was alone, with most racers ahead of her after casting a spell to prevent herself from being ensnared by vines. She swears she saw something falling down to the ground ahead of her, but she couldn't tell who. Hopefully it wasn't one of her teammates. She knows that unlike her, most people just don't take well to falling to their possible deaths. Slytherin, or not.

Wyatt saw Percival go down and winced. Things weren't looking great for Slytherin, but Wyatt wasn't going to admit that to anyone. Not even himself, possibly. It didn't look like any of his teammates were willing to just lie down and play dead either. Well, besides Percival, but that wasn't dead... was it?

The ever terrifying Scarlet Salvatore seemed to want to spread her intimidating aura forward, and thus she flew onward. Unfortunately, the thorns that had torn up so many others seemed to have just as much of an effect on her, terrifying presence or no.

Just ahead of her, the dual diffindos seemed to finally free those racers who had been trapped in the vines since time immemorial. The crowd would cheer with great jubilation as Harper, Wyatt and Colin broke free from the vines that had ensnared them. Soon after their own escape, Vale and then Scarlet, too, would become trapped by the death trap, only for their impressive gains to allow them to rip free of the greenery that had tangled their fellow racers for so long.

Another set of thorns would follow soon thereafter, and as the pack of racers cast through, a few would find themselves bleeding once more from nature's barbs. Scarlet's presence would emanate forward, and the ever unlucky Ari Gwild would find himself the victim of nerves, his skin rendered gashed and bloody.

Yet, where the thorns may have been a challenge, the wood that followed would prove to be a greater one. As racer after racer sped through its midst, they would find themselves hit by branch after branch, the thuds emanating around the arena, the resounding noise of thunks reaching the crowd who abounded the stadium. Ari alone managed to avoid hitting every tree that lay before him, but even he did not manage to escape unscathed.

Unlike the earlier vines, those that would come later in the race were far more forgiving, with only the wolf-child Colin becoming ensnared. Fortunately, he was able to break out soon thereafter, and rejoined the remainder of the pack. The racers would press forward, with Wyatt Starkey taking a small lead from the remainder of the group, finding himself in a distant second.

For well out in front, Bloom Silverton rode alone. The soon-to-be sixth year had the entire race course ahead of her, and excepting a few patches of wind, it would prove to be smooth flying. She held tight to her broom through those areas of turbulence, and soon found herself but mere metres away from the finish line, without another racer in sight.

Behind the rest of the racers, Hunter Argentum was stranded on the ground, having knocked himself from his broom. But an inability to fly did not render him unable to act, and soon an improvised projectile was thrust forward from his hand. Colin tried to avoid, and came very close, but alas, his speed would prove his undoing, and the weapon would make its mark.

There was always a moment when you know. And this time, Bloom knew. She was ahead of everyone and could sense the finish line. She quickly looked behind her to see that everyone was stuck past her a bit too far. She was riding alone and quite frankly, although she was unsure of what to expect ahead of her, she was quite content and felt relaxed. Bloom held onto the handle of the broom, moved her body forward and kept going.

twack! twack! twack! As the branches hit Clair she held onto her broom tightly not wanting to fall off no matter how hard the branches hit her. Bloom had to be close to the finish line, they just had to be in the lead! Clair gritted her teeth, ready to do whatever it took to win.

"AAAARRRAGH!!" Colin roared as he broke free from the vines at last! He charged forward with all speed --- straight into the thorniest, sharpest, and densest thicket of horrific thorns he could imagine!

"Yoww! Oof!" The sharp spikes tore into his flesh and slashed open his shirt! They got tangled in his hair and robes! "AAAACK!" He ducked his head to try and protect his face, but they still managed to scratch and scrape everything they touched!

Blasting free at last from the thorns, Colin got a good look at Percival as he overtook the poor lad! "Perce? Are you dead?" He didn't look quite dead, though he did seem pretty battered. "Oh crap!" Colin yanked his broom to starboard just in time to miss impaling himself on a tree branch, but by no means missed the branch entirely!

In fact, Colin found himself buffeted and bonked, thunked and thumped by branch after branch as he zoomed into the Forest of Death! "Oof! Oww!" Branches whacked his shoulders and his knees, thumped his body and bonked his head! Ducking his head to try and protect his wits --- not to mention avoid Percival's fate --- Colin dove past the last branch!

And got himself entangled in yet more vines! "Aw, cruddy cruds! Not more vines!?" Vale and Clair and the other Ravenclaw boy managed to avoid them! But, bleeding and weakened as he was, Colin smashed right into them! He wiggled himself around and soon broke free! "Yes! Take that vines! --- Oh WHOA!"

That's when Colin saw them! Someone was throwing things at them! Or rather --- at Colin specifically! "Fake Hunter!" Colin groaned as time seemed to stand still. The boy had guessed that Colin would dive to the right --- and his aim was spot on!

THWACK!! SMACK!! --- One big rock smacked him right in the chest and the other thwacked his right temple! "Unnngggh!" Colin saw not only stars but wee ravens as his head cushioned the poor stone's blow! He shook himself like a dog to try and clear his head, but that was a losing battle.

He'd passed both Scarlet and Percival and found himself in a tight pack with his mate Vale, the cute Ravenclaw girl and the Ravenclaw boy. He watched as Wyatt pulled ahead; but the older Ravenclaw girl was so far ahead, only a miracle could knock her out of the race! He stole a glance over towards Clair. She had a look of determination in her eyes. Colin smiled.

Action: Bonked and thumped but otherwise still in the race to win!

Ari gripped his broom tight and weaved through the trees. He was the only person who managed to not be brutally annihilated, and he prided himself on that as he took a brief moment to think back on his terrible history with trees and broom racing courses.

But even then, he still obtained a few bumps and bruises. The race was finally coming to an end, and he was proud of himself and his team. But whoever made this course was going to be receiving some glares for all parties after this was over, that's for sure.

‘Yes!!’ Scarlet thought to herself as she swiftly passed by two Ravenclaw racers, granted one of them wasn’t even on their broom anymore, but she was finally making some progress. She caught a glimpse of her teammate, Percival, he didn’t look in the best shape, she hoped whatever the damage, it would be a quick trip to the hospital wing. She gave herself a quick check over, her arms and legs were tingling with pain, the thorns she had passed and made quite a mess of her uniform, revealing streaks of blood from the scratches underneath. She didn’t even mind that much and easily thought past the pain, she felt like she was actually starting to make some progress now.
