Sophia's heart swelled with pride at Bubba's compliments to her potion-brewing abilities, but then he started trying to fix his hair, so she gave his hand a light swat that would have made the nuns at her old church proud and began tidying it herself.
"You're welcome, and next time try to be a bit careful about it. I'd at least look in the book to see what color it should be, you know?"
As Bubba asked about the... specifics regarding his poisoning, Sophia had to look away from the previously filthy floor just to prevent herself from throwing up again. The stench alone would haunt her nose for weeks, even though it'd been thoroughly cleaned from the bathroom floor and the boys that caused it.
"Y-yeah, you did. It was kind of gross. I'd hoped to talk Hunter into just letting me give you the antidote, but, uh, the vomit kind of changed things..." she trailed off. "Still, I understand getting mad. I hear doxy eggs are, uh, pretty unpleasant."
Sophia wasn't a doctor, but she kept checking his forehead and gently rubbing his back as he recounted his symptoms. No hallucination, hopefully, so that was good. She was looking into his eyes - hadn't she read about pupil dilation or something? - when she caught the smirk on his lips and the flirtatious words from his mouth.
"Hey easy, buy me dinner first."
Sophia stepped back as if her hands had been burned. Had he really just said that? Her cheeks burned with embarrassment and indignation. She attempted a response, but all that came out was an embarrassed stutter. After a few seconds, she finally managed a glare and a few words.
"W-well, d-dinner is free at Hogwarts, you don't have to buy it at all. Lots of free food," she said with a nervous grin.
Bubba was already making his way to the door, making a comment affirming his desire for food, so Sophia followed him, eager to keep an eye on him and make sure he was okay.
"Lead the way," she said happily. She wouldn't mind a bit of breakfast herself.

Bubba talked as they walked, now that he was feeling a bit less like death warmed over he wanted to try to get something in him before the exam. He knew if he didn't he would regret this halfway through the exam. "Well yeah, I know I should really look but honestly, he's a fellow Ravenclaw, I just didn't expect that from him. Like you don't want to make it, fine, but poisoning someone? I mean seriously. Am I even the first? You know what don't answer that, I just don't want to know."
His memory had been coming back to him a bit the more they walked and Sophia explained to him what happened in a bit more detail. He definitely remembered tipping the rest of the poison back. He didn't think he'd ever been that mad because he'd never done anything that stupid. "Still, pretty stupid. Fortunately, I lived to tell the tale, thanks again."
He could tell that his little quip about buying him dinner first had not gone over well at all. He had just meant it to lighten the mood a bit after everything that had just happened but he could tell that he had offended her. "I'm sorry for my joke, by the way, I didn't mean anything by it but I definitely wasn't trying to make you uncomfortable."
He let himself fall into an uncomfortable silence as they made it the rest of the way to the Great Hall. He wasn't sure there really was anything left to say. She'd helped him, he'd been an ass (unintentionally for once). It was embarrassing. He liked to use his sense of humor to deflect away from his anxiety but when it backfire like that it just made things worse. They finally made it in and made it all the way over to the Ravenclaw table. He sat down and waited for Sophia to sit before he grabbed anything.
Unfortunately, when he looked over everything again he realized that he maybe wasn't quite ready to eat. He finally decided to take a scoop of scrambled eggs, a couple strips of bacon, and a piece of toast. He supposed he should start with the toast as it was most inert but he really didn't feel much like eating anything.

Sophia smiled at Bubba's willingness to trust someone just because they were from the same house. Honestly, she usually felt the same way, but she knew enough about potions to know how dangerous they could be if improperly ingested, so she was a bit more cautious on that front.
"I don't know if you're the first, but this is the first I've heard of it," she said with a sigh. "It's just - I never thought he'd be willing to go this far, you know? We've done some potion-brewing together, and I always respected him. He's genuinely amazing at brewing potions, so why would he stoop to poisoning people?"
They walked through the corridors, discussing the whole event, and Sophia was genuinely thankful Bubba was even alive. It was one thing to accidentally ingest a poison, but to purposefully drink the entire bottle out of spite? How'd this boy not get sorted into Gryffindor or Slytherin instead?
"You're welcome. I couldn't stand the thought of letting something like that happen to someone if I can help them. There was this character I loved as a muggle, and he had this line: 'With great power, there must also come great responsibility.' I'm just genuinely glad you're okay. Still, don't go drinking any more poison if you can help it, even if you are mad, 'kay? I'll be very angry if you do, and I might not look it, but I'm pretty strong when I'm angry."
The Grand Staircase came and went as they continued their little talk, and Sophia was surprised at Bubba's apology. Surprised, and a bit embarrassed. No one ever flirted with her. She'd never had a boyfriend before, and that made sense because she was still pretty young. She'd only had a crush on two people in her life, and one of them had turned out to be gay, and the other? Well, that was complicated.
It was weird to be the one on the receiving end of a pickup line, but Sophia didn't want Bubba to feel bad about it. She'd just been embarrassed and hadn't known what to say.
"M-maybe I'm just playin' hard-to-get?" she suggested with a playful smirk, unaware that her Georgia accent had peeked out just a bit. Oh well. She could understand his accent well enough, and they were both American, so surely he could understand a rural Georgia accent.
The rest of the trip to the Great Hall was rather silent, but it wasn't boring. Sophia was keeping a close eye on Bubba in case he felt weak, or lost his balance. The last thing she wanted was to have him pass out in the middle of the corridors.
She loaded her plate with enough food to feed two or three fully grown men. She really needed it after the eventful morning. She scooped up some bacon and eggs onto a piece of toast and shoved the whole mass into her mouth, struggling to chew, before she realized that Bubba didn't seem keen on eating.
"I'd start with some water first, then small bites," she said with her words barely intelligible due to her full mouth. She was quite the hypocrite, discussing 'small bites' in her current state. She swallowed the mass of food, wincing as she felt a dull pain in her chest and neck from swallowing it too fast without chewing properly.
"You're lucky you didn't have to deal with the hallucination effects of the Belladonna," she said as she washed the food down with some orange juice. "I don't envy you, but it could have been worse at least."
She returned to shoveling her food greedily into her mouth and watching Bubba, doing her best to gently encourage the boy to drink water and eat.

There is no Peace

Bubba sat there and continued to contemplate the food and the great mysteries of life. Why did Hunter poison him? Why was Hunter such an asshole? Was he paying too much for his broom insurance? Did Geico even offer broom insurance? His attitude could best be described at this point as "brooding". He normally had a pretty elaborate pre-exam ritual that he liked to stick to and it was completely out of wack. He just had to buckle down and get through this, now was not the time to get stuck in his own head. He continued to stare at his food until he heard Sophia talking. He wasn't sure how long she'd been talking but she knew he'd been talking about Hunter.
"I dunno, if his father just didn't love him enough or if he's just mad but that's just something you don't do that to people," Bubba said with a pronounced scowl on his face. Normally, he didn't like to judge people when he knew them so little, but he was happy to make an exception for Bubba. Poisoning someone seemed like quite a big character flaw and he felt quite safe in judging Hunter. "I don't know, I think it's just safest for he and I to avoid each other, I can't see it ending well."
Bubba's spirit was lifted a bit when she started quoting Spiderman and the Incredible Hulk to him. Bubba wasn't that into comic books but everyone knew who Spiderman and the Incredible Hulk were. Well every muggle at least, it would be completely foreign in the wizarding world no doubt. "You appear to be mixing your metaphors there, do you consider yourself more Spiderman or the Hulk? I was just surprised to hear either at wizarding school," he said with a laugh.
Bubba appraised Sophia carefully when she said she was playing hard to get. His face betrayed no emotion or expression while he tried to figure it out. She had seemed so indignant and genuinely uncomfortable by what he said. Was she just playing along now or was she actually serious? He eventually decided he couldn't tell for sure so he just broke into a rogueish smirk, "Well you're certainly doing a good job of it."
When it came to eating, Bubba decided to take her advice and play it safe to start off. He poured some water into his goblet and took a few sips. He didn't realize how dry he'd been after his ordeal. It felt like the most wonderful thing he'd ever drunk going down. His stomach gave a little growl but nothing sinister and he decided to move on to the toast. He started with a few bites but with the first one, it was like he'd just remembered how empty his stomach was and he wound up quickly devouring the toast. His stomach gave a loud rumble but nothing happened. He decided to try a couple of bites of eggs as Sophia talked about the effects of the belladonna.
"Can the hallucinations come delayed? That'd be hell of a thing to get during my exam?"
