Wow, That's a Lot of Overdue Books
The Library.
Were there any other words needed for such a wonder-filled place? Enormous shelves reaching from floor to arcing ceiling, mysterious back corners where one could study uninterrupted, rows upon rows of desks... and it was all complete with the stereotypical mean-ass librarian.
To Ami's amusement, a Gyriffindor boy seemed to be getting chewed out by Librarian Wheeler at his abundance of overdue literature. While the chewing-out itself was held in whispered tones, the monstrous stack of books seemed to speak of itself. Counting silently, Ami was impressed to see not five, not six, but seven overdue books sitting on the librarian's desk. And, judging by the boy's pleading protests, they weren't all that overdue.
And honestly, Ami felt bad for the kid. She'd gotten one or two overdue books that year, and was 100% terrified, her bones shaking in her socks, as the librarian lectured her about the importance of taking care of books. However, things began escalating as the whispers slowly turned louder and louder, until Librarian Wheeler proclaimed, "If I see one more overdue book from you, Mr. Watson, you will no longer be allowed in this library!"
Taking a deep breath and quelling the normal voices in her head (thankfully, today was a good day), the Hufflepuff marched over to the Gryffindor boy, and put on her best cheery voice. "There you are!" she said with a wide smile, linking her arm through his. "Golly, you've been gone awhile. Have you sorted out your book problem yet?"
Flashing her biggest, best smile at the librarian, she began Act Two of her village-idiot act. "Sorry, my friend here... he's really bad at keeping track of things. I keep telling him, Watson, you'd better return your books on time, or Wheeler's gonna have your hide, but does he listen? Never." Taking an exaggerated sigh, Ami finished off her performance with, "I'm so sorry to bother you, then. I guess we'll be off! I promise, I'll make sure it never happens again." Sweeping all seven books of the desk, much to the librarian's chagrin, Ami hefted them into her arms and took off to one of the desks, the Watson boy in tow.
"What the hell was that?" she hissed at the Gryffindor, slamming the seven books down on the table. "Honestly? Don't piss her off. Return your books, dude."

Wow, That's a Lot of Overdue Books
It was not a good day.
Let's start with the fact that herbology lessons are not as easy as it seemed. When, after an hour of struggling with the mandrakes, Angus left the greenhouse he was sure - these lessons are not easy at all. After finishing his classes, he went to the library, as he used to. He entered The Gryffindor tower by the way, he just wanted to put down the textbooks. He was about to leave, but he noticed something that he could no longer ignore - a stack of thick books he had borrowed a long time ago and he was about to return a long time ago, but there was two obstacles on his way to returning them: his aversion for returning the most interesting books he had ever read and the most frightening librarian in his entire life who did not tolerate being late with overdue books.
He made a quick calculation in his head. Does he still need these books? Yes. Will the librarian be angry? Sure. Could he still hide from this woman? Doubtful.
Yeah, he thought. He had to return them eventually. He took a deep breath and frightened went to the library. He made excuses in his head, but he knew that they would not impress the librarian. Especially since he knew about one more thing that made this conversation even more difficult.
When he finally came at the place, he immediately headed with his stack to the desk of a monster bothering poor students who just wanted knowledge. The woman looked through the books in silence, from time to time eyed at him with the most terrifying look in the world, checking if they were not destroyed. He did not have to worry about that, he considered the book as the highest sanctity and, after all, he respected it. Of course, without a proper reprimand it would not go away. The librarian has probably warned him that he will no longer be allowed in this library if he will do that again five times, but it was not that bad.
He was about to leave after the lecture, but at that moment she counted them.
"Seven" she said.
Of course she counted them, how could she not count them? "Excuse me?" Angus asked in his nicest voice. "There are only seven books" she repeated in a frightening voice. "Yes?" he answered, in the same tone, but in the soul praying to all willing gods for mercy. "Mr Watson, you have eight overdue books, today you have only brought me seven, where are the "The Tales of Beedle the Bard "?" at that moment her voice could freeze blood in veins. "Ah, this book, you know, it's a very interesting story ..." she did not let him finish, because she already started her tirade. Gryffindor thought it was impossible to shout in a whisper, but apparently he did not know Mrs. Wheeler.
At that moment, someone grabbed his hand, "There you are!" smiling, said Hufflepuff that he had never seen in his life. "Golly, you've been gone awhile. Have you sorted out your book problem yet?" he already wanted to deny that he is not Golly and that she must have mistaken him for somebody, but then he understood - she was saving his life. He shut up.
The girl quickly dealt with the librarian. She took his books from Mrs. Wheeler's desk and dragged him to one of the free desks.
"What the hell was that?". He stood there speechless by this whole situation. "Honestly? Don't piss her off. Return your books, dude." He regained his speech - "Yeah, nice to meet you too, the name is Angus, not Golly or whatever you called me" He put his hand in her and shook it "And about returning overdue books, I would like to, but the problem is that I lost one of them and now even if I know where it is, it will not be so easy to get it back, so if you let me go away to borrow more books, this time with strong willingness to return them. " He left, but after a few steps he turned around and pointed to the book she was holding all the time "" Flavia de Luce "? Good book," he smiled.

"Angus, a pleasure to meet ya, bud, and golly's an expression. From America. I'm from there," Ami explained quickly, tucking her hair behind her ears. Sitting down so it looked like they were actually doing something, she continued on, her voice low and hushed. "I'm Ami, and you're welcome for that whole... catastrophe back there."
She couldn't hold back the eye-roll that followed Angus's statement about going to check out more books."Are you insane?" Ami asked as Angus turned to walk towards the shelves. "No. We're going to find whatever book it is that you lost." From personal experience, she knew that if Wheeler was mad at one student, Wheeler would be mad at every student- and that wasn't exactly the best thing to have when you were trying to find a specific textbook. No, she definitely had to help this poor boy- and, not only for personal gain; no, it was also the right thing to do, the kind thing to do.
Her tone of voice and hard expression softened, however, as Angus pointed out the book she'd been carrying. "Good book?" she snorted sarcastically. "I should say so. Best damn series in the entire world- no one else seems to think so, though, so I guess I'm all alone." Angus had unwittingly stumbled upon one of Ami's few soft spots- Flavia Sabina (Dolores) de Luce, her favorite person on earth.

"Golly. I have to remember it. And about your - from what I see favorite book, I've read better ones, but since you saved my life, I would just politely agree." Gryffindor admitted, as he certainly didn't want to argue with someone who saved him from a lost battle with the library monster.
Something came to his mind. "You are half-blood or born in a Muggle-born, right? Nobody here knows even Snow White, not to mention anything more specific, like Flavia." the boy knew he was probably right. Although it did not mean much, seeing someone who knew a book from a muggle world made Angus feel a bit more like home.
Angus went to search for more books he could hold for too long. Looking through thick volumes with spells, of which he could only dream for the moment, he could not concentrate. In his head all the time he could hear the previous words of this Hufflepuff, Ami - "No. We're going to find whatever book it is that you lost." He thought about where at the moment are "The Tales of Beedle the Bard". He knew that finding it would be much harder than losing it. The probability of getting the book back was small, and with someone not really larger. Was it worth it? Almost certainly not. Almost
He had to find this girl. Luckily, he caught her quickly
"Hey you, remember me?" He said."Regarding my lost book... Have you ever heard of the Shrieking Shack?"

Ami sighed in defeat as Angus stubbornly decided to continue on searching for books, without giving much regard to the missing one. Shaking her head, half in pity and half in annoyance, she turned reluctantly to her own schoolwork, which she certainly needed to complete at some point in the near future. Failing grades... yes, failing grades weren't going to be a part of her near future. Hopefully.
Lost in her work, the red-headed Hufflepuff almost didn't even realize that Angus had come back to the table. Looking up, she reconnected with reality soon enough to hear him say, "Regarding my book... have you ever heard of the Shrieking Shack?" Regarding his what? Oh, book, right. The missing one. Shrieking Shack... it rung a bell, had her mom mentioned it before? Probably, she just hadn't paid any attention.
No, wait! She did remember it! Wasn't it that room beneath the willow tree, on the Grounds? Yes, her mom had mentioned it- even explicitly said, "Avoid it if you can." That certainly didn't bode well. "Yes, I've heard of it," she said slowly, eyeing Angus with a newfound interest. What could he possibly be up to? "Why? Don't tell me you left it in there... did you?"

Once again, he doubted whether to tell her.
"You see this is a quite interesting story ..." he began but gave up quickly. "Yes, I have left it there" he sighed. "Do you know how to enter The Shrieking Shack? Everyone says the entrance is under Whomping Willow, but nobody knows where exactly. And I accidentally found it."
He took a deep breath and continued in whisper "The problem is that I found this transition accidentally, having no idea how to do it and I can not repeat it. I once bet with one Gryffindor idiot for a box of chocolate frogs that I will get there, so I stood there and cast in it all possible spells, but as you might expect from my ability to cast spells, or rather inability, nothing happened. In the moment of frustration, because I really didn't want to buy this box of chocolate frogs, I threw my wand into this stupid tree and then Willow, instead of trying to kill me or something, suddenly froze and revealed the entrance. " He paused to look at Ami's face. She did not seem too convinced.
"I took a step to make sure it wasn't just temporary, I quickly grabbed my wand and got in there, but immediately after that, the willow began to return to its normal state. I, of course, panicked because of that I would not know how to get back, so I escaped from there as fast as I could and didn't even take a picture to prove this idiot that I was there. The book probably fell out of my bag while running, which means it is now lying politely in the corridor leading to the Shrieking Shack "he made a dramatic pause.
"Speaking forward your questions - Yes, I've tried to throw a wand into this tree again to retrieve the book. Nothing happened, but a branch hit me" he finished and took a deep breath. "You believe me, right?"

Wow, That's a Lot of Overdue Books
Ami simply stared at the boy in front of her, partly in disbelief, and partly in complete and utter shock as he told his tale of how he discovered the willow. Bloody Mary... so he found it by accident, she thought to herself, honest-to-God impressed. And certainly, the boy seemed to be telling the truth- the effects he'd described seemed accurate enough, her mom had told her nearly the same thing. "Yes, I believe you," she said quickly, but not without a heavy sigh. "Boy, that's certainly quite the place to lose a book."
Standing up and moving her arm in one, swift sweeping motion, her schoolbooks were suddenly no longer on the table and instead, in her bag. "Come on, let's go. No excuses, we'll go and get the book now, before anyone notices we're gone." Glancing at her watch, she added, "We need to be back in time for dinner- unless you don't mind skipping it? Honestly, we could just grab a bit of food and go. Yeah, let's do that."
Checking her bag, she pulled out a sad, lonely ham-and-cheese sandwich. "Some poor schmuck gave me this at lunch, I didn't have the heart to throw it away. I hope your okay with this, because it's your dinner." Tucking it back into her bag, she held up a finger- wait a minute. Dashing off into the shelves of the library, she pulled a book off the shelf, and dashed back to Angus.
"Hogwarts, A History," she explained, grabbing him by the wrist and dragging him out of the library. "It'll probably be useful, right?" Completely ignoring whatever protests he might have, she pulled him along with her as the pair marched outside into the grounds.

Wow, That's a Lot of Overdue Books
Gryffindor was sure that the girl will give up after his declaration. She will not believe him and run away because who wants to deal with such a freak like him, or worse, she will believe and run away, because it is Shrieking Shack after all. Surprising him, Hufflepuff did nothing but ponder for a moment.
Angus stared at the tips of his shoes. He wondered whether he should escape. He could just leave the library. Without a word. Ami probably would have considered him as a freak and started to avoid him on the school corridors. They would both pretend that his confession, about the book left under the Whomping Willow, which is the most dangerous place on the school grounds, never took place. Just like that. That's how most of the relationships of the boy in this school ended. He was always sure that it was mainly his fault.
"... I believe you," her words awoke him from rumination. Ami believed him. He was not sure what to say, how to express his gratitude. He knew that trip to Shrieking Shack was not the best way to say thank you, but what could he do? After all, the girl volunteer, he had no choice. Or rather - he did not want to have a choice. The idea of a lonely return to that place did not really please him.
Hufflepuff definitely did not delay. She quickly gathered her books and began planning how to reclaim the book. He wanted to protest when she deleted the dinner from their schedule, but he gave up quickly. He did not know too many people who would help him retrieve his book, exposing himself to such a great danger as taking part in the confrontation with the Whomping Willow and entering the Shrieking Shack, for the price of just dinner.
Ami dragged him to the exit. Not that he would protest. Well, maybe he protested a little, he was not prepared for another trip to this scary tree. Along the way, she pulled a thick volume - "Hogwarts, A History". He hoped she will borrow it because Angus definitely did not want to have another chat with Mrs Wheeler. "It'll probably be useful, right?"
"Oh, yeah. It will definitely be."

Along the way, she pulled a thick volume - "Hogwarts, A History". He hoped she will borrow it because Angus definitely did not want to have another chat with Mrs Wheeler. "It'll probably be useful, right?"
"Oh, yeah. It will definitely be."
