The reflection staring back isn't yours

The Great Lake had never been on Elsians list for hang out spots. He’d never liked the lake, it was the 2nd and last place Elsian avoided it if he could. Sadly, it was also the perfect spot to set up a prank as of an hour ago, and not just any prank, but a Herga prank.
It would be glorious.
Or at least he hoped so. The truth was he hadn’t been planning to do this prank so soon, let alone tonight, granted that was mostly due to the boy being lazy and dragging his feet when it came down to the lake…But then the storm had hit. A storm! It was perfect and when the opportunity arose, well, there’d been no way he was gonna pass this up. And so, with much grumbling and great sadness had grabbed his things and dragged his sorry feet to the lake as the dwindling daylight behind thick gray clouds began to finally disappear and set about setting the stage for the prank.
First was the kite. A large, ominous thing covered in shredded scraps of gray and black fabrics. In the darkness, mixed with the sticky, tepid storm winds had it looking all the more eerie as the fabrics whipped around. The same fabrics had been draped on Herga, making the horrible puppet all the more horrifying. He’d tied the kite's thick string to a heavy log further down the way, half submerged in water, it’d make sure the kite didn’t fly off in the air or drift into the depths of the lake never to be seen again.
Next had been Herga herself. The Kermit the frog puppet, with her long grudge- like yarn hair and fabric curled around her was already a rather eerie sight in the darkness. Add the fake black ooze slipping down her jaw and through rows of sharp clay teeth? Well…in the darkness, held up against the large black kite, she almost kinda looked like a mini dementor or an angry banshee from a horror movie. Which she would be. Connected to the kite that is. Wire, thin but firm, would keep her in place, and between kite and puppet, it gave the illusion of something bigger, inhuman flying through the dark.
He grinned down at his work.
Carefully, very carefully, he placed the newly assembled Herga kite atop the lakes surface under the cover of the night and with a quick ride of his broom, stashing the thing against a large boulder and some trees nearby the log holding the kite's dark string safely put. The light sprinkles of warm rain turned to fat drops as a heavier burst of wind howled by; he flipped up his thin jackets hood.
He had to hurry.
Luckily, he was prepared, and the rest was finished without much fanfare. He’d known his targets were coming by, and he’d wasted no time in getting the thin strands of creepy fabric, attached with string into the water. It’d honestly creeped even him out, watching the slithery shadows of the fabric twist in the water from the shore and he’d been the one to put the stupid things there! There was little to do after that but link up the ends of the strings connecting to the fabric strips and blending into the water to a makeshift pulley and wait by his little cluster of trees out of sight and ready to reel the fabric strips deeper into the water and out of sight to freak the girls out when they got too close.
He didn’t have to wait long.
Elsian had waited, sat up in a tree as 2 girls arrived. It’d take a bit for them to first notice the shadows in the water, as dark as the storm clouds made it. But once they'd noticed? That’s when the fun would begin.
He’d wait of course. Letting them try to take a closer look, stewing in paranoia or curiosity as the wind howled and drops of rain made it all the harder to make out just what the eerie figures were. And then, when they got brave or perhaps foolish, getting closer to the water, perhaps even trying to wade deeper into the shallows for a better look with a light spell, he would reel props in. The prop slinking away from the girls and whatever they tried into the depths, slithery, fast, and eerie.
Then and only then, after setting the mood and perhaps giving them a small fright would he hop down from the tree, pulling his wand from his pocket. The real fun finally able to begin.
To the girls, and anyone by the lake's shores, after brief moments of the mysterious figures in the water slithering away in a flash of speed, they would be able to see something rise from the water's surface. The little mist rising from the lake's water mysteriously growing thicker as the figure-
No, creature, seemed to hang in the air staring into the darkness towards the unlucky victims.
