Rowan had been reading when the stupid, jerk of a frog had caught her attention. The lake was such a nice place to read on a day like that, when the sun was shining and there was just the barest hint of a breeze rustling the leaves. Sure, there were lots of people around, but it's not like they were doing anything particularly exciting. Her book was far more interesting than whatever drama was currently plaguing the older students of Hogwarts.

And then the stupid frog had shown up.

And maybe it would have been fine, but Theo's last letter to her had been talking about how he wanted a toad for when he started Hogwarts. He was only seven, so it was a long time off, and she knew her mum was never going to go for something amphibious for a pet, even if Theo gave Mum his best puppy-dog face. Poor kid was heartbroken. So when Rowan saw the frog, she came up with the most brilliant plan ever: she was going to send Theo a Hogwarts frog!

Only catching the dang thing was proving to be an issue. Leaving her book by the tree she'd been sitting next to, she taken off across the grounds, chasing the hopping creature all over the grounds. It was so small, how was it so fast? It didn't even make sense. She'd been dodging in and out of people for a good ten minutes now, and she was getting tired. But it seemed that the stupid frog was also getting tired, because she was gaining on it quickly. It hesitated and she launched herself forward, only to find herself crashing not into a frog, but another human being.

"Sorry!" she cried, but she didn't recover quick enough, and the frog disappeared. She glanced back at the person she'd crashed into. "Sorry about that. Any chance you saw where that frog went?"

Felix needed fresh air. It wasn't a question, but a demand. She was slowly loosing her mind in her dorm, with the other girls she was paired with, they never stopped talking about pure-blood status, it was kind of annoying, thought it became worse when one found out Felix was a pure-blood. Having seen it was a nice day, Felix took the opportunity to walk around the grounds, seeing no harm in just having a little sunlight.

There were all kinds of students out, different years as well, it was kind of nice. Felix has never seen so many people together in one place, happy, that was, so it was comforting, reminding her of home in a way. From the corner of her eye, Felix could see someone running around, but she tried her best to not think of it. If it didn't directly affect her, there was no use in trying to push herself to think of an answer. Yet as fate would have it, as Felix turned to look at the sky, Felix was crashed into. Letting out a slight startled gasp, Felix stumbled a few steps before regaining herself, giving a bit of a smile to the other girl. Now, she'd gotten a good look at her, her smile growing. She seemed peculiar, and Felix liked the looks of it.

"Oh don't be sorry, it's all right." Felix commented, waving her hand a little as she quirked a brow. Had this girl been chasing a frog this whole time? Humming slightly, Felix turned in a circle, looking around her feet before she felt something jump in the pocket of her robe. Slowly, Felix reached her hands in, grabbing a hold of the frog before pulling it from her pocket.

"Is this yours?" She asked, gesturing to the frog captured between her hands. "I thought first-years weren't allowed pets?" She asked, tilting her head a little. While Felix could care less about the rules on pets, Felix would never admit she had a little china-doll that came to life with a few spells hidden in her suitcase.

She almost felt bad that she had crashed into whoever it was, but Theo was going to be so excited when he got his Hogwarts frog. And now, because she hadn't been looking where she was going and because she hadn't been able to dodge whoever it was, she'd lost the frog and she'd knocked someone to the ground. This day was just not going well.

It turned out that she had crashed into a girl about her age. Well, she supposed, it could have been worse. Could have been an older student. "Oh don't be sorry, it's all right." Not too many people Rowan knew would be so relaxed about being knocked to the ground.

She was about to apologize anyway, when she noticed the other girl reaching into her pocket. For a moment, Rowan thought she was going to get hexed, but it wasn't a wand that appeared. It turned out to be the frog that she'd been chasing before. She laughed at the sight of the stupid creature. "I'm impressed that you didn't squish him by accident," she said to the other girl.

"Is this yours? I thought first-years weren't allowed pets?" Rowan shook her head. "Not my pet. I was trying to catch him for my brother. My mum won't get him a pet toad, so I thought he might like a frog from Hogwarts. He's seven, so he likes weird things like that." She wasn't sure how she would have kept him alive for that journey, but that hardly mattered.

She stuck out her hand to the other girl, remembering her manners. It only occurred to her in that moment that the other girl was still holding the frog and probably couldn't quite shake hands. Oops. "I'm Rowan. And I am really sorry about crashing into you."

Felix was intrigued with the other girl, finding it adorable how she wanted to give a toad from Hogwarts to her brother. Felix didn't have siblings so she really could not to an extent, but she was planning to grab a flower or two for her Muggle-friend when she had the chance.

"I'm impressed as well actually, guess luck is on my side." Felix replied, chuckling a little as she took in the frog's appearance a little more. At least it wasn't a toad, then Felix would have been glad she squished it, even if it would make a mess of her robe. "I think it's adorable that you're sending him a frog. He'll be glad to have a sister like you." Felix added, giving a warm smile to the frog before looking up at Rowan. Felix raised a brow at her hand, in a non-rude way, and gave a small smile. Holding onto the frog tightly with one hand, Felix looked around quickly before pulling out her wand. She knew this was a bit risky, in getting into trouble that is, but Felix wished to use her Family's knowledge to help Rowan out.

Felix gave a slight awkward cough, wiping her free hand on her robe before grabbing onto Rowan's as she stood.

"Names Felix Winters and don't worry about it. It was just a small knock-down that's all." Felix replied, giving a shake to Rowan's hand with a wide smile.

Seriously, how did one manage to just catch a frog in one's pocket? Maybe this girl should be trying to do something else that required an incredible amount of luck, like winning the lottery or getting a good chocolate frog card or something. "No kidding," she said, grinning at the girl while she checked out the frog. "Let's hope you didn't use up all your luck on catching a frog." Wouldn't that be disappointing.

The other girl commented on her reason for catching the frog. Rowan couldn't help but grin at the thought of Theo's face when he opened the box to find the frog inside. Not to mention the fact that her mother would lose her mind. "Hopefully, he likes it. Mum will absolutely hate it, which honestly just makes it even better." The girl pulled out her wand after glancing around - weird, but okay - and cast a quick spell on the frog, freezing it in place. "Nice!" she exclaimed. She glanced around, following the girl's lead of checking to see if anyone was watching. "I'll have to get you to teach me that someday. Do you think this little guy could survive an owl trip? Nothing would be more depressing than getting a dead frog in the post." What the hell did she know about keeping animals alive? She'd never had any pets.

The girl, Felix, shook her hand, grinning. "Well, thanks for catching the frog then." It was among one of the stranger ways that she'd met someone, but who was she to complain when they turned out to be this cool? "You know, I saw some more frogs over by the lake. Want to go see if we can catch a few more? Maybe stick some in the Great Hall and see what happens?"

[[Slight issue with the spell, I fixed it so that the thread would not be deleted. Site rules, sorry about that]]

It just seemed like Felix would be the one to catch a frog in her pocket, but she couldn't question it that much, knowing something strange like that would happen to her. Chuckling, Felix hid the frog in her pocket again, not wanting to hurt it a little more. Quickly, she undid the spell, smiling when she heard it croaking again, yet, it chose to stay in her pocket and not escape. "No, I'm sure my luck will stay with me."

"Well, I'm sure the school will teach it and all. Don't want you or me getting into trouble for breaking the school rules. It's meant to be a secret after all." Felix commented, trying to correct her misuse of her wand as she shook her head a little. Hearing her question, Felix tapped her chin a little. "Well, you could try put in some water and food and it should be able to survive. I'm not overly sure as I am not experienced with frogs.." Felix replied, giving a small shrug. "Oh, no need to thank me and I would be glad to.." Felix replied, chuckling a little as she began walking in the direction of the lake. "We'll have to catch them by hand. I've heard from a second year that Prefects tend to be near the lake, for safety and all.." Felix noted, sparing a glance at Rowan before looking ahead again. While this whole moment was nice, Felix was internally worrying over the fact that Rowan hasn't commented on her looks yet. It was strange to have someone stick around this long, or even go this long without saying something. But, Felix was not going to point it out, she would like a friend after all.

Catching a frog in a pocket. It felt like one of those stories that got passed around, but you never actually knew whether or not it really happened. But this one Rowan had seen with her own eyes, and so knew to be true. "Got any plans for that luck of yours?" she couldn't help but ask. Somehow, she imagined the taller girl playing cards or convincing some dumb kid that she had put them under a hex or something ridiculous like that.

The disappointment came swiftly that Rowan wasn't going to get to learn any cool spells. A well, the time would come eventually. She just wanted to be able to do the cool magic, rather than the boring old first year spells that they'd been taught so far. Ah well. She could focus on the frog situation for now. Food and water would be easy enough, though she wasn't sure how she'd make sure the water didn't go everywhere. They were pretty close to home, after all. "Worth a shot, I guess," she said, shrugging. "Just got to make sure I pick a fast enough owl, and that he's fed before he goes. Or she. How do you tell if its a boy or girl frog?" This was why she didn't do creatures. At least not common ones.

Felix seemed happy to go along with Rowan's crazy frog-catching plan, and the pair made their way towards the lake. "That is good to know. Don't hide near the lake if we want to do something that would earn us a detention. Catching them by hand just makes it more fun!" What was the worst that could happen? "What's our frog catching strategy? Sneaky? All out jump attack? Pretend to be a frog to earn their trust?" She grinned up at the other girl, pleased with her newly found company.

Felix shrugged a little as she continued to walk in the direction of the lake, her hands by her sides to avoid stirring up the frog more. She was going to have to wash her robes a lot sooner than planned, but it wasn't an issue. She was having fun and that's all that mattered to her. 'Plans? Well, luck has found me a friend so far. Not sure what can be luckier than that." Felix commented, smiling at Rowan. To Felix, she considered her year so far unlucky, but it seemed as a frog has changed that luck around somehow.

Felix could tell there was some disappointment in the air after she told Rowan she couldn't teach her spells. But for her own and Rowan's safety, Felix figured it would be best to leave it to the Professors to teach magic and not her. She didn't want Rowan to be hurt or damaged because of her. Felix didn't want a repeat of last time, which caused her to look like she is now.

"I'm sure a frog can last a little bit. But seems like feeding it would be the best choice." Felix commented at first, looking puzzled at the question. "I am not sure and I really do not wish to check." Felix wasn't the one for animals, so she wasn't the best to ask the finer details. As long as Rowan was happy catching some frogs, Felix had no troubles in playing along.

"Exactly, I am not in a big mood to get detention in my first year, but I have heard the Lake is a nice spot to relax as well." Felix hummed, stretching her arms above her head a little, as she looked to Rowan. "I guess we can be sneaky and slow, we really don't want to be falling into the water-" Felix began, cutting short when she heard the gaining of trust part. "H-How would we gain their trust?" Felix asked, looking Rowan in the eye with genuine confusion.

There were a lot of things that Rowan could do if she had a few hours of luck, and most of them involved challenging things and people she really had no business challenging on a regular, old, not lucky day. But it seemed that this girl was something else entirely, not quite like Rowan at all. That was fine though. She needed friends who weren't going to convince her that her crazy schemes were actually pretty dumb ideas. "Can't complain about new friends," she said shrugging. "I'll admit that I've never made a friend by running them to the ground though. I guess that's my end of this luck." If she wasn't lucky, Felix would have tore her limb from limb. All a matter of perspective.

Frog catching with a new friend was a far better deal than going back to her book. She had the briefest moment of silence for the book she likely would never see again - who knew what happened to books when you left them in the grass near a lake and stupid kids - and then started planning their frog catching adventure. "You don't think we'd get detention for something like catching frogs, do you?" She was pretty sure that wasn't a thing, but she also hadn't had many run ins with prefects and such, so it was hard to tell for sure.

There were many things to discuss when it came to catching frogs, namely, how they were going to do it. She laughed as her new friend caught her comment about earning their trust. It wasn't a real idea, just popped into her head. "Get down on our hands and hop a bit?" she said, shrugging. "Sneaky and slow probably is the best, with a good launch attack when you're good and close." She glanced around, looking for a frog to get them started. Only it seemed strangely quiet... There!" she called, in a loud whisper, pointing in the direction of a particularly lumpy looking green frog. "Which way are you going to go?"

"I guess it is a first for you." Felix commented, chuckling a little as she stretched her arms above her head, sparing a glance at the scenery around them which was quite beautiful.

"Well, I don't think detention is for frog catchers. But I am sure if you do something with the frogs, then I am sure we'd get into trouble if we were caught." Felix replied, tapping her chin a little as she spun in a small circle. She found this whole situation a little strange but then again, it was better than having no friends. She was sure her family would be proud for having a friend, but Felix was sure her family would not reply to any of her owls - since they're still salty over the whole house issue.

Visibly, this troubled Felix, a small pout coming to her face before she looked over at Rowan, chuckling. "You can hop around if you want. I think just attacks would be better." Felix commented, rolling her eyes a little bit as she slowed around, stopping when Rowan spotted a frog. "Right, I'll go right." Felix whispered, slowly moving in the direction to the right of the frog. She felt the one in her pocket move around, which was a little gross.
