Comfort for the uncomfortable solo

this is a roleplay between Reena and Coraline. Offscreen they have met multiple times before and are meeting yet again.
Thoughts of the tournament have drifted from Reena's mind almost entirely despite everyone talking about it. Coraline, however, had it on her mind every second of the day. It made her sick to the stomach, her smiles almost didn't seem as genuine as before. She seemed to be regretting signing up, something Reena was quick to notice when they met again. "Hello Irene." Reena glanced over and stood up from where she sat to greet the girl. Coraline was strange, but there was something about her that made Reena stick around. She was annoying a majority of the time, but she was so odd. This interested Reena, and so she played the friend just to see what this girl had in store.

"Hey. What's up?" The usually bubbly girl seemed to have a lot on her mind at that moment. She looked more distracted than usual. Reena wasn't doing anything and she had no plans, it wouldn't hurt to talk for a bit. "Nothing! Nothings up." Reena blinked and waited a beat. The thing with Coraline is that she could never keep something on her mind for long without talking. Reena figured out that all she had to do was wait and she would spill her guts. "I was just thinking about the tournament is all. I don't know, it's just that I'm worried." Reena raised her eyebrows. Coraline, worried? This wasn't new. She was always worried. "That you'll... get hurt?" Reena pushed for more information. Maybe she could help the strange girl.

Coraline shook her head. "No, no. I get hurt all the time. But my entire team knows everyone so well, I sort of joined late and all that. So, like, if I do something wrong I don't know how they'd feel about it." Coraline huffed and lowered herself to the ground, smoothing her dress over her knees. Reena sat down in a squat position next to her. "Let me get this straight. You're going into, like, a super dangerous tournament but you're worried about what your team thinks of you?" This girl really was strange. Reena couldn't even begin to understand her. But hey, at least she had secrets, rumors, and candy. "Well yeah, why wouldn't I? I care about my team!" Reena stared and shook her head. "You're weird." Another thing. She could call Coraline anything she wanted and Coraline would take it as a light-hearted comment. "I know, right? " Reena nodded and fell silent before adding, " I wish I was in the tournament, you know. " She added. It would be super cool and all, to be noticed. To get involved, to do something. Coraline beamed. "We would make such a great team!" Reena looked at her. "Sure. Whatever you want to think. But anyways, I'll be safer cheering for my school I guess. But I hope you're school doesn't lose that bad." Coraline nodded, then seemed to think of yet another dilema.

Reena picked at some pieces of grass silently and tried to braid the pieces while she let Coraline speak. Coraline ranted for about 10 minutes after that, while Reena nodded here and there without actually listening. But it seemed that Coraline was asking for advice. Reena didn't even think about what Coraline had asked and just said "mhm" Then Coraline stood up abruptly and Reena glanced up. "Of course! I should do that!!" Reena was confused. "Do- do what? What did you ask me again?" But Coraline didn't even notice. "You're the best, Irene. I should talk to you about things way more often." Reena raised her eyebrows and shrugged. "I mean as long as you bring that candy you have, sure, come whenever." Coraline laughed. "Yeah, I can bring the candy next time."

Then she turned and skipped off. Reena had no idea what she had agreed with Coraline about, but she honestly didn't care the slightest bit.
