Just a tad late
Date: Sep 1st, 2022
Was he really going through with this?
He quickened his pace, staring at his luggage as he hurried. Kitty was not pleased to be locked away, going utterly crazy as she crawled along the glass and pressed her spindly legs against the top, just a matter of time before she found a way to escape really. He swore he’d let her out the moment they got to the entrance. But until then, couldn’t have a giant spider roaming the muggle station.
“Elsi!” The Gryffindor choked as his dad barely caught him by the back of his shirt.
“Dad!” he sputtered, fumbling with the cart and rubbing his throat where the collar had pulled.
“Elsi, where in Merlin's name do you think you’re going?”
“I-” He was pulled away from the cart, turned around and pushed forward in the opposite direction as his dad grabbed the luggage cart himself. His mum stood a ways off, waving them down with a quick move of her arm, ‘hurry the hell up’ being the unsaid statement. “Oh.”
“C’mon, can’t keep your mother waiting!” He began to jog, pushing the cart along quickly and Elsian scrambled after him.
Already late. So so late compared to how early he usually arrived. There was no going back. He wouldn’t have time to get rid of the sweets…and it’d be such a waste of opportunity. Change of plans or not. He had to do this.
Even if it wasn’t as fun this way…
“Not a word of this to my sister.”
“Agreed.” Blue nails today; Annelise looped her arm with her sons as she dragged the tired boy along, “she would never let this go.”
They ran right past the entrance, or rather, his dad did. “Dad!” They both called out to him, waving him down by the wall. Elsian was quick to reach into Kittys container as his dad caught his breath. “C’mon.” He grabbed the spider, letting her crawl onto his shoulder as he grabbed the cart from his dad, quick as ever to rush through the entrance into Platform 9 ¾. His parents were close behind, Annelise dragging her husband along with a small laugh.
Catching his breath, he snatched the backpack he’d set atop the cart, slipping it over his shoulders as Kitty climbed to perch atop his head.
“Do you…ahem,” a light cough as his parents strolled up to his side. There was a good amount of other families around, luckily their rushing had meant they were too terribly late. “Do you have everything?”
“Yeah,” he pushed the top of Kittys tiny travel container more firmly closed, “I think I-” He was squeezed borderline painfully as his mother dragged him into a hug. “Mum-!” Kitty scampered down grumpily, demanding to be held by her owner as she was forced from her perch by long fingers brushing his hair down and turning him around.
“Let me have my hugs.” He wasn’t about to fight her on this. Although Kitty seemed happy to in his stead with the way she crammed herself between them, crawling up his shirt. His mum sighed, wiggling her fingers at the spider challengingly, “yes yes and you too Kitty. Try to keep her in check this year?”
“Of course I will!” They both knew it was a lie.
“Finally peace will be restored to the kitchens,” Derin said solemnly. “A truly bittersweet day.” A smack and the sound of the man yelping in pain.
They stayed like that for a bit longer and Elsian took in the banter happily, hugging his parents back before half-heartedly pulling away.
It was time to go.
