A rather cool, lovely morning: Marius thought he would bask himself in the spring sunlight. He still had no idea what to do, but it was too beautiful not to go outside. Perhaps he would just climb a tree, sit on its nook or bench, enjoy the view, let his imagination wander, and slid down - and repeat the whole process with another tree, so he could enjoy different views in one morning.
He felt pretty light-hearted at this thought, and he even skipped a little and quietly hummed as he walked to the school grounds.
Outside, there were a few kids, which was totally understandable considering the weather. Marius passed two teenagers who spoke rather loudly that he could hear them without even trying; from their words, it seemed that they were siblings.
"But it's been years since we last saw Jules and I thought he was still as cute as when he was a baby! Who would've thought that he's an ugly little boy now - face all covered in freckled and hair so thin! I didn't mean to make him cry of course, but I couldn't help exclaiming all these at that time!" said the boy. Before the girl could respond, another voice said sweetly and naïvely, "That wasn't very nice. And you yourself isn't all that good-looking with a mouth that reminds me of a duck's bill."
Naturally, the two turned around immediately to see the speaker, and they faced a flustered Marius Brown, his face now the colour of a boiled crab as he realised what he had just done: letting out the first thing that came to his mind without thinking - again. The boy looked as if he was about to punch the embarrassed Hufflepuff, but the girl, who seemed to be his elder sister, stopped him by pulling his shoulder. Both of them shot Marius a dirty look before walking away, presumably to find a quieter place.
Marius, meanwhile, merely stood there dumbfounded. That wasn't very nice, he had sassily told the boy earlier albeit using a sweet and polite tone, and he realised that it had not been very nice of him either to do so.

Mina had looked out her window and and smiled, it was a nice day, and a weekend. She debated whether to wear her robes or her usual weekend attire when she was home. Feeling homesick, she grabs her black jeans, a t-shirt. She pulls them on and looks to her makeup bag, she had worn any makeup since the days before she left home for Hogwarts. She picks up the bag and opens it pulling out her eyeliner and pts some on and then puts it away and grabs her black combat boots and walks out, grabbing her jacket as a last thought and tying it around her waist and snaps a spare hair tie onto her wrist.
When she gets outside she kicks at some dirt and pauses, looking around and sees a familiar head of short brown hair and watches as Marius walks past two other students and stops and says something. She sighs inwardly, he was probably speaking with thinking again. Something she did all the time. She watches the two walk away in a rage and she shakes her head.
She walks over and calls out to the embarrassed Marius, “Hey, Marius.” She stops in front of him, “What did you say this time?” She asks, curious.

Marius turned around, sad and soft brown eyes facing Mina Starr. Mina was a Gryffindor, but she was also a fellow first year, so the two preteens had a number of classes together. They bonded over their love for animals and their thought of the importance of family, but also because they could stand each other's honesty and understand a not-very-nice tendency to speak out the first things that came to their minds.
Marius trusted Mina as a very good friend, and he did not hesitate telling her what had just happened to him and the teenagers. "He," the Hufflepuff gestured to the teen boy who was now far away, "was saying something about a little child who is no longer as cute as he used to be and about how he made the child cry. Look, they talked rather loudly so everyone could hear them, I wasn't eavesdropping or something. And then I told the boy that wasn't very kind of him, especially considering his own face, with a mouth that resembles a duck's bill. And... well, the two got angry."
He stopped, inhaled deeply, both from tiredness of speaking and from regret. Why did he hurt people without even meaning, or trying, again? Oblivious to his own bad tendency, he began to suspect there was something wrong with his upbringing as a country boy in Claybrooke Magna village.

Mina meets his gaze, her own brown eyes warm and somewhat comforting, or as comforting as Mina could be. She met Marius on the train to Hogwarts and had been slightly uncomfortable at the boys own tendency for truth and saying whatever was on his mind. She had welcomed the chance to meet and get to know someone who understood her own tendencies. Being the gril from a small town, she’d had few friends, maybe three of them. Most of the other kids her age picked on her.
She listens closely and shrugs, “I would have done the same thing, do not feel bad Marius, he does look like a duck. But I am not helping am I?” She sighs, unlike Marius, Mina never felt very guilty for speaking truth and whatever was on her mind to someone, if she hurt feelings, well, then you shouldn’t have done anything to warrant her saying something negative to you.
She sucks in a breath, “If you felt the need to say that it probably needed to be said, but,” She shrugs, “Maybe pause next time or just keep walking?” She knew bother of these where practically impossibilities but she suggested them none the less.

Mina gave him two possible suggestions, with the first being pausing (he assumed that meant taking a momentary stop to think before he decided to speak) and the other simply walking away.
Walking away sounded much easier, but for Marius, there were two drawbacks with this plan. While it may work with strangers who happened to talk too loud as he was passing by, it might prove more difficult when all of them were sitting and stuck with each other. Another, of course, if the speaker was someone he knew and they were addressing a group of audience that he was a part of; or worse, they were talking directly with him.
"I think pausing requires more practice," he told the Gryffindor, "but looks like in the long run, it will save much trouble. Imagine, I won't have to stand up and leave if I happen to be in the same café with someone who talks too loud and non-stop to their company. Or to their phone. Typically older people will do to their companies, and then the younger to their mobile phones. Don't you think so, Mina?"
As he said all these words, the Hufflepuff did not realise that he had once again committed the same mistake. Why, seen objectively, one could see that he mentioned "mobile phones". Would Mina, a wizard-born, know that object? Had she ever even heard the word? (And: had he not talked for too long?)

Mina listens adamantly, “Well, of course it takes practice, everything takes practice. It’ll just take more practice than some other things. My mom taught me to put my hand over my mouth to stop me from just belting it out. Yeah, it may look silly, but it really helped me make a good habit of stopping and thinking. Though sometimes I still find it hard and speak my mind.”
She tilts her head slightly, Phone. . . Phone. . . Oh, those little things that muggles use. “Yeah, exactly. But seriously, I need to get my hands on one of these ‘phones’, see what the thing is about having your eyes on the. . . Screen? All the time. Are they really that cool?”
She was aways Curtis when a muggle born brought up the technologies they had and she wanted to know more. What did they find so interesting on those phones? Or Laptops? And what were cat videos? She knew what videos where and casts, so she assumed they where videos of cats. But why where they so funny, she’d never really seen one. She huffed silently at her own thoughts, and payed mor attention to Marius, waiting for his answer, or answers.

Clasping your hands over the mouth... yeah, it did (or might) look funny; it reminded Marius of the symbol of speaking no evilness. Perhaps the symbol or gesture really had the root from this strategy Mina learnt from her mum? It was possible!
But currently it ought not to matter. The two preteens were discussing about ways to stop his habit of speaking the first thing that came to his mind without thinking, and thus the more important question for the time being was, is the method effective? The Hufflepuff considered it.
The way sounded quite similar with his mum's story about her friend who attempted to control their temper by wearing a rubber band around their wrist as if it had been a bracelet, and then using the band to slap their arm as a reminder not to immediately explode without analysing the situation. At that time, Marius refused to try it because he did not like to wear bracelet, and a rubber band would only make him feel he was wearing one.
On the other hand, though, putting hands over his mouth did not require him to put on anything. Nothing would be used except his own hands, a natural part of him.
"I... I think I'll try that. Thanks, Mina," he finally replied, smiling gladly. "Oh, and about those mobile phone things. Nah, they're not that great. Sure they can help you learn and see the other part of the Earth, but books can do the same. They can't help you feel the touch of plants or animals or anything else, though; just see and listen. Not as great as playing outdoor. Speaking of which -" he gestured toward the open grounds, " - wanna play a game of ball or feed the birds?"
