Mors Innocentiae
Dorian. Dorian was safe, yes. He was safe, good. Excellent, tremendous, ouch. The pounding wouldn't stop, pounding ringing and deafening any other thoughts. Everything hurt too damn much to think, any other words to the figure forgotten, as the pain got worse and worse, her head and body aching in agony from a number of bruises on every part of her, along with faint burn marks adoring her skin and charred robes that, on a normal occasion would be uncomfortable enough to yank off but mattered naught in the moment. Nothing mattered but the pain in her head, the growing pain that throbbed and pounded even more with every second that she stood. At some point, her fingers had reached out to cling onto Dorian's robes, her whole weight being supported by the taller boy's body, as Eris sagged over even more, letting out a small groan of pain escape her clenched lips.
The pain was so strong that she could barely focus on the supposed fight between Dorian and the figure, seeing them as random blurs in her drooping vision. Randomly, she let one figure curl around the wisps of smoke, unable to process what the smoke was doing there. Did Dorian cast it? Yes, who else would cast it? The figure didn't want them to hide, he wanted them to die. Whatever super human strength had compelled her to speak and stand lost her again, as she sagged over even more , only kept aloft by Dorian's grasp on her shirt, eyes unaccustomed to the fog, but drooping into their own darkness as she struggled to stay awake.
Was she going to die? Struggling to stay afloat in the swarm of darkness that was overpowering her thoughts and the darkness of her drooping eyelids in the smoke. Dorian muttered a spell, and Eris let out a small gasp, feeling small sparks erupt out of her wand, as if it was saying "I am here again" , the presence of the wand becoming a live one, not one of a random stick sitting stagnate in a small girl's hands. Although, it was too late for her wand to do any good. There was no hope, there was nothing left, just the throbbing in her head that grew by the moment, and Dorian's presence beside her in the smoky room. At least Dorian was safe and unharmed.
"I will find you again." Finding again? Did that mean..did that mean he wasn't going to kill them? No. He would kill them later. But..later was better than now. They were okay for now. With that thought, the line of consciousnesses lost Eris, and with one step backwards, she crumpled like a sack, loosing her grip on Dorian's shirt as her body hit the floor of the room, in an almost graceful moment, the world turned black and her eyes finally fully closed, and stayed closed.

Mors Innocentiae
Dorian would not allow her to hit the ground. Before her head could slam into the unforgivingly hard surface, the boy had slid the short distance to catch her head in his hand just in time. He heaved a heavy sigh of relief that he had at least managed that. She had been through so much already, and no words he said or thought could possibly make him feel any better about the turn of events. He had messed up again. Everything was his fault. Dorian was internalizing a lot of what had happened to his friends, believing it all to be his fault. He had dragged yet another one of them into something that had led to them sustaining severe injuries.
Moments before, while they had remained hidden under cover of the smog, Dorian could have been found wracking his mind for ways in which they could combat The Mask, any means that they could employ to get out of this alive. It all boiled down to experience. They had not been exposed to enough spells or experiences such as these by which to be better prepared. The meager array of spell knowledge that they had accrued was nowhere near enough to be of any effect against The Mask, who seemed to know a decent bit more than they did. They were finished. Dorian and another of his hair-brained schemes had gotten him and someone he cared about into more trouble than they could handle.
"I will find you again." Those words might have killed him if his aim had not been to live. He had been so resigned to go down fighting to the very last breath that it came as almost a punch to the gut when the ominous voice uttered his taunting valediction. Dorian didn't so much as breathe as he listened to the retreating footsteps. And then he could hear them no more. They would be safe for the time being, though he felt that The Mask's threat was anything but empty words. He had shown just how easily he could make quick work of two of the school's best fighters. He was not one to be trifled with. The smoke cleared of its own accord and Eris began to fall...
Dorian held her unconscious form in his hands, certain that she would neither see nor feel the tears that fell from his eyes and onto her face. These were tears of grief, an emotion he felt so powerfully now more than ever before. He had been powerless to defend his friend, just like before on the tower. Both times his friends had been either blasted or burned and there had been nothing he could do but witness as a spectator, for that might have been all the purpose he served. Both times he had gotten away almost scot-free, the first being the burns from Max's rampant spell and now the inconsequential cuts on his hand. While both times his friends had been knocked into unconsciousness. What was he doing?
Dorian positioned himself properly so as to have better access to Eris's small form. He lifted her easily into his hands and carried her corpse-bridal style through the lonely corridors, on his way to the hospital wing. With each step he took his outward expression grew more stoic. He was using the time to think long and hard about what his next move would be. Would he stop his chase of the masked figure, abandoning what he had set out to accomplish in the first place? Or would he stay his course with renewed vim? It was not so much a question of what he would do, but rather a question of how smart his choice was given the circumstances. Dorian would not quit. This was not an option for him. He had promised himself that he would avenge Max before, and now that promise extended to cover Eris as well. He walked on in silence, the only words to leave his mouth being aimed at Eris as she slept.
